Marcus Oliver blanched as he took in Jack covered in bloody bandages and was about to start yelling at him demanding an explanation but Jack quickly covered Marcus' mouth. "Hey now no yelling. I know I have a lot of explaining to do but we wouldn't want to wake the neighbors."

As Jack said this he was pointedly looking at the door to Vivian's apartment. Of anyone he would not want to explain things to it was her. "Listen, I am going to give you the very quick version of what happened and I will be taking no questions afterwards as I still need to be stitched up. Nod if you understand."

Marcus Oliver nodded once and Jack continued. "Who you saw enter at this time of the night is a specialized cleaning crew, the kind that make dead people disappear, and a doctor. Who you never saw enter because they jammed the cameras and took the roof access was a group of yakuza assassins. They broke into my apartment to kill me and I acted accordingly, getting some wounds in the process. Why yakuza assassins came after me in the first place is because once upon a time I was a particular thorn in their side. When we first met I called myself Mr. NightOwl because NightOwl was my codename and now it is my callsign. I was once a deep cover dark agent for the CIA and worked under the guise of a criminal assassin for the Corleone Crime Family. Inside is their cleaning crew and Mr. Corleone himself so I will not be inviting you inside. Yes I know I said I am 19 and that is true, I started working for the CIA when I was 12 via falsifying documents. To them I am 24 only a few know that's not really my age and no I will not explain why I joined at 12. Confidentiality agreements will be given you to sign as a result of me telling you this and trust me when I say this, if you breathe a word of what I told you to anyone the CIA will make your lifespan exponentially shorter. Also, especially if you breathe a word of this to Vivian your lifespan will be cut short and in that case it will be by me personally. Nod if you understand."

Marcus Oliver quickly nodded. "Good. Once the sun has risen I will be leaving for Japan. I will be gone for two weeks to make the problem disappear. I will wipe the clan responsible for this attack off the face of the planet and then plug the CIA's leak that got me exposed. If you want me gone because of this we can handle it when I get back from Japan. Now I am going to uncover your mouth, and hand you back your phone. Then I am going to go back inside and finish getting patched up, and you are going to go back to snuggling your wife in bed. Nod if you understand."

Marcus Oliver nodded slowly this time and Jack nodded with him. Jack slowly uncovered Marcus' mouth and handed him back his phone before turning around and reentering his apartment without another word. Once back inside Jack quickly strode over to the spot he had been occupying previously and said, "the issue has been resolved."

Mr. Corleone nodded once and replied, "what did you tell him?"

"A very convincing lie with enough evidence to back it up." was Jack's answer as he allowed the doctor to continue his work. As the doctor went back to stitching Jack asked, "So anything else Corleone?"

"Not really, you gave your answers to me and I find them satisfactory. I will let you finish getting patched up and take my leave. But I would like to speak to you again, catch up, and your goddaughter would like to see you."

Jack smirked at that and replied, "That would be nice Gerald. Sometime next month I'll call you."

Gerald Corleone simply nodded before signaling Koslov to escort him out. Corleone and Koslov made their way to the door, and they paused just for exiting Corleone turning and getting Jack's attention. "Oh and my child?"

Jack paused the sip of vodka he was about to take and answered, "Yes?"

Mr. Corleone gave Jack a grin and said, "Happy hunting Mr. NightOwl."

*Vivian, 8:00 AM*

Vivian woke up feeling refreshed and happy. Last night was fantastic, having Jack there with her and her son was just amazing. She couldn't really even describe it, Jack was everything she could ask for as a father figure for her child, or maybe an actual thought made her smile. She went ahead and got herself and her child ready for the day and once they were ready they exited their apartment at the exact same time as a certain male.

The second Vivian exited her apartment her spine crawled and the hair on the back of her neck stood on end. This happened because the second she walked out of her apartment the feeling of severe imminent danger was permeating the air. Vivian pulled her son closer and began looking, quickly zeroing in on the cause, Jackson Hunter. Only, this Jackson Hunter looked completely different from the one she knew.

