Author's Note:

Here it is, the start of the grand festival arc. This is kinda the climax of May's Hoenn journey. Obviously, this means this, and the next few chapters shall focus on her. She'll still be around, but from here on out its more prepping her for the next stage of her journey. As for this chapter, we're going to mostly see the appeals. Due to the amount of battles I want to show, we're also going to see the first battle. Expect to see a lot of returning characters for this arc, we're also going to see a couple evolutions in this arc... as for who or when, that'll have to wait and see. This is shorter than the Johto grand festival and the simple reason for it is... I really wanted to fit Hoenn into one-hundred chapters. Once upon a time I planned it to be as long as in Johto but when trimming down the filler in this arc, I realised I could do it in three-parts. I am still open to nickname suggestions for Ralts, some weren't certain of what gender-names to give but given they're gender-fluid I would say don't worry about it and we can possibly make something work. Don't forget to vote in the poll and with that, let's begin

Chapter Eighty-Two: Grand Festival - Appeals

She smiled as Altaria floated down onto the street of Slateport. She looked around and saw some of the other coming in, Brock was on the bad of Ash's Pidgeot with Max riding on Vibrava. The couple were on the back of Dragonite and while they lead the pack, they seemed to stay airborne as the others landed, it didn't take them long to regroup on the floor.

"So we're going to registrar," Serena explained, gesturing to May and herself. "And you'll book our rooms at the centre, right?"

"Sure will!" Brock nodded. "We'll catch you both later!"

The boys took off and the two of them turned. Making their way through the city streets. Along the way to the sight of her first ever contest, they ended up encountering none other than Sakura. Speaking with the magenta-haired Kimono sister, she couldn't help but notice she was cool, calm and collected. A far cry from the nervous which set in during her flight over. Although Serena seemed to notice and gave a hand of reassurance.

Continuing on, the three of them ended up outside of the contest hall. Construction equipment could be seen from the sides, with Pokémon like Machoke performing some sort of work on it. It hardly held the same majesty as it did on her first visit. With a deep breath, they set off inside.

A high pitched squeal about burst her ear-drums as they walked into the main stadium. She looked around, seeing most of the hall still cornered off by work crews. Looking around, she found a group of girls gathered together, being the source of the screech.

"I wonder what those girls are so excited about," Serena muttered, cringing at their over the top behaviour.

"I'll give you one guess," Sakura replied, pointing up to the big screen.

Following her direction, she watched as an interview was being played for the crowd to see. She recognized the female as Gabby, one of the biggest news anchors in Hoenn and she also noticed the person being interviewed... none other than her ex, Drew.

"-so anything you wish to say to the viewers prior to the start of the grand festival?" she asked.

"Just that I hope you all enjoy what I've got in store." He winked straight into the camera which caused another pierced scream to shiver through her. She tightened her fist in anger as she felt herself heave. She once acted like those fan-girls. "With all your support, we can truly make this festival special."

A hand landed on her shoulder and she turned to see Serena staring at her with a determined glare. Flicker of a flame behind her eyes helped her push the thoughts of the green-haired boy out of her head. "Don't let him get to you. If you do then he wins before the festival even starts."

"Thanks Serena," she muttered. Closing her eyes, she let herself relax and let her fists stretch out into open hands.

"Just hold onto that feeling," she added, "then you can use that anger. Your Pokémon respond to your own feelings on the stage. If you all come at him and don't hold back, then he'll get exactly what he deserves. And it'll be on the stage for everyone to see. What better place to show him up?"

Giving a nod, she narrowed her own gaze and continued into the hall. Joining one of the cues, they mindlessly chatted until reaching the front desk, it didn't take too long to reach the desk. A middle-aged women sat behind with a wide smile on her face.

"Hello, how may I help you today?" she asked.

"We've come to registrar for the grand festival," Sakura spoke up.

"Is that all three of you?" she asked.

"No. I'm just a friend watching." she smiled. "But if I could, can we reserve the friends seats in the audience?"

"Of course." She smiled. "That'll be six seats since each competing gets three. I'll just need both of your contest passes and accompanying five ribbons."

She nodded, pulling out her ribbon case and placing it down on the counter along with the contest pass. Scanning each of the trophies from her victorious contests, she slotted the card into a reader on the desk. Putting them back on the counter, she smiled.

"There you go, May Maple, your qualified to compete." Smiling, she took the items back and handed the seat passes over to the honey-blonde friend. She stood back as Sakura did the same with her own collection of ribbons. "Now you should both know; the appeals performance will start from nine tomorrow morning on the beach-stadium. We suggest you get there at least half an hour early, if not sooner. The order of the appeals will be randomly generated."

"So the festival isn't being held in here?" she asked.

"I'm afraid not, we've only got the main entrance currently," she explained, "the contest hall got badly damaged during the earthquakes. Hence the new-build for the open stadium. You should both also registrar your two Pokémon for your performance by six o'clock this evening."

Bidding her goodbye, the three girls walked outside. "I don't know about you guys but I wanna check out that beach stadium."

"Sounds like a good idea." Serena nodded. "Seeing the stage will give you a better idea of who'll perform well on it."

"Sorry but I've gotta call the sisters in Eckruteak." Sakura bowed. "I did tell them I would once I was registrared. But catch you both later."

Waving the magenta haired girl off, as she took off towards the cities centre. Once she was out of sight, the two of them turned and made their way towards the beach. More people seemed to be around the tourist attraction and as the sea-side came into view, she gasped at the structure.

A full floating stage, easily double the size of that from Pacifidlog was just out in the water, with a large screen positioned behind hit. Rows of the seats like in the proper arena were surrounding the stage, with a small section of the beach seeming cordoned off, as a sort of waiting area for the coordinators.

"Amazing, isn't it." Her eyes burst at the familiar voice. She spun around and found none other than Harley stood behind them. "It's hard to believe this is a new creation. "I thought I'd never catch up to you. How are you?"

"Oh, I'm fine-" she let out a nervous chuckle.

"I'm great, made it to the grand festival! And I couldn't be happier except-" he covered his face with his hand, letting out a distinguish whine. "-oh May, I feel just terrible! I know it's a lot to expect you to forgive me! The way I behaved in both Verdanturf and Lilycove was really not nice! But I need to at least try-"

Steams of tears rushed down his cheeks. His hands clasped together as he kneeled down to more of an eye level.

"I am truly very sorry, May." He continued. "Is there any way you could find it in your heart to forgive me?!"

