Chapter 16:Shocking revelations

The next two days passed smoothly for Jack. Instead of going out on his own he had been attached to a special forces team as their overwatch. Their normal sniper had broken his arm on base during certain party antics that caused him to topple of a roof. They got in a lot of trouble for it and General Wolverton was forcing him to wear a dunce cap around base for at least the next week.

So he attached to them so they could finish their mission. It was mostly quiet, he only racked up two more kills. It was more of a warn the team and watch them work sort of deal. He was fine with it, it allowed him to work more on the Arabic language, he was getting pretty good with if he did say so himself. He also learned a few tactics while watching the team work that he felt would be useful for later.

But now it was time for him to start working with Bravo platoon. They had landed earlier this morning and since then Jack was leaning who they were, watching them from a control tower. Was it weird? Yes, but old habits die hard. He was going to be attached to them for the next four months, so it was best now that he learned who they were, and better yet what kind of mammals they were. He needed to know if there ever was a situation that arose that they had to learn who he was, and better yet what species he was, that there wasn't going to be an issue.

Currently he was watching the leader of the platoon. He was a painted wolf named first lieutenant Bravo Lyaconian, a funny coincidence. He was Bravo of Bravo Battalion, Bravo Company, leader of Bravo Platoon. It was coincidence he was sure Bravo himself or his superiors made possible, either way Jack was going to make sure he had jokes lined up about it.

So far he liked what he saw. Bravo wasn't one of those stuck up leaders that didn't hang with their subordinates and was a real hard ass, nothing but orders. He was the exact opposite, he was hanging around with his entire platoon joking around and being real friendly. It was very obvious that his men respected him, and he definitely looked to be of good character and a good leader. As he lowered his binoculars his reconnaissance done he thought "but that doesn't mean he will be cordial if he finds out I'm a fox."

*Bravo's platoon*

Staff sergeant Deagon, a black furred wolf and one of Bravo platoon's combat medics was eyeballing the nearby control tower. Since they had landed he had felt that he was being watched and had been looking around for an hour trying to find out where that feeling was coming from. Finally he figured it out when he caught the glint of a pair of binoculars pointing right at him. Since he spotted them he quickly figured they were watching all of bravo platoon.

This was suspicious enough so he went to approach his platoon leader and tell him about them being watched. Approaching him from behind Deagon came behind him and whispered in his ear, "hey Bravo, don't look outright. But there's someone eyeballing us through binoculars, control tower. Been watching us since we landed."

Bravo's ears perked at that and he turned and used a handshake and bro hug to look at the tower. Sure enough there it was, a pair of binocular glint. In normal circumstances it would be suspicious and a little alarming, but he had a pretty good idea who it was up there. He'd been given a tip off. "Hmmm indeed it would appear we have a stalker. Not to worry though Brutus, I have a pretty good idea who's watching us."

Suddenly the glint was gone and Brutus stopped looking. "Oh? Who you figure was eyeballing us?"

Bravo hummed and replied "our Periton Sniper Corps sharpshooter. I was told he's…peculiar. I was also told he's not going to come out with us and odds are we will probably never meet him. He's a loner, secretive, paranoid, that sort of thing. Or so I've been told. He doesn't even go by a real first or last name, he goes by a code name. NightOwl."

This conversation caught the attention of some of the other members of Bravo Platoon, Bravo's brother Echo for one was also intrigued. "Oh really bro? Interesting. NightOwl….what kind of mammal is he, must be nocturnal from the name."

Bravo shrugged. "He's a predator, that's all they would tell me when I asked. So yeah odds are more nocturnal, wolf probably."

Echo smirked at his brother. "Care to stake a 20 on it? I bet he's a fox."

Everyone present immediately let out a course of no ways, nahs, you crazy's, etc. simply put no one believed that it would be a fox. Bravo looked at his younger brother like he was crazy and said "dude you can't be serious? Where the hell did you pull fox out of? There's barely any foxes in combat roles. I'll definitely put a 20 on that, 20 he's a wolf and not a fox."

Pretty soon the whole platoon got in on the action, but they bet he was anything but a fox. So technically if he was a wolf, they still won. The only one that was betting on him being a fox was Echo, and the only one specifically betting on him being a wolf was Bravo. Of course there was going to be a matter of figuring out which species he was, there was a few ideas rolling around.

