Percy POV:
"What did you do in class?" Annabeth hissed under her breath, as she met with Nico and me for our final class of the day, Care of Magical Creatures. I hoped there wouldn't be another minotaur. "I'm sorry," I said. "It was an accident. I've just said it was a malfunction with my magic or something,"
"That's good," She said, sighing a breath of relief. "Let's join back with the class." She kissed me on the cheek, "You have to be careful, Seaweed Brain,"
"Hello, Annabeth, Nico," Hermione said as we came next to them. "What were you chatting about?"
"I heard a rumour about something happening in one of Percy's classes, today," Annabeth said, "Actually more than one. I was wondering what truly happened."
"What did you hear?"
"Oh, a lot, though the most believable was the one Cho told me, something about some water trick Percy did. He cleared it up though, said something funny probably happened with his wand."
"Come 'round, something special and safer for y'all today!" Hagrid called bringing us closer to one of the corners of the school. "I confirmed with Professor Dumbledore, and he allowed me to let you see this magnificent creature. Everyone, meet Rocky!" My first thought when seeing "Rocky" was Blackjack? Hagrid had brought out a pegasus completely black, who had nickered at me with recognition. Hey Boss. As a son of Poseidon, I could talk telepathically to many different creatures. You don't need to call me boss, but...wait, why did Hagrid call you Rocky?
He makes good rock cakes. I should be the one to call him Rocky, or maybe Cakey. That reminds me, any donuts? I heard about Hagrid's rock cakes, but apparently, Blackjack liked them. Nope, sorry. How's your wound?
Better. I can fly now.
What are you doing here?
You see, I was healing from my wound so I wasn't able to get you to Pig boils magic school, did I hear a tinge of annoyance in his voice, or... er message? So I decided to visit you. Cakey found me later and wanted to show me to his students which I suppose you are now.
"Percy," Annabeth was tugging on my sleeve, I realized that Blackjack and I were just staring at each other for a while. "Now," Hagrid began, "Pegasi are similar to a great many creatures. They are much like Abraxans with the only diff'rence between the two species is that Abraxans are much larger. Pegasi are often free animals, but some people may try catching them. Some people can ride 'em, though I must admit that I haven't seen someone ride one in a while. When approaching a pegasus, you have to be gentle, they can be very powerful. In a sense, they are very similar to hippogriffs. So, who wants to approach Rocky?" Blackjack seemed to have other ideas. He immediately walked towards me nuzzling me in the neck. I smiled and hugged back. Let's go for a ride. Blackjack gave me a nudge. "Look at that!" Hagrid said, beaming, "I think it likes you already, Percy!" In front of everyone? Blackjack-, I wasn't able to speak much before Blackjack nudged me again. I looked back to Annabeth and Nico who both seemed to have already realized who "Rocky" was.
"Say, Percy," Hagrid said, taking note of Blackjack's impatient beating of his wings, every few moments lifting from the ground and constant nudging at me. "I think Rocky wants ye to ride him!" See boss, Cakey agrees with me. Nico and Annabeth shrugged their shoulders, I suppose if they were okay with it too. "Okay," I said, mounting Blackjack, immediately once I was on his back. After a gallop, he sprinted into the air, the wind beating at us. I smiled, I did miss Blackjack, and it was nice to do something I was more familiar with at Hogwarts, that is besides being hounded by the minotaur.
Blackjack soared through the sky, at one point I think we might have even lost some sight of Hogwarts the farther and higher we went. I wasn't sure how Hagrid was responding to that, but I was enjoying it. Riding Blackjack again, gave me a rush of adrenaline, only without the threat of something terrible happening. It was so peaceful and fun. I stroked Blackjack's mane as we flew back near the Turrets of Hogwarts then back out over the nearby lake. Blackjack seemed to have sensed my joy and gave another nicker as if to say, Duh.
After what seemed like only a few minutes, we saw Hagrid waving at us, wanting us to go down. Thanks for coming. Are you staying at Hogwarts?
Nah, but when you need me I'll come. We landed softly on the ground, as we did dozens of times before. "Bravo Percy!" Hagrid congratulated as I dismounted Blackjack, "You and Rocky looked amazing. I didn't even have to help you mount him!"
"Thanks," I said, going back to the crowd of students. The rest of the class everyone got to approach Blackjack and learn something about pegasi, though he hadn't let anyone fly him other than me. Annabeth and Nico were hinted to by Hagrid, but they both declined. "Why didn't you fly B-Rocky?" I asked once the class was finished.
"I would have, but then I thought it'd be best if I didn't. I ate enough for lunch, besides it was cute seeing you have your moment," Annabeth said. "You should've seen everyone's face when they saw you fly, Hagrid was growing worried when we lost sight of you,"
"I think you know my preferred way of travelling," Nico said.
We headed to the common room after dinner. Harry, Ron, and Hermione were telling me about Buckbeak, a hippogriff Harry had a similar experience with. "Though you and Blackjack seemed a lot better than Buckbeak and I did,"
"I'm sure you were fine. I enjoyed flying Rocky,"
"I think I rather a broomstick,"
"Percy, you're going to try out right?" Ron asked, "You looked great with Rocky, just pretend the broom is a pegasus,"
"I'll be sure to keep that in mind," I mumbled, as Hermione said the password and we entered the common room. I immediately went to the dormitories, sitting down on my bed, and noticed a scroll of paper on my bed, topped with a violet ribbon. "Oh, it's starting again," Hermione remarked. I looked at the scroll.
Percy,
I would be most pleased if you could come to my office for dinner this Friday.
Sincerely H.E.F Slughorn
Slughorn? Wasn't he the potions master? "Why would the potions teacher want to invite me to dinner?" I asked, tossing the invitation onto my pillow.
"Professor Slughorn has this club-" Hermione began.
"The Slug Club," Ron interjected.
"Yes, the Slug Club, where he invites certain students for get-togethers. Looks like this time, he chose you to be one of its members,"
"I can't believe he's doing this, now." Harry said, looking at his parchment.
"I can't believe I still don't have an invitation!" Ron growled, flipping over his pillow and turning through his blanket. "Is that man blind!?" He turned to Hermione, "Do you have one? Does Ginny?"
"I don't know," Hermione said, "I haven't checked yet," She left the male dormitories to go to hers.
"If you want," Harry said, "I can skip the dinner," He didn't sound all too pleased to go anyways.
"As much as I might like that," Ron said, though his tone clearly stated he also wanted to attend. "You best not. Go ahead, attend, Tell me why that daft man didn't invite me."