"Oh, yeah. Whatever you say." She quickly brushed it off. Turning to Serena for some sort of out from this conversation. She already knew the teen-in-green would try another trick, but she really couldn't be bothered right now. "Don't even worry about it."

"For real?! You've really forgiven me?!" He exclaimed... his tears magically drying up. He reached out and grasped her hands. "Oh, thank you so much May! I don't think I could be happier?!"

"I think he's laying it on a little thick now," Serena's voice echoed in her head and she couldn't disagree.

"You know, May, during my training for the festival I tried this technique, but I just couldn't get it to work!" He placed a hand on her shoulder. "It's some which if done right would be a sure pass to the battle rounds! I bet a great coordinator, whose been trained by Johto's princess herself could get it to work."

"What's that, Harley?" she asked.

"It's showing off by using use one move in a variety of ways. Just imagine the awe-inspiring displays your Beautifly could use with silver wind!" He went on with a shimmer in his eyes. "Or maybe that adorable ball of energy Skitty and her assist!"

"I guess." Serena interjected. "But what happens if you two end up competing and you already know what move she'll use?"

"I thought you'd know me better than that, May." He moved in front of the honey-blonde girl, bumping her with his hips. "I'd never take advantage of you, after everything which happened before, I just want to help you win! I don't care about myself."

"But you can't do that?!" She exclaimed. "You earnt those five ribbons to get here and you should be trying for victory!"

"Yeah, I suppose." He moped. "I just want to help you! I've heard about the drama going on between you and that Drew!"

"Drew... he's-" She took a deep breath through her grinded teeth, seething. "-you know what. It doesn't even matter right now."

"Oh my, I hate to think there's dishonesty going on here." He covered his lips. "Now I hate to love and leave ya but I really should get registrared. Bye hon!"

"Don't tell me your actually falling for his act?" Serena asked, as they watched he run off.

"Not a chance," she replied, "I just said whatever I needed to, in hopes he'd leave."

Having a good laugh at the futile attempt by the older coordinator, they turned and made their way back towards the centre. She needed to call home and get the rest of her team since those registrared in major competitions have the carry limit removed. It's a shame her parents could be here with them, but she knows they're watching from home. Also not having them around when she inevitable encounters Drew will be a lot less awkward.

Coming up on the red-roofed building, she saw Ash outside with none-other than Clark crouched beside him. The conductor seemed to be rubbing Snorunt's head, giving some sort of advice. As they approached, the blue-haired boy bowed before walking away from them.

"What did Clark want?" she asked.

"He was just giving Snorunt and myself some pointers for ice beam." He shrugged. "Snorunt scared off some of his fans with a failed attempt and he just seemed pleased with the peace."

"He is one of the favourites to win." Serena muttered, glancing through her Poke-gear. "Betting stations all have him in the top spot."

"In case you forgot, I already beat Clark in Fallarbor!" May declared. "Who cares whose the favourite or not?!"

"That's what I like to hear!" Ash cheered.

"What am I going to do with you?" Serena placed her hands on her hips. "I leave you alone for five minutes and your already getting hit on."

"Clark... wasn't..." He paused, burning red cheeks. "Was he?"

Deciding it was her time to leave the happy couple, she inwardly smirked at the flustered way her boyfriend responded. It was obvious she was just teasing him but knowing where that'll normally lead, she just made her way to the videophone to call her parents.

May sat on the section of the beach where the other coordinators were sat, the next morning. While there was a lot of people around, it wasn't nearly as many as she originally thought considering its the grand festival. While she noticed some familiar faces like Drew, Harley, and Sakura, she didn't pay them any attention. Instead, her focus was set on the water-based stage in front of the large audience. Vivian walked out with a microphone in hand.

"Welcome ladies, gentlemen and Pokémon of all species, to this year's annual Hoenn grand festival in one of the major tourist locations of Slateport city!" She announced. "As you can tell, this isn't the usual contest hall and that's due to the damage sustained during the earthquakes a few months back! All of our lovely coordinators today have proven themselves skilled as they have each earnt five ribbons over the last year for the chance to win this!"

An image on the screen overhead showed a golden trophy. With two highly styled handles shaped like Rayquaza and an emerald embedded in the centre.

"The winner will not only walk away with this ribbon cup but receive the converted title of top coordinator!" she continued. "But before that, it's time to meet our judges for this prestigious competition. And once again we've had to make some changes due to recent events. Unable to bring over our normal collection of Nurse Joy's due to their duties following the devastating events, we have a special guest judge. First is the head of the contest committee, Mr Contest!"

A light lit up the elderly man with silver-hair and a red suit, "it's a pleasure to be here."

"And next it's the head of the Pokémon fan club, Mr Sukizo!" Vivian continued. With the smaller man lighting up next to him from the judges panel.

"I'm sure all our coordinators will be remarkable!" he smiled.

"And last but certainly not least, a special guest from here in Hoenn who has taken the title of master coordinator to a whole new level!" She smiled. "A master with water types, former Sootopolis gym leader, rival to our champion and host of his own multi-regional contest competition! It's Wallace Mikuri!"

A light appeared over the final judge on the panel, he was dressed in long white trousers with white shoes, a sort of purple tank top with white shoulder pieces. Turquoise straps attaching the top and bottom together with two wavy accessories of the same colour. Three bracelets on each arm, with a flat white hat finishing off his outfit. The crowd erupted in the largest applause yet. She remembered hearing Serena mention him but seeing this reaction was different.

"It's an honour to return to this lovely region which I get to call home!" He declared with widespread arms. "And an honour to judge a competition which I hold close to my own heart. I originally returned upon news of the events. Not only to check in on my loved ones but to see if I could help in some way with the reconstruction! I truly look forward to seeing what each coordinator has in store and I hope we can turn around the mood after the recent... events!"

"Now our competition will work with today holding all our appeal performances!" Vivian explained. "Normally we'd limit it to the top thirty-two but due to some coordinators who won five ribbons not entering, we'll be limiting the battle rounds to the top eight! To earn a place, each competitor shall perform a double appeals performance on this stage and once everyone has performed, the judges shall make their decision on who'll move on! And just to be clear, while the stage has a tradition field size, we are counting the surrounding water to incorporate more Pokémon for all rounds in the competition!"

She frowned at the thought of some coordinator's earning five ribbons but didn't turn up. She could only imagine it being because of how things turned out when aqua and magma attacked. Many people were hurt or even killed during the earthquake and storm. How easily she could've been one of them... shaking her head, she refocused on

"Now give it up for our first coordinator of today!" Lilian announced, "from Goldenrod city in Johto its Clark Klemperer!"

