Shoutout to DARK WRAITH 2001 for getting the tributes right!
Now for the reaping of district 5...
District 5
Thalia wasn't the least bit shocked when she heard her name called by the escort from that dumb Capital.
It was a common rumor that the tributes weren't as 'randomly selected' as the Capital made it seem to be. Her parents had been killed just under a year ago for making plans to sabotage the capital. Zeus and Beryl Grace lead a group of many other people from district 5 and were publicly executed for attempting to kill the president. With Thalia and her little brother Jason being the children of the leaders of that group, the capital obviously saw them as a threat. The capital couldn't just execute them too, though. No, they had to make it look like they had just been picked randomly. Thailia was thinking about how stupid the Capital must think they are, to not realize the reaping was completely unfair. She looked at the jar full of the boys' names, knowing her brother's name was written on every single one of them.
Jason was already half was to the stage when the escort read his name, as if he and everyone here didn't already know this year's tributes were going to be him and his sister. Everyone knew it, they did since the 25 district five citizens, with his father in the front, were hung publicly in front of everyone. Including Jason and Thalia.
When Jason stepped onto the stage, he saw Thalia not standing, but sitting criss-cross applesauce on the wood floor. Seems about right, Jason thought. Of course, Thalia would not just stand there like any normal tribute from district 5, looking out into the crowd with a scared expression. Thalia was, to a certain extent, like their parents, but she was not the type to go running off trying to kill the president. She was more the type to just not listen to the Capital, but in a way that was just as dangerous.
Anyway, Jason walked onto the stage and took a seat on the floor next to his sister.
"Um," the escort said awkwardly, looking at them. "The tributes of district 5."
Thalia gave a sarcastic wave to the crowd, then looked at Jason. She then rolled her eyes and smiled. Jason always had admired her ability to not take things too seriously, or at least pretend to, even when it came to things like the Hunger Games.
The peacekeepers obviously didn't want them sitting up on that stage for too long in front of the people, so they came and guided them to the Justice Building and placed them in separate rooms. Jason did not want to leave his sister, but he knew he would have plenty of time over the next few days to talk to her. But the question was, how many days did they have left before the game makers got rid of them, just like they had gotten rid of their parents?
There's chapter 5. Thanks for reading, and I'll see you for the reaping of district 6!
