The sound of the craft's engines echoed within the cabin, being almost the only thing that could be heard really, well apart from Doctor Oobleck sipping from his flask.
The introduction of both teams to one another had been brief as their group were the first to jettison from Beacon since they had a long way to travel.
Therefore, according to their teachers, getting formally acquainted with each other would have to be done once on the field.

"Alright students pay close attention as I'm only going to say this once.
We have been assigned a cooperative mission with team RWBY and professor Port.
It will be taking us to the very South of Vale, where we have received a distress call from a mining crew who were just barely able to fend off a horde of Grimm.
Our job will be to survey the surrounding area before the mines to intercept any Grimm that might make their way to the mining station, so we'll rely heavily on watching each other's backs during the entirety of this mission."

"So why don't we just land at the mining station and defend it there?
We'd be better secured and those tuggers should be able to lend us dust if our own stock runs low."
Sivi responded, sounding a little irked that they had to fight yet again in the open with little more than surrounding trees for protection.

"Well Mr. Noir, between the time of their distress call and this mission, the mining operation has already fortified their defences as well as hired hunters and huntresses that are quite capable to adapt to the needed situation.
All without relying on handouts or compensation for doing their job, as you may put it."

"But if there are already huntsmen situated at the station, why are we getting involved?"

"Those huntsmen are to remain garrisoned at the station to deal with any Grimm that might circumvent our small group, they will only provide assistance to us if it is the absolute last resort.
This assignment of ours is mainly a training exercise for you students to help you better adapt both to larger scale missions that you may be required to undertake for large organisations like this.
But it also serves the purpose of teaching you to coordinate effectively with a team other than your own, you never know when out there you may have to give direction to others or you yourself need to be directed by someone else.
It never hurts to be presented with both a variety of scenarios and people with differing strategies to the same problem.
And just going back to your previous statement, this mining operation may harvest dust, but it's mainly sourcing raw metals that will be refined and sent for further processing.
So with that query resolved, are there any further questions before we reach the drop off point?
Mr Discovery?"

"… "

"Mr. Discovery,were you paying attention?"

"Wha- oh yes sir, we're dropping short of the mining station and preventing any hordes of Grimm from further attacking the miners, both teams are to watch each other's backs and stay alert at all times."
Zen replied as he was pulled away from his thoughts.
From where he sat, he was able to see the opposing bullhead which matched their speed.
Given that its occupants were clearly visible from the open bay doors, his allies had just been given the same briefing.
As he looked back, he felt a shiver run up his spine as he made eye contact with lilac eyes, a second later, his senses reassured him someone was seated next to him, he felt himself relax as he turned to face the red head as she addressed him.

"Nervous?" Penny asked, following where his gaze was a second ago before looking directly at him.

"Yep, if there were a better word, I'd have used it by now." He sighed.

"I know you're worried about what might happen between you and Yang while we're out here, she has been known to lose her cool quickly.
But Ruby has assured me that during a mission, any mission, she will prioritise it over anything else.
So it is paramount for you to do so as well, don't let the fear of her attacking you get in the way of your combat effectiveness."

"I guess you're right, the fact we're all here on this mission gives me a sense of uneasiness, and not just because of Yang.
It feels more ambitious than our last one, from a simple recon mission to now potentially holding back the grimm to protect a major asset."

"Well you have us at least, although Ciel and Sivi have already said it to you, I'll reiterate, they find you a worthy addition to the team since you proved to them you were capable since the last mission, especially when we had to answer the distress call beforehand."

"I mean, I was just proud knowing that I was able to walk away from that ordeal in one piece. Thanks for having my back all the same."

"Any time." She replied happily.

"I wonder how well he's going to cope during this mission?"
Yang sneered as she could see Zen turn to face Penny in their craft.
"Probably gonna be hiding behind Penny while she does the real fighting."
She muttered as she gave one last look before resuming her task of manually loading shells into Ember Celica on her left hand.