The blue haired coordinator walked out with a baton stick in one hand and two Pokéball in the other. Tossing both up, a Camerupt and another Pokémon materialised on the field. Each stood still on either side of him as she pulled out her Pokédex to scan the new Pokémon to her:

Charizard, The Flame Pokémon. The final evolution of Charmander. A tradition starter in the Kanto region, this species has received massive popularity in recent years due to unexplained trends. This phenomena has baffled people for ages, along with claims it is a dragon when clearly not.

"Adagio, my dear fellows." He instructed, extending his wand out. "Let's perform inferno for the fine people, if you'd please."

Camerupt let out a loud humph with steam exhaling from his snout. Vibrating in their stance, black smoke floated up, out of his humps.

Charizard extended both claws to the side. Looking up to the forming black cloud, he smirked and lept up into the sky.

Bursting to the smoke, his claws poked out in different directions. With some swift movements, he turned the cloud into some sort of face.

"Largo, Camerupt!"

Cracks formed around the ground surrounding the ground fire type. An intense red flame shot up, engulfing the eruption Pokémon.

Shooting up into the bottom of the cloud, an orange tint burnt through the cracks. A dark blue flame mixed in, amplifying the eyes and razor-sharp jaw, giving off a sort of draconid image in the sky over the stage. A bellowing roar added to the ambience of the display.

"Presto!"

Small sharp rocks broke out of the ground, orbiting around the eruption Pokémon. The flames and smoke fading. Shooting up to the sky.

The fire flying type took off, soaring around the stage. With Camerupt's stone edge following behind him.

"Scherzo, Charizard!"

His wings shimmered into a metal colour and his claws matched. Swirling around the stage, he just the combination to eliminate the homing rocks.

Keeping up his high speed, all the rocks were destroyed by the steel appendages. Leaving Charizard flying straight up as if heading for the sun.

"Accelerato into finale!"

A mighty roar echoed around the entire stadium as solar energy gathered in Camerupt's hump. A bright white beam of grass type energy shot up into the sky, with a blue-flaming partner diving down. Crashing into the oncoming hit, the two moves expanded like a barrier around his flame Pokémon.

Crashing down onto the eruption Pokémon's back, the explosion expanded outwards. Charizard was on Camerupt's back as a loud roar ended the show.

"And cadence." He bowed towards the crowd, with a massive applause erupting from them. Both his Pokémon following in his curtsy.

"What a magical musical to open up our appeals performances!" Vivian announced, running back onto the stage. "Let's see what our judges thought?"

"While certain styles can fall flat if not implemented properly," Mr Contesta added, "I can safely say the conducting of the Pokémon added a sense of ambition but also finesse. Showing the clear coordination put into every move and nailed down to perfection. Well done."

"It was remarkable!" Mr Sukizo beamed.

"The beauty of a dancing flame enhanced by the well conducted piece," Wallace mused. "Only a type specialist could diverse the multi-level of the same element. Staring off artsy, moving onto speed and strength and ending with power and flare... I loved it!"

As the next contestant moved onto the stage, she found herself stuck with her thoughts. The less numbers may help her in having less competition but it's clear that Clark brought his best. That's going to be a tough performance to top. He's the favourite to win for a reason and-

"Mind if I join ya?"

Blinking. She turned to see Sakura stood over head. Giving a small, singular nod, she saw the Kimono sister take a seat next to her.

"It's hard to believe we're here... for some time I never thought I'd make it." She admitted, staring up to the sky. "What'cha thinking?"

"Huh?" She mumbled. "Oh, nothing."

"You nervous?" She asked to which she hesitantly nodded. "Same... this is like when the sisters would put on an open house."

"Can I ask you something?" she asked.

"Sure."

"Why did you decide to take on both the league and the grand festival?" she asked.

"Because I wanted a challenge." She shrugged. "The Kimono sisters would always push us to be the best we could be."

"Sounds tough," she muttered.

"It was but also rewarding," she replied, "there were a lot of lessons, but every sister gets one which sticks with them. Learn to light a candle in the darkest moments of someone's life. Be the light that helps others see; it is what gives life its deepest significance."

"What's that?" she asked.

"It's from the hall of origins holy book," she replied, "the volume on Ho-Oh. Specifically, the creation of the beast trio. You see, when a new sister gets entered into the dojo, we have this special ceremony, and I was fortunate enough to be blessed by Entei."

"Blessed?" she asked.

"It's a great honour for a legend to bless a sister. The others didn't see them but I felt his presence," she explained, "it's hard to explain. But Entei lit a candle in that moment of my life. So, everything I can do for others, in a way, is like Entei's reach across the world. Of course, his reach was inspired by Ho-Oh's generosity back in the events of the burnt tower."

"That sounds nice," she offered a small smile. "Like it's all connected."

"The Kimono sister's whole purpose is to build a society where everyone can be the best versions of themselves," she replied, "so the most people I can reach, the closer I get to achieving that goal. I guess that's also why I decided to take on both at once."

"Calling Sakura Sayo for the stage!" A stage worker's voice echoed out.

The Kimono sister stood up, giving them a small wave to indicate it was her. "Sorry May but gotta go. If I don't see you before then good luck."

Sighing as the magenta-haired girl ran off, she relaxed slightly. Part of her was still nervous about pending performance and rest of the competition but having a friendly face just made it easier. Although it did make her regret her actions in the Rustboro contest even more.

"And now put your hands together for our next coordinator!" Vivian's voice drew her attention once more. "Slateport's own Harley Hayden!"

The teen-in-green walked onto the stage, holding two Pokéballs in hand. Each burst open, revealing his shiny Manectric and Banette on the stage.

A ball of electricity engulfed the dark-furred canine. Expanding out, a single current line creating a ring around the stage.

Banette took off, floating around the single shockwave. Forming shadow balls in between his hands, he left them hovering around the electricity.

Letting out a loud howl, flames spewed around Manectric's mouth. The ghost type stopped, facing his partner. Shooting out a zigzagging black beam with a purple outline from his eyes. A powerful flamethrower shot out of the electric type. Each move clashed close to the discharge Pokémon.

Exploding around the pure electric type, the flames created a ring around him. His eyes shone bright through the flames, giving a sinister vibe.

A manic laugh screeched from his marionette Pokémon as he flew into the fierce looking partner. Swirling in the flames, he floated upwards.

