Author's Note:

Here it is, the final evolution of one of our main gangs Pokémon in Hoenn (kinda)... based on the chapter title, I'm sure none of you can guess who it is (JK). I want to say that yes, this is based on an episode from the DP anime, but I felt it fitted nicely. This is also a chapter I'm sure no-one saw coming, or at least not right now. I felt like this was the best way to handle the Pokémon in question, whose kinda been the Bonsly of this arc (there for most of it with a strong premise but without much actual interaction until a chapter near the end of the region), huh, guess I've got a habit. This will also further explore Brock's character and his eventual goal. We also get a continuation from the end of last chapter, it was fade to black but we'll see how Ash handles such a big... development, or how Serena responds. I've tried to keep it vague, but this does come with NSFW territory. As for the characters of the day in this chapter, they're from the episode by the same name but I've changed them to fit the purpose I'd need for this story. Hence why it's in Hoenn and not Sinnoh like the actual episode (speaking off, why use Electrike/Manectric & not a Luxio/Luxray. It seems like one of those weird anime episodes). I am still open to nickname suggestions for Ralts. Not much else to say, just remember to vote in the poll and with that, let's begin...

Chapter Eighty-Five: The Electrike Company

She stirred in bed and extended her arms up. Turning her head to the side, she noticed Ash with his back to her. Frowning, she sighed and crossed her arms under her head. The memories from the night before flooded back into her head.

After retiring to their room, she tried to initiate a little intimate moment between them but Ash... he acted weird. Locking himself in the bathroom, she waited but he didn't come back out. She couldn't be sure when but she ended up succumbing to the tiredness. It seems even when he did come out, he didn't try to cuddle with her. Closing her eyes, she embraced the aching feeling on her heart. He has a history of distancing himself, usually when dealing with something inside like after the lake of rage or the body swap incident but that doesn't make helping any easier. What could've brought it on all of a sudden?

His Glalie evolved and they seemed to be making real progress on that regard. Sure, Drake's situation has been getting to him, but he's been pretty open on his thoughts and feelings regarding it. Sometimes she wished she had his aura abilities because being a natural empath would help in sensing others feelings and also help in offering advice. Shaking her head, she realised the only way she'll get the answers is from the boy himself.

Shuffling closer, she pressed up against his back and ekansed her arm around his chest. Smiling at the developing muscles, she shook her head. Now's not the time for such thoughts. She moved so her mouth was right next to his ear.

"Babe, it's time to wake up," she whispered. "We'll miss breakfast."

"Huh?" he groaned, stirring around. Rolling onto his back, she pushed herself up to be looking down as his eyes flickered open. "What're we having?"

"Hehehe, I knew the mention of food would get you up," she giggled. Leaning down, she lightly pressed her lips to his. Letting the good morning speak for itself, she pulled back and lay herself down. "You know... we didn't get to finish last night... maybe we should work up that appetite first?"

"I erm..." He visibly swallowed as a cool sweat formed on his forehead. "The others. We don't want to keep them waiting."

"It's still early," she replied, "the others probably aren't even up yet."

Frowning at his response, she watched his head turn away with a downward gaze between his fluttering eyes. A light shade of red coloured his cheeks. Her hand felt his muscles tense up. His jaw seemed to retreat close to his body as his teeth gritted within his tightly sealed lips.

"Okay, enough." She used her hand to turn his head, forcing eye contact. "What's wrong?"

"N-nothing."

Not liking his denial, she used a light wave of ESP to force him in a straight down position. Swinging one leg over, she straddled and looked straight down into his eyes. Each darted around as he tried to find some way to escape but she wasn't about to let him suffer in silence.

"I'm not going to go through this again," she explained, "every time somethings wrong, you pull away. Let me help you."

"I erm..." His cheeks flushed a brighter red as his hips twisted beneath her.

Pinching her own lips together, she tilted her head to the side. Her brows pulled together, narrowing her gaze on her boyfriend. Her lips fell into a sort of frown as she bite down on her inner cheek. Studying his face, she quickly realised it was guilt she was seeing... but embarrassment.

"P-please," he stuttered with bated breath. "Can you get off me?"

Knowing she wouldn't like being pinned down without consent, she climbed off and almost instantly he shot up. Sitting on the edge of the bed, his hand covered his face as his breathing attempted to return. She kneeled behind and just watched with a frown.

"Ash-"

"I'm sorry, Serena." He sighed. "I don't know what to tell you."

"I'm sorry too," she replied, placing a hand on his shoulder. "I just want to help you. Can you please let me in?"

"I-I can't," he replied, "I'm not entirely sure what it is myself. Can we just drop it? Please."

"How about a... compromise?" she asked.

"Like?" he asked.

"We leave it for now," she replied, "but I'll still check in... and then when you understand. Share it with me. I might still be able to help."

"...deal." He stood up and grabbed his pile of clean clothes, Walking into the bathroom.

