Chapter 6: Chunin Exam
After the eye oping mission teams 8 and 10 were training harder than ever. Even the lazy ass called Shikamaru found reason to work. The genin worked on taijutsu and chakra control as they didn't have time to train since the Chunin exams. All of team 7 had worked on improving the overall combination and different styles of attacks to confuse enemies after a change in fighting style. Kakashi had also gotten back to training as he wanted to keep pace with his students.
With the exam fast approach, the jonin senseis were gathered in the Hokage office. "As you might know it is time for the chunin exam nominations," Hiruzen started but everyone was focused on Kakashi he arrived on time. Kakashi gave an eye smile and Hiruzen continued. "The Chunin exams are in a week and I have a bad feeling about this, Orochimaru has made a new village and if they attend we might have trouble on our hands." At the mention of Orochimaru, the jonins straightened up and put all their focus on the Hokage.
"Who found out about this village and what is its' name," Gai said enthusiastically. "Kakashi and his genin squad, they were sent to give info on why there were so many refugees from the Land of Rice, and that is where the new Sound village Otogakure stands." As Hiruzen finished many jonins stared at Kakashi like he was a mad man, Gai was shocked "Kakashi how could you let your genin go into an S-Rank mission." "Gai and everyone calm down, my team has a Hyuga and so we observed from afar." Kakashi replayed which made the oppressive feeling in Kakashi's back lessen.
"If you want your team to participate in the exams walk forward," Hiruzen said as Gai, Kakashi, Kurenai, and Asuma walked up all three rookie team Kakashi isn't a surprise but I think it is a bit too early for the other two. I trust their decision. Hiruzen thought but was cut off. "Wait, Hokage Sama, I do believe it is too early for teams 8 and 10," Iruka said and Hiruzen nodded "I do believe that as well but their sensei is confident in their ability so I will take their word." Iruka couldn't agree and saw the Hokage pass out paper for the exam before dismissing the jonins.
As Kakashi arrived at training ground 7 he showed his squad the sheets. "The chunin exam I think this is when Orochimaru is going to try to get Sasuke," Naruto commented and the others nodded. "Do you three think you can handle it Orochimaru is on the higher scale of kage level shinobi and is up theirs with Lord third and Onoki," Kakashi questioned. Naruto nodded as he said "We are all elite jonin level with weight on without them we are kage to low kage level. I think three kage level shinobi can face a high kage level shinobi." Kakashi understood and agree with his student but on the inside, he was crying. My genin are kage level shinobi and me I am only an elite jonin level shinobi as anime tears flowed down Kakashi's eyes.
The following week was full of training and resting to get ready for the upcoming exams. As the day arrived all teams 7, 8, and 10 arrived at the academy. They were told to go to the 3rd floor. As they walked up the stairs groups of genins clumped up with a transform Kotesu and Izumo there yelling "it is too dangerous you won't live," to intimidate the genin. There was a small genjutsu to make the 201 sign turn into a 301 sign in the room they were supposed to be in.
As team seven walked up the stair they were met by Gai's team. Naruto recognized Lee and Tenten and recognized Neji as he was the prodigy of the Hyuga clan as they say he is. "Oh, Lee and Tenten I see you are participating in this exam" Naruto greeted as Lee nodded and Tenten replied, "Yes we didn't participate last year but this year we are." Neji scoffed at the weakens if you could say that in front of him. Hinata is always known as shy and a failure so he thought her existence was worthless.
"I see you are participating Hinata sama I suggest you just leave fate has deemed you a failure and this exam isn't for weakling such as the likes of you." Neji finished his statement only to be blasted with ki by Naruto and Sasuke brought him to his knees. "Talk about our teammate one more time prodigy of the Hyuga I will promise you a life of suffering far worse than T could give," Sasuke said as Naruto got behind Neji with a kunai faster than he could see.
"As you see Hinata'a teammates are strong so they can block her weakness," Neji said gritting his teeth. The ki doubled and Neji was close to passing out. No words were spoken as minimal ki went to Tenten and Lee as they saw the strongest member on their team brought to their knee without even minor difficulty. They walked away as they continued into the exam room. As they walked in Kurma said something surprising, "kit you see that redhead with the kanji of love carved into his forehead? He holds the Shukaku the one-tailed beast. He is the weakest but likes to drive his host crazy by sleep depriving them." Naruto nodded and sat went to go sit down.
