We start the search for Carlisle and Esme in this chapter, which I think some people might be looking forward to so here we go! Enjoy!

"Are you ready for this?" I asked her, again. I hated that we had to do this and put her through the burning pain, but it was the only way to test her.

"Yeah," she answered, "Let's get it over with."

I ran out to the car to grab the items I had taken when I was in town and brought them back inside, expecting Bella to pounce on me the moment she smelt them. I gingerly opened the newly repaired door, waiting for the chaos to begin, but the scent must not have reached her yet. I could smell the human scent from the items and it caused a slight burn in my throat, the same as it did when I was around humans, but for a newborn like Bella it should drive her crazy.

Entering the house and watching for Bella's reaction, I was surprised when she stayed standing at the other side of the room. Our sense of smell is very sensitive and I couldn't understand how she hadn't picked up the scent yet.

"Are you okay?" I asked, not moving any closer to her yet.

"I think so," she answered, hesitantly, "I can smell their scent, and its causing a slight burn in my throat, but I feel in control." I stared at her in shock. I didn't have a lot of experience with newborns, but I knew my own and Esme's experience and it was nothing like this. If I had been around a human's scent after only a few weeks, I would have torn the house apart to find the source of that scent.

I walked closer to Bella, holding the items out in front of me, wondering if maybe somehow Bella's sense of smell was weaker than mine, but she stayed standing still completely in control until I was standing right in front of her.

"You don't feel desperate to feed?" I questioned, "You feel in control?"

"I feel fine," she replied, "I mean I can feel the burn and I could feed, but I don't feel out of control. That's weird, right? Another of those one off things that seem to be so common with me?"

"Yeah," I chuckled, "But it just means you are amazing! You're control is perfect, as though you've been a vampire for years. We'll have to test you around actual humans, but it seems like you won't have any trouble with it."

"I wonder if it has anything to do with your shield," I pondered, "Maybe it shields you from the thirst too."

"Does that mean we can look for Carlisle and Esme soon?" she asked, excitedly.

"I don't see why not," I said, smiling at how excited she was about meeting them. I was still quite nervous about it. I had been away for so long and so much had happened. I still wasn't convinced that they hadn't just moved on and forgotten about me. I couldn't imagine that they wouldn't love Bella though and I hoped that they would at least welcome her, even if they were disappointed in me.

I sat down on the sofa and Bella came to sit beside me. She must have seen in my eyes that something was bothering me, as she turned my face to look into my eyes.

"You're still worried about seeing them again?" she guessed. I nodded, unable to voice my fears out loud.

"They are going to be so happy to see you, I just know it," she said, looking deep into my eyes.

"I don't even know how to start looking for them. They could be anywhere," I said, "We could end up on a wild goose chase."

"Well, at least we'll have an adventure," she smirked at me, "Don't stress about it. Whatever happens, we'll always have each other. You never have to be alone again." She always knew exactly what to say and I once again found myself thinking about how perfect she was for me.

We had tested out Bella's control by taking a few trips into town, starting with one late at night, just in case. Her control was just as good as mine and she never seemed out of control at any point, so we went ahead with our plans.

We talked about how we might go about starting to look for Carlisle and Esme. I had no idea where they could be living now and I didn't really know where to start. Bella suggested going back to where they were living when I was with them last and seeing if there were any clues there. We had been living in a house in Rochester when I left them. We weren't actually too far from Rochester, an 8 hour drive, so it seemed like a good place to start, though I knew it hadn't been long enough for them to be back living there again.

We packed a few bags of clothes, not knowing how long we would be gone, but left most of our stuff behind at the cabin. As I sat behind the wheel of the Volvo, the reality of what we were about to do hit me and I lay my head on the steering wheel.

"We don't have to do this, if you're not ready," Bella said softly, rubbing her hand along my back.

"I know," I sighed, "I really want to see them again, but I'm worried about their reaction. Or what if I get my hopes up and we can't even find them. They could be anywhere. They might not even be in the country."