With a fire ball in hand, curtsy of the ring on the floor, it turned a ghostly blue. Tossing it down, it struck the first shadow ball.

The ghost projectile exploded, leaving a shadow of darkness over the stage. A flame sizzled over the shockwave, doing the same to each shadow ball on its path. Covering both Pokémon from sight. She felt her heart thump faster as she awaited the final act.

Thunder bellowed from the sky, a massive bolt striking down into the darkness. Hitting the pure ghost type first, a crackled laugh squeezed out.

Flashes showed the Pokémon in black and white. A creepy grin spread across his face with wide, budging eyes. Like a creature in a nightmare.

Slowing lowering down, not even attempting to move out of the lightening. He landed on the back of his partner. Electricity surged over both of them.

Lighting up the stage, a spew of flames added colour to the creepy light-display. A bright flash blew the entire display away, leaving Harley and his Pokémon.

An eerie silence echoed across the entire makeshift stadium. You could've heard a pin drop. She wasn't sure what to make of the lasting effect on the viewers, but it seemed to be broken by none other than Wallace himself. Jumping up out of his seat, frantically clapping his hands at a rapid pace.

"Bravo!" He hollered. "Seeing a complete and honest style come to life is one of the truly great aspects for coordinators to pull off! Bravo, I say."

A slow, awkward applause built from the crowd behind. While not nearly the reaction Clark received, it was still a decent response although that longing silence of shock and awe might've been more of what he wanted, knowing what the older coordinator was like... he can certainly leave an impact.

"Well... we've seen what our special judge Wallace thought." Vivian mumbled. "But what of our other judges."

"It was certainly something..." Mr Sukizo added with a slight pause. "Remarkable?"

"Lighting displays normally work best indoors but being able to pull one off during the middle of an open stadium is truly a feat in-off itself," Mr Contesta added, "and full commitment from the participating Pokémon only added to the ambience of the entire performance."

Recalling his two Pokémon, Harley walked off. Seeming to absorb the silence from the crowd, as if to soak up the undivided attention. Seeing the next coordinator walk onto the stage to start his own performance. Watching him perform with a Swalot and Pinsir.

"Yoohoo, Maykins!" Inwardly cringing, she closed her eyes before turning to see the teen-in-green running towards her. Forcing her lips up into a smile, she stood, greeting the coordinator with a quick hug. "Oh, how did I do? Be honest. You can tell me if it stunk like a Muk out in the sun."

"No, no. It was very good, Harley." She reassured. "You had everyone on the edge of their seat."

"Well, if you're sure sweetie," he smiled. "But I'm sure it won't be anything compared to yours."

"I don't know about that." She brushed it off.

"What's not to know?" he asked. "Just stick to the one move and you'll blow them away! It'll truly be your swanna-song for the festival!"

"Thanks Harley!" She smiled.

As she stared up to the taller coordinator, she felt her hand tighten into a fist. Part of her really wanted to just knock that smug look off his face. Of course, the best way to do that is none-other than defeat him in the battle rounds. Closing her eyes, she tried to calm herself down.

"Calling May Maple for the appeals performance!" A stage voice called.

Taking a deep breath, she checked the two Pokéballs attached to her belt. Turning around, her heart beat harder, she made her way over to the worker.

Ash stood on the beach and wiped his forehead, glancing up to the bright sun in the sky. He glanced back to the grand festival outside stadium, where a boy was currently performing. Shrugging, he turned back to see Snorunt on the ground by his feet.

He wanted to get a little more training with the ice type and his ice beam. Keeping close by for when his friends took to the stage.

Frowning at the disappointment on his Pokémon's face, he kneeled down. Reaching out, he scratched his newest team member on the head, causing him to look up. "No need to be down, Snorunt. We just gotta keep trying and you'll get it."

"But how long will it take?" he asked. "Maybe my mum was right. I'm not cut out for-"

"No Snorunt, you can't think like that!" He cut him off. "If you let that sort of thinking in then you've already lost."

"What should I be thinking then?!" He asked. "Lapras taught me the technique! That didn't work! Clark told us the best way to expel energy! That hasn't helped! What else am I supposed to do?!"

"Your right... you've got the technique and process down," he muttered rubbing his chin. "You know, there was a time Pikachu had trouble with a move, thunder actually. He got to use the technical machine but couldn't produce the power, even with the technique down."

"So, what did you do?" he asked.

"It only really changed when he got his light ball..." He pinched his lips together. "It was sort of a power boost. Increasing the electrical discharge."

"And that helps me how?" he asked. "I'm not trying to shoot lightning bolts here."

"No but the theory could be the same," he explained, "so we just need to increase your power... like evolving."

"Oh, so your just gonna make me evolve now." He sighed, shaking his head. "How do you plan on doing that?!"

"Well... I could ask Gengar too-" His eyes widened as soon as the words left his lips. "No! Not even trying that can of wurmples!"

"Any ideas you do want to actually try?" he asked.

"Erm." He glanced around, catching sight of one of the performers in the middle of their appeals round. He turned back to the ice type. "Tell you what, leave it with me. We should rest and give ourselves some time to brainstorm. Rushing answers won't help anyone in the long run."

Receiving a small nod, he offered an equally small smile. Pulling out his Pokéball, he recalled the pure ice type and turned to the stage. Making his way back across the audience. As he got closer, he noticed the host walking back on stage as the previous coordinator walked off.

"-and now help us welcome one of the favourites in this year's festival!" Vivian announced. "Part of the Johto Kimono sisters, it's Sakura Sayo!"

Smiling as the pink haired girl ran out onto the stage, he reached the edge of the audience stand. Standing on the edge, he decided to just watch before finding his friends since Sakura is one of the two coordinator's he came to support. He added in his own applause to the rest of the crowd.

She stood centre stage and bowed, dressed in her same kimono dress from Eckruteak. Holding two Pokéballs out, she sent out her two Pokémon.

One of them he reconsigned thanks to Brock having one, Vibrava. Whilst the other, it was familiar, but he had to pull out his Pokédex to confirm it:

Roserade, the Bouquet Pokémon. The final evolved form of Budew. Hidden within the bouquet on each hand are thorned whips loaded with virulent poison. Roserade moves gracefully as it corners its prey and mercilessly lashes them with its whips

Lowering the device, he watched as the Johto-native raised up a small flute. Placing her lips on the instrument, she began to play a simple tune.