"Yang could you just cut it out, we're nearly there and I expect you to stay focused during the mission, we have enough trouble with the fact we're miles from Beacon without you doing something reckless as a result of being fixated on Zen.
And so the only people we have to rely on for support are either those at the mines, who will only assist us if we are essentially overrun by grimm, which then will take time for them to get to us…
Or the people on that ship.
So please, reserve all that frustration for the grimm, forget what the three of us talked about last night and let's just get this mission done smoothly."
Weiss replied, though whispering that last part as she spun the barrel of Myrtenaster, inspecting each chamber before loading it.

Somehow she felt like a total idiot to think that their talk last night wouldn't end up with the three of them becoming more worried about Zen than they previously did.
It didn't help anyone when Ruby came back just at the height of their conversation as cheerful as she was, not even reading the room.
Failing to realise what she had said while she had been actively barred from seeing Zen and especially oblivious to their reactions to the news, she was sure Yang's hair ignited slightly.
Perhaps with more time, thoughts might have shifted to more logical explanations… but still, though abstract their ideas were, there was no denying what Zen had said to her, Blake and Yang…
Could he have done it on purpose, in the hope they figured it out… or was Yang somehow right in that it was just a way he was psychologically messing with them.

Last night the three girls were left speechless really wondering if they should say anything to Ruby right then and there, but unanimously chose not to.
And once the hood wearer went to take a shower, they continued where they left off.

"Did you see her? As if what I said to her never happened?" Yang asked while somewhat stunned.

"Well can you really fault her considering as I said, it wouldn't last.
Just like when you get all excited over the weekend only for it to then roll around to class once again and you act like you just didn't spend the time off. Weiss reasoned.

"That can't be right?" The blonde muttered.

"Nope, says so right here. Team RWBY and Team SPCZ." Blake confirmed, holding up her scroll so the other two could clearly see in bold white text the team pairing.

"So what do we do about tomorrow?" Yang asked once she pulled away from the view of the scroll.

"The same thing as we do whenever we go on a mission.
Listen to our professor, do what is required of us, get the job done and then come home." Weiss simply stated.

"Really just like that? You're not even going to question him- "

"Yang… we are huntresses first and foremost. Our duty is to whoever needs our help and we will do just that.
The question about Zen will come, but not when it could jeopardise the safety of others… and that includes Zen.

"What about Ruby? Do we tell her?"

"No, I don't want to say anything until we have more concrete information."
Or else if we did tell her… depending on who told her, it could ultimately backfire as she would think it was just another way for us to prevent her from seeing Zen further.

"Besides, Penny said that he did very well on their mission last week.
Also before they could even get to their actual mission, there was a distress call they had to answer.
Long story short, Penny and Zen had to be left behind in order to get everyone else back to safety, so Zen used his semblance which helped them evade a swooping nevermore."
Ruby spoke up nervously, as she tried to diffuse the visible tension that seemed to arise between Weiss and Yang, which only received a glare from the latter.

"Well that's interesting, I thought he couldn't generate an aura?"
Blake chimed in, doing her best to both support her leader and to ensure she forgot the way her older sister was responding to her.

"He still can't." She replied, seemingly appearing to appreciate Blake's diversion.

"Then how does he have a semblance without aura?
And what is his semblance?" Blake simply played dumb with her question.
Since Ruby had only told Weiss about what Zen's semblance actually was. Though I do remember her coming back from one of their sparring sessions and telling him he needed to use his semblance sparingly, since it may affect his physical stamina.
Think that was when Yang asked Zen where he lived.

As Ruby was about to answer, she was cut off by a stern professor Port, who was standing above the seated students, addressing them in his usual confident manner.
"You can finish your discussion once we're flying home to Beacon, now however, we're nearing the drop zone.
So I will need you four to listen up.
Professor, how do you copy?"

"Doctor!"
They heard Oobleck respond through their own earpieces amidst the background hum of the opposing bullhead's engines.
"I'm reading you loud and clear.
Are your students prepped and ready?"

