Sonic crawled out from the heavy mass that held him prisoner. He was a little discombobulated, a little messed up in the head, a little dizzy. Sonic rubbed his head and stood up.
"Man… What happened?" Sonic grumbled, staggering forward as his vision came to.
"You crashed your plane, dumbass!" An angry Green Tenrec shouted at him. Who was she? Right…. Scourge? No, Surge, surge that was her name.
Sonic's eyes widened as he turned around and saw the plane, sitting on its propeller, a wing lying right next to it.
"MY BABY!" Sonic shouted as he zipped over and fell on his knees at the monument to another one of his failed landing attempts. Sonic found the tears in his eyes, were fortified only by the thought of how Tails would react. The poor guy had wanted to fly with Sonic after fixing it up.
Sonic pulled himself out of his slump as Surge came over, "Gosh you big baby, It's just a fucking plane. Sheesh, you can probably afford a hundred those."
But they wouldn't have the same memories. Sonic stood up, and sighed, but brushed himself off. At least it was still in one… or rather two pieces. They'd be able to fix it later.
"So… Where's Tails?" Sonic grumbled.
Well, he should be right in Front of you Vector's voice came through the ear piece.
Sonic looked at the wreckage, "Well, I don't see him." Sonic grumbled.
Surge sudden called out, "Hey… Uh, Fuck man, there's…there's something over here."
Sonic turned and saw the flat panels that were grey began to glow a bright blue. Sonic walked over to them. They didn't seem to hurt or anything.
Kit squinted at them, "I don't know what's wrong with these."
Sonic frowned at the light blue panels. He knew Eggman was a sucker for dramatic flair, but still, this was a little too much energy for that. Then again, he built a giant space station with his face on it, so maybe not.
Surge suddenly perked up, "Yo, There's the bitch!"
"GREETING HEROES AND HERETICS! WELCOME TO YOUR…. Is that your plane?" Eggman's voice came from the tower, and Sonic saw a large screen.
"Y-yeah." Sonic slumped down, the sight of it reminding Sonic that he would have a lot of work to do afterwards.
"Oh…wow, the memories with that thing…. Wow…" Eggman seemed to gasp, reminiscing.
Sonic saw the Metal Eagle perched on the control tower, watching ever so stiffly.
"I'll…I'll give you a moment of silence." Eggman mumbled sadly.
Sonic nodded as Surge looked at the screen, confused. Still, it hurt to see the plane so broken after all the memories Sonic had with it.
Eggman cleared his throat, "Now! RAPTOR, destroy them!"
The Large eagle screeched spreading its wings to flash glowing square shapes from them.
Sonic and Surge braced, and got ready to run.
RAPTOR rose up and dove towards them. Sonic braced and bent his knee. Surge, however, grinned and ran as the giant eagle curved up and flew straight over them.
Surge curled up and slammed into RAPTOR's back, and Sonic saw metal feathers fall off. Unfortunately, Surge had grabbed on to the metal feathers, which caused her to fall down onto the flying platform.
Sonic called out, "Are you good?"
"Fucking fine, Let's go!" Surge shouted at Sonic and got low as Raptor flew higher overhead.
Sonic looked up as Kit's pack unloaded water tentacles. He began to fire up at the soaring Eagle, "I'll try to hit one of the wings and bring it down! You get ready to tear it up!"
"When the fuck did you start giving orders?" Surge growled at the Fennec, who shrunk down.
"S-Sorry ma'am." Kit mumbled pathetically.
"Well don't just fucking sit there, shoot it down!" Surge shouted at Kit, who nodded softly, and aimed at the sky. Sonic watched a water jet shoot out but miss the wings as the large mechanical eagle turned around to fly straight overhead.
Its wings glowed with the bright orange squares, which began to descend, alternative between the left and right wing. Sonic didn't get the big idea behind the squares until they hit one of Kit's jet streams, stopping it in mid air and pushing it down towards the platform. The orange squares disappeared when they hit the glowing blue tiles.