Closing his eyes, he focused on the musical tone. It took five seconds before his eyes burst open, remembering the song from his Shamouti adventure.

Focusing on the stage, he saw the grass poison type dancing on the stage. Flying above her, Vibrava matched the movements with an air dance.

Leaves with a multicoloured outline circled out of the bouquet Pokémon. Spinning around the stage. Spread apart and few in numbers.

A high-pitched noise buzzed out of the ground dragon type. Dark-green waves radiated out of him, with the sound adding to the music from Sakura.

Blobs of purple sludge shot up into the air. Being hit by the bug buzz waves, it burst open. Drizzling down over the display which created a background for the trio of performers. As Sakura started the big build up with the tune, he realised there was a second part to the song he never heard before.

Turning into a triumphant tune, the fully evolved Pokémon lept up, landing on her partners back. Green balls of energy trailed off out of the bouquet-hand.

Continuing their air dance, the two went higher over the stage. Leaping of his back, the two made a complete loop in the air.

Falling down parrel to each other, a white beam shot out Roserade's hands. Hitting the stage, it acted as a cushion, slowing her decent.

Backflipping upon landing, she ended up of Vibrava's back. Who looked up and shot out a series of quick mud-bombs from his mouth.

Striking the giga drain balls in the air, they erupted like fireworks. As the song slowed down to a finish, Sakura moved behind her two Pokémon. The entire display slowly faded down. A moment of silence covered the audience as he felt the significance of the performance hit everyone watching.

One by one, claps and applause built up from the crowd. Smiling at the friend-rival on stage, he joined in the applause as the host walked back on stage.

"Truly makes you feel connected to the legends of old!" Vivian announced. "But what did our judges think?"

"A lovely melody to accompany an equally impressive performance!" Wallace continued. "I wouldn't have expected anything less from one of the Kimono sisters! Truly a performance worthy of the other worldly beings."

"Remarkable." Mr Sukizo added, with a soothed, relaxed expression.

"After recent events, reminding us of the beauty and majesty of those higher was a risky move given certain events." Mr Contesta relaxed. "But one well worth the final result. As some of the finest performers in the world, the Kimono sisters influence is evident."

"Now help us welcome our next contestant to the stage-"

Seeing another boy walk out, he turned his attention to the audience. Not really interested in the current coordinator, he made his way through to the seats where his friends were sat. He wanted to get in a little more training with Snorunt, but he wasn't about to miss one of his friends in their first major competition. As he took the empty chair next to Serena, he felt her hand engulf his own hand.

Sitting through the boy's performance, or what was left of it, he they didn't really say much. It wasn't a bad performance but even he knew it wouldn't win any gold stars with some of the competition already shown today. Vivian walked back onto the stage with a microphone in hand.

"And now for a young women whose been trained by a top coordinator!" Vivian announced. "One of this seasons raising stars, its May Maple from Petalburg!"

Running out onto the stage, she performed a twirl through the air. Tossing two Pokéballs up, they burst open, revealing both Bulbasaur and Lileep.

"And May has picked two grass types to perform on such a lovely sunny day!" Vivian announced. "Let's see what they've got in store!"

Rocks floated up from the ground, orbiting around the sea lily Pokémon. Standing off to the side, her second duel grass type shot out a barrage of razor-sharp leaves. Slicing through the ancient power, it crumbled down into small pebbles.

Moving the bulb on her back, she shot out a purple cloud of powder. It hit the orbiting rocks, being caught in the wind current they created.

A yellow cloud of powder shot out. Hitting the orbiting display, the three separate rings decorated the sea lily Pokémon.

Her grass rock type let out a loud cry. Massive vines erupted out of the ground, extending upwards around the orbiting rings.

Running forward, the seed Pokémon shot out two vines of her own. Looping them around the massive ingrain display, she swung up into the air.

Letting go, they spun around in the air. Locking them around another vine, she spun over the top. Continuing her playful swinging all over the display.

In the centre, a mystic healing light covered her revived Pokémon. The appendages around her head extended out, wiggling within the colourful show.

Bulbasaur spun around the top vine, building up moment before launching herself into the sky. Spinning overhead, pink petals launched down like some sort tornado. The orbiting rings raised up and hit the incoming petal dance. Exploding outwards in a colourful-grassy firework.

Falling back down, her vines wrapped around another ingrain vine. Bouncing down, she landed right on top of her second duel grass type.

"The different showcases of the same element has truly shown off grass types serene and tranquillity!" Vivian announced. "So, what did our judges think?"

"A show which truly made the most of the unique stage we've found ourselves on!" Wallace praised. "It's obvious where your training has come from!"

"Very remarkable indeed." Mr Sukizo smiled.

"It showed of the element and calm unity between the two Pokémon quiet well," Mr Contesta added, "but also a more subdue performance compared to some others we've already witnessed today. Not the sort of performance you'd expect from someone who already achieved five ribbons."

Glancing to the side, he noticed the expression on his girlfriend's face. Knowing what was running through her head, he just stood up and followed her down the side of the stands. Linking their hands, they walked through the inner works of the stadium before stepping back onto the sandy beach. Making their way over to the coordinator waiting area, she closed her eyes. A light wave of ESP radiated out of her head.

"May's on her way." She smiled, looking back up to him. Knowing they wouldn't just let anyone back to the coordinator's area. "So... how did training go?"

"Could've been better," he sighed. "Snorunt's taking it hard... and we kinda realised we've been focusing on it wrong."

"How come?" she asked.

"He's got everything down for ice beam but just can't control it... like Pikachu with thunder," he explained, "so we figured working on evolution would be the best bet but with how he's been working for this... I think it's getting a little much for him. He doesn't have the best confidence to begin with."

"You want to try and speed up evolution to boost his confidence..." she muttered. "Well, the training for ice beam would've helped get him into better shape but it should take a massive power boost and high adrenaline..."

"If only I could take some of that from Metang," he muttered, "he's got so much that he's got the opposite problem..."

"Maybe you can." She whispered.

"I don't think mixing up their training will help either," he whispered back, "Snorunt could stop him if the power goes too far and without his own control, he could seriously hurt Snorunt or someone else if pushed. There's a reason I've only paired him up with mon's who can stop him quickly."

"I didn't mean Metang-" she whispered, leaning up to peck his cheek. The sound of footsteps drew their attention and they found none-other than May walking towards them. Letting go off his girlfriend, she moved in and greeted their friend with a hug. "You did great, May, I'm so proud of you."