Currently Staff Sargent Deagon was pitching his idea. "I mean it's simple, we just scope around the PSC barracks. He should be there right? We'd see him eventually."

Bravo nodded, "that is a good idea. But how would we know which is which? He is using a code name, I highly doubt he's gonna have that strapped to his uniform."

A platoon member chimed in, "he's got a point. Maybe we ask around there though, they should know which is of their number is assigned to us."

Bravo bobbed his head at that. "That'd cover the bases. Let's go with that plan because I would love everyone's money."

*Four days later, Jack*

Jack was currently in a four story building, on its roof scoped in on his 50. Cal. He was about 600 meters away from Bravo platoon as he watched them sweep and clear stretch of buildings….and he was very amused. He was amused because currently there was a conversation going on about him, and one of them left their mics on and open. He could hear multiple members speaking, including Bravo and Echo.

"Man it's been three days and we still got nothing on this NightOwl!"

Another voice was heard over comms. "No kidding! Dudes a freaking ghost! I mean come on he apparently doesn't even live in the PSC barracks! No one there has even seen the guy once!"

Someone else chimed in. "Except the dude in charge, but he told us to fuck off and that he was a piece of shit. Is he, I don't think so. Don't even know him but I do know that guy was a dick."

Yet another member added their input. "Amen to that. But that's besides the point! How is any of us going to win this bet and take the rest of y'alls money if we can't even find this guy!?"

Bravo shrugged as he added in his two cents. "We'll just have to re-evaluate and make a new plan, there are certain places and mammals on base that there is no way he can avoid. We can ask around them see if anything turns up."

It was at this point a frustrated Echo chimed in. "How are we even sure this guy is real, or even watching our backs!? It's been three days, no one on base that we have asked has ever seen him and we asked a lot of people! Not only have they not seen him they haven't even heard of him! How are we even sure this NightOwl is here? All he does is radio check in once a day and not a single sniper shot has been heard! I'm all for finding out what species he is but first and foremost I wanna know if he's actually out here with us and not back at base eating cicada chips!"

Jack after that last line paused eating the bag of cicada chips he was munching on as he spotted something. Keying his mic he said "Bravo platoon, freeze."

Echo actually jumped when he heard Jack speak through the mic, it was like he could hear them or something. Bravo jumped a bit to in shock, but hearing their overwatch tell them to freeze he quickly made sure everyone followed that command. "Everyone hold fast!"

Just like that the entire platoon froze in place guns up awaiting any potential threat. Jack then relayed his next command, "Bravo leader, you and the two behind you please take three steps to your left."

Bravo, while confused by the command quickly said "you heard the man, Echo, Braxton, three steps to the left."

Once the three moved Jack let out a "thank you" as he put his scope on a sheep insurgent with an AK-47 on the balcony above them. Inhale. Exhale. Inhale. Exhale. Inhale…Fire. In an instant Bravo Platoon, especially Echo, jumped in shock as a headless sheep suddenly plummeted to the ground and impacted with a hard thud followed by the sound of a very large sniper rifle being fired. Echo and the others then jumped back as a red mist began to sprinkle down, the only remnants of the sheep's head.

Echo upon seeing the very dead insurgent, hearing the telltale boom of a 50 caliber sniper, and seeing the red mist summed up what just happened with a "holy fucking shit!"

Jack couldn't help but chuckle as he keyed his mic and said, "does that answer whether I'm here or not?"

Echo at hearing that took another step back from the corpse. "How the!? What is he a wizard!?"

Jack burst out in laughter. Keying his mic again he replied, "no. One of you left your comms on and on the open channel. Got a bet going on what species I am huh? I'm touched you all want to learn about me, really."

Jack began laughing again as the entire platoon immediately began fumbling with their radios to check and see if they were the ones who left their stuff on. Naturally, it was Echo who left his radio on and was immediately met with groans, come ons, dudes, and seriouslys as he fumbled to turn it off with an "oops" leaving his lips.

Bravo shook his head at his brother before scanning to see where the shot came from, maybe if he saw glint from the scope he could subtly pull out binoculars at some point and…."what ever you're thinking Bravo leader, stop thinking it. I'm a careful mammal, you ain't gonna see me no matter how much you look. I commend you for trying though."