"Looks like everyone is here," Kiba said as his team, as well as team 10, walked in. All of the attention was on the rookie genin. Some gulped and Ino didn't even dare to try to hug Sasuke. As the glares died down Kabuto walked over to the group of genins. "You should keep quiet as you don't want to get much attention. But looking at you it does remind me when I first took these exams I was loud and brash." Kabuto said and Naruto asked, "What is your name and how many times have you taken these exams." "Well I have taken these exams 6 times this will be my 7th." "Wow, you must be weak!" Kiba yelled and Kabuto replied, "These exams aren't easy you can die."
"Since you are rookies as a Konoha shinobi I believe I should help you out," Kabuto said and team seven tensed, Normally even if you are in the same village you would just give out info to other ninjas of the same village. "What info do you have," Naruto decides to play Kabuto's game. "Well I have info that Taki, Suna, Ame, and Oto will be participating in these exams, Oto is a new village and since they are new they need to send people to exams like this to show power." "Ok, I would like to learn about the children of the Kazekage," Naruto said and Kabuto pulled out cards.
"Let's see we'll start with the youngest Sabaku no Garra. He has done 12 D-Ranks, 34 C-Ranks, and 1 B-Rank mission. His sibling has the same record as they are on a team together and Kankuro uses puppets while Temari has a battle fan." The run down was too clear, to know the exact amount of mission a genin squad has done is inflation and is work for a spy. Naruto concludes that Kabuto was a spy most likely from Orochimaru. They sat down and Ibiki ran into to room with half a dozen of chunin that sat down.
"listen up maggots, this is the first part of the chunin exam which will be a written portion, you will start with 10 points, and if I catch you cheating you lose 2 points lose all of your points your team loses. There will be ten questions and I will give you the tenth question 45 minutes into the exam." Ibiki explained the exam and passed out the exam. Team 7 understood the purpose and got to work as soon as the clock started. As the exam started Naruto made a shadow clone that transform into a fly and flew around gathering info and giving him the information. Sasuke copy had movements and made a genjutsu to mask his Sharingan and Hinata use her Byakungan to look around and get the information while also masking it with a genjutsu.
As people figured out the question teams started getting out and the Taki and the other Suna team got out. as 45 minutes passed Ibiki shouted out "Ok maggots this will be the tenth and final question. if you take this question and get it wrong you will stay genin for life that is the only exception." Ibiki said and smirked at the terrified faces of the genins. Temari shouted, "What, people are taking this exam for the second time." Ibiki smirked once more "my exam my rule!" As more people dropped out and only 26 teams were left,
The glass shattered and Anko Mitirashi jump up onto the wind as a banner was pinned to the ceiling with kunai and Ibiki facepalm. The banner read the sexy and single Anko Mitrashi. "26 teams Ibiki have you gotten soft?" Anko asked half mockingly. "They are a good batch," Ibiki said scoffing as if he had gotten soft. "That is fine their numbers will be at least split in half after the second exams," Anko said sadistically, and most shivered at the purple hair kunoichi. "Lessen maggots follow me to training ground 44 if you don't arrive in 20 minutes you are disqualified." As Anko finished she left.
Team seven just shunshin to the training ground and the next team to arrive was Garra all in shunshin as well. "Oh hello Garra or should I say Ichi," Naruto finished as his sibling was shocked "how did you know," Temari asked "secrets," Naruto said. "Naruto was your name correct, and hello kyu," Garra said in a monotone voice. Naruto nodded and Temari and Kankuro were stunned this kid had the Kyubi in him. "Garra are you able to sleep," Naruto asked "No if I do Shukaku takes control," Garra explained as Naruto nodded. I do feel the hate and malice in his word he is mad. Naruto thought as he nodded.
The rest of the genin arrived and Anko started "Welcome to the forest of death or my home away from home. In this forest, there are monsters and giant plants, did I mention some are poisonous? You will be given one of two scrolls they are the Earth and Heaven scrolls 13 teams have earth and the rest have heaven. To pass this exam you will have to obtain the scroll opposing to yours, you have 5 days." As Anko finished she smiled at the genins fear and said, "There are also wavers you have to sign so Konoha isn't responsible for your death, oh yes there will be deaths."
As the wavers were passed out the genins signed them and then went into a tent to get their scrolls. Naruto got a heaven scroll and put it in his pouch. as they got to the gate they were assigned gate 16 Naruto segested that they rush to get a scroll as fast as possible. The other thought that it was a good idea and 5 minutes later Anko was on the speaker and yelled "The second part of the Chunin exams begins!" seconds later the forest was full of screams that Anko found a particular liking to.
As team seven rushed off Hinata activated her Byakugan and found a team west of them. As team seven arrived quickly at the genin squad and quickly got behind the team and knocked out the Ame team. As they checked the pouch they found an earth scroll "The one we need perfect," Naruto said, "I see someone with Kage level chakra reserves heading our way," Hinata said and Sasuke said "Orochimaru." Team 7 deactivated their gravity seals and got ready. As they rushed into the forest.