"Yes they are, plenty of talk amongst them so they should be more than fine to fight.
If they can fight with half the energy they use to talk then we'll be-"

"Sirs, sorry to cut you both off, but sensors are picking up movement of Grimm below, moving faster than usual.
So the drop off will have to be a fast one or else you'll drop right on top of them, we'll be nearby if the situation gets too hot, over and out."
The pilot of Port's bullhead interrupted, both parties of students stiffening up upon mention of a potentially early descent.

"Alright you heard her, we are dropping in on a Grimm cross kingdom race, so be ready for a quick assault on their part."
Port yelled as everyone was nearly deafened from their earpieces.
The callout by both teachers to their respective students to drop was quick and sudden.
Team RWBY were the first on the ground, SPCZ following right behind, Zen staying close to Penny as she once again guided him on the landing strategy.
The sound of the stampede growing closer, yet seemed to be dying down in speed, as if they could sense danger.
Then, silence, the echoes of the crafts were the only things that could be heard but soon faded away as they gained more distance between the group.
The sole sound of earth being tread on then broke the silence, as a lone Grimm could be barely seen in the distance.
Followed a minute or so later by more Grimm which fell behind the leader further back.
As the leading Grimm slowly drew nearer, the teams slightly shifted in their stance as it became clearer to make out.

"What… are those things?"
Yang asked, clenching her fists at the ready, the slight quiver in her voice told Zen that this fight wasn't going to be as simple as his last.
If the adventure seeker who never displayed a sense of fear from Grimm was now hesitant, then his focus must not falter in the slightest.

"Dunno. Never seen Grimm like that before, but they're sure going to die just like the rest of 'em."
Sivi promptly replied beside her as he drew his weapon to eye level before pulling the charging handle.

The Grimm that was first to appear and make havoc amongst the organised students was similar in appearance to a beowolf, but was much larger and had the head of a jackal.
It reared up its head and gave a deathly howl, calling for its brethren to the fight.
In doing this, its arms reached up towards its boney chest and pulled with all its might, tearing of flesh could be barely heard as it held a rib on either side of its paws after completing the action, much to the horror and confusion of everyone but the professors.

"Students, use long range attacks on it!
Do not go close quarters with it or it will be the end of you, less you keep your guard up at all times!
Only strike when you can be sure it's safe to!"
Port yelled.
No sooner as he said it, the lead Jackal Grimm, still several metres away, made an aggressive leap towards Weiss.
Using her glyphs, she made a shield above her so that the Grimm would land on top rather than on its initial target. As it landed on the snowflake shaped ethereal barrier, it began swinging its ribs like they were a pair of sickles, hacking away at the wall between them.
Sivi's rifle could be heard as it spat out several shots directed towards the Grimm, simply taking no notice as it snarled at Weiss from its heightened position.

Several more of these jackal grimm who had held back, now showed similar signs of rage as they began to advance and just like the first, they sprang into action with their morbid weapons drawn, ready to cut anything in their way.
Seeing this, the teachers rushed forward, while half of each team broke formation as part of the advanced assault.
Leaving only Zen, Ruby, Blake and Ciel to deal with the new threats which were slowly emerging from the forest.
Amongst the newly dubbed 'jackals' came two Chimera Grimm.
Six pairs of yellow eyes focused on Zen before the creature then charged towards its prey, arms stretched out ready to pounce.
Zen instinctively rolled out of the way at the last minute when it was within striking distance, his cape nearly being caught by the enormous paws as they made contact with the ground.

As he got back up, he could hear it roar in its failure, the snake for a tail then turned to face him, large fangs gleaming in the sun.
He was frozen in place as he watched as its head reared up slightly, mouth opening even wider, as it came down fire emanated from the maw.
He was about to roll out of its path, but at that moment, he was carried away by a blur of red, leaving a trail of roses to get singed where he stood moments ago.

"Okay, so it breathes fire as well as being nightmare fuel."
Zen sarcastically said while catching his breath as he glanced over to Ruby who, after putting him down, had already fired several shots at the Grimm, with only a few making any visible damage as it appeared to be stunned slightly.