Bravo cursed internally as he faced the general direction he knew NightOwl was in. "Ah come one man, can you fault a guy for trying? I wanna score me some of these sorry fools money!"

Jack chuckled at that as he said "part of me wants to be offended that your entire platoon has a bet going on what species I am, but the rest of me is screaming how big is the pool?"

Bravo chuckled as he said "well there's 30 of us and we each put down a 20. So 600 dollars."

Jack shook his head and said "damn I thought I'd be worth more. Now I'm more offended."

Bravo laughed at that. "Well maybe you give us something worth using and I might fork some more cash towards the pool. Maybe tell us something about yourself."

Jack couldn't waste this opportunity so putting on a fake over the top flamboyant tone he said. "Oh tell you about myself!? Well I like long walks on the beach, men in uniforms, and oh margaritas YAAASSS!"

The entire platoon broke out in laughter at Jack's antics over the mic including Bravo. After the laughter subsided and the platoon continued walking on Bravo keyed his mic and said "come on man, something solid. Give us something real."

Jack hummed as he thought about their request, it didn't seem to unreasonable. "Fine I suppose I can give you some clues, I hold the rank of Second Lieutenant and I have green eyes. Go nuts."

This caught everyone's attention and excitement quickly grew. Echo's tail couldn't help but wag some as he said "Ha! Now we know something! NightOwl is a Second Lieutenant with green eyes, there can't be to many second lieutenants on base especially ones with green eyes, cross out the prey mammals and that leaves a very small pool! We can find this guy now and your money will be mine!"

It was at this point Jack chimed in with a question. "You know I'm curious, just what mammals are you all betting that I am?"

Bravo as he strolled along keyed his mic and answered. "Well, we know you're a predator. So I bet you are a wolf, Echo bet you're a fox, and everyone basically bet you were anything but a fox."

Jack chuckled at that, the shock they would get if they ever figured out he was indeed a fox, Echo would be rolling in cash. "Well that's dreadfully boring. The rest sound like they're pussyfooting about. Shame. Real Marines wouldn't take a cop out and pick an actual species instead of playing it safe."

Jack wanted to the stir the pot, and it sure worked. Pretty soon Bravo came over the coms and said "and we know suspect you could be a wolf, fox, coyote, panther, hyena, Jaguar, dingo, tiger, painted dog, lion, or a bobcat. Oh and the pool is up to 1200."

Jack smirked at that as he simply replied "that's better."

The day passed smoothly from there, just like the last three day's it was very quiet, at least on his end. No more insurgents dared come into view. Bravo Platoon on the other paw did see some action while house clearing, a few house containing insurgents, but not many. Honestly Jack was getting kinda bored, but he also didn't think that was necessarily a bad thing.

When it came time to call it a day Jack waited until Bravo platoon cleared out before making his own way back. Entering the base he checked his humvee back in before making his way to his barrack. As he was on the way though he ran into a familiar, and quite attractive face.

"Oh hello there Lyla."

Lyla gave him a beaming smile as she said "Jack! Fancy running into you, how are you doing?"

Lyla as she asked this of course wasn't going to mention that she purposely made sure today that she "bumped" into him. Ever since she met him that day she had wanted to see and talk to him again, he was so…captivating to her. He was attractive, mysterious, dangerous, but also looked and seemed so kind. It also helped she had a thing for foxes and scars, and boom fox with a scar, so safe to say she was attracted to him and interested to see where things would go. So she learned his schedule and "bumped" into him in the hopes she could strike up a conversation.

Luckily for her Jack was in the talking mood, and he had some time before his therapy session. But unluckily for her he was a smart fox, giving her a coy smile he said "Yes a fancy indeed, especially since you are so far from your post, with no sort of gear to deliver, and going the opposite way of your post. Did you really want to see me again so badly?"

Lyla immediately took a furious blush open her face at being so easily found out. She fumbled for words so completely flustered and it was utterly stinking adorable. So much so that Jack couldn't resist letting out a genuine smile as he said "don't worry, I know I'm pretty irresistible. I'm doing fine by the way, just finishing up my first week here."

Hearing the first part made Lyla snort and her embarrassment lessen. "You may be cute and all, but I wouldn't say irresistible. But fine I maayyy have bumped into you on purpose….it's just, after I met you that first day I wanted to meet you again…..maybe even ask you out…on a date."

