Hello all! Concern here with a new chapter of A Father Figure for you! I know its been three months since the last chapter, but as I am working on two other stories updates will be around this timeframe more than likely.
I would have had this chapter out a few weeks sooner but something unexpected happened. My beta Brutus discovered that Jack was being used by another author without my knowledge. So I took a look at the story and then reached out to her and while initially mad allowed her to continue using him.
Why? Well, the story she's writing is amazing that's why! The story is on A03 and it is called Exile Dreams, the story is practically an AU of THIS STORY! And its future sequel. Also shes a great person in general really. Her name is Tamiri on there. She fell in love with my character and my story so it was quite flattering that she wished to use my character.
Tamiri has also supplied me with something special that I have been wanting to happen for some time...Fanart! She's quite a good artist and I have been collecting a stockpile of fanart from her.
Now this chapter was delayed because Brutus and I have kindly offered our services to her. He's using his beta skills and i'm giving her advice on Jack. and most recently I helped write a future chapter for her story as it was combat heavy, and writing combat scenes is one thing im good at. I plan to continue helping her out. So if you follow this story, GO CHECK HERS OUT! Exile Dreams on A03! do it do it!
Another thing I have been wanting to happen is...CIMAR REVIEWS! Yay!
Anyways i've jabbered on long enough so please if you like what I am putting out please review and follow/fav/both and just review in general.
Ok thats all I got so story time!
Chapter 10: Jack and The Fox
Vivian just sat there, shocked at what Wolford just told her. "Jack was going to kill that Woodchuck? That's…extreme." Vivian just shook her head thinking about it, looking at Wolford she said "his instinct was to kill the threat to my kit….I, really don't know what to think…"
Wolford nodded a couple of times and Bogo gave one shirt nod before saying "and that's understandable, I am just as conflicted on the matter. But at the same time, I think about his life up until that point I…and I don't blame him. Ms. Wilde you may know some of the history of his early life but I've read case files, seen the evidence, heard his testimonies. Jack had to fight tooth and nail to survive his kithood, and I mean FIGHT. I believe he has trained himself to take out anything that could cause him harm, or in this case, your son. I also believe his intention was to knock out, not to kill. Jack Hunter is without a doubt a very intricate and complicated mammal, so I can only guess what his intentions were and where his mind was."
Wolford nodded his agreement at that and built off of it. "It's true , I myself can only speculate about what was going on in that fox's mind. I too along with a few others saw what Lt. Bogo saw, and after that and meeting him this one time, and there are two things I can without a doubt say I know about Jack Hunter. The first is he was wildly protective of your son and will more than likely continue to be. The second is, he will without a doubt move heaven and earth to do so and is without a doubt a force to be reckoned with if crossed."
Vivian didn't have much to say after that, simply nodding a few times while trying to process what she'd just been told. Then, she noticed the contemplative look on Bogo's face and couldn't help but asking. "I'm sorry Lt. Bogo, but what's with that face you're making?"
Bogo let out a small snort and replied "it's just Jack in that moment reminded me of someone I met before, and someone who became a small obsession of mine to find."
Wolford looked up at Bogo and began to ask. "You don't mean?"
Bogo just nodded once and said "yes I do. The Fox."
Vivian looked back and forth at the two officers, utterly confused as to what they were talking about. So, she asked the obvious question. "I'm sorry, who?"
Bogo quickly took the reins and replied "We here at the ZPD only know this mammal as The Fox. Though, his actual species may not even be a fox. The Fox is a mammal I met about seven years ago, in my own home. I had just gotten home from work and walked into my home, only to quickly find out I wasn't alone. The Fox had cut my power with some sort of EMP jamming device, and at the time I didn't know who he was or where he was, or if he was there to kill me. It started with him calling out that my power wasn't going to come on unless he allowed it to, I of course went for my weapon but he quickly dissuaded me of it and instructed I join him in my kitchen for a glass of bourbon. He knew I always had a glass of it after work. Once there a glass of bourbon went sliding across my counter and into my hoof, and when I questioned if it wasn't poisoned or not with annoyance in his tone he informed me it wasn't."