She heard the tap run let out a low sigh. It certainly could've gone better and maybe pinning him down with ESP wasn't exactly the best idea. Part of her tried to think of what could've worked him up so much but to no-avail. Previous times at least had some context to explain his behaviour but right now-

Shaking her head, she jumped out of bed and proceeded to change into her own attire. Sending him a quick mental note to stop him walking in, she briefly considered searching his thoughts but dismissed the idea just as quickly. He claimed to not understand it just as much so she'd just get a bunch of mixed-up thoughts which wouldn't help and probably lead to more misunderstandings.

As she finished changing, she sent him a message to let him know. Standing in front of the mirror, she took in her appearance. She wasn't always a big fan of checking herself out but she couldn't deny that over the course of Hoenn she seemed to grow more in a mature way.

The door opened and she turned to see the raven-haired boy walk out. Grabbing all their things, they locked up and left the room. Passing by the front desk on the way to the reception, they handed in the room keys. Meeting their friends in the cafeteria, they shared a mostly silent breakfast. The only conversation came from Brock, explaining the place that he'd be visiting today instead of returning home.

Going outside to set off, Ash made a quick lab call to switch around some of his high fliers. Joining them outside, he had Pidgeot, Charizard and Metang out as May climbed onto the back of her own large flying type. A quick discussion led Max to climb onto the fully evolved normal flying type and she joined him.

"But why is Ash riding on Metang?" he asked. "He could've got Dragonite or Aerodactyl?"

"After seeing how Steven rode on top of his Metagross, he thought it looked really cool," she whispered in a teasing tone. Using a light flicker of ESP to accept the female fliers Pokéball, she levitated it into her backpack. Bidding them goodbye, the boys set off north as they took off to the west.

Feeling the wind rush past her face, she glanced down to see Max's wonder at the world beneath them. She couldn't deny that the wonders of flying on a large Pokémon really did give her a rush like nothing else, but her mind reverted back to the previous night and morning encounter.

"Penny for your thoughts." Pidgeot's voice echoed in her head.

"Huh?"

"I'm not as clueless as my trainer," she explained, "I could've sliced the tension between you with an air slash. So, what's up?"

"I don't want to cause issues between you and him," she dismissed. "It doesn't matter."

"If I thought it would cause an issue, I wouldn't ask," she replied, "and if it didn't matter then why the sour faces? Look, other than Pikachu. I've been his team member longer than any others. Pokémon are good at knowing their trainer, in some cases better then they know themselves."

"I..." She sighed. "I don't know. We were good. Returning from the grand festival after party we were getting reacquainted-"

"You were mating." Pidgeot bluntly intervened. "Why you humans choose to tip toe around such things is beyond me. You've been mates for years."

"N-no," she stuttered, feeling her cheeks burn. "We were just... kissing and cuddling. We weren't actually... doing that."

"So, you were mating... just not getting to the point which would give you the results mating is used for." Pidgeot clarified. "Is this the issue?"

"No!" She stated clearly. Taking a deep breath to calm herself down, she closed her eyes. "But that's when he distanced himself and I don't know why."

"Hmm... interesting." The female bird mused. "It could be..."

"You know what's going on with him?" she asked.

"I've got a theory." She clarified. "And no. I'm not gonna tell you what it is."

"Why not?" she asked.

"Because if I'm wrong then it'll cause one more of those issues you wanted to avoid," she explained, "I will say that its nothing to worry about. Just one of those things I know humans have a habit of doing which Pokémon don't see the need too."

Cutting off their mental connection, she slumped slightly. Part of her wanted to push the female bird but given their current position, angering the pilot wouldn't be the best move. Not that she'd believe Pidgeot would endanger either herself or Max but better be safe than sorry.

As her eyes peaked over the edge, seeing the world pass below her mind raced. What could be his issue? What brought it on?

Brock smiled as he felt the wind rush past his face. The land of Hoenn looked so different from up here, it's hard to believe the devastation that took effect down there. Casting a glance to the side, he noticed Ash staring off into space as he rode on the steel psychic type.

Turning to look at his own piolet, the corner of Charizard's eye caught his. Sharing a nod, they moved closer to the other pair.

"Ash?" He spoke up. "Wakie Wakie."

"Huh?"

"You kinda zoned out," he explained, "it's a dangerous thing to do up here."

"Eh, Metang wouldn't let me down." He shrugged, patting him on the head. "Would ya, bud."

He let out a seemingly happy chirp, lifting his arms up. Charizard let out a ruffled snort in response.

"So, what was you thinking about?" he asked, causing the boy to look down. "You're looking like your mum caught you with a hand in the cookie jar."

"I erm, I kinda did something." He uttered. "And Serena's gonna be really mad at me. I hate myself for it."

"I know you," he replied, "and you may do stupid stuff from time to time, but you always try to do your best. I doubt whatever you did is to the length that it'll cause Serena to be that mad. You know what they say, a problem shared is a problem halved."

"I erm..." He turned to the side. "Last night, Serena and I... well let's say we we're having alone time."

"I really don't need details about what that means," he interjected.

"Well... let's say we were kissing." He mumbled. "And I started to feel... weird. Like really weird. I've felt it before but never this strong."