About 7 minutes later Team seven was met with Orochimaru. "Ku Ku Ku Ku, Sasuke's team I have a gift I can give you to help you reach your goal," Orochimaru said as Sasuke smirked "I don't need that mark, or should I say, hickey." How does he know about my curse mark Orochimaru thought. "Orochimaru," Naruto said surprisingly to the sannin and took off his mask. Naruto made 4 clones and they made a barrier to take block Orochimaru's escape.
"Impressive Uzumaki Naruto," Orochimaru said in mild surprise and then blasted ki everywhere. Team 7 stood there and pull a move only their sensei has done" Did you do something Orochimaru," all of team 7 mocked and Orochimaru lost his patience and rushed at the genin at kage-level speeds. Team seven dodges and Hinata closes one of Orochimaru's chakra points. Orochimaru jumped back and thought to himself. they dodge my attack and their hyuga blocked my tenketsu. Orochimaru started to get serious when Hinata pulled out a bow and jumped "arrow shadow clone jutsu." Hinata said as about 50 arrows flew around and covered the arena that was in the barrier, Sasuke got a Chidori, and Naruto started to use the Hiriashin to move around the arrow that had the Hiriashin marker.
Suddenly Orochimaru had cuts in multiply places but dodge the strike that Sasuke sent to his heart. What waits, that yellow flash that jutsu the Hirashin it seems the Hyuga girl use her arrows to spread the markers, and now it is jutsu a playground for the kyubi and the last Uchiha shit. Orochimaru finishes his thoughts as he dodges another blow. Orochimaru knew that he couldn't dodge forever and since the kyubi jinchuriki was the user of the jutsu he has almost infinite chakra. Orochimaru decides to rush at Hinata.
As Orochimaru pulls out the legendary Kusanagi sword he rushed at Hinata. Naruto flashed in front of Hinata and Sasuke swiped with his Chidori. Orochimaru simply dodged and went to stab Naruto. Naruto didn't notice until it was too late. As crimson red liquid poured out of the Uzumaki's chest Sasuke just stood there shocked No, no, no dang it fuck Naruto don't die on me please as Sasuke prey his blonde best friend and rival collapse. Sasuke's sharing shifted into three intercepting eclipses. Is this how Itachi felt after Shisui died is this the mangekyo, Sasuke stared at the blood of his blond and saw his new eyes.
Sasuke looked at Orochimaru with his new eyes.
As Hinata watched his boyfriend get stabbed by the snake sannin all she could think was, please don't die on me. She saw Sasuke's new eyes and thought to herself. That is the mangekyo the eyes that only a hand full of people had achieved. Hinata jumped up next to Sasuke with those white eyes that pierce the soul of Orochimaru. As powerful ki flushed over the lush green forest, Orochimaru felt a shiver, not down his spine but everywhere. Orochimaru uses his ki and equals out the ki being outputted by the genin and rushed with his sword.
Sasuke blocked the sword with his own and his eye started to bleed "Amaterasu" Sasuke said as black flames lit up Orochimaru's body. Orochimaru jumped back and his body was lit all up in flames the pain was unbearable but Orochimaru shed his skin. As Orochimaru jumped back Naruto started to stand up he had a scar where he was cut but he was fine. (Right as Naruto got stabbed). Naruto woke up in his mindscape where he was met with a worried Kurama. "Kit you have been stabbed in the lung I am healing you but you will be out for about a minute." Kurama finished as Naruto just sat there concerned.
As the healing finished Naruto left his mindscape. As our blonde stood up Sasuke looked at the blonde with relief. Naruto looked At Sasuke's eyes and said "don't overuse that," Naruto said as Sasuke nodded. Orochimaru only thought was dam kyubi. As Naruto's eyes turned animalistic and beast-like. His pupils turned red and his whiskers intensified. His nails got longer and his teeth got sharper. Two translucent tails flung wildly behind him and a bubble of chakra covered the blonde like armor. Naruto did a few hand signs and his wind armor appeared. "The kyubi chakra," Orochimaru said as he grinned.
The chakra got nearby jonins concerned and they rushed into the forest. An anbu squad was also sent as Anko, Ibiki, and Genma rushed into the forest. This was followed by cat, bird, and weasel as the anbu squad. Minutes later all of the members rushed into the forest of death and were stunned. Kakashi genin was facing Orochimaru of the sannin. Back in the battle, Naruto engaged Orochimaru and a taijutsu battle as Orochimaru's sword was knocked away by a Rasengan enhanced with kyubi power. He blocked and parried the blonde blows. The battle was fierce Naruto threw a punch Orochimaru dodged and try to block the Kyubi seal. Naruto just flashed away and went for a kick to Orochimaru's head.