Bogo paused to stand up, allowing Wolford to sit back down and took to pacing back and forth as he continued his tale. "So, I took a sip and of course it was regular bourbon. The second I did is when I saw him for the first time. He lit a match a brought it up to a cigarette in his mouth, illuminating his face for the briefest of moments. What I saw was a big arctic fox with a black band of fur across the eyes of which were an icy blue. Then in the next moment his flicked the match out and disappeared. Next thing I know a light is coming on in my living room and he's sitting in a chair with a glass of his own filled with bourbon. He gestured for me to sit in my chair and drink, I saw his gun so I didn't refuse. He finished his cigarette and drink and waited for me to finish mine. Once I did what proceeded to happen is he laid out everything that led to Chief Henry Ironsides arrest along with arresting all of those Prey Supremacy Society members that were in places of power, and admitting he was the one that murdered all of those mammals that turned out to have participated in the murders of James and Katherine Hunter, and the attempted murder of their son Jack Hunter. Full name Jackson Tiberius Hunter."
Vivian let out a little gasp at that. She knew Jack's parents were killed and he was almost, but what she didn't know is that a mammal tracked and killed the ones responsible. She felt a sense of justice at that but at the same time a little bit of horror because there was only one way The Fox could find them…and that's if Jack told him.
Bogo continued. "After he laid all of that out, he walked out of my front door. The second that door shut my power flicked back on. If you followed the events off Ironsides arrest and after, you should have an idea of where I'm going. The Warehouse Massacre. The media reported that at least three mammals from a organization dedicated to fighting the Prey Supremacy Society went into the warehouse and wiped all of the mammals in there. The truth of the matter is, it was only one. The Fox. Evidence showed that only one mammal entered the building and wiped all 100 mammals inside. I was there, in the aftermath, and I went inside that warehouse. The imagery of when I walked in still haunts me. Anyways, The Fox gave me a number to call, so I called him and informed him on things, including the PSS only being declared a gang and not a terrorist organization. Which is a decision to this day I don't understand or agree with."
Vivian shifted her gaze momentarily as she saw Wolford nod his head in agreement several times at Bogo's last sentence. She herself found herself nodding in agreement to, she remembered seeing that bit of information on the news and how she felt so angry during horrified in that moment.
She looked back to Bogo as he continued. "But I digress. He wasn't very happy about the news, I believe I heard a table being flipped when he dropped the phone. After that The Fox fell off the map for the ZPD, for a little bit at least. He reappeared when I reached out to colleges in the ZBI and FBI in general asking if they knew of him. The reaction I got when I described who I was looking for….as it turns out he fell of our map because he stopped being an arctic fox with a black band of fur going over the eyes…instead he was a brown coyote, a red fox, a tan coyote, a black wolf, a grey wolf, a brown wolf, a regular arctic fox, etcetera. He fell off because he started changing identities regularly, he also had a new occupation…criminal assassin. The Fox was now an assassin, we don't know who he was working for officially, but my hunch is The Corleone Crime Family."
Bogo paused to silence his phone as it started buzzing before continuing. "Sorry about that. Anyways, The Fox was now credited with killing mammals all over the world, but mostly here in Zootopia. As far as we know, he only killed mammals that were criminals and or mammals in criminal organizations. He's credited with killing high ranking members, leaders, and members of Cartels, the Triads, Yakuza, and Bratva. If you're not familiar with some of them, they are the top criminal organizations..globally. He's also credited with killing many drug and nip dealers, suppliers, etcetera. Hell when it came to it he's credited with bringing down entire drug and nip operations. Then there's the smaller ones, pedophiles, wife beaters, extortioners, and so on and so on. He's even rumored to have found and killed the serial killer known as The Painter. In total he's credited with around 300 to 400 murders, but honestly there's probably more."
Vivian absorbed all of the information Bogo had just given her about the mammal he called The Fox. She had to admit it was an interesting tale…but there was one nagging question she had to ask. "This was interesting and all Lt. Bogo. But where are you going with this? What does the mammal, The Fox, have to do with Jack?"
Bogo nodded and said with a little undertone of amusement. "figured you would want me to get to that part."
Vivian blushed a little at that but her curiosity stamped it down as Bogo continued. "What The Fox has to do with Jack is that Jack was under his care. The Fox told me as much when he was in my home. He said he found Jack and that he was taking care of him. Seeing Jack take down the woodchuck like that made me realize that the odds are very high that The Fox, one of the worlds deadliest assassins, trained Jack and taught him everything he knows. It's very likely that Jack knows the actual identity of The Fox too."