Sonic got the idea. RAPTOR was going to try to crush them, "Surge, don't get under the squares."
"No shit!" She barked back, but Sonic actually saw a little sweat from her.
RAPTOR landed on the control tower and looked down at them, opening its beak to fire a jet of liquid that caught fire after a second. It spewed all over the flat area where Sonic and Surge were standing. Thankfully, Kit was on fire control, and sprayed out the flames.
Sonic looked up and saw RAPTOR fly up off its perch and down towards them, once again. Sonic had the pattern down, "Alright, Surge, ready to go?"
She grinned back at Sonic, and flashed a thumbs up, "Let's cook this chicken."
Sonic smiled at the trash talk and they both jumped up, and slammed onto the back of RAPTOR, tearing off more metal feathers, exposing what looked like a spine for the metal creature.
Unfortunately, RAPTOR soared higher, and began to drop its squares again.
Kit jumped up, "Can you climb the squares?" Sonic blinked. He hadn't thought of that.
"Kit, you're brilliant, Surge, let's go!" Sonic called out, and ran up to jump on the first square as it got closer to the platform. Sonic jumped on the left square, before jumping to the right one. They were getting higher, with Surge following close behind Sonic.
Sonic jumped to the next left one, then to the right. He wasn't being fast enough, with the orange energy platform he was on already halfway down. They needed to shoot up… Sonic had an idea.
"Surge, You thinking what I'm thinking?" Sonic called out as he jumped to the left one.
Surge seemed to look up for a moment before catching on to Sonic's idea, "Fuck yeah, let's go!" She sped up as Sonic jumped to the last platform. RAPTOR was Still going to perch, which meant Sonic could line up the shot perfectly.
He jumped off the last platform as Sonic heard the cackling air from Surge sparking. Sonic turned around and stretched out his hand as Surge grabbed on. Sonic pulled down as they began to spin, before letting go. The momentum launched Surge like an angry, electric cannon ball at the giant mechanical Eagle, slamming into the breast of the bird.
Sonic plummeted as water jets slowed his descent. For once, water saved his life, "Thanks Kit."
Kit slumped down, "Oh no, She's gonna be really mad at me." Sonic was a little confused.
Then He realized what was wrong. Kit wasn't firing anymore water, he was out.
"YEAH, I AM A GODDESS OF FUCKING LIGHTNING, BITCH!" Sonic looked up to see Surge sparking violently.
The Entire bird glowed with electrical energy as the sphere dropped out. Unfortunately, Tails was flying straight towards the edge of the flying fortress, along with Surge who refused to stop sparking the mechanical bird.
"SURGE, GET OFF!" Sonic called out. Surge tried to jump… in front of the mechanical husk as it flew towards the flat part. It smacked her and sent her flying towards the edge with Tails. Sonic sprinted over as the sphere shatter, but not before Sonic grabbed his little buddy's arm, along with his newest rival's arm.
Unfortunately, Sonic was reminded of one thing in the moment: He was not strong. He had taken hits in his life, and he could life a little. But Surge's metal bones really added weight to her momentum, and the distance from the edge was already so short.
Sonic saw Surge use her feet to try and stop them, but they were closing the edge. Her right arm dangled at her side, "Use you hand to slow us down!"
"SHUT THE FUCK UP!" Surge barked. The arm didn't move the way Sonic wanted, and continued to flap… right as the two slipped off the edge. Sonic used all of his force to keep them hanging over the ledge. They were heavy.
"T-Tails… buddy," Sonic gasped, holding on to his unconscious best friend in one hand, and someone who shocked him last time they were in this situation in the other, "I need you to wake up!"
"I Fucking heal quickly!" Surge growled, twisting her body, adding to the already strenuous task of keeping the three from falling.
Sonic growled, "I don't!" He could already feel his body scrapping along the tiles.