Orochimaru went under the attack only to be put on the defensive by Sasuke and Hinata joining. As Orochimaru dodge and took blows he had or run. His tenketsu have been closed and some of his bones were close to breaking. As the snake Sannin jumped back Naruto rushed only to be in a smokescreen. "Shit he ran he reverse summoned," Naruto yelled as Sasuke now held the famous Kusanagi. The barrier dropped and anbu and the jonin were stunned. "Brat what did I just watch "Ibiki ask as Naruto rubbed his head. "We have been training together since the academy and teamwork and determination brings, well you see the results," Naruto explains as some started to figure out who the blonde jinchuriki truly was.
"Minato's brat, am I correct," Anko said as Naruto nodded. "Anyway my clone has made a Hiraishin marker at the tower and so by," Naruto said as the trio disappeared. "They are something," Genma said as the five others with him nodded and they left. Naruto drives the tower with his two teammates and walked in. They solve the riddle written on the wall and open the scroll revealing Iruka. "Wow, I thought that you guys would first know that you are really like jonin but you're second." Iruka said as Naruto replied, "We ran into some trouble Orochimaru." Naruto finished as he walked past Iruka who was about to pass out.
They arrived at the second floor where they saw Garra's team. "Garra I am a jinchuriki you are too the only difference is that my seal is secure while yours is bad they are why you couldn't sleep." "Uzumaki what is this about mother said she wants blood," Garra said as ki flooded the area. "Shukaku you call your mother he can control and he gives you the ability to control sand. That protected layer of sand is from your real mother she sacrificed all of her offensive ability and made a defensive layer that would protect you from everything truly motherly love." Naruto finished as Garra was breaking down "That isn't true it can't be," Garra said.
"The pain the loneliness and the fear people looked at you with is all you know. I know that feeling too well I am a jinchuriki I don't live for myself. For people to acknowledge you, you have to not live for yourself. To protect others is how you get people to acknowledge and they will acknowledge you forever." Naruto said as Gaara's reason and morals started to crumble. "If you want I can be your first friend and fix your seal so you can sleep," Naruto adds as Garra smiles an honest smile.
"I would be able to sleep without Shukaku taking over," Gaara said as Naruto nodded. "We can start right now," Gaara asked as Naruto signaled the sand sibling over. They arrived at the room that team 7 was given and Naruto put up a privacy seal. "Gaara all I need for you to do is to lay down." Gaara nodded and laid down. Naruto found the seal that seals Shukaku and it was painful it was the worst seal you could have for sealing a bijuu. Naruto made the eight trigrams seal on Gaara's stomach and broke to old seal. Naruto transferred Shukaku to the new seal. "Eight trigrams seal, Seal!" Naruto shouted and locked Shukaku up. As Gaara fell asleep. Kankuro just smile and Temari was in tears
They were in debt to Konoha even though they were planning to invade. Naruto saw Temari's face wavering and knew something was up. "So what are you hiding if you lie we will kill you," Naruto said blasting ki that made Gaara look like a child's play. "O-to and Suna are planning to invade during the third stage of the exam," Temari said stuttering. Naruto nodded and said, "take your brother and leave."
As Naruto went to report to the Hokage Kabuto's team arrived. He paid little mind to the most likely jonin level spy and went to the Hokage office that was placed in the tower. As he walked in three anbu and jonin were reporting what happened to the Hokage. As Naruto walked into the room got silent as Naruto explain what was going to happen during to third part of the chunin exams. As the jonin were shocked how could Suna do that? "Naruto where did you get this information?" Hiruzen questioned.
"Well, when I drive at the tower we were the second to is due to the encounter, and the team that was there was and team. That team consisted of the Kazekage children and the team had a jinchuriki as my tenet told me. The jinchuriki was the youngest of the siblings and he was crazy. Shukaku tends to drive its host crazy and he hasn't slept in 12 years." "twelve years" Anko said shocked. "Yes, twelve years," Naruto said.
"I fixed his seal and it is the same one I have and now Shukaku won't be able to influence and when I saw the oldest Temari lips tremble I knew there was another level to this problem." Naruto finished as Ibiki started "So you interrogate them and they spilled it." Naruto nodded and Hokage cut in "Naruto I knew about all of your training and your father's name might grow bigger as you grow. I do believe you will and your teammates will be the next sannin." "Thank you," Naruto said before leaving.