His focus then shifted towards Ciel and Blake, who were working together to try and take down their own Grimm.
Blake used Gambol Shroud as a whip, letting the weapon fly past the goat head, then firing so its blade raced along the goats neck, causing the Chimera to falter in its stance.
Ciel, with her knife in pistol form, was taking shots at the snake tail, trying to get it between the eyes.

"We need to go for the back first and work our way forward, it might be only then can we get close enough."
Zen said as Ruby reloaded her sniper.

"Alright, sounds like it's worth a shot."

"You've already taken several and that thing is just taking no notice of them, plus we need to conserve ammo if we need to deal with more of those Jackal Grimm.
I'll distract it, when you know it's lost all focus on you, use the chance to attack it."

She nodded in response, and with that, Zen ran around the Chimera, firing several inaccurate shots at it. Sensing that its prey was trying to run, the lion's eyes started to glow as its paws brushed against the soil ready to charge.
This time as it leapt forward, it was successful in landing on its target, Zen held his crossed swords in front of him in order to hold it back, while he used a tree behind him acting as a brace.

The snake's head reared up behind the lion's body, its forked tongue flickered as it slowly opened its mouth ready to envelope its victim in flames once again.
In less than a minute a streak of red flew right behind it, the sound of flesh being cut could be heard and a hurtful roar deafened Zen as the lion and the goat turned to see that their tail was now but a severed stub.

With it distracted, Zen made a clean slice to the goat, the lion catching its second head falling off right in front of it.
As it was about to claw at Zen in vengeance, Ruby's scythe tore at its torso.
The large mass slowly evaporated a minute later once it lifelessly collapsed to the ground.

Before the two could sigh in relief, another roar could be heard coming from within the forest, this time much louder than the Chimera or the jackal's.
This definitely appeared to be the alpha Grimm as it came into view, with more jackal Grimm following behind it.
Rearing its head it gave another roar that caused a nearby tree to shudder violently from the vibrations from the visible ripples that now permeated the air.

With no Grimm nearby enough to strike at any of them, Yang, Blake, Sivi, Ciel Ruby and Zen aimed their weapons and fired, taking out several of the jackal Grimm before they were able to pull out their boned weapons.
Yang and Sivi then focused fire on the alpha, several shots making direct contact with it…
But nothing happened, rounds hitting their target simply ricocheted off of the creature.

"It's a Nemean Grimm, take cover before it roars again."
Port yelled as his axe clashed with another jackals' bone weaponry.

Before anyone could react, the Nemean Grimm roared again, focusing on Sivi, who was flung several metres from where he stood, as he lay on the ground slightly disoriented, all perception of sound gone.
Quickly regaining his sense of direction though as a jackal Grimm who had managed to leap past everyone brought its ribs down on him.

Using his rifle to block the attack, he held on, but was feeling the entire weight of the Grimm behind its weapons pushing down against him.
That was until it was sent flying as Yang dashed towards it, firing a shot right into its skull as her fist made contact.
She then picked up Sivi and held him by placing his arm over her shoulder as she helped him up, carrying him to a nearby boulder away from the immediate fight, guarding him until he felt he was ready to continue.

Penny, Weiss, Doctor Oobleck and Professor Port were holding off against a large portion of the jackals while trying not to get caught by the shockwave that was the Nemean Grimm's roar, separating themselves from the group as the jackals were becoming more aggressive as their numbers dwindled. The other few jackals that weren't engaged with the four set their sights on Yang and Sivi, sensing the pain and anguish coming from Sivi's brief encounter with their alpha.

The battle was becoming more and more chaotic, Blake could be seen using her shadow clone as a distraction for the Nemean, while Ciel went to assist Yang.
Zen thought for a moment, and looked over towards the Nemean…
If this was exactly like the Nemean lion what if- no we can't get near enough with its vicious roar to do the same thing… wait its mouth.
Suddenly something clicked, his right hand immediately going for his earpiece.

"Blake, this is going to sound crazy but I need you to answer me this question, how nimble are you."

"I can evade most attacks, why?"

