Harmony

"The mind has a powerful way of attracting things that are in harmony with it, good and bad."

-Idowu Koyenikan

It was the burst of heat and brightness bathing his face that snapped Sasuke out of his daze. He was sitting on the edge of his bed in his 8X10 square feet bedroom. They were barred from the world in their own province. Having already donned his school uniform, he was up in advance.

He could still hear the ticking of the small hand on his wall clock. Sasuke only had a couple of minutes until dawn. He was the newly appointed Specter. He wasn't even a full month old. The others referred to him as the young one and did not know what to make of him. It had been a century since one appeared last and they believed the world didn't need it anymore.

His kin believed that fulfilling their duties would return them back to their realm. That was not the case. Instead, the Cosmos brought him. A creak from his bedroom door caught his attention.

"You ready?"

"Yes," he stood from his bed.

"How did you sleep?"

If he counted the slight dozing off here and there as sleep."I haven't, it's still all fairly new."

"It takes time." His elder, Itachi, barely met his gaze.

No further words were spoken between them as they left the walled-off province.

Until Sasuke decided to interject."I don't need help getting there. I know my way around." He had all maps etched to memory, for this town. He knew all the street names. He was confident he wouldn't get lost.

"You may not believe this young one but it can still be overwhelming. All the new sights and sounds this is your first time leaving the walls of the district."

"I'll manage." He may have been new but he was fully capable.

A light chuckle escaped Itachi's lips, "I remember feeling confident my first day adapted to humans." He tilted his head up to the sky in thought. "Get ready for a rude awakening." There was a coldness in his voice.

Sasuke said nothing further. They walked side-by-side down the concrete sidewalk, garnering strange glances and observing as people ducked and dived away. While walking her babies, one woman almost left the stroller but returned to get her child. As Sasuke gazed at Itachi, he noticed that he was stone-faced and unbothered by people's reactions.

"They believe we are here to take the life of someone or cause a disaster."

This time Itachi caught his gaze.

"You have a soul to collect but until the time is right you are here to stay. This is a perfect time for you to see how humans behave." Silence overcame them.

"They are complex creatures." He added.

"I disagree. Humans are destructive, they are selfish and self-serving. The planet would be better off if we got rid of them."

"You been listening to Madara again, haven't you?" Itachi's voice was smooth and deep, though it held no annoyance, his eyes still narrowed.

"He has a point. He gave me history books to read." Sasuke was grateful for a valuable way to bided his time, and thus he read, and when he was finished with that he went to their library. Absorbing all the knowledge it had to offer him. When mankind discovered they could kill one another again, wars and senseless crimes became inevitable. All of them attacked each other like ravenous dogs.

"I think you should form your own opinion young one. Reading and experiencing are not the same. This world is not as black and white as you may think." Itachi was sympathetic to mankind's plight which baffle Sasuke.

"You're not like the others."

Slowly, the corners of Itachi's mouth pulled upwards into a small close mouth smile. It felt so out of place. This was a rear sight.

"I hope you take my words into consideration."

Sasuke gave an abrupt nod, silence immersing them again, he would listen and form his own opinion. He had to admit he already had a pessimistic view of this world and the human species as a whole.

Upon arriving at the school entrance, both of them paused. There was so much movement like energetic ants in an ant hill all heading to their respective places. Some students just stood outside and chatted, ignoring the time.

It was becoming too much. All the noise, screaming teens, and even the sun became too much and he found himself missing the solitude of his room. Instinctively, tension shot up his jaw. There was no outward discomfort, but Itachi knew better.

He took a step forward, leading Sasuke toward the office. At first, no one noticed them save for the staff who saw their eyes and became alarmed at what they may have seen. It was like a stampede; everyone tried to flee but some girls and guys started weeping in fear.

Sasuke didn't want to admit that he felt overwhelmed, but he did feel a hint of annoyance.

They arrived at the principal's office. They didn't have to say much to the woman sitting at the front desk. She quickly waved them through. Upon stepping into Principal Senju's office, they were greeted by a woman with straw-colored hair and a young-looking face. She smiled gesturing for them both to have a seat, as they did she cleared her throat.

Tsunade was unperturbed by their presence, in fact, she saw this as an opportunity to learn more about them.

"His schedule is ready. I also inform my staff of his arrival. If you like I can have a guide show him to all his classes."

She said this while handing Itachi the schedule. "That won't be necessary." He grabbed the paper impressed when she didn't flinch or snap her hand back. "I know there is nothing I can say to convince you, but I care about the safety of my students and staff."

"You have nothing to worry about." As he wasn't able to show her anything to reassure her, she would just have to take him at his word.

They found his class with ease. Itachi didn't even knock he opened the door as the teacher was spouting out rules his words dying in his throat, Itachi did not stay long he was in and out, leaving Sasuke on his own.

"Class this is-" Right there he stopped listening.

While sitting, Sasuke felt like he was being watched. They were probably waiting for some kind of outburst from him, maybe a gruesome death scene with a scythe and cape perhaps? Instead, Sasuke discovered how scary humans are. He was no grim reaper... Well, not one that they depicted.

Upon reaching for his books, he heard one person cry out. He ignored them and continued to turn to the page that corresponded with the quote on the dry-erase board.

