Chapter 4- Changing fate

Clarke turns from the airlock and walks over to the guards waiting to be escorted back to her cell. Wells pulls her into his arms.

"I'm so so sorry, Clarke... I tried. I'm sorry. "

"It's OK Wells, none of this is your fault."

"It is, though, Clarke..." He glances at a heartbroken sobbing Abbey.

"I told my dad it was me. I told him what you told me and what your dad wanted to do.."

"Wells don't... I know you're trying to be a good friend. I know you want to preserve my relationship with my mother, but I know it was her. I know she's the one that told Jaha, " she says as she squeezes his arm. Abbey looks at her with tears in her eyes.

"Clarke...I...I l... I didn't mean for this to happen, I thought Jaha would talk him out of it. " Clarke pushes down her anger and shakes her head.

"Mom, you knew... deep down... what he would do...what the council always does for anything they perceive a crime. It's done now ... I forgive you for your part in this, but I need you to do something for me."

"Anything Clarke, if I can do it, I will, sweetie,"

Clarke takes a deep breath, trying to calm the nerves that suddenly blossom in her stomach.

"Now that Dad's gone, they won't be able to fix the fault with the air system, so they will make a decision to either float people or send them to earth."

Abbey gasps "Clarke they wouldn't do that."

"Yes Mom...yes they would because they will do anything to save themselves whether that's by killing enmass to get a few extra weeks or sending a group to earth to see if it is survivable earlier that forcasted" Clarke turns to her mom now outside her cell.

"Who do you think they'll send mom? Who do they class as expendable because when we all reach 18, we will probably be floated anyway?" Clarke gestures at the cells around them."If there's even enough air for us to reach that age." Abbey's eyes fill with tears again.

"Don't worry, Clarke, I won't let them send you, I'll keep you safe..."

"No, mom! That's what I need from you...I need you to make sure I go. Even if there's a chance I might die, there's a chance I won't, and I could live, mom. I doubt even with your position on the council that you will be able to convince them I'm not a threat. " Abbey reaches out and clasps Clarke's hands in hers.

"But why Clarke... even if it happens...its such a risk...why do you want to go?" Clarke tries not to roll her eyes at her mom's protectiveness.

"It's home mom, it's what I've always dreamed of, and it's everything I want. I know you want to keep me alive, but this mom... this is how I live. "