Jack bobbed his head and hummed, he was worried his was going to happen. "and you say I'm not irresistible. Walk with me, we can chat as we stroll."

In the end they had a very pleasant conversation as Jack walked to his destination, and as to the question of the date she had asked him out on he said he would think about it. Normally he would gently decline but between what David told him and what Evelyn had been preaching to him, he decided it was worth considering.

He bade her farewell once he reached his destination, his barrack, but before he could even walk inside a voice stopped him. "Lieutenant Hunter?"

Sighing Jack turned to face the voice and saw a wolf carrying a very big box. "Please tell me your lieutenant Hunter, this box is stupidly heavy."

Jack immediately trotted over to him and took the box off his paws, sure enough the sucker had some weight to it. "Yeah that's me, jeez what the heck is in here?"

The wolf shrugged "I don't know, I'm just glad I found you, didn't want to keep carrying that damn thing. I do know where it's from though, the States, Sparrowtail Industries."

Jack set the box down and inspected the label and sure enough, it was indeed from Sparrowtail Industries. While Jack was happy that he received a package from them he was also confused, he aphid only told Demetri to send him a single item, the dimming eye contacts and they certainly weren't heavy or required a large box. So this begged the question of just what exactly was in the box, what other goodies did Demetri send him?

There was also the issue that the package took so long to arrive here, Sparrowtail's shipping times were impeccable. It should only have taken two days maximum for it to be delivered to him, not almost an entire week. Jack was starting to sense that something was afoot, that wolf was planning something.

Jack thanked the wolf that delivered the box and then picked it up, taking it to his room. Setting it down on the bed his used one of his claws to open in and then began to inspect the contents inside. There was a decent amount of things in there, more so than Jack originally suspected. Some of the items Jack recognized as projects, and some he'd never seen before, nor heard of. One by one he pulled items out to look them over.

The first item he pulled out was a decent sized drone with watch as its controller. This was one project he knew of, you could even attack a gun to the bottom of the drone. The next item was a much smaller reconnaissance drone, self piloting and linked to the same watch. Reaching a paw back in he pulled out a box of six grenade launcher rounds, taking one out and inspecting it he couldn't really tell what was special about them, but they weren't regular M320 rounds that was for certain.

Putting the round back in he inspected the box again and found a note attached to the bottom of it. Pulling it off he opened it up and saw that the note was very short. "Jack these are Wall Buster Rounds, load them up, fire them into a wall, stone or better wood it goes straight through, and they bury themselves in before detonating."

Letting out a "huh" he set them with the rest of his explosives, making a note to pick up a M320 grenade launcher at the armory. Going back into the box he noticed there was just one item left, the item he wanted more than anything, the dimming contacts. Grasping the contacts he immediately took them out of their box and put them in his eyes, rubbing them to make sure they had a good setting in his eyes. With that done he let out a satisfied sigh as he saw them adjust to the light in the room, a sign they were working.

Checking the time he noted he only had a few more minutes before it was time for his next therapy session, enough time to change. So as he stripped off his gear and such he began to think about just how his therapy had been going. "I guess progress is being made. She's been working me hard this week mentally, had to calm me down several times when I had a PTSD attack. Least she's not using Micheal's method..not that I'd mind to much. But I'm honestly not to surprised I've had a few attacks, she has decided to tackle my root source of issues, my incredibly fucked up childhood. Mom and dad, the orphanage, watching James die and having to bury him, my constant torture. *sigh* of course it's difficult. But yes I think we are making some headway, but only some. So far we've been working simply on the trauma of losing my parents in such a way and my almost killing, trying to break down and work around that trauma. Damn slow progress though, she's good I'll give her that…but I am one broken and fucked up fox tod. Last session after it was over and another step was failed to take me forward on dealing through the trauma I clammed up…again. She said now before we can even get to my trauma we have to work through breaking my many barriers down and working on getting me to remain calm and such…cuz I know I've scared her a few times, she pushed to much to hard…and I'm a scary mammal. Gods I feel terrible for losing control….but I just can't help it! Now I feel like I've made myself take three steps backwards. She still calls it progress. She told me at the end of that last session to think of happy things, good things, good memories, things that make me smile, things that calm me down….. What does calm me down?

