The Daughter of Bad Luck
Volume 1 Chapter 5 - Professor H. Branwen's Lecture
'What the teacher is, is more important than what he teaches," - Karl Meninger.
More weeks have passed since the teams camping lesson, Hawke was glad that her cousins and their friends have been improving themselves, even her bond with the students have gone up too, to the point where they would ask her for advice or help. During the break between terms Hawke managed to balance work and spending time with her cousins the three agreed to have the odd film night, that is if both Ruby and Yang have done their homework in all classes, even Weiss and Blake asked to join too. With the tournament coming up and the final tests, Hawke has been running around like a blue arse fly, and with Atlas making a showy appearance does not help, she cannot stand seeing Ironwood practically taking control, she might as well be in Mantle with the way the huge airships are hovering over her head. Also noticing that in town more Dust Robberies have been getting worse, and just when she thought that she final got her sleeping pattern sorted out, she was wrong big time, and is starting to understand why her Dad quit. Still could be worse.
One night she decides to head back to her Flat for a breather, when night arrived she thought she pop into her favourite bar for a few drinks, one where she and her friends would go during her Beacon days, she never go crazy and get herself pissed as a newt, even back then she and Natalie would have to carry the twins back to their dorm, but nowadays she'd only would have the one drink on the anniversary of her Mother, Aunt Summer and her teammate's deaths. In the bar the staff know her well, and if any trouble where to come in she would sort it, dealing with drunken idiots harassing others, human or Faunus either way someone was going to get thrown out the door by their neck, unless they are a guy it would be a good kick in between the legs.
After paying her tab she calls it a night, she walks into a nearby ally to go into her bird form, she takes flight back to Beacon, flying over town, she hears gunshots and flies towards the noise, on arrival she sees Team RWBY just finishing of an Atlas Mega-Tank, A FRICKING ATLAS MEGA-TANK!
And of course, the person in it would have to be Roman Torchwick. Before she could go down to stop him, he gets away on Bullhead. Still in bird form she lands not fair from where the young Huntress Team is, noticing they are alright and not hurt she sighed in relive but they are not out of the woods yet.
Back at Beacon.
Passed curfew, Team RWBY had to sneak back into school grounds, they knew they would get caught if the go into the building so taking a page out of Sun's book they climbed into their Dorm room window, thankful it was unlocked thanks to Yang from childhood sneak outs on Patch. Weiss used her semblance to lift them up to their window, Ruby opens it and jumps in quietly, followed by Yang, she helps Blake in, then lastly Weiss.
"See I told you we would not get caught," Yang says shutting the window, the closes the curtains.
Click!
The lights are turned on, the four girls froze, the back are on the door where the light switch is located.
"Ruby?" Yang says first.
"Yeah?" Ruby replied in a small voice.
"Did you turned on the lights?"
"No, Weiss?"
"How can I? I'm nowhere near the switch," Weiss replied. "Was it you Blake?"
"Not me, Yang?" Blake responded.
"Nope." Yang says popping on the 'p'.
"Ahem," a voice coughed near the door.
"Me and my big mouth," Yang muttered.
The four slowly turned around, Hawke is standing near the door, arms crossed while leaning her back on the door.
"Hello girls, care to tell me why you are coming back at this late hour," Hawke asked, somehow her voice sounding calm but also angry too. "And through the window of all things."
"Uhhh," Yang spoke trying to think of something to say. "We went out on a late-night stroll."
"With your weapons?"
"Oh, you know some team training," Yang replied, adding on the lie.
"Fighting crime?"
"What?! No, no, of course not!" Yang says starting the get nervous. "What made you think that?"
Hawke calmly walked towards them, all four girls became very still, she looked at Yang then Blake then Weiss but when she looked at Ruby, the Huntress made a small whimper.
"Ruby, you wouldn't be lying to me now would you?"
Ruby was trembling, Hawke knows Ruby cannot lie to her, no matter how hard she tried.
"We were trying to stop the White Fang and Torchwick," Ruby said quickly then slopped her head and shoulders in defeat.
Hawke's face remand stoic, her right eye twitches twice, she turns around takes a deep breathe and quickly turns back at them, no longer calm but pissed off.
"Oh no," Ruby whimpered.
"What did I say about doing stupid things on your own dumb asses," she a loud whisper, trying not to shout for all of Beacon to hear.
"We had to do something," Blake responded.
"Yeah by letting the police or a fully licensed Huntsman or Huntress deal with it," she replied back in a normal tone but still angry. "Torchwick is not a Crime Lord of Vale for shits and giggles you know. You'd think you would avoid him not go after him, to some of you more than once I should point."
The four looked at the floor, Hawke is in teacher mode, Hawke sighs regaining herself.
"I understand on why you did it, but you are forgetting that the four of you are first year Huntresses, you may have some experience, but has it come to mind that if something would go wrong, one of you could have gotten hurt, or worse."
None of them replied.
"However, you all seem to be lucky tonight, but if any of you do something like this again, you will regret it so fast your heads will spin. Understood."
"Yes prof Branwen," Weiss and Blake sync.
"Yeah Hawke," Yang replied.
"Yeah Big Coz," Ruby replied.
"Good, I'm not just saying as a teacher but as a friend and family."
Ruby hugs her.
"You're not going to tell dad are you?" Ruby asked looking up at Hawke with puppy dog eyes.
"You're so lucky I'm your cousin," she gets Ruby in a headlock giving her head-noogie, making the silver eye girl giggle. "Fine I won't tell Uncle Tai, but you owe me," she tops head-nooging Ruby to point at Yang. "Both of you."
"Fine next film night I'll pay for takeaway," Yang says.
"Alright deal," she agrees, spits in her hand, Yang did the same and the two shake hands.
"That is disgusting," Weiss muttered as she walks to her bed.
"Oh, lighten up Weiss," Yang says.
"Right then, you lot get to bed it's late as it is, you have class with Port first thing."
RWBY groaned; they complete forgot about it.
"Don't ugh me," Hawke replied. "It's your own damn faults" she heads to the door. "By the way you four are going to help me after class, no complaining."
"Night Hawke," Ruby says.
"Night Rubes."
"Night Hawke," Yang says.
"Night Firecracker."
She leaves the room.
RWBY sighed in relief.
"Well at least we didn't get detention," Yang mentions.
Buuzzz.
Their scrolls go off, they look at the message.
'The after class with me IS your detention' – Hawke ;p
Ruby, Weiss, and Blake glare at Yang.
"Oops," Yang replied with nervous smile.
Three pillows hit her in the face.
There you go, sorry for it being short, writers block is a bitch, even if I only do this for fun it's still a bitch. The next RWBY chapters in my Fics will probably come out after Volume 9 is ended, until then….. oh, bloody hell I hope Ruby will be alright, God I just want to give her a huge hug.
Stay safe and take care of yourselves.
Next chapter will be in 'The Call of the Wolf' or 'Humble & Wild'.
So, till next time. X