"We have forever to look for them, baby," she said, "We'll find them. It's your decision. If you want to wait and go another time, then we will, but I really think this is something you need to do."

"I know, and I'm ready," I said, sitting up and starting the engine, "Let's go. I'm almost certain they won't be at the Rochester house anyway. This is only the beginning of the search."

The drive would take around 8 hours and we spent the first few hours chatting and talking about where we might go after Rochester if we couldn't find any information. There were a few other houses that I knew of that we could check out, but after they ran out I wasn't sure what else we could do.

After a few hours of driving, Bella's hand drifted over to my leg, her fingers tracing circles on my thigh just on the inside of my knee. I raised an eyebrow at her and she smirked at me, her fingers inching slowly up my leg.

"Bella," I warned, as her hand cupped my shaft through my jeans.

"I seem to remember you saying that you could concentrate on many things at once," she purred, "Do I really need to stop?"

I looked at her out of the corner of my eye, my breath hitching as she continued to rub me over my trousers, and shook my head. I was capable of concentrating on many things at once as I had told her the last time we were on a long journey in the car, but that was when she was the one receiving pleasure. This time might be a little different, but I didn't have it in me to stop her.

Slowly, she lowered my zipper and freed me from the confines of my jeans and underwear. I was already rock hard and the feel of her hands on my length was amazing. She began moving her hands up and down over my erection, swiping her thumb over the tip when she reached it, catching the liquid that had seeped out. She put her thumb to her lips and sucked it into her mouth, moaning at the taste.

"I need more," she purred, taking off her seatbelt and leaning over the seat until her head was hovering just above me. She breathed out, her hot breath flowing over my erection causing it to twitch in anticipation. I gasped when she took me fully into her mouth, sucking her cheeks in as she moved her mouth up and down my length. I struggled to keep my eyes open and on the road with the sensations she was causing in me, but somehow I managed. There weren't many other cars and it was a fairly straight road so there wasn't a lot of thinking involved, thankfully.

Watching her head bob up and down over me, as I continued to drive along the highway, was so erotic and I could tell that Bella was enjoying it, as the car was filling with the scent of her arousal.

"Oh, God, Bella, I can smell how much you enjoy that," I groaned.

I fucking love the taste of you, she thought to me. The combination of hearing her thoughts, hearing her curse and the sensations she was causing with her mouth were all too much for me and I came, hard, spilling into her mouth, with a loud growl, while gripping hard on the steering wheel. She swallowed everything I gave her before sitting up and licking her lips.

"Now what are we going to do about you, baby?" I crooned, preparing to find somewhere to pull over.

"Don't worry, if you're too busy driving, baby," she uttered, running her hand slowly up her bare legs towards the bottom of her skirt. When her hand dipped under her skirt, I hissed, watching as she went higher and higher. I was struggling more now to keep my eyes on the road than before, but I was managing it. Her fingers reached her underwear that was almost certainly soaked and she pulled it to the side before dipping her fingers into her folds. Her finger circled her sensitive bundle of nerves as she writhed around on the seat and when the first moan escaped her lips, I could no longer handle it.

I pulled off onto the nearest side road and found a secluded spot within seconds. Her hands stilled when I stopped the car and turn to look at her, my eyes certainly jet black with desire.

"Don't stop," I growled, "That is so hot, baby. Make yourself come."

She turned herself around, giving me a better view of what she was doing and I groaned as she circled her clit again. She threw her head back, as she inserted two fingers into her hot core, the heel of her hand rubbing against her bundle of nerves. I wanted to touch her so badly, but I also wanted to see her make herself come so I held back, my hands palming my erection to try to relieve some of the pressure. Her panting quickened and I could tell she was getting close, still pumping her fingers in and out of herself as she moaned inarticulately.