Jack unfortunately knew a pretty obvious answer, two actually, and they both entered his brain. "Little Nicholas…and Vivian. When I think of them….I don't know I'm immediately calmed, I'm content even. Just one look at Nicholas' little neckerchief and suddenly I have a little content smile on my face as I think of that little kit I barely know. Then it takes one just random thought of Vivian and suddenly I got a dopey little grin on my face…I don't understand it. Not one single bit. Little Nick I get…but her….one single thought about her and suddenly poof all the bad things melt away. Why is that? Why? Why does a vixen I only met for a day make me feel like that? Then if I combine the both of them why do I stop feeling like I'm a horrible and worthless mammal..and something more? Something….good even."

Jack was pulled from his thoughts when an alarm pinged on his watch, it was time for therapy itself. "Well I guess I'm about to find out just what it all means."

*After the session*

Jack left the session feeling pretty numb. As Evelyn had promised last session she had him go through everything that made him happy and calm so she could come up with methods to calm him down and keep him calm. This lead to him having to tell her about Nicholas and Vivian and breakdown their meeting and everything, he even had to show her the neckerchief tied around his wrist. She took a particular interest in Vivian and just why just the thought of her calmed him down, and what about her did as well. If left him feeling oddly embarrassed as he fumbled to describe things about her that he could think of that made him feel calm and content.

He said things like her eyes, her smile, her scent. Her scent being one he needed to elaborate on which he did, that she smelled of cherry blossoms which he loved, and that his mother had that same scent about her. He came to the conclusion that the simple scent of cherry blossoms always did seem to calm him, make him feel better about things. Which was completely true now that he thought about it, so he quickly tried to cover his embarrassment about explaining the details about Vivian before with stating that maybe it was just that scent of a cherry blossoms about her that made everything about her seem so…great. Of course he didn't necessarily believe that and neither did Evelyn, she quickly called bull on the whole thing which made Jack feel like he just got caught with his paw in the cookie jar.

He finally decided to just try and skip ahead and awkwardly ask the question of why was he feeling the way he was about Vivian. Explaining the absolute absurdity of the whole thing and how he couldn't figure it out at all no matter how hard he tried. Evelyn of course was annoyingly cryptic as she jotted down notes. In the end of their session he was getting fed up with her cryptic answers to his questions and she had ended the session with "you know for a super genius you are very stupid you know that?"

Jack didn't know whether he should have been offended by that statement or not. He didn't get to muse much more on the subject as Dr. Kashesh, the white tiger who had taken his bloodwork his first work here popped their head out of their office. "Ah Lt. Hunter! I was hoping I could catch you."

Jack waved a greeting to Dr. Kashesh. "Oh hello Dr. Something you need from me?"

The Doctor nodded. "Yes yes! I was wondering if you had time for your checkup? Your bloodwork came into today so we could take a peek after to make sure they got it right and all. But that's besides the point, I'm just really looking for the checkup I need to get it on file."

Jack shrugged at that. "Well I got nowhere to be so sure let's do it."

Dr. Kashesh gave him a toothy smile as he said "splendid! Come in then and strip down please, all the way naked I'm afraid. CIA checkups are a little over the top on thoroughness, I need to log things like tattoos and scars, identifying marks you see…just in case…well you know. Afterwards you can put your boxers on for the rest, I just prefer to get the uncomfortable part out of the way early."

Jack sighed as he entered Kashesh's office. "I hope you didn't have plans then if you need to log scars."

Dr. Kashesh after closing his office door, locking it, and shutting the blinds looked at Jack curiously. "I take it you have a few? Besides that one on your neck?"

Jack let out a breath as he began to strip down. "You could say that."

As he got down to his bare fur Kashesh let out an "oh my." As he gazed at Jack's stupid amount of scars. "Yeah, rough life."

Dr. Kashesh nodded as he grabbed the body outline front and back of a fox. "I'll say Lt. Hunter….this is…..extreme."

Jack nodded once. "Let me guess, worse you've ever seen?"

"By far. Only one has come close and he was held prisoner by insurgents for three years."

"Fantastic. Well I know I don't have a career in being a model, so please proceed….and please don't touch the scars on my back, specifically the ones set between my shoulder blades."

