The trio walked to school. They bumped into Kairi. "Hey, Kairi!" said Yaya. "Hello, Yuiki-san." said Kairi, "Heard you're going to take part in THE TEST" "Yeah! Did someone tell you?" said Amu. "Yeah, I'm part of the guardians too." said Kairi, "Well, I used to. Now, I'm just kind of like the on the sidelines like Ikuto." "What do you and Ikuto do?" said Utau. "Mostly just serve the guardians." said Kairi, "There can be up to five guardians at any given time. The previous three graduated last year" "Huh, so we get to be the other three spots?" "That's correct." said Kairi, "Well, good luck" The three ran into a secluded area behind the school and got out Ran, Pepe and Il. "So, are you excited?!" said Ran. "You bet!" said Amu. "I'm going to pass the test!" said Utau. "You go, girl!" said Il.

Chapter 2: Welcome to the Guardians!

After school, the three entered the garden. "Wow! I'm so glad you're able to make it." said Ikuto. "Yeah" said Kairi. "So! What's the test?" said Amu. "One at a time." said Tadase, "Amu-chan. Would you like to go first?" "Oh, sure" said Amu. Tadase lead her to the basement of the garden. There was a table containing a deck of cards. "Pick one." said Tadase. Amu picked one up. It was the red joker. Tadase gasped. "An interesting choice" said Tadase, "Now, place it back in the deck" Amu did so. "Now close your eyes" said Tadase. Amu did so. Tadase shuffled the cards. "I have shuffled the cards and you're gonna find the card that you picked up." Tadase placed the cards on the table. Amu looked at it. Suddenly, Ran spoke in her head. "17th card from the left." she said. "Are you sure?" said Amu. "Yes!" Amu picked up that card, and it was the red joker. "Now let's do it 6 more times" said Tadase. After 6 more trials, Amu got it all correct. "Well done! You have passed." said Tadase, "Follow me" Tadase uncovered a secret door and led Amu inside. "Amu! You did it!" said Kukai. "Yeah!" said Amu. "Stay here, I'll just get Yaya and Utau to do it" said Tadase. He left. "So, welcome to the Guardian Headquarters of Seiyo." said Kukai. "Hope you like it here" said Kairi.

Later, Yaya and Utau came in. "I'm a bit confused" said Utau. "What is it?" said Kukai. "Kairi, what's the chance of completing THE TEST?" said Utau. "1 in 1,028,071,702,528" said Kairi. "And the chances that all three of us get in are?" "About 1 in 1 undecillion." said Kairi. "I've read somewhere that if 10 billion people attempted something with an about 1 in 31 quintillion chance every second for 100 years, then there would only be 1 success out of all the attempts" said Utau. "Huh. You're right" said Amu, "Yet, here we are." "That's what's so remarkable about THE TEST" said Tadase, "Under normal circumstances, a 1 in a trillion feat will be impossible for a single person. These cards are specifically designed so that guardian characters are able to sense them" "Guardian characters?" said the three. "They are little spirits that inhabit an item, like a crown, a hairclip or-" "A keychain" said Amu. "Yes, that's right" said Tadase, "They cannot interact with the physical world... that is, for normal humans."

"Say, what is your guardian character's name?" said Kairi. "Ran" said Amu. "Mine is Pepe" said Yaya. "Il" said Utau. "Oh, my character is Daichi. He lives in my star hairclip" said Kukai. "Yaya's the Ace of Spades!" said Yaya, "Hey, Kairi. What's your designation?" "I was the Jack of Spades" "And you Ikuto" said Amu. "The Black Joker." said Ikuto. "That's why I was surprised that you chose the joker" said Tadase, "There are supposedly only two jokers in the entire world at any given time." "Why? There is a 2 in 54 chance someone can choose the Joker." said Amu. "Amu. There are only 52 of these cards." said Ikuto, "The joker cards are cards that magically appear in the deck. Once someone picks them, they magically become a lock and key" "They're the creations of the original creator of the Guardian Project." said Tsukasa, "He founded the Guardian Project 105 years ago." Tadase gave Amu the red joker card, and it became a lock with a strange design.

"So, what do these guardians do?" said Utau. "Basically, their mission is to protect the hearts of everyone in the world." said Tadase, "We are the guardians of positive energy" "We're spreading excitement all over the world!" said Kukai. "Many famous people in the last century were guardians." said Kairi, "William James Sidis, Stevie Wonder, John von Neumann, Shirley Temple" "I don't know who any of those are" said Utau. "Yo-Yo Ma, Sergey K-" "Yaya does not know any of those either" said Yaya. "You get the idea" said Kairi. "So, how many members are there? Right now?" said Amu. "2763." said Tadase, "Counting the "face down" members, my best guess is 7117. There aren't much information on the members on the sidelines" "So, what now?" said Amu. "Usually, I would give a report to Tsukasa about the current situation." said Tadase, "But not much has happened, and he already said he got most of it, so..." "You three can leave now" said Tadase.

"Ikuto..." she whispered. She flew off. Ikuto was walking across the street when he saw someone flying across the night sky. He shrugged it off and left.
