Petunia was convinced that Tony Stark had come to her house with two objectives. One was to force them into relinquishing guardianship of their nephew and two was to destroy their reputation. All he had to do was bring that blasted lawyer with him and the neighbors would undoubtedly talk. Petunia could only hope they thought Tony Stark showing up in that fancy car with a fancy lawyer was a good thing but it was highly unlikely.
She was still reeling from the whole encounter. Apparently May Parker had not been lying when she mentioned knowing Tony Stark, and apparently the two were close. She was fixing her family tea in the kitchen and trying to calm her nerves but the repercussions of the day kept playing in her head. What if Vernon lost his job?
How could that Parker woman just set Tony Stark on them when she didn't even know the full story? Petunia poured herself some tea and then focused on pouring tea for the others.
"Don't worry about it, Petunia, dear. I'm sure it will all blow over and at the very least, the boy is out of our hair." Vernon made an attempt to cheer her as he took a cup of tea. His hand shook as he brought to his mouth signifying just how shaken he'd been by the whole thing.
How would those people take it if they learned she'd just signed over guardianship of the boy. It's not like they'd had a choice. It was either that or Tony Stark would sue them for every penny they had and any attempt to explain their reasoning was brushed off with a rude comment or threat.
That's right, she would insist they didn't have a choice. There was nothing they could do, surely if They came looking for the boy they'd understand that. They had to.
oooOOOooo
Severus didn't want to find himself at Private Drive but curiosity was a cruel mistress and he was unable to resist the desperate need to investigate the muggle woman's claims. She seemed convinced that Harry Potter was mistreated and starved. Twelve pounds under the lowest weight percentile of his age group, she'd said.
He'd taken a good look at the boy and noted how thin he'd seemed to be. Maybe it had been the robes in class or the fact he was usually in clothes several sizes too big that he hadn't notice or maybe he just hadn't cared to before.
Ignoring that though, if what the muggle man had said about forcing Harry's family to sign papers was true then it created a huge problem. Lily's blood wards would fail and Harry would be in danger. Severus had promised to keep the boy safe and seemed as though that promise got harder and harder to keep with each passing year.
He found himself outside the muggle residence and used the door knocker. It'd been years since he'd seen Petunia Evans and he found himself wondering just how much the vile woman had changed or if she'd changed at all.
He felt a sense of pleasure the moment that she opened to the door to find him on her doorstep.
"You!" She hissed angrily. "What are you doing here?"
"What's the matter Petunia, not pleased to see me?" He taunted.
"You can't be here, my sister-in-law doesn't know anything about your lot. I'd like to keep it that way." She hissed.
"Oh yes, I can see you haven't changed at all. Just as bitter as ever." Severus said coldly, although he didn't make any move to step inside. "I was given some rather disturbing news this evening. About your nephew." He watched as her face paled and she quickly looked around the neighborhood to see if anyone was watching.
"We didn't have a choice. Vernon's cousin sent Tony Stark after us after she took the boy with her. He threatened us with a-"
"-With a lawsuit. Yes, I heard as much earlier when I ran into Harry and Stark at the Leaky Caldron along with his new guardian. A Ms May Parker, I believe." Severus cut in, fixing her with a look. Petunia winced. "She seemed to think you hadn't been feeding the boy."
"He's a nasty little boy, we frequently have to send him to bed with no dinner." Petunia argued and Severus suddenly felt ill to his stomach. From the look of him, he had a feeling Potter was sent through the week with no dinner. The Parker woman was right.
"Believe me, I take no pleasure in advocating for the boy but I don't believe Lily, your sister would appreciate your treatment of her only son." He pointed out. Petunia drew back at the sound of her sister's name.
"We took him in. No where in there did it say we had to be nice to him. We hoped if we kept him downtrodden he might turn out normal." She defended herself. If Lily were here now she'd have been furious. Perhaps it would be better to leave Potter with the other Muggle woman. She had seemed quite determined to protect him. Maybe it would give the boy some kind of sense of self worth and he wouldn't go looking for danger at the first opportunity.
"No, I suppose there was no such stipulation, though perhaps there should have been. Or maybe you should have just assumed there was. Maybe then you wouldn't have found yourself facing a potential lawsuit." Severus stated, his tone was much colder than usual. "Well, Petunia, it was wonderful catching up. I'll give Dumbledore your regards." He smirked and then turned on his heel and left. He heard her close the door and once the coast was clear, he disapperated.