Getting his pencil ready Kashesh said "as you wish, I just need to draw…well you technically, fill in your identifying marks on this outline. I'll go through other checks as I do. Please lift up your arms and spread your legs, T pose.

With that Jack nodded and Kashesh started with the scar on his neck and began to work his way down drawing his many scars. It took about ten minutes for him just to reach his nether region and when he did "my you even have a scar on your sheathe! Things got to heated in the bedroom eh?"

Jack groaned at that. Indeed there was a scar down there, about midway on the left side, a small laceration caused by…"I really wish, it's a knife graze. Weasel tried to mug me, had a knife, went for my nether region the asshat. Barely dodged backward in time."

Kashesh whistled. "Damn, I'm assuming he's very dead for that."

"Oh yeah. After I made sure he didn't just neuter me. Self defense of course."

Kashesh chuckled at that as he set aside his clipboard and said "of course…I'm sorry, but I do have to check to make sure everything is healthy."

Jack hated checkups. "Fine."

As Kashesh did his checks to make sure he was healthy down there and nothing was wrong he couldn't help but say "I bet you're a real hit with the ladies, rugged macho fox, certain things wolf sized. They must fall over at your feet."

Jack as he tried to think about anything but this situation snorted and said "you did NOT just comment about my…"

"Sorry sorry, just trying to lighten the mood sense I'm literally obligated by my medical profession to basically violate you. Thankfully for both of us though, I am done with that part."

Jack let out a small breath. "Small comforts. Please continue to my back."

Dr. Kashesh nodded several times as he stepped behind Jack and.."oh my word it's even worse on this side."

Jack cringed. "Yep thanks for reminding me."

"Oh, terribly sorry."

"No worries, just continue."

It took about 20 minutes to complete the diagram of Jack's back and afterwards couldn't help but state some observations he had made. "Okay I know you probably know these things, but I feel I must express them for my sake. Oh and you can put your boxers on and take a seat."

Jack tilted his head a little as he quickly slipped his boxers on and hopped on the table curious. "Okay, by all means."

"Okay, so first your shoulders and height…they are exactly normal for a fox. Your shoulders are much more broad than your average fox..and your height…your height speaks for itself. You're easily a foot plus OVER the average height of a fox, that's well…odd. Especially since the only reasons I can think to as of why are medical conditions of which you display no symptoms of. Then there's some of your fur, especially your hackles and your tail. Your hackles are longer than average, thicker too. More like a wolfs than a fox's. As far as your tail goes it's slightly more bushy than that of a foxes by about 22%. It's all…very odd."

Jack nodded a couple times. "Yep, I've made the same conclusion many times. All independent research I have done about what might have caused all this has led to zilch, and I've been looking for the better part of eight years."

Dr. Kashesh rubbed his chin as he thought. "Most curious indeed. Well Lt. Hunter there's only the basic stuff left now then we can get to your bloodwork."

"Well then let's do it."

*A few minutes later*

With the last check done it came time to make sure his bloodwork was in order. Dr. Kashesh had made extra sure his bloodwork would come back correct so all he had to do is open the envelope and…."oh…oh my…."

As Dr. Kashesh looked through the three forms Jack started to become a little worried. "Uh doc? What is is? Is it bad? It's something bad isn't it?"

Dr. Kashesh shook his head as he looked up from the sheets. "Oh! Nono! It's nothing bad at all! All your tests are fine! It's just….well…I guess there's no easy way to say this since you obviously don't know…that original blood test? It wasn't wrong. Your genes are perfectly 50-50 red fox and Ethiopian wolf, you're a hybrid Lt. Hunter."

It's like the world froze. Everything in Jack's body shut down as he struggled to process the information he had just heard. His parents were foxes! Both of them!...right? Could his mother had been un…..no, no never. "She'd never! Why would I even think that for a second!? But….a hybrid?"

Jack needed to see this for himself. "Please give me that, I want to see the results for myself."

Dr. Kashesh quickly handed the file over to Jack who took it and began looking it over. "Now Lt. Hunter viewing your genome and seeing you're a hybrid answers those observations I had made, I also can deduce from that file the answer you are looking for that you probably already are realizing. Your father was the wolf, since you did not know this I'll make the hypothesis that since Ethiopian wolves look like a cross between a wolf and a fox already he may have dyed his fur if all you ever saw was a fox. Why I can speculate since mixed species couples even among same species is very taboo, he wished to hide himself. I hope I'm not pilling on you to much information, I'm just trying to nudge potential solutions so you can better come to grapple with this."

