Percy let out a heavy sighed as he finished marking up the last question on a student's test. Every time he was forced to sit and grade a test, he really began to question his choice to become a teacher. How the hell had Paul done this for so long? Better question was how the hell had Chiron done this for a year when he hadn't even been a real middle school teacher?

With a relieved sigh, he dropped his pen to the desk and leaned back in his chair. He rubbed his face tiredly with his hands, before stretching high into the air. He glanced at his watch and sighed. It had taken him far too long to grade the damned things, and aside from the janitorial staff, he was the only person in the building.

Thankfully, he wasn't missing out on any time with Kara. She was dealing with some earthquake off the coast of Haiti and aiding with the rest of the League in cleaning up the aftermath. It was the only reason he was willing to stay in the school and work so late into the evening.

Groaning, he slid out of his chair and snagged his discarded coat and bag from the ground. He was looking forward to heating up leftover pork-chops and a cold beer for dinner. Maybe he'd even dip into some of the Superman ice cream in the freezer.

He said goodnight to the night janitor on his way out of the building and began making his way down the block. He'd heard horror stories from Kara and his colleagues about Gotham, and normally he made it a priority to get out of the city before night fell. Granted, it wasn't that he was necessarily afraid of getting mugged. Gods only knew that he could handle anything that Gotham had to throw at him, he just didn't want to have to deal with it.

After only a few minutes, he reached the alleyway that housed the Zeta-tube he used to get back home to Metropolis. He took a quick peek up and down the street to make sure that nobody was watching as he stepped into the alleyway.

Percy had barely taken a step into the darkness of the alley before he felt a chill run down his spine. It had been a long time since he had felt like this. It was the same feeling he would get whenever he got too close to a monster. He glanced around him, spreading his senses around. He felt several bodies around him, but before he could make a move he felt something embed itself in his back. Less than a second later, he let out a startled grunt as tens of thousands of volts of electricity suddenly began coursing into him.

He snarled and swung around, throwing his fists violently but there was nobody behind him.

"He's still standing, hit him again!" Said a male voice from somewhere behind him. Another taser embedded itself into his spine, and and roared in pain and fury as more electricity began to course through him. Spittle dripped from his lips as he let out another roar of fury and charged forward in the direction of the second taser. He crossed the distance in a flash, and collided with a body. The man let out a startled cry as they fell to the ground in a heap. The current of electricity coursing through Percy shocked the man, who let out a startled scream of pain before falling limp under Percy. A third taser tore into him, but Percy ignored it as he clambered off of the fallen man he'd tackled.

"Fucking hell!" Someone screamed, "What the hell is this guy!"

"Someone hit him with something!"

"Move!"

Percy was just turning around, preparing to charge when something hard and heavy slammed into his temple. He staggered, stars in his eyes and his head throbbing.

"Fucking hell!" Someone called out, "What does it take to knock this guy out? Hit him again!"

Percy roared once more, and took a mighty swing through the air. His fist connected with flesh and, in spite of the fact that punch had been sloppy, there was a grunt of pain as another body hit the pavement.

"This isn't worth it!" Someone shouted,

"Shut the fuck up and hit him again!"

Percy, still have blinded and more than a little delirious, stood up and wildly charged into the darkness in the direction of one of the speakers.

"Look out!"

There was the sound of feet scrambling just out of the way of Percy's charge, and in his blind rush, he charged straight into the brick of the building marking the alleyway. His nose crunched, and he bite down on his tongue hard enough to draw blood as he dazed himself once more. Stumbling away from the wall, something hard and heavy slammed into his other temple. With a groan, Percy's world descended into darkness, and he fell in a thundering heap onto the cold ground.

BREAK

The light of the city had never looked so beautiful to Kara. She was tired, smelled like garbage, and wanted nothing more than a hot shower and some deep sleep. The earthquake had been bad. Really bad, and even with almost the entire League on staff, it had taken the better part of the entire day to clear enough of the wreckage and the debris for the civilians to begin working on reconstruction.

A happy smile appeared on her face as the view of the apartment she and Percy shared came into view. They hadn't officially moved in together yet, but Percy had made her a key for the apartment and given that she spent nearly all of her time there, she figured it was only a matter of time before they officially started living together. The thought brought a smile to her tired and worn out features.

Happiness and excitement to finally be home, Kara sped up her approach and in the blink of an eye, she was back inside the safe confines of their apartment. But Kara's stomach dropped the moment she stepped into the apartment. It was late, well after two in the morning and Percy should have been fast asleep. Snoring in their bed. Drooling on their pillow.