"Is it possible to charge at the Nemean Grimm and create a clone just before it roars while you get to safety?"

"I mean I can do it. So yes to your question."

"Blake, how are your aura levels?"
Ruby cut in, glancing where she was in cover, firing several rounds at a jackal Grimm yet to leap at her.

"They're at about fifty five percent last time I checked."

Zen reached into his pocket and opened his scroll to reveal his own team's levels, as well as the log of hits they've received thus far.
So Sivi was hit with a direct soundwave and his aura was at sixty and is now at forty percent.

"Blake, I need you to cover us from any jackals that may jump us, also gonna need you to make another distraction this time towards the Nemean, not sure what it will do when the jackals are gone and I don't want to find out."
Zen replied looking over at Ruby, the thought of trying to kill it brewing in his mind.

"Hey, Ruby is our leader, since when did you decide to promote yourself?"

"Yang let me handle this. You worry about covering Sivi until he can get back in the fight.
Blake follow what Zen says unless I say otherwise."

"Okay Ruby."
Blake affirmed before directing herself to Zen.
"This is a bit of a bold plan you have Zen, hopefully you can follow up with it.
If I get jumped by one of those things I might need to use a clone to dodge the attack, I can only make one shadow clone at a time."

"Fine, I'll cover you if they get too close, just make sure that clone keeps a straight path."
After removing his finger from his earpiece he leaned over to Ruby.
"Ruby, what I'm going to need you to do is aim between that thing's jaws when you have a clear shot."
The hood wearer smiled and nodded before ducking clear as Zen raised his own weapon in rifle form and fired at another jackal that was trying to leap towards them.
Once clear he then shifted his weapon to fire on any jackal that looked towards the raven haired girl.

As Blake charged at the Grimm, firing gambol shroud as she did, the Nemean reared its head to roar at the oncoming Faunus.
Once she was less than twenty metres from it, she produced a clone before dive rolling to a nearby tree, as the torrent of sound emerged from the beast.
Causing the clone to be torn to pieces but Ruby's sight lined up with the lion's mouth and she squeezed the trigger, its roar stopped suddenly, it slightly squeaked before collapsing on the ground.

With their leader gone, the jackals' attacks became more disorganised and the two separated groups converged on the remaining beasts with some looking as though they were trying to flee.

As the last Grimm went down, Port appeared to be lost in thought before voicing his concerns as the group surveyed the area while also getting a chance to breathe.
"This doesn't seem right, the Grimm we've been fighting aren't native to this area, or to Vale for that matter."

"How can you be sure?"
Ciel asked in a bewildered tone.

"Their tough hides and adaptive attack patterns are suited for the harsh and hostile conditions of Vacuo, they're not in their natural element here, but they do have the advantage of more temperate conditions which in turn means we had the tougher time of fighting them off.
The main question now is how did they get here?"

"Could they have possibly migrated from Vacuo to Vale?" Yang piped up, looking over to Blake, who was now fidgeting with Gambol Shroud, her bow slightly tilted downwards.

"It's a possibility, but there wouldn't be a logical reason for them to migrate to Vale in the first place, not to mention any active patrol surveying near the borders would have reported such a migration.
That and the number of small towns that are dotted between here and the edge of Vacuo."

"Well, we're not going to find any answers standing around here, let's press on forward to the next designated area and see if we- "
Before Oobleck could finish his sentence his aura slightly glowed, radiating from his shoulder as a bullet failed to pierce its target, the echo of the shot followed a second or two behind it.
Then the sound of more gun fire came into play, as gunshots rang out through the woods which caused everyone to scramble to find cover.
As the shots grew louder, bullets whizzing past or ricocheting their cover, the group were just barely able to see that out from the foliage, came several groups of white fang members.

Once the fire fight began between the opposing groups, a loud roar of an airship's engines flying overhead filled the forest, as it soared out of view, before anyone could ask, another more distinct craft could be heard, as well as the familiar voice of the pilot of their own ship.

"Sir, we've picked up on the craft as well as multiple hostiles, are you alright?"

