The next day, Peter stayed by Ruby's side for as long as he was able to. Considering how the Golden Mountains were in his territory, a lot of creatures were eager to speak with Peter upon this matter. He tried to brush everything off to his siblings as long as he could but even Ruby knew of his duties. Still, it worried him that his pregnant wife was in such turmoil over this.
"Let's go away to the countryside" Peter suggested, "Just for the weekend. You've been cooped up in here for too long"
"I thought that was the plan" Ruby sighed, "No, I will not go anywhere until I know my family and best friend are safe"
"They should be here any moment now" Peter glanced up to the sky, "The wind is on their side"
Ruby nodded, "That is comforting"
"What is not comforting is you worrying so much, my love" Peter sighed, "Right now, you really need to start taking care of yourself and protecting our own child-"
"But I can not, Peter" Ruby responded, "Now that I know the truth, it is too hard to just cast away-"
"Which is why I didn't want to tell you in the first place" Peter scrunched up his nose and pinched the bridge of his nose, "Please put your faith in me and know that I am doing everything I can to protect your homeland"
Ruby turned and faced him as she actually noticed for the first time how tired he was. She tried to remember if she saw Peter climb into bed with her but Ruby was so exhausted with this new information that she slept the whole night. Ruby slowly walked over and placed her hand on his shoulder.
"I do not doubt you, my love" Ruby told him, "This just makes me nervous… the whole ordeal. I do not know what a Narnian would do such a thing"
"I don't know either" Peter looked up to her, "But we're trying on all fronts; the betrothal party, the last rebels of Jadis, and others. We will find an answer soon enough"
Ruby nodded, "I believe in you, my dear"
Ruby sat down and kissed him partly on the lips and partly on the cheek. Peter smiled at her slowly as she could see the redness in his eyes.
"You must sleep" Ruby told him, "You have not been sleeping at all these last few days. Do not think I have not noticed, Peter. Let everyone else deal with the decision making. I am sure Orieus is doing everything he can to make sure no one can disturb you"
"I sent Orieus away," Peter explained, "He's one of my best warriors; I can't possibly keep him here all the time. The biggest threat is your homeland and that is where I sent him"
Ruby straightened up and nodded, "Thank you, he never disappoints"
"Besides, your family should be coming soon" Peter glanced up to the spotless sky, "I don't want them to land and hear that their son-in-law was sleeping peacefully in his bed while their daughter worries"
"They would not think in that way" Ruby told him with a smile, "They would have understood what kind of pressure you have placed yourself in lately"
Peter huffed, "Trust me, I wouldn't have wanted any of this to happen"
Peter glanced down to his wedding band as he twirled it; Narnians never had wedding rings before but Peter suggested it for their ceremony.
"It just makes me so confused," Peter explained, "How long has this been going on? Were they always mad and why hasn't anyone brought this up to my attention before. I thought everyone was happy with our union. Isn't that not enough?"
"It is not you, my love" Ruby sighed, "Harpy's have been known as allies to the White Witch so most believe we all stood with her. She wanted us on her side; make no mistake, she found our siren songs to be of value. But we resisted and in our rebellion, she made sure that it was too cold for any of us to take flight"
"I have heard that before, Ruby" Peter reminded her, "And I don't need the explanation but maybe the people might? A public lesson, perhaps?"
"Even if you did, mind as well have half of Narnia testify on their own behalf" Ruby sighed.
A scream filled the air from high above, normally it would've sent any normal person on edge but not Ruby. She shot up to her feet and glanced up to the sky as four Harpy's came into view. Another scream chirped out as she recognized it as her father's scream. Ruby flapped her wings with excitement but knew to keep herself on the ground as she looked over to Peter with a bright smile on her face. Peter smiled and nodded back, noticing this is the happiest she has been in a while.
"Hello, my dear one!" her father said as he hugged her, "Or should I say "Good afternoon, High Queen Consort "!"
"Father! Mother!" Ruby giggled, "Oh, I am so relieved to see you are all okay"
"We did not want you to worry" Ruby's mother turned and smiled to Peter, "But High King Peter told us that you were worried about us so we did not want to put you under more stress"
"I told you, Willow, you can call me Peter" Peter took a step toward Ruby's father, "I hope your travel wasn't too difficult, Noah"
"Oh, nonsense" Ruby's father said, "With the four of us combining our wind manipulation, we came here in no time"
"Violet!" Ruby turned to her little sister, "My, have you grown!"
"I could say the same to you" Violet reached out and touched Ruby's womb, "We have been waiting for our invitation to come during your last term"
Lucy suddenly appeared on the balcony as all of the Harpy's bowed in respect. Lucy waved them off as she quickly went over to Violet and hugged her. The two youngest sisters were almost close in age and Lucy actually enjoyed it whenever Violet came to visit. Ruby turned and smiled at Peter before she noticed the last guest, purposely lingering in the back.
"If there is anything I learned from the betrothal event" Dawn came up to them, "Is to save the best for last"
"My dear friend" Ruby leaned over and hugged Dawn, "I have missed you the most"
"Me too" she then turned to Peter, "But you are the safest one in Narnia so I slept well each night"
Ruby's eyebrows furrowed as she opened up her mouth to start her questions but Dawn quickly shook her head and placed her finger to her lips. She shut her mouth as Dawn pointed to the happy reunion as both Edmund and Susan had joined the commotion. Her questions faded as she turned back to her best friend who smiled at her.
"We can get to the attacks later" Dawn informed her, "But right now, let's just enjoy this moment of unity"
Ruby nodded as she turned to join her family as Dawn winked to Peter, "How is it that you can get her to do that without question"
"Easy" Dawn said, "I am her best friend"