But there was no noise.

Nothing.

She stared up to their bedroom, but she couldn't see Percy. She zoomed into the living room, but he wasn't there either and the television was off. Her heart began beating faster, but she tried to squash the swelling of panic. She was making more of this than was strictly necessary. She needed to remember to breathe. Reaching into her belt, she pulled her phone free and started hammering in Percy's number, but it went straight to voicemail.

Her panic turned into outright hysteria as she tore out of the apartment and raced into the night sky. She raced from one corner of the city to the other, stretching her enhanced senses to the absolute limit. She scanned every rooftop, listened to every odd noise. From the mewling cat on forty-second to the couple of raunchy sex on Constellation Ave. But everywhere she still couldn't find him anywhere.

The worst situations started flying through her mind. Visions of Percy, shot and dead on the street in Gotham, played in her mind. Her breathing labored, and her mind a hazy fog of panic and fear, she tore off in the direction of Gotham. In less than a minute, she was hovering over the city, directly above Gotham Academy.

She scanned the trail that she knew Percy took between the academy and the nearest Zeta-tube that the League had installed. Her gaze drifted over to the alley that housed the tube and her heart stopped.

Blood.

She landed with an unsteady 'THUD' on the concrete, running her gaze around the alley. Among the blood, were urine stains, drool and spittle, and the signs of battle. Something had happened here. A fight.

An ambush.

Kara started to shake, she pressed her trembling hand to the communication device still in her ear.

"Kal-El!" She all but screamed into the mic, "Kal-El, pick up! Emergency!" She was so flustered, that she didn't even register that she slipped into her native tongue.

"Kara?" Asked a groggy Kal-El on the other end of the communication device. Clearly, he had been asleep when Kara had started calling, "What's going on?"

"Percy's been taken!" She cried out. She was having difficulty breathing, and she was beginning to hyperventilate.

"Kara, breathe," ordered Kal-El, sounding suddenly awake and alert, "Walk me through what happened?"

"I got back to my apartment but Percy wasn't there, so I tried calling him but it went straight to voicemail, so I tried flying around the city but he's not anywhere in the city! So I flew over to Gotham and in the alley near the Zeta-tube there…blood…Percy…." her speech deteriorated into incoherent rambling as tears began flowing fast and free.

"Kara! Breathe!" Ordered Kal-El again, "Meet us in the Watchtower, I'll send out the all League hail."

Nodding, Kara closed the channel and raced into the sky. She was the first to arrive on the Watchtower, and as she paced around the meeting room a new emotion began to steadily override her panic.

Anger.

Overwhelming, all-encompassing, blinding fury.

Someone had dared to touch him. Had dared to hurt him. Had dared to take him from her.

They would hurt.

They would suffer.

"Hey kid, you know what the emergency is all abou-whoah! Point the lasers at someone a little less squishy please!"

Green Arrow and Black Canary were the next to arrive at the meeting room. But as soon as Kara had turned her glare on the pair of them, and they had taken an apprehensive step back. Kara hadn't even realized that she had building up the power behind her laser vision. Arrow's words managed to penetrate her rage, and with a shake of her head, she managed to cool off a little.

"Sorry," she said, "It's just…Percy…someone's taken him."

"Fuck," breathed out Arrow. The League might not have been the closest group at times, but they were still well aware of the fact that Percy and Kara were together. The spouses and partners of members of the League were all but honorary members. Off limits, and when one of their own was put in the crosshairs then it was an attack on the League as a whole.

"He's made of stern stuff, Kara," said Canary, walking over and placing a reassuring hand on her shoulder.

"That's exactly what's worrying me," said Kara, "Percy is more than capable of taking care of himself, and then something like this happened."

"Anybody can be taken down if they're jumped when they're unprepared and unsuspecting," said Arrow, "Even half-gods."

Kara nodded, but her worry and panic didn't diminish in the least. The minutes ticked by, as one-by-one the rest of the League meandered into the meeting room. But as each one wandered into the room, they gave the worried and furious Kryptonian a wide berth.

Kara hadn't paid them any mind, her mind racing on who or what could have taken Percy. Was it something mystical or magical? Something that Percy had pissed off when he had been working as a supernatural hunter? Or was this because of her? Had someone figured out that he and Supergirl were together and had targeted him? Was it one of her enemies? Her mind ran through the list of the usual suspects. The most obvious was Lex Luthor, but kidnapping wasn't his style, not any more at least. The man had learned from his many failed attempts with Lois.