He recalled being barred from the world and his decision to read the curriculum prior to attending his classes they were burned into his memory. He knew what page the quote on the broad belonged to as long as he focused on the subject. Despite the whispers behind him, Sasuke ignored them. He would endure this foreign world for as long as it takes.

Without warning the teacher cried out, "Uzumaki wake up!" He watched the man chuck a heavy wooden easer at the student he referred.

"Ow, what the fuck!" Subconsciously, his breath hitched it couldn't be that easy, could it? It could have been just a coincidence. They were probably a lot of students with the same last name.

Out of the blue, his eyes slowly jerked to the source of the loud sound assaulting his ears. It was jarring and as if that was their cue class the teens started gathering their belongings before fleeing through the door. He had to restrain himself from covering his ears. The noise was adding pressure to his head, he began to grit his teeth. He met gaze with the teacher but this time instead man beckoned him over to his desk.

He was struggling to pay attention as the lights became unbearable. He turned to look at the single student.

"Naruto this is Konoha's newest student Uchiha Sasuke." The was a brief pause and then it registered on the individual face, but instead, the student leaned in causing him to blink and tilt back. Was he not afraid?

"Whoa," His voice was barely above a whisper.

"Naruto personal space, please. This is Konoha's first ever Specter." Iruka's voice was strained. He was trying subtly to warn Naruto.

There was this awkward silence and then- "Damn, does that mean we're all gonna die now?" Naruto was joking, of course, he figured this was one of them. Those eyes. Those eyes were unnatural... Flustered Iruka began to sputter. It was rare to get up close and personal before. They were as elusive as Bigfoot. Maybe it was because he still felt the effects of alcohol and drugs earlier that morning, but he wasn't scared.

"I'll deal with you later. Sasuke, do you need help with finding your next class?" He had no time to answer before Naruto volunteered.

"I'll show him!"

"No Uzumaki I don't think that a good idea-"

"C'mon!" At that point, he smiled up at Sasuke before grabbing him by the hand and dragging him out of the classroom door. Sasuke took note of how warm his hand was. It felt alien to him that he never touched hands with anyone, not even his elders, no handshake, nothing. There was no need.

Iruka just stood, ridged, his mouth slightly ajar as Naruto broke at least four of the rules in only a matter of seconds.

He had released his hand once they were in the school hall. "Sorry about that but Iruka can be... Well, you know. Actually, why would you know? Whelp I'm talking to myself again. Do you have your schedule?"

Uzumaki Naruto… He was a strange one. He gave Sasuke no indication he was scared. He treated him as normal. "I already have the schedule memorized. I can manage on my own, Thanks." He stepped passed the blonde.

"Where's your next class?" He paused.

"F-4," he said over his shoulder.

"Damn, I don't have that class. Hm, what break you got?" His persistence was amusing.

"First."

"Shit, I don't have that either... You know what screw it. I'll see you at lunch." He grinned and flashed a playful wink before running off leaving Sasuke standing in the hallway, dumbfounded. What was his issue? He didn't know what to make of him. There was just a moment left and then the final bell rang.

Right, he was en route to his next class. During his next class, math, a few people flinched even as his hand moved ever so slightly. His social status at Konoha High was that of a pariah. He would not mind as much if people stopped screaming, yelling, or running. He knew this would be his lunch break.

He had located the doors to the cafeteria. Upon passing through, no one noticed him. So far so good. Everyone in there was used to other teens coming back and forth. He inwardly sighed. Most of the long, rectangle-shaped tables were occupied by people except for some vacant spots in between people.

Adaptation would require him to do this, much to his dismay, but the noise was much louder than all the classes combined even the tube lights overhead and large ground floor windows were too bright blinding almost it all hit him at once crashing down upon him like a heavy wave and then. There was a high pitch ringing in his ears as he felt his temples starting to pulse.

"There you are! C'mon, I claimed us a seat."

"I cannot sit in here." He griped.

"You, okay?"

Subconsciously, his eyes clenched shut from the pain. As the ringing grew unbearable he placed both hands over his ears. Not now, not when he was doing so well-

"C'mon we can have lunch outside in the quad."

Through gritted teeth, he gave a sharp nod. Naruto led him out of the grub hall and out to the center counter yard Naruto led him underneath the shade of a large tree. He took a seat on the rectangle grassy patch, beckoning the Specter to have a seat. Sasuke did so the shade was helping but his eyes remained squinted.

"Is it your head?"

Sasuke nodded, his crimson pools looking up at the swaying leaves and branches that breeze felt divine and subconsciously he closed his eyes tilting his head back letting the breeze soothe him.

"Sounds like you're having a migraine, I use to get those a lot, back then."

Those eyes landed on Naruto. He read about migraines before but his first time having had to be here of all places. This place had caused him to have one and he was stuck here for another four hours.

"I'll go grab you something caffeinated and something cold." The blonde got up from his crossed-leg position running off to the cafeteria. Sasuke watched him leave. Madara may have gotten some things wrong not all humans were selfish. This one was okay, though he preferred it a bit more subdued.

AN/

And so Naruto had made a good impression on Sasuke but he still has biases toward humans.