"I wasn't talking to you asshole!" Surge shouted, twisting again. Sonic tried to be reasonab- she broke her arm. That's why she didn't help him. That's why she was holding on with one hand.
Sonic saw the panic in her eyes. She was suddenly mortal, and Sonic could see the fear washing over her face from it.
"I FUCKING HEAL QUICKLY!" She called out. It wasn't fierce though, it was terrified. Sonic realized that even with her regeneration, she would not survive the fall.
"Surge, calm down. KIT CAN YOU HELP ME!" Sonic called out, his stomach was starting to feel warm from the friction. As he inched further over the edge, his feet caught a crack in the tile. His arms were burning from the extra weight.
He was strong, but Sonic was not Knuckles or Amy. He couldn't keep two of them up. He was about to have to make a very easy choice. After all, His little buddy was so light, and easy to carry. Surge was a self proclaimed hater of his, who was extra heavy, and would not stop twisting. The choice was easy.
Sonic grit his teeth. Like hell he was going to make that choice. Sonic dug his feet. Sonic was not about to play arbiter. He was going to save them both.
"TAILS, BUDDY, I NEED YOU TO WAKE UP!" Sonic shouted at the dangling fox. The wind was rushing through Sonic's quills as Surge began to calm down. Her panic was replaced by a bitter snarl.
Sonic panted, and called out, "TAILS! COME ON!"
Sonic felt something grab on to his legs, and began to pull. Kit's help wasn't exactly pulling them back on, but at least his legs weren't getting scrapped as bad.
"Just fucking get on with it." Surge grumbled. Her shoulder was slowly bending back into shape.
Sonic frowned and shook his head, "I don't have the energy for this Surge. I need to you to start working with me."
"You and I both know what I'm fucking talking about." Surge grumbled in another bitter tone, "I'm your enemy, he's your friend. We both fucking know how this is going to go. You'll be saving yourself from a bitch and a rival anyway."
Sonic growled, "I'm not giving up." His arms were popping from the weight.
"Face it, you don't have a choice. You have to pick one, dumbass. That's a fucking comforting thought within itself: You are going to fail." Surge gave Sonic a cynical, dry grin, "You'd never pick me over him."
Sonic felt something flip within him. That line pissed him off more than any of her berating before, "You don't think I have a choice? Well neither do you!" Sonic shouted, putting all of his strength into his core. Sonic began to pulled back with all his might, and for a brief moment, "You are both getting out of here! I don't care if I have to hold on till rain comes to fill Kit's pack, You aren't going to fall!" Sonic shouted.
Surge looked shocked, and almost scared. Unfortunately, Sonic's wind wasn't enough to pull them out.
"TAILS! PLEASE, I'll GET YOU A MINT ICECREAM CAKE! PLEASE, WAKE UP!" Sonic shouted, as he felt actual tears from pain coming out of his eyes. His arms threatened to dislocate.
Surge's shock wore off, "Look at the facts, dumbass. You can't save us both. I'll probably survive anyway. It'll fucking hurt, but I'll get up in a few days."
"AND YOU FACE THE FACTS!" Sonic shouted at her, " YOU ARE A COPY OF ME! YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO REPLACE…. ME!" Sonic gasped as his muscles begged for air, "YOU CAN'T DO THAT IF YOU GIVE UP AT EVERY LITTLE PROBLEM! YOU DON'T HAVE MY WILL TO SAVE THE DAY!"
Sonic hoped for another burst of energy, but Kit was getting tired, and gravity seemed to get stronger with every ounce of exhaustion.
Surge sighed, "Well, I at least got the fucking will to know when it's time to let go." Her quills began to spark, as electrical energy began to move through out her body.
Sonic snarled, "DON'T YOU DARE! IF YOU AREN'T THERE AT THE END, IT'LL BE BECAUSE YOU LET GO. I AM FINISHING THIS STORY, OR I'LL DIE TRYING!" Sonic shouted at her gasping for the last bit of strength.