Jack was in an all black suit, the jacket unbuttoned letting Vivian catch a glimpse of the firearm on his right hip, and a large black bag was slung on his right shoulder. Even though he was indoors a pair of black shades were set on his face so his eyes could not be seen, but when he looked in their direction her skin crawled nonetheless. He offered them a small hollow smile and quickly buttoned his suit jacket before making his way over to them. As he approached the aura he was giving off got thicker and thicker, and his movements seemed wrong..like there was no natural fluidity as Jack silently glided towards them.

Vivian while concerned about the sudden shift in Jack's demeanor and behavior her son had no such qualms. He wiggled out of her grip and launched himself at Jack with a cry of "Mr. Jack!"

Jack would normally drop down to her son's level to accept the hug but this time he did not, letting Nick hug his right leg. Jack chuckled at her son and tousled Nick's hair as he removed his sunglasses and when he did…Vivian saw nothing. His eyes were lifeless, like that of a machine, cold and calculating and nothing more.

"Hey little one, I would come down there and hug you but I am a little sore. My training got a little rough last night." Jack greeted her son.

Vivian took the opportunity to ask a question. "Is that what happened to your ear?"

Jack glanced at her and nodded. "Yeah not my finest moment, I was practicing close range knife throwing with an underhand grip. I am not the best at it as you can see."

The explanation did make sense to Vivian, but it still did not answer everything. "Well, be more careful please. I don't want to have to keep patching you up when you do something stupid. So what's with the fancy suit and the bag?"

Jack glanced down at his state of dress and replied, "Business trip to Japan. Sprung on me at the last minute of course. Sparrowtail was supposed to send Sarah as she speaks Japanese, but once Demetri learned I was available he practically begged me to go instead since I also speak fluent Japanese. He did not give me an exact reason…but I have my suspicions. So I should be gone for two weeks tops."

Vivian would have to confirm with Demetri when she got into work, but the explanation made sense. There was supposed to be a meeting for Sparrowtail sometime this month in Japan, and Sarah was supposed to go, so it checked out for now. Nick upon hearing Jack was leaving let out an aww and Jack chuckled. "Hey it's only two weeks, and there's no chance of me dying over there so I will come back alright?"

Nick's response was to simply hug his leg tighter and nod before releasing him. Jack then took a step back and curtly said, "well I need to get going, flight leaves in an hour and the drive is 45."

Vivian nodded at that and replied, "Yes and this little one needs to get to school."

With that the two fell in place side by side as they made their way towards the elevator. As they walked Vivian realized something, Jack's breath absolutely reeked of alcohol. That immediately sent her into a spiraling thought process and she wanted to stop Jack in his tracks and question him, but she couldn't, not right now. So instead she let him pass as he suddenly picked up his pace and took a left for a stairs saying over his shoulder, "see you two when I get back." and with that he was gone and the feeling he was giving off vanished with him.

A short moment later the elevator arrived and she and her son stepped inside, Vivian breathing out a sigh of relief as it did. With that sigh Nick looked up at her and said, "are you mad at Mr. Jack again? You hardly spoke to him and didn't smile at him or anything."

Vivian was surprised by the question and quickly realized she didn't have a great answer. Because no, she wasn't mad at Jack, but concerned for him…and in that particular moment a little scared. The Jack she saw today was the Jack that had been described to her by everyone else at his self described lowest point. To see that level of regression in him and as far as she could tell unprompted, was a very not good thing. Especially considering how great last night was, Jack seemed to be happy and looked to be enjoying himself. But maybe it was an act, could he have been faking it? That was a thought that hurt.

After thinking for a moment she responded to her son. "No sweetie, I'm not mad at him. I am just sad he is leaving so soon, and concerned for him. He…I…sweetie did you notice anything different about him just now, beside his clothes? Did you get a..feeling from him?"

Nick was confused by his mom's questions initially, but then he thought about it for a minute. "I mean, his eyes seemed sad. But he probably isn't happy he has to go to Japan either. I mean he just got back from overseas. And yeah I got a feeling from him I guess, a feeling of protectiveness and of safety. Just way stronger than normal, what did you feel?"

Vivian shot herself in the foot on that one. No way she was going to tell her son the true feeling she got, but she could never outright lie to him either. "I felt like he was giving a strong, 'leave me alone' vibe if I am honest. Like he wanted to be bothered by no one at all, but of course you my silly child blew right through it."