"Maybe..." She grumbled. "But you heard what Contesta said. I doubt I'll make it through now. After Clark and Sakura... even Harley-"

"You can't think like that, May," she replied, "Mr Contesta sounds mean because he's the head judge. He's meant to be the most critical. There is always something to learn and do better, but you still had a great performance. It would've been difficult to out-do a performance like Clark's so best to undercut them with something more simple and basic. Letting the true beauty of your Pokémon is your greatest strength right now."

"Hey guys, I think the appeals are coming to an end." He pointed to the stage as a girl walked off, leaving the host in the centre.

"And now help me welcome the final coordinator for the appeal stage!" Vivian announced. "Another student of a top coordinator, it's Drew Shū!"

He walked out onto the stage. His Masquerain already positioned on his head. Buzzing lightly, the bug flying type took off and flew to centre stage, spinning around like some sort of aerial dance. Stopping just above the centre, they seemed to be waiting for the crowd to quieten down.

"Bug buzz and psybeam!" Drew instructed.

The duel antenna's vibrated, glowing a multicoloured rainbow which washed over them. A dark green tint radiated out, making the rainbow stand out further.

Blowing the wings around, a silver wind shot out. Disrupting the colourful display, a shimmer shone down reflecting of the silk fur and sun from above.

Spinning on the spot, Masquerain formed massive bubbles which floated out. Decorating the stage in giant bubbles.

"This seems similar to his first appeals we saw-" May muttered. "You remember, back in the Slateport contest."

"If it is then he's in trouble." Serena pinched her lips together. "That's one thing the judges are strict on. If you just reuse the same performance without improving upon it or switching it then you won't make it through... problem is, Drew should know-"

Her words died off as a pink blue shot out of the water. Plopping into the water-filled bubbles, Luvdisc was revealed. Swimming around freely.

Leaping out of one bubble, she dived into another. A blow of wind from the bug flying type launched the bubbles up into the air. Luvdisc continued to bounce between the different spheres of water, making it seem like some sort of dance, high over the stage and audience, sparkling under the sun.

Masquerain shot up a small jet of water. Curving over the stage, it created a mini-rainbow as Luvdisc sailed underneath.

Spinning around, he sent discs of air shot up. Slicing through the lower down bubbles, they burst, and sprinkles of water glistened down.

Continuing onward, it burst the bubble Luvdisc swam in. Spinning in the air, she bounced off the first air cutter disc.

She hit the second one, spiralling before landing back in one of the side bubbles. Swimming around, an icy cool breath seemed to exhale from her.

Freezing the sphere from the inside, the now ice ball started to fall. Falling down closer to the ground.

The bug flying type's antenna vibrated and shot out a multicoloured beam of psychic type energy. Using his psybeam, he held the ball of ice just above his head while his pure water type swam around, near the edge. Striking a pose to finish off the performance.

"A wonderful water display to finish of the performances!" Vivian announced. "For the final time today, we'll see what our judges thought!"

"I truly enjoyed the showcase of Masquerain's majesty on stage." Wallace praised. "It complemented the free spirit and playfulness of Luvdisc!"

"A remarkable close to the shows festivities!" Mr Sukizo beamed.

"Bringing on a previous aspect of one performance was one a risky move." Mr Contesta noted. "But it seemed to be pulled off, by changing enough by adding in another Pokémon's assistance. Allowing the performance to take a whole new life of its own."

"Now that all coordinators have performed, we'll be taking a short intermission!" Vivian announced. "This will give our judges chance to discuss, and we'll see who'll be moving onto the battle rounds tomorrow! The excitement is still to be felt so stay tuned!"

Looking between each other, they agreed to take their leave. Serena sent out a mental message to their other friends to meet up.

Walking back to the centre, light chatted gathered amongst the group. May was mostly quiet and Serena seemed to be the one comforting but he wasn't really surprised. He still gets suspenseful during his league competitions and this is her first time. Upon entering the building, all their attentions turned towards the television mounted high on the wall. Showing off the grand festival, Vivian was taking up the full space.

"-coordinator's moving onto the battle round are here!" It cut to the image of eight images. Sakura and Clark were the first to be revealed. Whilst Drew and Harley seemed more middle of the row. His eyes continued to glance over the images in sight of the brown-haired girl. His heart raced faster with each passing second until landing on the sight of her a couple under Sakura. "And now for the first-round match ups starting tomorrow morning!"

The eight images split up and parted into four separate corners of the screen. Turning over, he noticed the first match of the day being Sakura against some coordinator he didn't know. Drew was next, against someone he couldn't reconsign. Clark was in the third battle of the day, leaving May in the final slot... and she was facing none other than Harley.

An awkward silence surrounded them as he turned to look at May. Her eyes were wide and bottom lip trembling. "You, know, May, any two people entering the same competition could end up facing off at some point."

"Ash is right, May," Serena added, "but look at this way, you beat him in Lilycove, and you can do it again."

"Thanks guys..." She forced her lips up into a strong smile. "Your right. I just didn't think we'd end up facing off so soon."

The next day, May smiled as she sat on the grassy field park, her full team surrounded her. Most of the day had already passed. To one side, Munchlax was flat out a sleep while Skitty ran around. Huntail was in the fountain, looking up to her as Altaria sat patiently next to her. Mightyena took the spot to her other side, sat down like some sort of guard, while Minun jumped between the three of them. Over by her humming Pokémon, the two duel grass types sat in front, with Beautifly resting on the bulb. Combusken stood with his arms crossed, giving a side glance, as both Mawile and Spoink were around him.

"How are you feeling?" Serena asked. She turned to see the honey-blonde girl standing over her.

"Good... nervous." She shrugged. "I'm not sure how I should be feeling."

"Nervous is normal... but once you get out there, everything else will just disappear," she replied, turning to look at her Pokegear. "Sakura just finished her own match... she's joining Drew and Clark in the top four... only your battle with Harley remains."

"Guess I should get going," she stood up, glancing around at her team. "Do you think I picked the right pair... what if-"

"I'm sure they'll do fine." Serena placed a hand on her shoulder. "You've all been working hard, and they get on well. Remember in double battles, typing is even less important and the synchronisation between the pair is what really matters. You've got this."

"Thanks... for everything. Hey erm, can you watch them, please?" she asked. "I'd like them all the chance to watch our battles."

"Of course." She smiled. "Now do what we all know you can do. And show the world what a new top coordinator looks like."