Sonic saw her eyes widen, and she locked up. Her electricity sparked and crackled in the wind, creating a light boom of thunder.
Tails yelped and spun his namesakes, "AAHHH SONIC HELP!" Fortunately, the shock was enough to lift them up and Sonic pulled back, pulling the two onto the platform.
He looked down. Yellow fur, check. Blue fur, check. Green quills… check. Sonic slumped back.
"S-Sonic where are we?" Tails asked. Sonic closed his eyes. He needed a nap. A nice chilidog, and a nap.
"Egg base dumbass." Surge growled, panting.
"How did you get up-… MY BABY!" Tails called out, and Sonic's eyes widened. He found himself suddenly very afraid.
Tails ran to the wreckage of the Tornado. He dropped to his knee, "no…NO!" He scream as if he had just lost his best friend.
Sonic stood up and starting walking over to the fox.
"Hey, asshat… why'd didn't you let go?" Surge growled, walking along with Sonic.
"I told you. I'm not Starline. I am finishing your story. I'm on this ride as long as you are." Sonic smiled at her, and gave her a wink as he went to face death at the hand of his little buddy.
Sonic placed a hand on Tails' shoulder, "Hey buddy, it's not that bad. I mean, we'll have to bend the wheels back, and get the wing back on, and replace the propeller, and patch up some holes. But we can do that. A fun little project between bros." Sonic tried to laugh as Tails' fur flared up.
Then it relaxed, and Tails gave a light laugh, "Yeah… I guess it could be a lot worse." He chuckled, and Sonic joined in the laughter.
BOOM!
Sonic's eyes shot up to see the dripping fuel had struck the engine and made the plane explode.
"MY BABY!" Tails shouted once again as pieces flew across the deck. Tails slumped down, hopelessly as a wheel skid across the ground in front of him. Sonic was pretty sure the plane was in more pieces it was when it was made in the factory.
A small, watery serpent snaked its way under them, grabbing the wheel.
Sonic and Tails' eyes followed it to its source as they saw Kit, who had a small water bubble seem to piece the plane back together. It most certainly would not hold up once the water stopped holding together, but it was… a nice gesture.
Kit flashed a soft, toothy, apologetic grin at Tails. Sonic saw a water tentacle bring the Tornado's rudder and place it in Tails' hand.
"Thanks Kit…. Kit?" Tails seemed to realize just who Sonic was with, "SURGE? SONIC-"
"We called a truce, retard." Surge groaned, "Fuck, This long day is starting to turn into a long week. I need to fucking eat. Faker, you owe me lunch… or dinner I guess. Let's go."
Sonic sighed, and smiled at Tails, who was definitely wanting an explanation. Sonic needed a shower, food, a nap. He could go for a brand-new body at this point. He tossed the warp ring to the edge of the platform.
The ring opened a portal to the legendary diner. Sonic hoped Alice was still working, or maybe not, She'd earned a rest. The Tornado parts could wait outside, if anyone stole them and put the plane back together for free, more power to them.
They walked into the dinner, sure enough, Alice was waiting tables.
Sonic felt Tails slide under him and help lift Sonic up. He wasn't quite at that level of being tired yet, but Sonic wasn't in the mood to argue.
Kit immediately ran to their booth that they had sat at when they first came. He jumped in the seat as Sonic and Surge made their way over. Foxes and Quills sat across from each other. Sonic arced his back and popped it, feeling something give way for him as he felt the sweet release of pressure and his bones pop into place.
Surge raised an eyebrow at Sonic, "You look like shit."
Sonic was about to retort her statement when Alice came by, "Oh my, you do look messed up my dear." She sighed.
"I was talking to you, dumbass." Surge groaned, but her eyes were kept on Sonic. She actually seemed the slightest bit worried. He was almost touched.
"Right, What can I get you to drink?" Alice was giving her best formal smile. Surge was going make Sonic have to change his name to come back.