"Fuck!" she screamed as she came all over her own hand. I lifted her out of her seat, pulling her onto my knee before she had even come down from her high. I ripped her underwear away from her body before slamming her down over my erection. Another orgasm rocked her body at the feeling of me filling her whilst her body was still coming down from her last orgasm. I lifted Bella up and down over my arousal, that was painfully hard after watching her pleasure herself, and it only took a few thrusts until I was spilling my load into her with a loud groan.

A few hours later, we pulled up outside the house that had been my home many years ago. It hadn't changed much in the years that had passed. Memories flooded my mind at the sight of it and suddenly I couldn't wait to see Carlisle and Esme again.

I was still feeling nervous about their reaction, but I no longer had the niggling feeling that I was doing the wrong thing by trying to find them. I really missed them. They were the closest thing I had to parents since my own had died and, though I felt shame at having left them so long ago and never returned, I was really hoping that we would be able to find them.

I took a deep breath and looked over at Bella, who was waiting patiently to see my reaction to the house.

"I'm okay," I assured her, "Seeing this house again after all these years brought back a lot of memories, good memories."

"Take your time, baby," she said, "There's no rush. Take all the time you need. We'll go in whenever you're ready."

We sat in silence for a few minutes, while I gathered my thoughts. Bella sat patiently, waiting, and I never felt like she was rushing me or getting impatient. She was amazing, always knowing exactly what I needed.

"I'm ready," I told her, "Well, as ready as I'll ever be."

We didn't usually rent out houses when we weren't living in them, just in case we needed a quick getaway from somewhere, but I listened carefully, making sure there was no one in the house, in case that had changed in the time I'd been away. It was empty, and though I had been certain that Carlisle and Esme wouldn't be here, I was still a little disappointed that I wouldn't be seeing them today.

We walked up to the front door, making sure that no one was watching us. The last thing we needed was a nosey neighbour calling the police on us. I discretely snapped the lock and opened the door. I'd make sure to fix the lock before leaving again, but it was my only way into the house.

The very faint scent of Carlisle and Esme assaulted me as soon as I opened the door. They hadn't been here in a long time, but I could still pick up their very faint lingering scent. I closed the door quickly behind us, before sitting down on the floor, my back to the door as tearless sobs wracked my body.

Bella sat down on the floor beside me, pulling me into her chest and rubbing my back. She didn't talk or ask questions, she just let me cry in her arms. She just understood that I needed to get it all out, so she just held me, letting me know silently that she was there for me. It took a few minutes for my sobs to settle down and even when they did, we sat there in the same position, Bella still holding me and rubbing my back.

"I'm sorry," I whispered, when I could finally speak again.

"Don't you dare apologise, baby," she scolded gently, "You never need to apologise for your feelings. I know, this is going to be hard for you and I'll sit on the floor and hold you any time you need."

I looked up into her eyes, before kissing her deeply. She was truly the most wonderful person I had ever met. I wondered how I had ever lived without her. Pulling away from her lips, I stood up, pulling her with me.

"Let's have a look around," I said, taking her hand and walking through the hall into the living room. Everything looked exactly as I remembered it, the furniture all sitting in the same place as the day I had walked out. Everything seemed clean, not covered in dust like I expected. They must have had someone come in and clean every so often.

I walked over to the grand piano that still stood pride of place, running my hand along the top, thinking of all the times I had played for Esme here.

"Esme loved to hear me play," I told Bella, "It calmed her when she was a newborn and was feeling out of control. I composed her song at this very piano. She insisted that we have a piano in every house, said she needed to be able to hear me play."

"That's something we definitely have in common," Bella said, wrapping her arms around me from behind. She was a good few inches shorter than me so it should have been the other way round, but I felt so loved and comforted with her arms wrapped around me like that.

We took our time going through the whole house and I told Bella stories as the memories came to me. She was fascinated by every story I told her, telling me that it was helping her get to know Carlisle and Esme and that she felt like she already knew them.