Harry would have liked to have more time to sleep up no sooner had he laid his head down was he being shaken awake by May. It beat the sharp wrapping on his door that he was used to. Her voice was kind, and gentle.
"Harry, you need to wake up now." She told him. He grunted in response to let her know he was awake and she moved away.
"Let's go, let's go!" He heard Tony's voice, his was a little more urgent than May's had been. "You can sleep on the Jet." That's right-Harry suddenly remembered. He was meant to be going to New York today. He pushed himself up to sit on the bed and let out a massive yawn.
"Morning." He managed, glancing around and watching the two adults move about the room, gathering up things.
"Yeah, Morning." Tony greeted flippantly.
"Good morning, sweetheart." May moved over to him, shoving a bowl of fruit salad in his hand. How early did these two wake up? He considered asking but instead turned his attention to the bowl he'd been given. He wondered if he'd ever get used to someone other than Mrs Weasley intent on feeding him.
He ate his breakfast quickly, changed into new clothes he'd gotten yesterday. He went downstairs to grab an apple and say goodbye to Tom and soon enough the three of them were packed into Tony's rental car and on their way to pick up Harry's travel documents. Which were apparently being held at Downing Street, of all places.
"Did you talk to Peter yesterday? I didn't hear anything from him." May stated, checking her phone's log. Harry looked up from his place in the back.
"Yeah, he called while we were at the gas station." Tony admitted. "Actually, Ned called and said Pete was a bit sniffly." Harry could see May tense, the temperature in the car suddenly dropping.
"And you didn't tell me my kid was sick?" She demanded.
"Put the claws away, I didn't want you to stress out so I had Happy pick him up and take him to the compound so Fri can monitor him for a fever. Which, I assume he's keeping down by sheer willpower alone." Tony attempted to calm her before she could get too angry.
"So he doesn't have a fever?" She asked. Tony nodded.
"The second he crosses that line, Friday's set to tell me and he gets to spend the day in Medbay with Pepper or Happy or Maybe even Rhodey if he's around. He'll love it."
"You'll tell me if he gets a fever?" May asked although it didn't sound much like a question.
"That was always the plan." Tony assured her. "Peter asked me not to tell you unless he had a fever."
"Oh did he?" May asked, a strange edge in her voice. Tony reached over and grabbed her phone from her while still somehow managing to keep his attention on the road.
"Don't call him now-it's three in the morning for him. Let the kid sleep and then do your angry Aunt thing." He insisted. May snatched her phone back but stored it in her purse.
"Fine. But you should know better than to go along with his antics." She said fiercely.
"I do!" Tony insisted. "Why do you think I made him go to the compound? I remember you telling me about his fevers. I was not about to let him ignore it."
"Is-er… does Peter get sick a lot?" Harry chanced asking. May looked back at him and then at Tony.
"That's.. Complicated. The short answer is no." Tony stated. "But from what I understand, he used to."
"I think the lowest fever he's ever had was 104." May admitted, shaking her head a little. "He kept us on our toes with his Asthma, it felt like he had pneumonia or bronchitis at least once every two months." She seemed stressed just thinking about it.
"That kid doesn't ever do anything half-assed, that's for sure." Tony stated. "Anyways, it's been a- what a year and half since his last fever? It seems to have resolved itself."
"I sure hope so." May said worriedly. Harry glanced at them both, wondering what had changed that ended that streak or if it was simply because Peter had gotten older. He also realized then how lucky he was that he didn't get sick much because while Aunt Petunia was willing to do anything to make Dudley feel better, she would not have cared that Harry was sick and probably would have silently hoped that the fever would do him in.
"Anyways, on a much happier note, you'll get to meet him later." Tony pointed out. "I don't know if I should apologize or not about that."
"Tony." May hissed in her nephew's defense. "Peter's a good kid." she said firmly.
"Oh, I'm not denying that." Tony waved her off. "But he's also the most accident prone kid I've ever met." May didn't have anything to say in defense of that and just kept quiet before glancing out the window.
"You should meet one of the other boys in my dorm-Neville. Or Seamus, he's particularly gifted at accidentally blowing stuff up." Harry told them and paused, suddenly concerned they might not appreciate him talking about school. They seemed intrigued and interested yesterday but maybe they wouldn't want to hear about his classmates.
"Yeah, so's Peter. He nearly blew up half my lab a couple of weeks ago and managed to create a super-villain in the process."
"Super-villain?" Harry frowned as May groaned at the memory.