"Ah, I think I see where this is going." He nodded, rubbing his chin. A smile spread over his face. "Looks like my little travelling bro is growing up."

"I couldn't handle it... and I locked myself in the bathroom." His hand covered his face. "By the time I... recovered. And left. She was already asleep. And we didn't really speak at all this morning. She's angry, I can just tell. And if she isn't then when she knows-"

"Slow down." He held his hand up. "Your taking this way too hard. Your growing up and it's a good thing."

"But I-"

"I know you won't believe this, but you probably did the best thing." He cut him off. "Giving into those urges is completely natural. Nothing to be ashamed off."

"Try telling Serena that." He sighed.

"I'm willing to bet she'll be more understanding then you're giving her credit for." He smirked. "Out of all the stuff you could've done. This is far from the worst."

"How could I have possibly made a worst decision?" he asked.

"You could've tried to relieve yourself with Serena's help." He shrugged. "Then I could completely see her being angry with you. The way I see it, if you tried to repress it then you'd end up hurting yourself. Imagine those urges like a fizzy drink. Shaking it about and the pressure builds until it bursts open."

"How do you I stop feeling so guilty then?" he asked.

"That one you'll need to figure out on your own," he replied, "but if I can suggest something. Serena isn't stupid. If I were you, I'd tell her your own way before she figures it out anyway. She'll notice somethings up and that sort of miscommunication is what leads to drama in those terrible soap opera shows."

Seeing the raven-haired boy gulp at the thought, he decided to just leave him be to mull over his options. He really isn't surprised he's coming to these sorts of scenarios. Given his age and having an ever-present girlfriend would only amplify. Having issues of his own repression, unable to explore the urges due to his home life at the time, it ended up leading to his overzealous behaviour with women. Which is lucky because he could've become much worse.

Seeing the grassy fields beneath them, a large open field with a glass building came into view. Figuring that must be their destination, he held on as the fire flying type took them in for a landing. Closing his eyes, he tried to ignore his stomach being frown upwards.

Climbing off the fully evolved fire-lizard, he noticed Metang lowering down in a much smoother landing. The raven-haired boy recalled both of them. Walking side by side, he took in a whiff of fresh field air. Several Pokémon were around but of rather unique species given the location. As they got close, he couldn't help but notice some differences. There was a Golduck with a wooden prosthetic leg, an Arcanine with a larger metal leg and even a Honchkrow with a fan-like tail wing segment, just to name a few. With the building getting closer, he noticed a young man slightly older then him walk closer.

"Hello there!" He greeted with a smile. Wearing a smart-casual light-purple polo and jeans with dirt-blonde hair. "Welcome to the Pokémon prosthetic surgery."

"Hello." He nodded. "I'm Brock."

"Hey, I'm Ash!" the raven-haired boy added.

"I'm Jaco, one of the facilities rehabilitation breeders," he explained, "how can I help you today."

"About a year ago, give or take I caught an Electrike and... well maybe it'll be best to just show you." He pulled out his Pokéball, letting the electric type out onto the grassy field. Kneeling down, he scooped the little guy up. "As you can see, he had an accident. The nurse Joy who originally treated him told us about this place so we were hoping to see what could be done."

"Elec!"

"We'll be certainly happy to help in any way we can." Jaco smiled. "Come on, I'll introduce you to our resident doctor. He can answer any questions."

"I'mma hang back here," Ash explained, "get some training in with the guys. Catch you guys later."

Following the boy through across the field, he continued to take in the sight of the different Pokémon. Each of them seemed to be getting on with regular activities whether swimming, running, or flying. Turning back to the resident breeder, he figured Ash didn't want to intrude on such a manner and he was quite thankful for that. It'll be hard enough discussing this without worrying his little traveling brother is keeping up.

"Do you have any questions other than the surgery?" Jaco asked. "I should be able to help with other matters."

"I... can I ask what the Pokémon in the field are doing?" He shrugged. "I mean, they've clearly already undergone the attachment."

"We don't just abandon our patients post-surgery. Part of my role, other than preparing patients for the operation is post-surgery recovery," he explained, "I ensure the Pokémon adjusts well to the prosthetic. Try to identify any issues which might arise and ensure the procedures are fulfilled correctly."

"Which is what they're doing out here?" he asked.

"I've personally created a workout programme for each of them," he explained, "Golduck needs to ensure his leg can handle water and strong currents. It's not something Arcanine particularly needs to worry about but it should move in sync with his other legs and sustain under the pressure of long runs. Not to mention it can end up being quite the adjustment to having that which was previously lost."

"I'm guessing the different models also match those differing needs?" He guessed.

"Right." He nodded. "The doctor who runs the facility specialises in amputated limbs and has designed a whole lot of different ones for different needs. It's not like with people where one model suits all except for height and such. Trust me, Brock, he's one of the best."

Leading him into the building. Stood at the front desk was an older gentlemen on the slightly shorter side. A bold top but hair covered the surrounding edges. Dressed in a smart blue blazer and matching under-suit. A warm smile rested on his face as he walked over to them.