"Well… I'll take a water, Kit'll have the chocolate caramel shake." Surge laid back. As the order went to Sonic and Tails.
Tails frowned, "W-Well… I'll have…" He hesitated.
"Buddy, come on, I'm buying. And you've earned a splurge." Sonic smiled at his little buddy, who's tails began to wag ever so slightly.
"Well, then I'll have the Mint Chocolate shake." Tails jumped up with passion. Kit seemed to be watching him very closely.
Alice finished writing and went to the kitchen.
Sonic looked at Surge, "Do you have to be a jerk to her?"
Surge rolled her eyes and had a grin plastered on her face, "Bah, I'm having fun. Leave me the fuck alone."
Sonic shook his head, "You're going to get thrown out."
"Bullshit, they can't throw me out, and they won't throw Sonic the Fucking Hedgehog out." Surge snorted, keeping her cocky grin.
"Just… try to be nicer." Sonic realized he wasn't really break anymore ground today.
"Fuck that." Surge rolled her eyes as they sat there.
They sat there as their drinks came out.
"So, what can I get you to eat?" Alice asked, smiling.
Sonic looked at Tails, "What are you thinking, buddy?"
"I kind of want the chicken tenders, with a side of onion rings." Tails smiled up at her.
"Any sauce with that?" Alice asked, looking at the fox carefully.
Tails frowned for a moment, "Honey mustard please."
Surge sat up, "Fuck it, I'll try it."
Sonic sighed, "Four orders of Chicken Tenders with honey mustard and four sides of onion rings." Sonic smiled as Kit lit up, realizing he was getting an order of food.
Surge laughed, "Got that, Ally?" Surge seemed to be looking for a fight.
The old chipmunk simple shook her head and went back to the kitchen. Sonic stood up.
"Oh come, I'm just fucking with her." Surge grinned innocently.
Sonic shook his head and went to the kitchen where Alice hooked their order and turned around, before noticing Sonic, "You are fine. Your friend needs to have a firm spanking."
"She's a little old for that." Sonic mumbled, looking down.
"They're never too old." Alice frowned. She was probably right, but still, there had to be some restraint.
"Look, I'm sorry. I will give you a signed shoe if you put with her." Sonic smiled weakly.
Alice smiled back at him, "Well… My little girl's birthday is coming up. I suppose that will work. Your meal is on the house."
Sonic blinked and pulled his shoe off. She handed him a pen, where he wrote on the soles.
To my briany fan,
Sonic the Hedgehog
Sonic handed her the red shoe, and ran back. At least he staved off an incident.
Sonic found his seat, and saw Tails and Kit seemed to be staring at each other while drinking their milk shakes. No, Tails was drinking his milkshake, and Kit was copying him.
Surge was looking off to the side, resting her hand on her fixed arm. Then Sonic saw the cut on it.
"Surge, you're cut." Sonic blinked. Didn't she heal fast?
Surge sat up and looked at her arm, "Shit… why isn't it better yet?"
"Why isn't what better?" Tails asked, pulling away from his milkshake, prompting Kitsunami to do the same.
"My arm, fuck, it usually heals pretty quick." Surge growled, feeling her arm, "Ever since I fried the metal virus, this body has been a piece of shit." She waved her arm angrily.
"Metal virus…." Tails repeated, before perking up. He found something, "Let's talk at my shop when we're done."
Their food arrived, and Sonic watched Surge's face as she ate the chicken tenders and nodded, "Yep, that's a fucking piece of chicken in friend bread. Pretty fucking bad." She still ate her whole plate, along with the onion rings.
She just couldn't admit she was happy, could she?
Sonic loved it all. He was hungry and tired, so any food was good to him. Sonic explained the situation to Tails who seemed to weigh everything. The pleasure didn't stop him from noticing Surge was passing glances his way, sometimes angry, sometimes softer, as if distrustful. At least it wasn't all angry this time.