Metallo maybe? No, that didn't make any sense either. He was still disassembled and his consciousness had been uploaded to an ipod shuffle in Belle Reve.

A hand reached out and gripped her shoulder. Kara whirled around, but her furious expression melted as she met the equally fierce gaze of Wonder Woman.

"We'll find him," snarled Wonder Woman, and Kara's throat constricted painfully. She reached out and wrapped her arms around the older woman.

"I'm so sorry," Kara sobbed, "I-he…"

"You have nothing to be sorry about," said Wonder Woman fiercely, "There's nobody to blame but the sorry bastards responsible."

"He's not in Gotham," announced a low and monotonous voice from the door, and the hushed whispers petered out as Batman, Zatara, and Superman walked through the door.

"You took a look, Giovanni?" Asked Wonder Woman, breaking the embrace with Kara and turning to address the newcomers.

"Yes," nodded Zatara, "When Superman called me, my first instincts were that this was magical in nature. There aren't many who can handle a demigod."

Kara's eyes narrowed, flashing red dangerously. Giovanni, quick to notice his misspeak, quickly backpedaled,

"What I meant," he said hastily, "Is that there aren't many magical creatures that can take on a demigod in a fair fight."

"But this wasn't a fair fight," said Batman, striding over to the meeting table. Something clattered out of his hands, and a tangle of long chords clattered onto the surface. Kara walked over, and inspected the chords, her eyes narrowing,

"Tasers?" She said, her brow furrowed,

"Rated for over five-hundred thousand volts a piece," said Batman, "There were three of them."

Flash let out a low whistle, "That's enough to knock out an elephant,"

"But not Percy," said Superman, and Kara noticed a measure of pride in the man's expression, "We also found loose brick, and a tire iron. He must have been ambushed, slowed down by the tasers and knocked out by the others."

"There were at least three, probably more." Continued Batman, "Found three different blood samples in the alley. Traces of stomach bile and urine as well." He swiped his hand over a small panel on the meeting table and a holographic keyboard appeared on the table as the monitor at the other end of the room sprang to life.

"I've been running the DNA through several databases, but so far, we haven't gotten a hit, we're going to need-" He trailed off, and he appeared as though he was listening to something inside his cowl, before pressing a hand to the side of his cowl,

"Robin, not now, go back to-" He stopped again, his eyes narrowing, "Track the signal and jam it, mitigate the damage but send the transmission to me."

Kara frowned, and shared a confused look with Wonder Woman. She shrugged, unsure of what the Caped Crusaders new young ward had called about. A moment later, they go their answer. A video appeared on the monitor, and a new wave of fear and rage washed over her.

There were five figures, all men judging by their stature. They were dressed professionally, all clad in black fatigues with equally black balaclavas covering their faces. They were in a dark room, it was impossible to discern their surroundings from the darkened video but there was one thing that Kara could make out clear as day.

In the center frame of the camera, flanked by two men on either side and one more behind him, was Percy. His head might have been covered by a cloth sack, but even over the shoddy camera feed, Kara could make out the small branding on his right arm in the shape of a trident. His hands were bound behind the chair he was sat in, and there was thick, coiled rope wrapped around his ankles. He was still dressed in his suit for work, though it looked far more the worse for wear. The knees of his pants were ripped and torn, and his knees were scraped and bleeding. His shirt was stained with blood, sweat, and the grime of a city street.

There were two men standing in front of Percy, just in the corner's of the frame. As Kara examined the screen however, she noticed something. Two of the men were holding their stomachs, and standing at awkward angles. As though they were trying to nurse rather substantial injuries.

One of the men standing in front of the camera began speaking,

"This is a message for Supergirl of the Justice League. We have your boyfriend." At the cue, the man behind Percy ripped the cloth mask off his head, revealing a bruised and bloodied face. Percy's right way was turning an ugly shade of purple, and was so swollen that Kara was certain he couldn't see out of it. His lip was split, and his nose was broken. Blood dripped from his nostrils, and pooled into a miniature pond on the floor.

"If you want him back, alive and well, then you will need to send fifty million dollars to a location later to be determined. You will have four hours, for every hour after that we will-"

He was interrupted as Percy let out a low groan, as he roused back to consciousness.

"What the fuck…" he groaned, "I feel like I just got backhanded by Hyperion and shocked by Thalia all at the same time." He looked up, his surroundings finally coming into focus around him,

"Oh what the fuck is this?" He groaned,

"Quiet!" Hissed the man behind him, as he punched Percy in the back of his head.