Pulling out her two Pokéballs, she recalled the pair she registered for the first battle and took off across the city towards the makeshift stadium. Her mind hung onto Serena for a while. She's helped her since before her first contest and she possibly wouldn't have made it this far without her input. Out of all her friends, she is the one whose influenced her the most... it's a real shame she couldn't make it into the master class but that just means she needs to really show what they're capable off. She's going to win this grand festival, not just for her or for her Pokémon but for her friend and mentor. It's one reason she picked the pair of Pokémon she did. Both represent significant lessons she learnt from the honey-blonde girl.

Closing her eyes, she ran along the to the beach-side stadium. She inwardly smiled as the fresh ocean air filled her lungs. The thought of a particular water type from her adventure entered her mind. Having the ocean surrounding her is like having Manaphy in spirit supporting both her and her team. As her eyes reopened, she found her ex stood against a lamp-post with his hands shoved in his pockets. He turned to meet her in the middle of the path.

"What do you want?" she asked, rolling her eyes up to avoid making contact with him.

"Just to wish you luck." He shrugged.

"Sure." She crossed her arms over her chest.

"I mean it, from what I've seen of that Harley guy he doesn't deserve a spot in the grand festival." He continued. "Trickery is not what makes a top coordinator. And besides, if he beats you then how can I enjoy knocking you out of the competition myself."

"Like I'd let that happen?" She stomped her foot down.

"You really don't get it, do you?" he asked. "After Fallarbor, I knew I needed to keep an eye on you otherwise you could've made a surprise victory in this grand festival. I know every trick from your team. How they each perform and even what combinations you've been working on... I've been preparing for this match for a long time. The outcome of our match was decided so long ago... now don't disappoint and say my efforts were for a waste."

"You little-"

"Based on the table, it's clear the final battle will be myself and Clark." He shrugged, turning around. "That's the only battle which matters. Others are just for flavour. You wouldn't even have made it this far if not for having a top coordinator take you under her mentorship. That's the only reason you won in Fallarbor, but I couldn't take that risk... now run along, you don't want Harley to win by default."

Her eyes widened and her feet started running. Taking off to the field, she tried to push his words out of her head. Making it onto the sea-side field, she took a deep breath. She wanted to really beat that smug look off his face. As she stood in position, the host walked out onto the stage.

"And now welcome our final two coordinators to the stage, from Petalburg city it's May Maple!" Vivian announced, as she walked up and out onto the stage, smiling at the sight of the mostly plain field surrounded by water. "Originally creating interest because it was revealed she was the protege of a top coordinator and the winner of last year's Johto grand festival. She has truly made a name for herself, winning a lot of her ribbons by facing off against other finalists in this festival! Question is, will she be able to continue this trend on the biggest stage of her young career so far?!"

Standing in the trainers box, she hovered her hands over the two Pokéballs available. She asked Serena to keep the others out so they could all watch meaning only the two registered are by her side. Closing her eyes, she took a deep breath. Reopening them, she saw her opponent walk from the other side.

"And her opponent is right at home in Slateport, known for his signature style it's Harley Hayden!" Vivian continued. The teen-in-green walked out with his eyebrows narrowed down in a frown, while it could've been just part of his act, the small twitch as their eyes locked proved otherwise. "Known for his more unusual combinations, Harley has made quite a name for himself and previous beat May during the Verdanturf contest, so this is anyone's battle!"

"This will be a two on two double battle between these two coordinators with a five minute time limit!" Mr Contesta announced from the judges stand. "Both sides have already registrared their Pokémon! The first to lose all their points will be disqualified or if the time runs out, then the one with the most remaining points shall move on! Now let's allow both coordinator's to introduce their pairings!"

"Spoink and Huntail!" She declared spinning whilst tossing both devices into the air. "Take the stage!"

Bursting open, her pure psychic type flopped down onto the stage, bouncing with a steady rhythm. Hearing the crowd cheer, he turned and smiled towards them, a light pink tint hitting his cheeks. His stubby little arms waving back. While her more motherly Pokémon performed a frontal roll in the air, diving down into the surrounding water with the elegance of some sort of professional diver. She felt a smile flick upon her lips at the reaction.

"And May picks two Pokémon who both have faced Harley in one sense before but both were used during their appeal performances!" Vivian declared. "An interesting strategy but we'll need to see if their battling is as appealing as their performances! And now to see who they'll be facing from Harley's side?!"

"Your time to shine!" Harley declared, holding his two devices out. "Cacturne and Ninjask!"

In a flash of light, the two Pokémon she saw in the original contest against him materialised. Cacturne stood still in the centre of the field as Ninjask zoomed around in a circular motion. Creating a sort of halo over over the creepy desert Pokémon.

"Spoink and Huntail verses Cacturne and Ninjask!" Vivian announced. "Let's get this match underway!"

May verses Harley: Top eight

She tightened her fist as the speed bug shot forward, zooming past her pure psychic type. With spread wings, he struck hard. Heading straight over the water, a spout shot up behind as he seemed to skim for her deep-sea Pokémon.

Leaping up out of the water, the element spiralled over her tail. Swinging it around, she smashed it down. Creating a wall of water in front of her.

Ninjask shot up and clear into the sky as she dived back down. Looking to the bounce Pokémon, he used a little ESP to get back into a standing position.

"And Ninjask starts off quick as Cacturne hasn't moved!" Vivian announced. "This contrast could pave Harley well in the long run but let's see!"

Locking eyes on the bug flying type she felt the familiar tingle of Spoink's mind in her's. "Share the connection, I've got a plan."

"Care to share this plan?" Huntail asked through the connection.

"One shot... with the pearl," she explained, "and we use Ninjask's speed against him. On my command."

Her eyes followed the ninja Pokémon. The yellow and black blur shot down, seeming to head straight for her bounce Pokémon.

"Now!" She shouted.

Turning around, Spoink flicked his head. Sending a psybeam out, it sent his pink pearl flying across the stage. A strike in the back sent him flying again.

Landing on his stomach, he looked up as the bug flying type continued on his path. Heading straight after his pearl.

Huntail lept out with another aqua tail. Spinning it around, she struck the gem and returned it with speed. Unable to turn in time, Harley's ninja crashed face first in the gem. The high-speed collision knocked him down into the water as a wave of ESP surrounded the pink ball, returning it to Spoink's head.

Disappearing from sight, all attention turned to the two water located Pokémon... except for Cacturne. Who still remained unmoved since the beginning.