They used another warp ring to go back to the Garage.
Sonic and Surge walked in and sat against the wall. Kit came and hopped up on a seat, kicking his legs in the air.
Tails sat down, "Alright, Surge, you said you destroyed some of the Metal Virus with Electrical shocks?" He seemed to eye her very intensely.
"Yeah, I fucking did, so what?" Surge growled, before her eyes sort of widened with realization.
"I think that if the intense electrical output might have killed pieces of your dormant healing factor." Tails proposed, sounding deeply entranced with his theory, "I'm no bioengineer but I believe-"
"English, Dumbass!" Surge shouted, sounding more stressed than Sonic expected.
Sonic stepped in, frowning, " I think… he's saying your electricity is hurting your healing ability. You're killing yourself."
Surge recoiled, "What the fuck?"
"Starline couldn't have known about the virus's vulnerability to intense temperature." Tails grumbled, still in deeper thought, "I wouldn't recommend being a tesla coil any time soon."
Surge looked winded, before gritting her teeth. Kit seemed to stare at his big sister figure intensely, as if worried about her.
Sonic decided to cut it short, "Look, guys, I'm tired and a oily. Why don't we take a shower and talk about it in the morning?"
Surge turned and glared at Sonic. Sonic was ready for a berating, but instead, Surge sighed, "Fucking fine with me. I get first shower."
She went in for a shower, passing Sonic a glance. She didn't say anything in that brief second, but he saw so many emotions, one of which that was so present was anger, along with fear.
Sonic waited while Surge went for a shower.
"Hey, pass me the 3/4 wrench." Tails called out over by the pile of wreckage they put in the garage.
A water tentacle held up the wrench and passed it to Tails. Sonic saw Kit's face look with conflict at Tails.
Tails picked up the wrench out of Kit's hand, "Thanks, you're pretty quick, Kit."
Kit's ears shot up and he had a sparkle in his eyes from Tails' praise.
Sonic walked back to the living room, and waited for the water to stop. She seemed to be taking a while, as if to take all of Sonic's hot water again.
Sonic was kind of worried about her. She seemed to be quieter than usual, and it might have just been exhaustion.
The shower turned off, and Sonic waited by the door. Surge came out in a bathrobe, and looked around, as if she might be free from Sonic.
"Hey, No loose quills again?" Sonic asked with a laugh. His laugh was cut short when a rancid smell hit his face. He pulled away as Surge handed him her pants and top.
"This shit needs to get washed." Surge groaned and Sonic was inclined to agree. He ran over to the washing machine and threw her clothes in for a quick wash.
Sonic then ran into the shower right as Surge started up the Karaoke game.
The water actually got warm after a while. He also didn't notice any steam coming out of the bathroom when she left. Did she take a cold shower?
Sonic turned the water up and climbed in. What was she keeping behind her confident face? Sonic wanted to help her. He did, he really wanted to keep her from going the path that so many villains he fought did. He couldn't do that if she didn't want to be helped.
Then again, She gave him the time of day. It was a start, and if he didn't have her across that finish line by the end of this adventure, he'd keep trying.
Sonic finished up his scrubbing and came out. Surge was screaming into the mic, but facing the window, "MAKES ME THAT MUCH WISER, SO THANKS FOR MAKING ME-A FIGHTER!" Surge gave a middle finger to the window.
Sonic saw the score on the screen. A 96 percent, not bad.
Sonic laughed, "What'd the window do to you?" he kept calm as she jerked around.
"Starline's being a little bitch, sending his bots out to spy on us." Surge growled, before giving another middle finger at the window.
Sonic walked next to her, and joined her in giving the middle finger to the robot that was outside.
Surge passed him the mic, "Your turn." She seemed very focused on him that moment as she went and sat down on the couch.
Sonic wasn't exactly in a singing mood, but he'd humor her. He scrolled through the songs.