Vivian reeled back a little bit in shock at that. It took a moment but avert it she said "I..I just need to process this for a minute…this..is a lot."
At that Wolford and Bogo nodded and Wolford said "that's fine, take a moment. I know Bogo just laid a lot of information on you. It's a shock to me as well, but I doubt it's even close to the shock you must be feeling."
Vivian nodded in thanks and then shifted her gaze to the ground as she shifted her thought process to trying to comprehend and form an opinion on all of the information she was just given. "Jack was in the care of a criminal assassin!? And not just any, one of the deadliest!? Hell, he was practically raised by him! If Jack left the orphanage at six and he's nineteen now that means The Fox was his caretaker for at least ELEVEN years! That's just…incomprehensible…then there's the fact that it's highly likely the The Fox taught Jack everything he knows AND trained him! Jack…trained and raised by an international criminal assassin…."
Vivian just sat there, digesting all of it and trying to decide how it effected her opinion of Jack…and honestly she couldn't decide. On one hand, she was horrified by the prospect that Jack was raised and trained by an assassin…but on the other….he was nothing she could imagine he would be like being raised and trained by a criminal assassin. He wasn't cold or calculating, he wasn't dark, he wasn't scary, he wasn't terrifying, he wasn't quiet and rigid. No Jack wasn't any of those things, a little intimidating yes, as well as intricate and mysterious, and he did have a little edge and aura of danger to him…but that was it. Instead, Jack was sweet, kind, gentle, generous, perceptive, funny, a little withdrawn, engaging, and so many other things. He didn't give off the impression that he was raised by a deadly criminal assassin at all, especially considering he joined the military. But at the same time, she only just met him, only interacted with him that once, so she would have to reserve her judgement for now.
Bogo and Wolford allowed Vivian to process this information in silence, they had dumped a lot on her after all. Bogo took this time to look at what caused his phone to buzz, raising his eyebrow when he saw it was a dating app notification, he wasn't on any dating apps..unless…."Clawhauser!" Bogo started furiously typing on his phone.
Wolford on the other paw took the time to text his wife Cassandra about Vivian and the prospect of a get together between their eldest pup Ralph and Nick. He liked Vivian, she was a feisty vixen and he knew her and Cassandra would hit it off. He liked little Nick to, and knew Nick could use a friend just like he knew his pup needed one as well, outside of family Ralph tended to keep to himself. Maybe having a friend would help bring him out of his shell.
Both officers now finished with what they were doing tuned back in on Vivian as they saw she was done digesting everything Bogo had just laid on her. Her gaze flicked back up to the officers and she said "thank you for that..my opinion in the matter is honestly undecided."
Wolford nodded at that and replied "that's completely understandable Ms. Wilde. He is after all a mammal you literally just met by your own words. So all you really have is your initial first impression and what you've been told by us."
Vivian nodded and said "that's very true, thank you for telling me Lt. Bogo and thank you both again for helping my kit. Now I do believe I have taken up enough of both of your times and I have one more matter to attend to for today."
Vivian stood and Wolford stood as well while saying "and again your very welcome it was our pleasure to help him, speciesism is something that needs to go away and sooner rather than later. Also honestly I wish you would take up more of our time, the only thing left for us today is paperwork and then more paperwork with a few meetings mixed in. Conversing with you is a welcome distraction."
Bogo chimed in saying "he's not wrong, I'm looking at paperwork that rises above the height of my coffee mug and as you can see his isn't much better."
Vivian laughed at that and replied "I don't envy you there. Well I best let you get to it then, it's not gonna fill itself out after all. It's been a pleasure Lt. Bogo, Officer Wolford."
Vivian stuck out her paw to shake theirs and Bogo leaned down to shake first saying "likewise Ms. Wilde, and you can just call me Adonis. Any friend of Jack's is a friend of mine."
Vivian grasped his giant hoof as best she could and gave a small shake, smoothly replying "well then if we're going by first names, then call me Vivian."
Bogo nodded and said "well that's more than fair."
As Bogo retracted his paw Wolford offered his which Vivian took and gave a good shake. Wolford gave her a smile and said "I may not know Jack enough to call him a friend, but I'll still make that deal. You can call me James."
Vivian gave a little smile and replied "alright then James, I'll take that deal then."
Wolford chuckled as he took his paw back and said "I feel like I just sold a car."