"Doctor Cal, are you busy right now?" he asked.

"Not at all." He smiled. "I just scheduled Forrest's Heracross for tomorrow. How can I be of service?"

"This here is Brock and he's brought in his Electrike for assessment," he explained.

The man seemed friendly enough as he peered up to the electric type. Kneeling down so they were more eye level, he seemed to study his missing leg for a good while before stepping back. He locked eyes with the doctor and quirked his eyebrow up, trying for the slightest hints of his thoughts.

"Good news or bad?" he asked.

"Bad," he replied, "let's get it out of the way."

"Because he's unevolved, I can't operate right now," he explained, "when undergoing evolution, the biology changes and cells rearrange. It would be impossible for me to fit a prosthetic which fits both Electrike now and Manectric should he ever evolve. I've seen others try and the evolution caused the previous prosthetic to break into and re-aggravate the original injury. Possibly worst damage then the first time."

"I understand." He nodded, standing up.

"Now hold on, I did say there was good news," he replied, "the injury itself has been well kept and treated without any residual damage. Assuming he underwent a safe, normal evolution, there's no reason we couldn't fit a prosthetic after. And you're in luck because I've designed a new prosthetic which power through electrical energy. I've not had a Pokémon to test it with, but early models seem promising. We also offer free trials for subjects on new models."

"But we'd still need Electrike to evolve first," he uttered.

"That's what I'm here for." Jaco smiled. "If you agree then I can have a specialised training programme for him by the end of this week. And our facility is equipped with everything you'll need to help him achieve it."

"I erm. Thank you," he muttered, glancing down to the electric type in his arms. "Do you mind if I think this over, please?"

"Of course." Doctor Cal nodded. "We understand it's a big decision. Feel free to wonder around and we're both here in case you have more questions."

Nodding a thanks, he turned and walked out of the building. Taking in the fresh-field air, he continued out onto the green field. Casting a glance to the lightening Pokémon, he briefly considered going to find Ash but he's done a good enough job understanding his own team in the past and really this is down between himself and Electrike. He shouldn't drag someone else in when it's not needed.

Letting out a low sigh, he found an empty patch of grass. Slipping his backpack off his back, he carefully pulled out the picnic blanket packed on top. With some difficult thanks to the electric type in his arms, he spread it out onto the floor. Taking a seat under the warm Hoenn sun.

She saw the city come into view and she shared the precise location through their mental link. Holding on tight and supporting the young passenger, the wind rushed past as the experienced flier came down into a swift landing. As she slid off, helping Max down, she noticed Altaria in a slower decent. A slight ruckus drew her attention as she saw both of her friends parents walking out of their house. The young boy wasted no-time in running to hug them both.

"Serena?" Caroline greeted. "Where are the boys? They didn't get lost, did they?"

"No. Brock got some information about a medical facility which can help with Electrike," she explained, "so they went there first."

"I certainly hope they can help the little guy." Norman nodded. "Now why don't you all join us in the green house."

"Greenhouse?" May asked.

"We've set up a nice little bit to celebrate your top four placement in the grand festival honey." Caroline smiled. "And it'll be with all your team. Of course, they each deserve just as much for their part. Your father's even implemented a pool for Huntail to enjoy."

Following them around the side of the house, she watched Ash's large bird take off to perch herself on top of the greenhouse with Norman's Swellow. Hanging back at the entrance, she smiled as both of her friends let out and embrace their entire teams. Even a lot of their father's Pokémon joined in with a nice buffet of food laid out in front of them. Not wanting them to miss out, she pulled out her own Pokéballs, releasing her team of seven.

Milotic slivered over to join the fellow water serpent with Dustox taking off to explore the wooded area. Both of her duel psychic types walked off to mingle with some of the other Pokémon. Froslass and Shelgon also took off but knowing the dragon, she'll like start battling. Leaving just Zangoose beside her.

She caught the eyeline of her normal type. Without even connecting their heads, she could feel the fatherly Pokémon asking an unspoken question. "How-"

"Did I know something was wrong?" he asked. "Call it fathers intuition. You might not be my daughter but- never mind that's me being silly."

She smiled, having guessed what he was getting at. He might've joined her originally as a way to keep close to his daughter but over their journey, he's become a sort of father figure for herself. It really started when she talked to him about her own parental figure... needless to say, he wasn't happy.

"I don't need to be a psychic type to see somethings on your mind." He continued. "I might've missed my chance to guide Seviper, but I could help you."

"It's Ash..." She winced seeing his eye twitch.

"You know, " he uttered. "Every fathers worst nightmare is when their little girl brings a boy home for the first time."

"I-it's not-" She took a deep breath. "He's... been distancing himself. He does this when somethings bothering him. I just don't know what."

"I figured it wouldn't be anything like my implication. I know you've known him far longer than you have myself," he replied, "and like I said, I'm no mind reader. I could offer to... question him-" He raised his claws up, clipping them together for emphasis. A cheesy grin spread over his face.