"Yup. He called himself Swarm which only made things worse because Peter kept laughing at him and cracking jokes. Long story short, he's not allowed in the lab without supervision anymore."
"Oh." Harry said, still unsure about the whole 'super-villain' thing. Did they mean like in some of the comic books he'd sometimes read back in primary school? He never took them home of course, but one of his teachers had had quite a collection for the students to read when they weren't working on school work. He'd always thought those were fiction.
"Harry, have you ever heard of the Avengers?" May asked gently. Harry thought about it. It rang a bell somewhere in his head-maybe he'd heard about them in primary school? The Wizarding World, he'd noticed, didn't tend to know much about the Muggle world so he doubted if there would have been any news about them from their side. He shook his head.
"That's a first." Tony stated, sounding somewhat in disbelief. "I'm part of the Avengers. We're a team of superheroes that defend the earth. Or we were. We sorta broke up last summer."
"Why?" Harry found himself asking before he could even fully process the implication that he was in a car with an actual superhero.
"It's… not something I like talking about but I had a falling out with one of them and it led to a big mess. You sure you've never heard of us? Wormhole over New York, Sokovia? None of that ringing a bell?"
Harry paused to think about it, it was ringing a bell but he couldn't quite place it.
"Er… I wouldn't say it's not-I just can't remember off the top of my head. But Uncle Vernon and Aunt Petunia hate anything that's even slightly abnormal-I wasn't even allowed to say the word magic and if I did I'd get locked up in my cupboard."
Harry must have said something wrong because May gasped in horror and Tony just nearly slammed on the breaks but caught himself.
"They locked you in a cupboard ?" He demanded angrily. Harry sat back as far as he could.
"Er… yeah.. It wasn't so bad. It got me away from them for a while." He tried to save himself. May and Tony exchanged worried looks. "They eventually gave me a real bedroom." He tried again, which seemed to make things worse because Tony decided he needed to pull the car over to address this and May looked vaguely sick.
Tony sucked in several breaths, as if trying to keep himself calm. What had Harry said? Was he going to kick him out of the car?
"You're Uncle…" The man started. "He works for uh.. Drill manufacturing company right? Grunnings?"
"Yeah… he's worked there awhile now." Harry offered, not sure at all where this was going.
"Good. Friday." He addressed his sunglasses. "Call Ms Potts." he instructed as he changed gears on the car and they were off again. The phone seemed to have connected to the car because there was a noise like a phone ringing out until finally a woman answered, she sounded exhausted.
"Hello?" The tired voice came over the car's intercom.
"Hey Pep." Tony greeted almost cheerfully. "I need you to do me a favor and buy a company for me."
"Tony, I swear to god-" The woman went from tired to annoyed faster than Harry thought was possible.
"Don't swear, you're on speaker. Say hi to Harry and May." He told her. Ms Potts groaned.
"Do you have any idea what time it is right now?" She demanded. Tony chose not to answer and went right into why he was calling.
"Yeah, remind me about that later, right now I need you to buy a Drill company out here in the UK. It's called Grunnings." Harry was starting to catch on though. It wasn't him that was in trouble, it was his uncle and part of him wanted to just keep his mouth shut but he knew this wouldn't be right.
"Wait! You can't. They may not have been nice to me but they're still-I don't want anything bad to happen to them." Harry interrupted. "You can't-Are you going to fire him?"
"Tony, what is going on?" Ms Potts demanded.
"Oh don't worry, I'm not looking to fire him." He said almost too gleefully. "I have something much better in mind. Pepper, if you don't acquire the company, I'll get Friday to do it." Harry got the distinct impression that Pepper had rolled her eyes.
"You can't just buy every company you have a personal vendetta against." Pepper said, sensibly.
"Yes, I can. And this isn't a personal vendetta against the company. But we'll talk about that later." Tony told her. Harry heard Pepper yawning before she finally gave in.
"Fine. I'll get started on that in the morning." She promised.
"Good. Say bye to May and Harry."
"Bye, I'll see you three later." Pepper told them all.
"Oh, Pepper! How's Peter?" May got in before the line disconnected.
"Don't worry May, I'm keeping an eye on him. He's still coughing and sneezing but he seems to be okay. Now, I'm going back to bed." She clicked the phone off before May could ask her anything else.
"Er… so you're not planning on firing my Uncle?" Harry tested the waters.
"Nope." Tony said calmly.
"Then what are you going to do?" He chanced asking.
"I'm gonna move his office." The man responded easily.
"That's all?" Harry pressed.
"That's all." Tony promised.