Jack still in his state of shock and confirming for himself that he was indeed a hybrid, mutely handed the file back as he tried to think hard. "Dad was a pretty big fox…even taller than I was….huh….I guess he did always look a little wolffish. I remember mom joking to him about that, or was it really not a joke at all?...fur dye…"

*flashback*

Little Jackson Hunter was playing around in his childhood home. Currently he was playing explorer in his parents bedroom as they cooked dinner in the kitchen. Moving into his parents bathroom he looked around and spotted some bottles on his dads side of the sink that drew his eyes "ooo"

Reaching up he grasped the bottle and once it left the counter, he immediately dropped it on the ground and the top starting leaking out orange paint. "Oooo paint!"

Jackson leaned down to dip his paw in the paint when suddenly his father came in and scooped him up from behind. "Woah there little one! What are you doing in here huh? Don't touch that."

Jackson gave his father a pout as he said "but daddy why do you get to play with paint but I don't?"

Jackson's father gave him a look as he tried to come up with something to get him off the subject of his "paint" "because that's daddy's paint that I use to paint pictures….but I'm not a talented artist like you or mommy so I just throw my stuff away! So how about this, how about tomorrow I go and buy some paint of your very own so you can do some painting of your own! How's that sound!"

Jackson clapped his paws as his father carried him to the kitchen. "Yay! That sounds great dad!"

Jack shook his head to dispel the memories before the dam was opened. "Paint, in the bathroom. I think not…the consistency was all wrong too…..that means it was fur dye..which means….my dad was a wolf! I'm a hybrid!"

The final revelation hit him like a ton of bricks, so much so he missed Dr. Kashesh saying "there was one more thing. I while drawing blood may have took a muscle sample as well to analyze, at the request of Dr. Spotters and my own curiosity. It's quite peculiar, your muscles are 83% more dense than that of a wolf's, that shouldn't be possible. This would explain your enhanced agility and strength, your senses are another matter entirely though, something that would require more tests. Now I also had a separate blood test run and well….these show certain anomalies in your protein composition and blood. Things I've never even seen before. I'd like to run some more tests…where are you going?"

Jack not hearing a word Kashesh had said got completely redressed and said "thank you for the news Doc." And after that exited his doctors office without a word. Dr. Kashesh deciding he could bring up the subject later simply let him go, he needed some time to process things. Jack shuffled back to his room and opened it walking in and shutting the door behind him. Jack sat himself down at the foot of his head and put his head in his paws, just trying to think…then his satellite phone rang. Not bothering to look at the number he just answered it.

"Hello?"

He received an answer that had him sitting up sharply. "Vivian?"

And done! *Swiftly begins to run away after the cliffhanger of the century*

*while running*

So! I bet a lot of you might have already guessed Jack was a hybrid! Well surprise you were right! He is indeed which explains his size! Who saw it coming!?

So I know Jack's first week in Afuristan was a quiet one but I didn't want to go crazy with it an blow stuff out of proportion! More often than not a sniper mostly just observes and watches over! But don't worry over the top action is indeed in the future!

Who noticed my beta reader and good friend getting a cameo!? For all he's done for me it is the least I could do!

Uh oh! Lyla asked Jack out!? I wonder how that's gonna play out!? And yes she asked him out! It's the 21st century girls can ask guys out!

Raise a paw/hand if you think Jack is a clueless fox! Indeed why does he feel the way he does about Vivian!? Hmmm….

Did Concern just make a dick joke!? Yes yes I did! A few actually! I don't regret it either! They were hilarious!

Oh! Some anomalies in his body and muscle density!? What could that be about!? I'm not sure! Maybe something in the story already could explain such a thing!...

Now up next on A Father Figure! I'm sorry to say you're gonna have to wait a chapter or two for this cliffhanger to be resolved! *runs twice as hard* sorry! But Vivian and Nick needs some chapter time for things that need to happen for them that need to be got out of the way!

I also may do a chapter of ATB before as well! *runs frantically*

Until I can escape the angry mob this is TheConcernedF0X!...hey easy with the pitchfork!...signing off! See you next time!..Ow!