Nick gave her a confused look and replied, "I did not get that feeling at all. Maybe he just is tired and hasn't had his coffee yet, like how you are when you haven't!"

Vivian couldn't help but smile at her kids' innocence and good nature. It was a good thing he couldn't feel what she felt coming off of Jack, or at least interpet what he felt. "You're probably right son. Now let's get you to school."

*Meanwhile, Jack*

Jack was still in the stairwell only two floors down and he was busy mentally berating himself. "You dumbass you just let her see the real you! The literal one person you never hoped to see behind the mask just got an up close and personal look! And surprise surprise it damn near terrified her! Stupid stupid stupid! Not to mention she could definitely smell the alcohol on your breath genius! How fucking hard is it to put on your usual mask and use a mint! You fake it till you make it! Idiot!"

Now Jack knew he had to run some serious damage control when he got back from Japan, if he even could. Vivian had a way of peeling back his defenses and getting things out of him, even Evelyn had to work harder to get him to talk. So Vivian would probably be able to pick up quickly if he was plastering on a fake smile. Not to mention the fact that he is going to have to basically walk on eggshells so her medical mind doesn't pick up he's got more than just a cut on his ear. Luckily the doc was good and the wounds would heal quick, but pat him on the back or clap his left shoulder anytime for the next month and it's gonna be pretty hard to hide the pain. But those were problems for another day, for now he had a plane to catch.

*Two weeks later, Japan*

NightOwl was striding out of the yakuza clan's main hub splatters of blood on his all black suit and a handful of impact marks from bullets. There was a burlap sack slung over his left shoulder, a large black rectangular bag slung on his right shoulder, and his right paw was reaching for an item in his jacket. As he walked down the main road leading away from the compound he passed a dead body here or there killed in a various number of ways. If one was to walk inside the building they'd find it entirely empty of the living, everyone inside having been slaughtered. In particular, if one went to the top floor they would find the clan's leader tied to a chair, hands and feet cut off, skin flayed in areas, gutted, and beheaded with "Let Shinigami Sleep" carved into his chest in Japanese.

NightOwl after a few more steps pulled out the device he was reaching for, a detonator and flicked it on its red light glowing dimly in the black of night. After a few more steps NightOwl hit the trigger and the entire compound behind him became an inferno from the incendiary charges he had placed all throughout. The only remnant that would remain of the structure within the hour would be the scorched black ground and memories. This was the same for every scrap of property this particular yakuza clan had called theirs.

Now done with the detonator, NightOwl tossed it over his shoulder and then reached into his pocket pulling out a basic smartphone. Unlocking it, NightOwl went to the premade mass message he created and hit send, tossing the phone over his shoulder right message was simple, it was a before and after of the dead yakuza clan boss and under the picture was a message. The message was simple and in multiple languages with every alias he had except for his real one, NightOwl. Shinigami, the Fox, El Zorro, the Reaper, the Demon (in several languages), and several others. But it all boiled down to the basic message: "Let me sleep."

The recipients of the message were many. Any organization that he had done a hit on in his time as an assassin received a notification from him containing his warning. Whenever he was tasked with teaching an organization a lesson he did not just kill his target, he gathered intelligence, everything that person knew he learned one way or another and that included phone numbers. So any organization that could have the means to come after him just got a very clear don't. He then pulled out another basic smartphone and queued up his premade email and hit send as well, it carried the exact same message. NightOwl was making sure he was heard. Now all that was left was to make sure one more person heard him, and he would do that in person.

NightOwl made his way to one of the yakuza members' cars and got in, it wasn't like they were going to be needing it anymore. His bag was stowed in the backseat and the sack placed in the passenger seat then he was off to his next destination. It took him an hour to reach the luxury hotel and he quickly got to work. The security system hacked and studied, blueprint memorized, guest list looked over, and his route picked out.

An hour later he was on the balcony for the room that contained his target. As he looked into the hotel room he noticed the bathroom door was closed with the light on. To be sure it wasn't a trick he launched a micro drone and after a quick scan confirmed it wasn't a trap. NightOwl then entered the hotel room and waited. Once he heard the sink run and then shut off he opened up the sack he had brought with him and pulled out the head of the yakuza boss. He then timed it perfectly and tossed the severed head, rolling to a stop right at the feet of Assistant Director of the CIA Gregory Elkerton.