With a massive leap out of the ocean, Ninjask was revealed in the deep-sea Pokémon's jaws. Spitting him out, ice covered half his body.

She splashed back down, out of sight. The bug flying type remained unmoving with swirls replacing his eyes.

"And Ninjask has been knocked out of this battle!" Vivian announced. "Leaving it as a two on one for May's advantage! How will Harley respond?!"

"Just like this!" Harley declared. "Go and get that sea-snake!"

His grass dark type turned and started running across the stage. Making a long leap, he dived into the water section of the field, disappearing from sight.

The water began to spin around off from the main field. A spiralling whirlpool emerged with Cacturne in the centre.

Arms crossed over his chest as the water splashed around. He seemed completely unaffected by the display.

"Confusion on the water!" She hollered, a plan forming in her head.

Bouncing to the edge of the field, his eyes burst with ESP. A spout of water formed from the centre, erupting around the scare-murkrow Pokémon.

With arms spread out, high in the water torrent, balls of cotton burst out. A blue slivered shot up through the liquid, swimming around with speed.

Her wide-open mouth bite down onto his centre. Ice formed over his torso as Cacturne cried out in pain. Seeming unaffected by the water surrounding.

"Huntail move and blast it Spoink!" she shouted.

Diving out of the spiral, Huntail dived down. Narrowly missing her own teammates psybeam as it struck his chest. The multicoloured beam sent him flying.

"And surprisingly the psychic move seemed to hurt Harley's dark type!" Vivian announced. "The combination of water and ESP has given May a loose version of the move soak, turning Harley's only remaining Pokémon into a water type! That's worth big points for the girl from Petalburg!"

The two Pokémon came flying out of the water with his arms wrapped around May's eel. Green balls of energy sapping out of her body.

"Help her Spoink!" She shouted, eyes widening in horror.

Her small psychic type bounced forward with ESP radiating around his body. He seemed to be moving to the side as to avoid hitting Huntail.

"Fling!" Harley sneered.

Grabbing her by the end of the tail, Cacturne jumped forward. Channelling dark energy through her body, he swung her around across the field.

Crashing her into the side of the bounce Pokémon, both went rolling to the side. The tail spung out frantically as he stopped, looking up to his friend.

"Huntail has been deemed unable to continue!" Vivian announced. "That combination gave May a strong lead, but the knockout has evened it up!"

Her mind rushed with ideas as she tried to figure out how to win this. Pulling out her Pokéball, she recalled the pure water type. Eyes locked onto the previous dark grass type. As she felt each second tick down, her eyes flicked down to Spoink. With a loud cry, his entire body enveloped in a bright flash.

As the glowing stopped, she took in the sight of the now bipedal, pig-like Pokémon. Large ears, a pink snout and oval eyes made up the face. The lower half of his body was black, similar to the overall shade of his pre-evolution, but the upper half was purple. His arms and ears were the same black colour with markings, while the hands and feet were purple. While bigger, the spiral tail no-longer supported the entire body, being proportionally smaller compared to the rest of himself, being pink and curly. Three black pearls decorated his body, one on his stomach with the other two on his head, but Clamperl's pink pearl was no-where to be seen. That connection when they first met the bounce Pokémon was her reason for pairing these two up for this battle.

The first thing she noticed him doing was looking at his arms in surprise. Stumbling backwards, he also seemed a little frown off by his legs. Chuckling at the slight amusement of his astonishment, she pulled out her Pokédex to scan the newly evolved Pokémon:

Grumpig, The manipulate Pokémon. The final evolved form of Spoink. Grumpig uses the black pearls on its body to amplify its psychic power waves for gaining total control over its foe. When this Pokémon uses its special power, its snorting breath grows laboured

Type: Psychic

Ability: Own Tempo

Hidden Ability: Gluttony (Note: This hidden ability is currently unlocked)

Gender: Male

Nature: Hardy (Note: This is unlikely to change due to this Pokémon being fully evolved)

Move(s): Splash, Bletch, Confusion, Growl, Psywave, Odor Sleuth, Psybeam, Psych Up, Confuse Ray, Magic Coat, Zen Headbutt, Teeter dance, power gem, rest, snore, psyshock, payback, bounce

"With a surprise evolution, this one-on-one battle shall continue!" Vivian announced. "But with just over a minute left, the question is, will May and her Grumpig be able to pull this battle back?!"

Without hesitation, Cacturne charged forward with glowing arms. Spinning in strides, swinging the needle arms around like some sort of dance.

Her manipulate Pokémon started wobbling back, trying to avoid the cactus Pokémon. Entering a sort of dance, with Harley on the offensive lead.

Pure white pins erupted out of his arms, shooting out like fireworks. Striking her newly evolved Pokémon as the assault continued.

"Blow him away!" She hollered.

A multicoloured beam shot out of Grumping's face. Striking the temporarily water type, he was shot high into the sky.

"Use the height!" Harley hissed.

Spinning from the blow, he pointed both arms down. Barrages of small brown seeds shot down, expanding over the entire field.

Raising his arms, a psychic shield erupted in front of his body. Bouncing back the leech seeds, they struck Cacturne on his way down. Erupting out in vines around his body, Harley's ace fell down onto the floor. Walking forward, psychic energy erupted out from her newly evolved Pokémon.

Grumpig began a simple dance on the field with the energy surrounding their opponent. Move for move, Cacturne seemed hypnotised into following.

"The makeshift soak move comes in handy once more by turning leech side on Cacturne himself!" Vivian announced. "But we're entering the final thirty seconds, so we'll just need to see who'll be our final finalist in the top four! It's really anyone's battle at this point!"

Her heart thumped harder as she couldn't bring herself to look at the screen. "Finish it with bounce!"

Falling back onto his tail, her pure psychic type bounced up into the air. Spinning around, he spread all limbs out like a star.

Crashing down on top of the dazed opponent. A loud buzzer sounded. Her pure psychic type bounced off, landed on his feet behind Cacturne.

"And that's time!" Vivian announced. "Looking to the scoreboard we can reveal the final coordinator moving onto the top four is... from Petalburg city is May Maple! And now if you look up to the screen, you'll see the match ups for tomorrow!"

Turning around, she felt her bottom lip tremble. Eyes widened as she saw herself in the first-round tomorrow morning... against Drew.

As her breath stuck in her throat, she barely noticed Grumpig rushing over. Jumping and enveloping her in a massive hug, they stumbled back. The crowds thunderous applause snapped her back into reality, but the thought of her next battle continued to plague her mind.