"We're in a little bit of a tight spot, but we're holding up for now, do you think you are able to pick us up?"

"Negative. We run the risk of being grounded if they get lucky with one or two well placed shots."

"Agreed. Best you pull back to a safer distance, or else pursue that other bullhead and find out what it was doing."

"Roger sir, we'll keep in contact and be ready to pull you out."

No sooner had the bullhead followed in the same direction as the other mysterious craft, did the pilot's voice fill their earpieces once again.

"They've dropped something off, but from where we are we can't see what, but whatever it is, it's large."
As the transmission ended, the sound of trees breaking could be heard, more white fang guards emerging where the first group came from and with them, an Atlesian paladin.
The mech was almost identical to the prototype that Roman used, except it was evident this model had thicker armour plating that was able to deflect all the attacks that were being thrown at it as well as having an array of well concealed armaments.

With Penny being supplied by Ciel and Zen with covering fire, she spun her swords about as she charged an energy blast directed towards the mech, which was currently focused on Port and Oobleck.
As the ball of plasma formed before being shot out from where the android was standing, it cut through several trees as it travelled straight past the mech, who's pilot was able to wise up to the shot and dodge the energy stream as it came close.

"Alright, run!"
Penny yelled as the mech's left arm raised, pointing a rocket pod in their direction, smoke pouring out of the slowly glowing barrel.
They had only gone a few metres from where they started before the sound of rockets flying through the air drowned out all other sounds of combat.
When they landed, grass, rocks, dust, dirt and gravel went flying in every direction as they tore up the ground, but as the three of them came to a halt, they realised that with a shot like that, they should be dead.
But they weren't...
As Zen looked down, he saw a snowflake emblem on the ground, in fact, when he looked behind him, he saw several that trailed behind them.

"Thanks for the assist ice girl, I owe you for this."

"Perhaps you can owe me by not calling me ice girl, and maybe if we get out of this then we can talk!"
Weiss hollered through Zen's earpiece.

And it's Ice queen.
The heiress then looked towards her own teammates, who had the opportunity to fight the White Fang members while the mech was distracted.
Ruby darted in and out between several members in a blur of rose petals, as each one met Crescent Rose, they were sent flying in every direction.

Yang firing shots at a separate group, purposefully missing so as to disorganise them, allowing her to get in close range and take them head on.
They seemed to only carry basic sabres and assault rifles to counter any attack in close proximity, and so Yang's job was all the more easier.

Blake was the most sporadic, running along the entire battle field going behind enemy lines, trying to take as many members down before they could even react.
Then she would return to the side of her allies providing cover fire to who she saw would need it.

Doctor Oobleck, armed with his flaming thermos bat, darted across the way directly towards the mech, making several blows, but to no avail as it kept its arms up blocking his hits.
And when the doctor looked like he was aiming for the cockpit it simply swatted him away, causing him to roll several metres away while disarming him in the process.

The mech was about to fire on the defenceless professional hunter, but before it could, its gun barrel started spinning down.
It quickly swivelled where it stood and set its sights on Blake, pelting her with bullets.
Her shadow clone soaking up the immediate attack but it swivelled again to face where Blake landed, caught by several shots, she collapsed on the ground, aura shimmering around her before dissipating entirely.
As the mech was about to fire another round into Blake's motionless body it was caught by surprise by a flaming shot from the now re-armed doctor.

"Peter, protect Miss Belladonna!"

And with that, Port activated his semblance, creating a protective wall between Blake and the mech, which had now focused its attention to its oncoming attacker.

A second or two later, Yang came flying through the air, her fists making contact with its left arm, but only causing it to be caught off balance.
Its right arm making a hand as it grabbed at Yang, then slamming her into the ground, immobilising her.
The mech's hand folded away to produce the rocket pod, charging a shot.
It was about to fire when suddenly a portal appeared just above its left arm, and out came Zen, digging both his swords into a now exposed joint, hydraulic fluid gushing out. The rocket pod folded away as it produced a long blade as it went for a stabbing motion.
Zen just barely blocking the attack as he closed the portal and rolled towards the brawler.