Elkerton hadn't been expecting this. He expected NightOwl, or as he was known here Shinigami, to show up and wipe the clan off the map. Elkerton then planned to invite NightOwl for lunch once it was done. But he should have expected NightOwl would pull something like this. So Elkerton picked his heart off of the floor and greeted one of the deadliest assassins on the planet. "Good evening Mr. NightOwl. You certainly live up to your reputation."

In a flash a throwing star embedded itself in the dead boss' head thrown by NightOwl. "You are dangerously close to having the next one go in your skull, Elkerton. I am not a man you should play with and especially not one to manipulate into doing your bidding. You may think you have control over me but I am here to remind you, you don't. Now that I know about you and what you did. You painted a target just waiting for me to hit it. Your threats to expose me are meaningless, you have no evidence to prove just who I am, only circumstances. I didn't realize that at first."

Elkerton had to admit, NightOwl was more terrifying in the flesh than on a grainy photograph. He was starting to have a smattering of doubt that he might have bit off more than he could chew. However, he did not have evidence when he first reached out to NightOwl, but he did now. "It's true, at first I had nothing real…but that's no longer accurate. You see…"

"You had one of your fancy spy cameras record my fight with the yakuza assassins and it included audio? Yeah about that…you remember the part in the video when I disappeared briefly and suddenly the audio got real buggy? I turned on a scrambler the second things started getting juicy, which later included telling me about your fancy camera. The digital copy you made of it has been wiped off everything, and I mean everything. The physical copies in your office and home have been seized, and if you do not give me the hardcopy you have in your bag I'll skin you alive...literally." Was NightOwl's response with a smile that spoke of unspeakable horrors if Elkerton did not do exactly what NightOwl was telling him.

Elkerton gulped but hesitated trying to think of anything he could do. He had not had time to make contingencies and the fact the men with him weren't in here already told him they were either dead or unaware NightOwl entered the building. His hesitation did not go unnoticed and it cost him a cut to the nose as NightOwl sent his shoge out to spur Elkerton into action. It did just that as Elkerton grabbed his nose to stem the bleeding and then quickly made his way over to his work satchel and pulled out the hardcopy within.

Elkerton then tossed it to NightOwl who caught it and placed it in his jacket. "There, was that so hard? You know I gotta admit that you're more pathetic than I thought you would be. No wonder you rode what I did to get in the chair you are now. Any real agent worth their snuff would have had contingencies on top of contingencies, they would plan and think things through. But not you. You got lucky and ran with it making me your one and only crutch and accomplishment. Anything else that had your name on it was a participation trophy, it wasn't your work. You bit off way more than you could chew with me and now you will regret it because from now on you are my bitch."

His smile turned into a wicked grin as Jack continued. "You are now my puppet to play with until you outlive your usefulness to me. So puppet, the first dance you will do for me is changing my narrative. I was not a vigilante, that was a cover on a cover to keep away liability if I was ever caught. What I really was, was a deep cover dark agent for the CIA and worked under the guise of a criminal assassin for the Corleone Crime Family that lied about my age to get recruited at the age of twelve by you. When you found out how old I really was you told your boss that I was a vigilante to cover your own ass since you actually hired me as a kid, AND you gave me a job that would cause the CIA a huge problem if I was ever caught. With this story credit for my achievements still go to you and the CIA, so at worst you will be asked to step down from Assistant Director but won't be directly fired. This in turn gives me more flexibility and if I am ever discovered the CIA will bury it to save face. In fact, you will call him now since I just completed a large operation, my final operation as a deep cover dark agent. Understood?"

Elkerton got caught with his pants down and there was nothing he could do about it. If he didn't do what NightOwl said he wasn't going to leave this room alive. So Elkerton had no choice but to follow NightOwl's commands and he did just that, pulling his phone out slowly and then dialing his boss on speaker. NightOwl watched it all with what could be considered glee and once the call was done NightOwl was gone back the way he came, leaving the yakuza boss' head on the floor.