"No!" She gasped at the gesture but quickly settled at his teasing laugh.

"Heh, I figured." He smirked before taking on a more neutral expression. "I will say, there's a lot of stuff to feel guilt over. Jumping to conclusions will only lead to more complications. Taking from an old fool whose had too many complications in life, you don't want to make any when not needed."

"Thanks." She offered a small smile.

Reaching into her pocket, she pulled out a loose piece of paper and pen, writing down a small note. Handing it to Zangoose, she let him know what it said and told him to show it to the others if they question her disappearance. Giving it a quick glance, he nodded, and she turned, taking her leave.

It didn't take her long to cross the city and make her way into the Pokémon centre. It wasn't too busy but she didn't pay the random people any mind, making her way to the video-phone lab. Taking one of the desktops in the corner, she dialled in the number in mind and waited.

"Hey mum!" She smiled at the brown-haired women on the screen.

"This is a surprise." she mused with a light smile of her own. "To what do I owe this?"

"Can't I just call you without a reason?" she asked.

"Of course," she replied, "but you don't. You really should call home more often. As it stands you only really do so if you've got something coming up like a showcase or if your upset about something... or when you've ended up doing something dangerous and don't want me to know."

She mareepishly scratched her cheek at the little jab from her mum. The last time she might've called was when they landed on Pacifidlog after the day of disasters. She couldn't even bring herself to call after losing the Sootopolis showcase.

"Sorry mum." She uttered.

"It's fine, dear, I know it's difficult to keep up whilst on the roads. It's why I speak to the professor and Delia." She smiled. "By sharing our information, each of us keep sharing what we know so we're all on the same page. And I know your better at calling home then that boyfriend of yours."

"Yeah..." she chuckled nervously. Remembering the numerous times, she's reminded him to call home.

"I am glad you called though." Her mother continued. "I do have something to talk with you about. I'm not going to beat around the bush. Serena, I've decided to move back to Kalos. I actually fly back in three weeks."

"Mum?" she asked, feeling the world disappear around her.

"I know this might seem out of the blue dear, but I've been thinking of this for a while," she replied, "ever since you told me about that little adventure you had before the silver conference. Where you met your father."

Her eyes widened at the declaration from her mother. A numbing tingle spread over her body as she stared at the screen. Seeing her reflection slightly in the screen, she saw the colour mostly drained as her eyes darted around. While Grace sat with the same, neutral expression.

"We originally moved to Kanto to escape him but that hardly seems needed now." She explained. "I had wanted to tell you face to face but due to the events in Hoenn and everything being delayed, it threw those plans off."

"B-but how?" she gasped. "Why?"

"I know this must be a shock but please try to understand," she replied, "I know you'll wish to continue your adventure, and this shouldn't be a reason for you to stop. We've still got family who live in Kalos, and it's been years since we visited in person. Only Calem who came to visit us instead."

"You could just have a holiday to visit then-" Her voice cracked, barely above a whisper. Tears stung her eyes.

"I've also been offered a job." She continued. "My old racing coach has a riding school in the fields of Coumarine city. When he learnt I'd be returning, he jumped at the chance and created the offer of a racing coach. I know this is a big shock but once the Hoenn league is over... I would like you to join me before you set off wherever your next adventure lays."

Unable to hear any more, she reached and hung up the call. Shooting up from the seat, she nearly stumbled in the quick succession. Releasing a weak ESP pulse to keep herself steady, she bolted out of the room and through the centre. Tears stung her eyes, blurring her little vision.

How could her mother do this? She didn't even discuss it with her?! Kanto has been their home for years! She can't even remember what life in Kalos was like!

He smiled as he set the pure electric type down. With wobbling legs, he stepped forward. While they've made great progress in his mobility during the Hoenn journey, he couldn't deny he's been very reluctant to push him beyond that stage. He's never really had a Pokémon with a disability and while Nurse Joy taught him the basics of care for the little guy, he was just as clueless about progressing as they day they met.

Heh, he's meant to be both a breeder and gym leader. How could he fool himself into thinking he could expand out into the medical field if he couldn't help here? His eyes caught sight of some light spark fizzing off his green-fur as he hopped around to face him.

"What do you make of what the doctor and Jaco said?" he asked.

"Elec!" He barked with a wide smile. Jumping to the side, his body weight went a little too hard and caused his back to stumble over. Jumping from his seat he went to pick him up, but the lightening Pokémon shook his body as he struggled back up. "Electrike!"

"You wanna go through with it?" he asked. "It won't be easy, you know? We'll need to evolve you and even with the right diet and training programme, that could take weeks, months. All of which-"

"Electrike!"

He stopped in his tracks and stared down to his unevolved Pokémon. His bottom lip trembled as he stared into the beady black eyes. Bolts of electricity seemed to flicker within them as he locked his own gaze. Leaping forward, he made several sharp biting motions with more barks to emphasis.

"Electrike misses the use of his leg." He turned to see Ash walking over. "He says if he can get it back or close enough then he wants to do it."

"What're you doing here?" he asked.

