At the ripe old age of 17, I finally got my quirk. Unfortunately, the circumstances weren't the best.

The events which soon followed after weren't any better. In fact…

"EX- CALIBUUUUR!" Yep. I am now on the receiving end of one of the world's greatest legend's attacks.

'I'm so dead.'

A Few Months Prior

Quirkless. To be born without a superhuman power, to be completely ordinary in a world of unordinary. I was cursed to such a fate.

Not that I had cared, mind you. Oh, but life sure has a way of making you care. In society's eyes, I'm the weird one. As if some 5 year old toddlers weren't capable of mass destruction, I'm somehow unnatural.

Walking to my next class, I can feel their stares piercing me. A quirkless in the support course isn't impossible, but it's rare. But that same quirkless student is ranked number one in all other academic courses? God forbid.

If I can't be a hero, what's stopping me from being the next David Shield? I mean, I'm sure to be admitted to a University of my choice.

But…That's future "Ren's" problem to deal with. For now? I've got a test to ace.

Himura Household

'No one's home. What a surprise.' I think dryly as I head to my room. Reaching into my bag, I put all of my homework on my desk. I sign my signature on each paper, before starting on my English paper first.

Then it's a whole bunch of other assigned work…You get it. It took a little under 4 hours, but I got it done.

Feeling my stomach begging for food, I head to the kitchen. 'Still no one? Makes me wonder If they even want to be here.' The answer is obvious, they don't.

With my sister gone, doing her job as Icy Frost, the hero. My parents couldn't give a rat's ass whether I've eaten or not. Maybe since they were raised in Japan, it's different? Not that it can excuse neglecting their own son.

'No food huh?' The fridge was empty, not all that surprising. I hadn't gone shopping in 2 weeks.

I wasn't like I was hurting for money either, calling an Uber, I waited patiently for them to arrive.

Fast Food would kill my current diet, so off to buy from the supermarket myself. It's not like I'm in a rush to eat anything.

Exiting the Walmart, I notice how dark it has gotten. 'What time is it?' Pulling my phone out, the screen remains black even after pressing the power button. 'Ugh, I have to walk home?' Left with no other real choice, I start my journey across a couple miles.

The trek across New City, California isn't a long one, but that doesn't mean I particularly enjoy it. At the very least it's a slow day, only a few cars pass me by occasionally.

Hell, even the totally not suspicious guy trailing behind me hasn't done anything yet. '...Just how stupid do you think I am?'

Turning a quick corner into an alley and out my follower's sight, I hide behind the buildings, waiting for them to pass.

"Just how stupid do you think I am? Seriously, I was told you were smart, but that intelligence don't mean much out here in the street." Whipping my head to my right, I feel my blood run cold as the severity of the situation hits me.

"Ah, ah, ah. No sudden movements kiddo, unless you want a bullet between your eyes." Looking down the barrel of a gun, I get a clear look of the person who followed me.

A completely normal man, if it weren't for the fact he had a wolf's snout. "Scared? You should be, you're about a few seconds from death."

My words are stuck in my throat, as I open and close my mouth uselessly, no sound being produced. "If you want to live a few seconds longer, you could answer some questions. Like, what are the Number 2 Hero, Icy Frost's weaknesses? Other than you, of course."

'Ayumi-nee?! Damn it…they're planning on using me as leverage against her.' Finding an inkling of confidence, I glare heatedly at the bastard.

"Ho oh? I'd take that look off your face kid. You're not that important, we already have your parents after all. Well, maybe not your dad…Last I remember, he was peppered full of holes." …W-What?

"You scared now? Good." He continues holding the gun to my face as he chuckles about something on his phone. "Tough luck kid, looks like your mommy spilled the beans before you could." He shows me a phone screen full of texts. "Damn, now I need to actually kill you…I hate killing kids. Actually, how old are you?"

… "I-I'm-"

BANG! BANG!

"I actually don't care."

Falling down onto my back, the searing hot pain I'm currently in is unbearable. The bullet wounds in my chest feel like they're on fire, trying to breath is even worse, as I choke up some blood.

'I'm…dying? N-No, I don't want to die!' But…there was no stopping the inevitable. Choking up some more of the crimson blood, I try to stay awake. To no avail, as the cold darkness crept up on me.

'I just…I just wanted to be her Hero.'

Don't worry, big sis! When I finally get my quirk, I'll become your hero!

Is that right? Well, don't keep me waiting too long.

'...I'm sorry…Ayumi…' My eyes finally closed, I had reached my end…

???

"...Eula! Over…"

"Please…Awake! I'll…To Barbara!"

"...Happened…Amber, Eula…Here…Oh, No…Don't…"

Voices. I can hear them over the overwhelming feeling of pain.

The pain…It hurts less and less. But, the cold…it won't go away.

…I don't want to die!

I…I want to live!

"Haah!" Taking in a deep breath, I feel my lungs shout at me for doing something like that. The icepack on my forehead falls to the side as I scan my new surroundings.

A medical ward of some kind? The room is filled with empty beds, other than mine. Any attempts at getting out of bed fail, turning my head was already painful enough, I seriously doubt my body could handle me straining my wounds.

"You're awake!" Turning my head with a small amount of difficulty, I turn and face the now open door. A blonde haired girl wearing a…a nun/nurse outfit, is the best description I can give it. "How do you feel? Any pain?" She asks, having moved to the side of the bed.

"No, not much." As long as I don't move, that is. "Where am I?"

"Oh! This is the the Cathedral of-"

"Mondstadt." Huh? Another nun? But why is she dressed like that?!

"Eh?! Rosaria?!"

"Barbara. Our patient hasn't quite introduced himself, has he?"

'So that's her game, huh?' The questioning look she throws my way doesn't go unnoticed.

"I'm Ren, Ren Himura." Forcing myself to sit up, I bite down a yell of pain. "..Hng.."

"Ah! You shouldn't move! It's only been a few hours since you've been admitted!" Barbara, I think, tries to lay me back down. Not that I let her.

"I'm fine…but, could you tell me where Mondstadt is?" Maybe a minor city in California? One I've never even heard of. Or maybe a religious Cult? It is a Cathedral, after all.

"Judging by your name and looks, you are Inazuman, correct?" That's Japanese for…Lightning, I think. But, what does that have to do with my nationality? "You were found on the shore of dragonspine, with all of those wounds. You would have no doubt died if it weren't for Amber and Eula…"

Okay…but that doesn't answer anything.

"Not in possession of a vision, fit and able, but not enough to be an issue…so, not a threat." The hell? What's she mumbling about? "Hm? Oh, right. Barbara, you can take care of him, I'm off to bed." Annnd, she's gone. Having been left with more questions than answers, I turn to Barbara, who looks even more dumbfounded than I am.

"Miss?" Snapping her out of her stupor, she regains her composure.

"I'm sorry, Mr Himura! It's just…Rosaria doesn't usually help out…Is she finally coming around to Lord Barbatos' Teachings?!" Barbatos? Wait, no. Not important at the moment.

"Miss Barbara? Do you perhaps have a phone I can borrow? I need to make a call."

Confusion. I'm met with a profound amount of it, that even I'm confused. 'Did she not hear me? I'm pretty sure I spoke cle-'

"Mr Himura? What is a 'fone'?"

What?

"Make sure to get some rest. Your body has lost a good amount of blood. Okay~?"

I give her a nod, as I lay back down. Hearing the door close, my mind starts to wander. 'Did I..? No, that can't be possible. It can't be, but if I was, then, how do I get back? Ayumi-nee, Mom…Dad.'

'Just…How did I get here?' I wasn't able to rest that night.