When we got to the room that was mine when I lived here, I found a trunk full of my personal belongings that I had left behind. I sat on the bed with the trunk on my knee and Bella sat facing me.

"You don't have to open it now," she said quietly, "We can always take it with us when we leave and you can open it when you're ready."

"I'm ready now," I assured her, "I already know everything that's in here. I want to show you."

I placed the trunk on the bed between us, before opening it. Inside was full of mementos of my human days, along with a few things I had picked up as a vampire. I carefully picked up a couple of photographs.

"These are my parents," I explained, handing the first picture over for her to look at. It was a picture from my parent's wedding.

"Wow," she gasped, "You look just like your mother!"

"Yeah, everyone always said that," I said, "I had her hair and eye colour too. Green," I added when she looked up at me curiously.

"I would have loved to have seen you as a human," she sighed, wistfully.

"Well, you won't be able to see my eye colour," I started, "but this was me as a human." I handed over the other picture of myself. "I was around 15 or 16 when it was taken, a few years before my 'death'," I added.

"You were very handsome, even as a human," she said, staring intently at the photograph in her hand.

We looked through the rest of the trunk. There were a few old baseball cards I had collected with my father. They were probably worth a lot of money now, though I would never sell them. There were a few sheets of music that I had played when I was a human learning to play the piano with my mother. I lifted out a jewellery box that held all my mother's jewellery I had kept. Opening it, I carefully pulled out a silver locket that held a small picture of myself. I opened it and held it out to show Bella.

"My mother wore this everyday, always saying how she loved keeping me close to her heart," I told Bella.

"It's beautiful," she gasped.

"I want you to have it," I said, standing up from the bed and walking round to put it on her neck.

"Oh, I couldn't..." she began, but I cut her off.

"Yes, you could," I told her, "I want you to have it. It would make me very happy to see you wearing it. Please."

"If you're sure," she said, looking down at the locket around her neck, "It really is beautiful. Thank you, Edward. I'll treasure it for ever. I will love having you close to my heart, too, though you're always there anyway." She turned round, pulling me down to kiss her.

It was getting dark by the time we made it through the whole house and we settled down on the sofa in the living room. I couldn't take my eyes off the locket. I loved seeing a piece of my human life on her. I couldn't wait until she was also wearing the other piece of jewellery I had for her still hidden away in the glove compartment. I just hadn't found the right time to ask her yet.

So far we hadn't found anything that might give us a clue to where Carlisle and Esme were living now and I had to admit I was a little disappointed at that, though I didn't really know what I expected to find.

"Oh," Bella exclaimed, "What's that?" She stood up walking over towards the fireplace, bending down and pulling something from behind a small table.

I gasped, as she walked over to me and handed me an envelope with my name written on the front in perfect handwriting. Handwriting that I would recognise anywhere.

"That's Esme's handwriting," I whispered, staring at the envelope as though it might disappear. Nerves began to rise in me. Who knows what this letter might say? Take your things and leave? Never look for us, we want nothing more to do with you?

Bella sat down next to me, gently placing her hand on my thigh. My thoughts were obviously written all over my face.

"You'll never know unless you open it," she told me gently. "Stop thinking of the worst case scenario and read the letter." I nodded, turning the envelope over in my hands and carefully ripping it open. I took a deep breath, before taking the letter out of the envelope. It smelled like Esme, vanilla mixed with jasmine.

Dear Edward,

It doesn't matter to us how much time has passed before
you read this letter, you will always be our son.

It doesn't matter what has happened in the time since
you left us, you will always be our son.

We both miss you terribly and we really hope that some
day, you will make your way back to us.

Please come home to us.

Love,
Esme and Carlisle

I stared at the letter in shock, unable to speak, then I handed to over to Bella, who read it quickly, a smile spreading over her face.

"I knew they missed you," she said, folding the letter back up carefully and placing it on the coffee table, before wrapping her arms around me again.