"After our conversation on the flight over, I couldn't really think of much else," he replied, "so when we saw you leave, I figured I'd come over to talk with you and see what's going on. Electrike just happened to be pretty vocal about his thoughts."

"Thanks." He smiled before his head fell. He started packing up the blanket, picking up his electric type once again.

"I don't get what your concerned about?" he asked. "If Electrike wants it then it should be a no-brainer. If the surgery costs too much, then I'd be more than happy to lend you some. I've still got the prize money from the Orange league and Silver conference."

"I couldn't ask you to do that," he replied. The two of them started to walk back over the field.

"You didn't ask and it's not doing much right now." He placed a hand on his shoulder. "I'd rather it go to a good cause. Otherwise, it's just being used on supplies in our travels or on dates and stuff for Serena. I'm sure she'd understand if-"

"Thank you but it's not that." He sighed. "I'm... it's complicated."

"More complicated then what I said on the way over?" he asked. "You know, I heard somewhere a problem shared is a problem halved."

His lips flicked up into a smile at his own words being used back on himself. "Its... I'm not use to this. I'm meant to be the one who supports you guys."

"Everyone needs help sometimes," he replied, "you taught me that, remember. It's time you took your own advice."

"I've found the best way to solve my problems is to help someone else with there's." He countered.

"And now you can't?" he asked. "Let me guess, you've been with Electrike all this time... and while his leg is in a good shape, he hasn't really recovered?"

"How did you know that?" he asked.

"Because it's similar to how I felt with Sandslash, remember." He smirked. "And you told me back then that I couldn't just make it all work by myself. I was there to support him, but we only got answers when we met Lance. You said that just because I didn't know anything, doesn't make me anything less. I don't think I could've helped Snorunt evolve if not for your advice. Don't think your anything less just because you don't know the answers yet."

"So, what should I do?" he asked.

"What you always do." He smiled. "I trust your judgement complete and fully. And I know Serena, May and Max would say the same. Whatever decision you make about Electrike, I'm sure it'll be the right one."

Feeling his lips tremble, he looked around to see they had walked back over to the training ground with Ash's team. Taking in the sight of them all together brought a small smile to his lips. An energetic bark from his lightening Pokémon caused him to look down. Making several biting motions, he seemed to really get in with the electric type. Swallowing hard, he felt a lump form in his throat as he lightly stroked the green-furred Pokémon.

A flame of aura erupted around Ash and his little brother seemed to stop in his tracks. Prominent lines formed between his eyebrows as his gaze turned downward. His lips pinched and stiffened as his hands tightened, turning the knuckles white.

"Ash?" he asked. "Ash! What's wrong?"

"It's Serena," he muttered in a strained voice, looking up as the blue power faded. "She's... upset? Angry? Scared... Whatever it is, she's having a massive emotional shift."

"You should go and speak with her," he replied.

"But what about Electrike's training and-" He held a hand up to cut the boy off.

"I'll stay here, Ash," he explained, "but your needed back in Petalburg. Go on."

"Are you sure?" he asked.

"If I'm serious about letting them help Electrike then we'd need to split up eventually," he explained, "I'll be sure to join you for the league in two months and I'll stay in touch, but I'm needed here. Jaco can help Electrike, and I can't leave his side.

"I guess..." he muttered, "this is goodbye."

"More like until next time." He offered a smile and held his free hand out. Accepting the open gesture, they tightened the hand shake and pulled each other closer. If he wasn't holding the lightening Pokémon he would've given him a hug. "Will you tell the others I said bye?"

"No... I'll tell them what you said to me." He smiled. "That we'll see you again. You sure you'll be alright?"

"Of course," he chuckled, letting go of the handshake. "And besides, I bet I could learn a lot from Jaco and Cal here. We'll be just fine."

"If you need anything. Even just a lift though, just give us a call." He smiled turning to recall all but Charizard. "I'll fly over in a heartbeat."

"Thanks Ash." He smiled, memories of their adventures up to this point running in his head. With a mighty roar, they kicked off into the mid-day sky.

As the raven-haired boy disappeared in the sky, he sighed and turned to look at the lightening Pokémon in his arms. A smile flicked up on his lips, the electric type jerked up and playfully licked his cheek. "Alright bud." He set off back across the field towards the building. It didn't take him long to walk back inside.

"Brock?" Jaco walked over to greet him, having been sat behind the reception desk. "Doctor Cal is currently in a consultation with another patient so if you'd like to speak with him I'm afraid it'll need to wait."

"N-no, that's alright. No need to bother him," he reassured. "I erm, I mean Electrike. He's made his mind up and we'd like to take you up on the offer.

"Great!" He smiled. "If you'd like to follow me, we can get started."

"Already?" he asked.

"My schedule is free for the next few hours. Just general check up on the in-house patients so why wait?" he asked. "Now I've been braining storming ideas already and the two main features Electrike as a species focus on are speed and electrical charge."

"Well he can't exactly run successful quick attacks," he replied, following him down one of the corridors.