Vivian laughed a little at the bad joke and Bogo simply shook his head and said "I swear your jokes and puns just get worse and worse James."
Wolford just pointed at Vivian and said "hey she laughed!"
Vivian looked at him and swiftly replied "I only laughed at how bad it was."
At that Wolford gave a shocked and deflated look to which Bogo let out a hearty chuckle at and Vivian laughed. Wolford crossed his arms with a huff and said "no one appreciates good comedy anymore."
Vivian crossed her arms and quickly said "we do."
Wolford gasped in mock offense and replied "I am hurt good madam! I do believe I shall resend the first name basis!"
Wolford and Vivian stared at at each for a moment before both began to laugh, Bogo only letting a small smile show. Once the laughing session was over Vivian said "while I enjoyed this, I really need to get going. I'm going to see about renting a new apartment, then I have to set up an appointment to get my son into Paragon Grove private school."
Wolford let out a little whistle at that and replied "Paragon Grove eh? Best dang school in Zootopia. My oldest pup Ralph attends. Only thing is it's a pain in the tail to get in, do you have any sponsors for him?"
Vivian nodded a couple of times and said "yes I do. Jack already put his sponsorship in and I also have the CEO of Sparrowtail Industries putting his hat in."
Wolford let out another whistle at that and replied "wow, a second lieutenant and a CEO are some pretty big sponsors. But I hate to inform you that you need at least four sponsors for your kit."
Before Vivian could get disappointed at that fact Wolford continued. "Fortunately I know of a third sponsor for you, me. I'll gladly sponsor your kit."
Before Vivian could even register a thought on that Bogo quickly chimed in saying "and I'll be his fourth. I know how public schools are, and I know how they are to foxes especially. Quite a few cases have come through here and I've handled them all, along with Wolford here. If you can afford to get him into Paragon Grove I'm more than happy to sponsor him. A CEO of a major company, A second lieutenant of a prestigious military group and branch, a first lieutenant in the ZPD, and one of the finest detectives the ZPD has ever produced. *Bogo smiles and folds his arms* I'd say his entrance is pretty much guaranteed."
Vivian, for a number she had now lost track of in the last few days, was shell shocked. "I. I. I don't know what to say…thank you."
Wolford smiled at that and said "you're very welcome Vivian, we're glad to do it. Here.." Wolford picked up one of his cards and flipped it over, jotting his and Bogo's cellphone numbers onto it before handing it to her. "Here take this, whenever your gonna go to Paragon Grove for the enrollment meeting call us and we'll show and give our endorsements in the flesh. Also, feel free to call my number in general, it'd be nice I think if your son met mine. I think they'd hit it off, also I bet money you and my wife would become fast friends. You're a lot alike."
Vivian took the card and replied "thank you so much, the both of you for this. I never expected this sort of kindness. These last couple of days my life has changed so much for the better and just when I think that's it something else comes along and happens…so thank you….oh and I'm sorry James I've been calling you officer this whole time when I should have been calling you detective."
Bogo chimed in at that saying "oh no I think you just inflated his ego. Should have kept calling him officer."
Wolford let out a "hey" and Vivian chuckled some at that. Vivian stood and walked to the door of Wolford's office she looked back and said "I appreciate everything to have done for my kit and for me. So thank you again. You have a nice day, good luck with the paper work."
Wolford and Bogo nodded in response and the Vivian walked out of the office and the building. Looking around once outside she saw a taxi occupied by a raccoon and flagged it down. Getting in the raccoon nodded at her and said in a surprisingly heavy country accent "howdy ma'am. Where to?"
Vivian blinked once in surprise before saying "1955 Cyprus Grove Lane, Sable Ridge Apartment complex please."
Done! So while I could have continued the chapter this felt like the best place to stop it.
So I know I said this would be a Viv and Nick chapter I am sorry to say that for me a lot of times it does not go as planned. Also I frequently forget about the word limit I have set for myself.
But, I can say with confidence that the next two chapters will be Vivian centered, with Nick making an appearance in the second. But before we get there I have to write and put out a chapter each for my other two stories first.
That being said be on the lookout for the next chapters of A True Brother: The Prolouge and Red Hood: Origins in the coming weeks and months. Also, go check em out if you haven't already!
Well I do believe that's all I had to say so until next time this is TheConcernedF0X signing off! See you then!