"Dick!" Percy hissed,

"As you can see Supergirl," Continued the original speaker, "For now he can talk, but I can't promise that-"

"Oh you've got to be fucking kidding me," groaned Percy, rolling his eye, "That's what this is about? Were you guys hit over the head when you were young, or are you really just that stupid?"

"Excuse me?" Said the lead kidnapper,

"Ignoring the world of shit you've stepped in," continued Percy, "Let's just think about this plan of yours. First, let me just say that it's a big ass leap in logic ya'll have made here. I've met Supergirl a grand total of one fucking time, once, and you think that makes me her boyfriend? What have you been smoking?"

Kara was torn between crying and laughing.

"Well, he's certainly got a mouth on him," muttered Arrow,

"But we'll just gloss over the utter lunacy it would take to believe that Supergirl would be dating a history teacher for prep kids in Gotham," Percy had built up a full head of steam, and the kidnappers were just along for the ride.

"Your plan, your brilliant plan, is to kidnap the man you believe is dating Supergirl. Supergirl. Easily tied for the most powerful-fucking beings not just on the planet but in the entire damn galaxy. A woman who can level a mountain with a single punch, and can melt through steel with a single look. Your plan is to kidnap the man she's dating and ransom him off?"

Two of the kidnappers shifted from one foot to the other, exchanging quick glances with one another. A third man cautiously looked up, as though expecting the Girl of Steel to burst through the ceiling at any moment.

"Ya'll know she's in the Justice League right?" Said Percy, "You know, with her cousin, Superman? And Wonder Woman, and all of those other Capes that could probably take over the world if they really wanted to."

Someone in the meeting room snorted, and in spite of herself, Kara giggled.

"But ignoring all of that—ignoring literally all of that—pissing off a very worried and potentially very protective Supergirl is the very least of your concerns." They must have been in an old warehouse of some kind, because the old boilers in the corner of the room suddenly began to creak and groan. Off in the distance, there was a muted crack of thunder as Percy's eyes began to glow with power.

"Oh boy," sighed Wonder Woman, "This is going to be ugly,"

"Should we…like…do something about this?" Asked Shazam in concern, "I mean, I know he's dating Supergirl and all that…but he's just a guy right?"

"It's not Jackson we should be worried about," grumbled Batman as he rapidly typed onto the keyboard.

Almost as if on cue, the cuffs around Percy's hands snapped and Percy blurred into motion. His arms shot up, as his hands wrapped around the necks of the two men beside him and tugged down. As though yanked down by anchors, the two men were thrown bodily to the ground, landing face-first into the ground. The other men in the room didn't even have a chance to react, as Percy broke the restraints around his ankles and stood up. His foot kicked out and smacked into the chair which flew backwards. The chair slammed into the man behind Percy, who had just begun to charge forward. With a yelp of surprise, the man tumbled over the back of the chair as Percy twisted around and grabbed the falling man around the nape of the neck.

With a roar, Percy spun on his foot and tossed the now screaming man into the lead speaker. The pair collapsed in a heap of tangled limbs on the ground as Percy bore down on the final man who was struggling to pull a pistol free from his side-holster. Percy's fist jabbed out as quick as lightning, catching the man in the solar-plexus. All of the wind left the man's lungs in one burst. Percy grabbed the back of the man's balaclava, digging his fingers into the rough fabric. Tugging the man forward, Percy leveled hook after hook into the man's temple until he crumpled to the ground.

Spinning on his heel, Percy raced out of the view of the camera frame, but in the direction of where they saw the two other kidnappers fall. The couldn't see what was happening, but judging by the yelps of pain, and the cries for mercy, Kara could imagine what was happening. Abruptly, one of the men let out a shrill screech as he was sent flying through the frame of the camera, landing painfully on the side of his neck on the ground.

"Gah, you stupid son of a bitch!" Cried out the leader, followed by the sound of three gunshots, the light from the shots illuminating the dark room. But a moment later, the man let out a shrill scream as the sound of bones snapping reverberated around the room. Several members of the League winced in unison,

"Woof…been there," muttered Arrow, "That's not gonna be pretty,"

The room fell silent, aside from the soft patter of feet as Percy came back into frame. He looked none the worse for wear, aside from the look of mild annoyance.

He tapped the screen,

"This thing still working? Great. If you Justice League guys are hearing this, think you could come and pick me up?"