"No, of course not." Jaco smiled. "But that just means we look at what he can do. Starting with the easier of the two, I'd like to test his current electrical output. This will give us an idea of where we're starting and what we can improve into. Then mobility will come later."

Biting down on his inner cheek, he couldn't help but feel guilt add on with every word the rehabilitation breeder spoke. He might've learnt a lot of niche medical practises on his journey, but it pales in comparison to an official medical education.

Truth is, he couldn't afford to go and that's why he's been fine learning on the road. Every penny he earnt running the gym went to raising his brothers and sisters. He couldn't ask his father to pay for it either. All his siblings still need to be cared for and what kind of big brother would take money out of their mouths for his own goals? If he wants to truly get an official education, then it's clear what he'll need to do.

End his journey and get a job. Save up for medical school on his own. Question is... is he ready to start that step in his life?

Sitting on the cliff of the city which overlooked the beach, she collapsed down onto the floor. The flood-gate broke, and tears just rushed down her cheeks, her mother's words echoing in her head. She couldn't even compose herself as a loud roar bolstered around, followed by a heavy thud.

The familiar presence of her boyfriend couldn't quell her sobs as he embraced her. Planting her face into his chest, he whispered words of comfort as she nuzzled into his chest. He seemed to give Charizard some instruction to join Pidgeot and a light gust signalled he took off to find the fellow flying type. She continued to just accept the comforting embrace as the minutes passed. Soon her eyes dried up, leaving her leaning into his embrace.

Slowly pulling her face out of his hoodie, she glanced up to his face. His wide eyes locked onto her's, filled with compassion as he took a proper seat on the ground. Pulling her onto his lap, she instinctively wrapped her arms around and buried her head in the crook of his neck.

"How did you-"

"Remember when I told you about the aura bond?" he asked. "I sensed the mood shift. As soon as I did... we raced over."

"I didn't know you could do that," she uttered.

"It's not something I knew until just now," he replied, "I knew my dad could do it. He always seemed to know how me, and Drake were. I guess none of you who I've bonded with really had a drastic change. The closest would be the disaster day but it was already high tension all around."

She grimaced slightly at the reminder of the day. Ever since that day, things just seemed to stack on top of her. It directly led to her loss in the final showcase and now her mother is uprooting their home and Ash is distancing himself as well. She winced and nuzzled deeper into her boyfriend.

"I'm gonna guess you're not up to sharing what caused this," he whispered. Swallowing hard, he let out a low sigh. "I erm. I actually have something I need to tell y-you. It's about this morning... and last night."

Her interest peaked and she pulled back from his embrace. With her head rested on his shoulder, she noticed his cheeks burning bright red. Eyes refused to meet hers. Understanding he was having just as much difficulty with it, she reached and grabbed his hand, giving a comforting squeeze.

"Y-you see..." His lips attempted to counter his dried lips. "Last night... when we were... you know. I started to feel... more. Like I've felt it before but never this strong. If we kept going... I think I might've-" He shook his head. "I didn't want to risk it so I locked myself away... and dealt with it myself."

Her bottom lip dropped slightly from the explanation. Even with the gaps in detail, she easily pieced together what he meant. As his story came to an end, she stared up to him for a few seconds. Feeling a smile flicker on her lips, she leaned up and pecked his cheek, cupping the opposite one in her hand.

"Is that it?" she asked, a light under-chuckle which she tried not to show.

"Y-yeah," he stuttered.

"Ash... you've got nothing to worry about," she whispered.

"B-but don't you think I'm a-"

"Whatever your about to say, I'll let you into a secret. I'd be exactly the same." Seeing his eyes widen caused an intense heat to fill her cheeks. She shook her head and swallowed. "I'd be exactly the same because I've dealt with similar urges... and dealt in similar ways... guess I was just better at hiding it."

"You-" She didn't let him finish the sentiment and guided his lips into hers. Feeling him pushed back did cause her to relax slightly.

As his lips matched hers, this wasn't the normal quick show off affection or their more intimate heated moment. Peaking her eye open, she saw the blue aura swirling around them. Knowing what was going to happen, she smiled within the kiss and looped her arms around his neck. Deepening the kiss, she felt a wave of love wash over her as their two emotions mixed together. Overwhelming her with the massive rush, she only lasted about ten more seconds.

"Whoa," she whispered, slowly pulling back from the show. While part of her wished he could do that every time they kissed, she also didn't want it to lose the magical sensation. Shuffling on his lap, she rested into him in a more comfortable position.

"So-" Ash's voice cracked slightly. "You erm. You ready to talk about what caused your crying earlier?"

She gave a small nod. "I... I called home. I just wanted to talk with mum. It's been a while since I last did."

"I should probably do the same," he muttered, causing her to smile. His hand lightly rubbing her arm.

"Well... when I called, I found her packing stuff up." She continued. "She's moving back to Kalos. She's-"

Feeling her tears escape once more, she leaned into her boyfriend once more. He whispered words of comfort and lightly rubbed her arms.

