/ Colonel Phillips was pacing at the head of a long table where officers of the US army were sitting at. His hands were clasped behind his back as he spoke. /
Phillips jumped out of the jeep, angrily pacing towards the Howling Commandos, who stood in attention, waiting for him, with Steve Rogers in the front.
"Where is Carter?"
"In our tent, sir."
"Why isn't she in the hospital tent?"
"Because it stinks it in there. We thought that it would not be beneficial for her recovery." Answered Barnes with a straight face.
/
"The first thing you need to know about Howling commando is… that I trust them! Therefore, if they behave weirdly, they have a good reason for it!"
/
Ask a stupid question and you will have a stupid answer. Phillips thought. He marched next to the line of Howling commandos and stopped in front of Steve.
"Is there anything I need to know about the situation, captain?"
"Agent Carter told me that she needed to talk to you ASAP, sir."
"Is she able to?"
"I guess, sir. "
"Lead the way, then."
Steve stepped out, right leg first and led the colonel to their tent.
"Why was not Dugan at the line-up?"
"He is keeping watch, sir."
"Rogers, what the hell happened in there?" Phillips stopped and so did Steve.
"Sir, Dugan is keeping an eye on Agent Carter. We think that she was not shot unintentionally. There were twenty men and he aimed at her, and it was not because she is a woman. According to her behaviour, after she broke the code, I think she knows something important."
Phillips nodded and then moved his head towards the path in front of them. Steve took the lead and opened the first tent.
Dugan was sitting on the bed next to the entrance, his weapon ready.
"Colonel, nice to meet you. Sorry for not being at the line-up. I was playing a nurse."
"Are you trying to find out the profession that you want to do in your life?" Asked Phillips amusedly.
"Yes sir. But I am afraid that the white dress would not suit me much."
Phillips looked around the tent. While he was talking with Dugan, Steve moved to the bed in the middle. He put his hand on Peggy's arm and shook her a little. She jerked and looked up at him. The shock in her eyes told him that she was sleeping.
"Colonel is here," he whispered and as she nodded, he retreated towards Dugan.
Phillips approached her and sat down on a bed to be in front of her face. She was pale and had dark circles around her eyes, but she looked fully awake. "Sir…" she made a move to sit up, but he quickly told her not to.
"Rogers told me you have some important information for me."
She looked around. She did not want to move the rule he taught her. Do not speak about secrets in front of anyone.
Phillips got it but shook his head.
"Is it something concerning the Howling commandos?" He whispered.
"No, sir, it is not."
"Then I think that you can speak."
"Sir, the code that I broke... It was a version of the one-pad system, but there was a keyword which I am concerned about. They need to use these keywords carefully because when you find out what is it, the message is legible to anyone. But this was too easy."
"Do you think that it was a trap?"
"No, sir, something else. The keyword was boy." She swallowed hard.
"Boy?"
"Yes, sir. I mean… when you think about keywords, you need to use a word that is close to the aim of the mission, so the recipients are able to decode it. It is usually something like Hydra, Germany, or even America… It can mark the am OR it can be just a world well known to both sides."
"Do you think that they want to get some boy?"
She shook her head and continued.
"I think that it is a nickname for someone."
"Ok, Carter, but we got the mole. You got him."
She shook her head again.
"The fact that we found a double agent who was about to deliver our weapons to the enemy suggests, that there are more of them. Delivery men are usually not also the code breakers."
"Ok, Carter, I get it, but what is so special about the word boy?"
"I have heard to use the term boy to describe one of our soldiers…" she started carefully.
"Continue," Phillips encouraged her.
"Sir, it might be a coincidence and I might be absolutely wrong about it. But I heard a few soldiers using the word boy as a nickname for Captain America. Back then in the training camp. When Steve Rogers was a brand-new recruit."
"Who used it?"
"Hodges came up with that, sir. I do not want to bring charges, but I know that Hodge is operating somewhere nearby. I also know that he tried the course for code breakers and that he failed there. And it is not all. The man we caught… was in the camp at the same time as Hodges and Steve. And furthermore," She added, "I think that he is stupid enough to use only three letters long keyword to express his hatred towards Steve even though it made the code easily breakable. His stupidity was one of the reasons I did not let him pass that deciphering course."
Phillips frowned.
"I might be wrong, sir. But I think there are too many coincidences not to check it on."
"Are you telling me that you think that we have double agents in this part of the world and that one of them might be Hodges?" He assured himself. Peggy nodded.
/
"… And the second thing you need to know about the Howling commandos is that I trust them all! Usually, when they have any assumptions, they are right."
/
"I trust you. Let's check it out."