Then he found it. Sonic quicky scrolled down and pressed play. He took a deep breath as the words came on the screen, "When the days are cold and the cards all fold and the saints we see Are all made of gold"
He took a breath and leaned back, "When your dreams all fail, and the ones we hail are the worst of all and the blood's run stale."
A second mic joined in and Surge's voice filled Sonic's ears, "I want to hide the truth, I want to shelter you. But with the beast inside There's nowhere we can hide."
They sang together, matching the tones perfectly according to the program, "No matter what we breed, We still are made of greed. This is my kingdom come, This is my kingdom come!"
Sonic took the lead with the next line, "When you feel my heat, look into my eyes. It's where my demons hide, It's where my demons hide." Sonic turned to face Surge with a sad smile, "Don't get too close, It's dark inside. It's where my demons hide, It's where my demons hide."
Sonic took a breath, "When the curtain's call is the last of all."
"When the lights fade out, All the sinners crawl". Surge stood up and joined him, gritting her teeth, "So they dug your grave-"
Sonic went in for his statement, staring into Surge's eyes in a challenging pose, "-And the masquerade Will come calling out At the mess you made."
Surge recoiled slight, before she seemed to get a little sad, "Don't want to let you down, But I am hell bound."
Sonic actual heard himself growl into the mic, "Though this is all for you, Don't want to hide the truth!"
He actual stopped himself, and gave her a softer smile. She seemed to take his apology without acknowledgement, "No matter what we breed, We still are made of greed. This is my kingdom come, This is my kingdom come"
Surge Leaned in and took the lead, "When you feel my heat, Look into my eyes. It's where my demons hide, It's where my demons hide." Her voice seemed to catch ever so slightly, "Don't get too close, It's dark inside. It's where my demons hide It's where my demons hide."
Sonic spread his left arm out as he sang, circling Surge, "They say it's what you make."
Surge followed his circle in a strange motion that could turn into a duel or a dance, "I say it's up to fate, it's woven in my soul, I need to let you go."
Sonic frowned, but stepped closer to Surge as he moved around, breaking the circle, "Your eyes, they shined so bright, I want to save their light."
Surge leaned into her mic, and closed her eyes seeming to be frustrated, "I can't escape this hell, Unless you show me how!"
Sonic smiled and sang, "When you feel my heat, Look into my eyes! It's where my demons hide It's where my demons hide."
Surge joined back in shaking her head ever so slightly, "Don't get too close, It's dark inside! It's where my demons hide! IT'S WHERE MY DEMONS HIDE!" She arced her back and screamed at the sky with that line.
They sat there, panting. That was more exciting than Sonic remembered. He and Surge stared into each other's eyes. And Sonic saw something in them that he hadn't seen since their dinner at Rouge's club: hope. Hope. And then it was gone as the washer dinged.
Surge zipped away, leaving the white bathrobe on the ground. She zipped back in with her pants and top, "Well, that was fun. See you tomorrow, bitch."
Sonic felt a strange wave of frustration he didn't normally feel wash over him, "Why won't you give me a chance? I want to help you! I'm not Starline, I'm not going to use you and then throw you out like a bag of old chip! Just take that first step with me, and I'll be there till the finish line! PLEASE!" Sonic didn't even fully understand his frustration, but he felt very passionate about this.
Surge's fists tightened. Sonic knew he had lost. Whatever progress he had made, he'd thrown away in that moment.
"Fuck this." Surge growled as she came to a stop, "Tomorrow." With that, she went to her room.
Tomorrow? What did that mean?
Sonic dared to feel a little hopeful. Maybe it wasn't all wasted?

Alright, that concludes Tails' rescue. This thing is getting surprisingly popular.
I am kind of curious about some stuff, and I think I'll put a poll or two out. We'll see.
Leave a review and I'll respond in the next chapter. If you want a more immediate response, or don't want everyone seeing what you think, I'll take a private message.
