Chapter Four: Old Wounds

Adrien felt his nerves spike after hitting send. 'Guardian' had given him the phone number he used to contact Ladybug in her everyday life. He set his phone down to concentrate on the work he had in front of him. Adrien had taken over the family business when his father was put in jail. He was glad to have this job even if it wasn't exactly what he'd wanted to do as a career.

It wasn't awful and had its perks. At the end of the day, Adrien was glad he'd taken over the company. After he rebranded it, people were slightly more willing to buy from them. If things continued to go well for them, they could expand the business soon.

He waited for about half an hour before he checked his phone again. She had seen the message but hadn't responded. He sent her another text.

M'lady?

He waited a few more minutes before he sent her another text.

Ladybug, are you there?

He went the rest of his day sending her texts. She didn't respond to them, but they always showed that she'd seen them. When he pulled up to his house, he pulled out his phone again and sent her another text. He was considering calling her later. He walked into his house and saw his wife happily making something.

He walked up next to her. "Hey, Princess, whatcha making?"

She leaned into him, continuing to knead the dough. "Just some rolls for dinner."

"Do you need help?" He took off his work jacket and rolled up his sleeves.

"Yeah, could you start cooking the meat that's on the stove?"

"Anything for you, Princess," he kissed her cheek.

After dinner, he snuck into his home office. He pulled out his phone and checked his messages again. Ladybug still hadn't responded. He hit the call button and waited.

Marinette finished washing the dishes when her phone started to ring. She dried her hands and picked it up. She answered it. "Hello?"

"Well, looked who finally answered." She froze at the voice on the other end. She instantly that it was Chat Noir.

"How'd you get my number?"

"The 'Guardian' gave it to me so we could correspond easier."

She threw the towel she was holding on the counter. "Well, what do you want?" she said a little too harshly.

He sighed. "I wanted to talk."

"And what if I don't want to?"

"I'd understand but can I please explain what happened back then."

Marinette felt her heartbreak at the desperation in his voice. She sighed. "Fine, you get one chance." She desperately hoped he had a good reason. She wanted to heal the wounds and reconnect with her old friend.