"I know this is a pretty big deal..." He whispered. "But maybe you should look at it from her perspective. You might've taken Kanto as a new home, but Grace left her old life behind. Given the chance to reunite with you if we had to separate, I know I'd jump at the chance. Which is why I won't let this separate us."

"How come you always see the best in others?" she muttered.

"Guess I've had a good influence from you." He pulled her into a tighter hug, letting her head bury in his chest. "But seriously, we've been travelling to far of regions from Kanto so there's no reason that it can't continue. You shouldn't let your feelings over this ruin your relationship with your mum though."

She nodded and let herself relax slightly. In hindsight, she might've overreacted to her mother's news. The combined stress of everything just got the better of her. Letting the soft scent calm her, she closed her eyes. Replaying the life in Pallet. She honestly can't remember a time before it even if she knows faces from the far-off land. Losing track of time, she soon reached a level of content and pulled out of his embrace.

"Where do you want to go?" he asked.

"To make a call," she replied, standing up with him following shortly behind. As they walked off towards the centre, she felt his hand instinctively intertwined with hers.

"You calling home?" he asked.

She lightly shook her head. "Your right... but I can't face her yet. If I did then I might just get worked up again."

"So, who are you going to call?" he asked.

Flashing him a smile, she refused to answer and just continued down the street of the suburb-city. Stopping by the Maple house, they ensured all was well with them and Serena even collected her team since the party was in clean up mode. It didn't take them long to reach the familiar red-roofed building. Walking through, she soon found herself sat in front of the same videophone. Dialling in the number, she was slightly surprised to not receive the answer she wanted. With her friend away from home, she redialled for the lab. Just as Rose suggested, the one to answer was none-other than Leaf.

"Hey guys!" She beamed. "Long time no speak! You'll never guess what!"

"Hey!" She smiled at the bubbly girls excitement, a light chuckle escaping her lips. "And what?!"

"My books read!" She pushed a copy in front of 'Gotta catch 'Em All' with the map of both Kanto and Johto on the cover. With Professor Oak's logo in the top corner, the bottom line read, 'a complete guide to completing two regions Pokédex's'. "Well... almost ready. This is the first and currently only produced copy! The professor contacted one of the publishers for the labs journals! They're launching it at the Indigo league next month!"

"That's great Leaf!" Ash beamed. "We'll be sure to pick up a copy."

"And launching at the league will be great!" she added, "I bet a ton of aspiring trainers will want it for their own journey!"

"You know, I can't find him anywhere in here." Gengar popped in front of Leaf, phasing the book into her own hands. Flicking through, she held it upside down as if trying to make something drop out. "Where is he?"

"Gengar?" she sighed, covering her face. "I'm gonna regret asking but who?"

"Wally," she replied, "duh."

"It's... not a Where's Wally book," Ash uttered.

"How do you know?" she asked, "did you find him?"

"Hey!" Leaf burst through the purple ghost, taking her book back. "What're you doing with that?"

"I need some sort of gag to enter into the chapter," she shrugged, "but since I'm here, might as well show the two ditto's in a day care these-"

She produced a collection of three Pokéballs, two of which were members of Serena's team with the other one being Ash's. After a quick discussion, they made the decision and rotated their teams fully. However, instead of sticking to their Hoenn line up, both went from their entire collection.

Bidding their friend goodbye, the conversation came to an end, and they walked out to the centre's battlefield to get reacquainted. She watched in awe as a large Feraligatr emerged from Ash's fast ball. Her boyfriend gave him a quick scan but the goofy grin and happy dance made him undeniably the same water starter. Releasing the rest of his selection, Primeape, Alakazam, Sandslash, Houndoom and Togetic all appeared in a row.

With the cute little flying fairy zooming in for a hug.

Smiling at the interaction, she turned and levitated her own selection of Pokéballs. Delphox, Dewgong, Jigglypuff, Ampharos, Quilava and Froslass all emerged in a row. Part of her wondered why Gengar emphasised the middle-staged fire type since she hadn't undergone evolution like Feraligatr had. Shaking her head, she took out the final device and let out-

"Sirfetch'd!" the newly evolved Pokémon declared.

"Huh?" She blinked, mindlessly pulling out her Pokédex to scan the brand-new Pokémon.

"I guess Gengar's been busy," Ash uttered as she put the device down. "I didn't even know Farfetch'd could evolve."

"But why did she insist on sending over Quilava as well?" she asked, still not fully registering the turn of events.

"If we could understand her reasoning for anything then we'd be crazy." He shrugged. "But I say we see what these guys can do! What do you say to a one on one between Feraligatr and Sirfetch'd?"

"Sounds good!" She smirked. "And how about we make things interesting?"

"I'm listening." He returned with his own smirk.

"Loser gives the winner a massage tonight," she whispered so their Pokémon wouldn't hear. Pecking his cheek, she giggled at his red cheeks.

Seeing the two Pokémon react brought a smile to her face. The rest of their teams lined down the side of the field as the newly evolved combatants took up a spot either side of the centre circle. Watching her boyfriend walk into the trainer's box behind the water type, she followed suit into the one behind Sirfetch'd.