Picking up the taller girl with all the strength he had, he ran as fast as he could with the help of Weiss's glyphs, behind him, he could hear the mech's gun barrel spin up ready to fire.
He opened a portal just in time as he and Yang slammed into the ground on the other side, bullets shooting just overhead before quickly ceasing.
Zen then lifted his head to look back at the portal, and from the other side, it appeared as the others had it distracted, he grabbed Spirit and cut along the portal to close it before returning to the blonde still laying nearby.
"Yang, are you alright?"

"..."

"Can you hear me Xiao Long?" His voice grew slightly louder and weary as he knelt over her, but it changed once he saw her eyes flutter open slightly before she came to.

"Wha- Zen? What are you doing here?" She asked somewhat confused, with a hint of anger both in her voice and by her expression.

"Getting you out of danger is what I'm doing, thank you very much." He responded jokingly.

"What happened?" This time she looked more surprised than anything else as she looked to either side of her, despite the lack of any sight of the immediate battle going on behind the small bit of cover they had.

"You got body slammed by that mech in an attempt to distract it from attacking Blake."

"Blake! Is she alright?" Panic quickly appeared on her face as she shuffled herself to try to sit upright.

"From where we're sitting? Seems like she's back on her feet, being cautious not to go directly head to head with anyone. Anyway, how do you feel?"

"Uhg, fine I just need to get back out there and take that thing out."

"Well I've managed to cripple it, but it's still giving us a hard time, but with what we just did, it's given me an idea."

"I'm listening."

"Hold on... Doctor Oobleck, Professor Port, Sivi, Ciel and Penny. I have a plan, but you need to provide cover fire to myself and team RWBY, will this be possible?"

A resounding roger filled his right ear, he grabbed Yang by the hand as he opened a portal and pulled her through to meet with her team.

As Sivi kept the mech's attention fixed on him and the rest were fending off the remaining white fang members who now relied on the mech for adequate protection and firepower to have the upper hand. RWBY and Zen were situated several metres away behind cover getting ready to strike.

"So you know what you have to do and when to do it Yang?"

"Yes. You'll be ready at the last minute.
But I gotta say, this plan seems very famil- hey watch where you're grabbing sis."

"Shut up Yang.
Just try and focus, the worlds gonna look a little weird but you'll be fine as long as you don't fidget too much."

"And Blake and Weiss, you know what to do?"

"Yes."
Each girl said respectively.

"Alright, on my mark... Go!"

With that Ruby and Yang were gone in a trail of rose petals, as they ran around the outer edge of the battlefield.
Weiss creating speed glyphs as they ran, maintaining a steady focus so as not to misplace a glyph along their path, also making a time dilation glyph under Blake's feet.

As Zen could see the glyphs appearing back around, he gave the signal to Blake, who fired Gambol shroud directly in front of where she stood.

It was immediately gone as the trail of roses sped by, depositing yang in the process holding onto Gambol Shroud for dear life. Blake spun on her feet and flung Yang towards Zen.
As Yang released her grip on Blake's weapon, she raised her arms ready to deliver a striking blow.
Zen tore open a portal behind him before getting out of the way, allowing the brawler through and as she did, her fist slammed against the back of the mech.

A/N:

And so another chapter complete, one that I had written very early on in the inception of this RWBY fic and am quite happy with, also I know I have left it on a bit of a cliff hanger, but I had wanted to have these two chapters split like this.
Though I will mention now that the next chapter will be smaller and it could have gone in here... but I felt the flow should be kept separate.
Either way the other reason why I like this chapter is that we finally are having our character work together as well as this being the 23rd chapter of foresight, (which also coincides with my birthday- not my birthday upon writing this just my birthday falls on a 23rd).

Now for the references:

The Grimm in this story all take inspiration from one of the best RTS Games, Age Of Mythology (yes the same game made by the guys behind age of empires 2).
The game is set during the ancient period, and features 'myth units' from Greece, Egypt, Norway and 'Atlantis'...
The Neamen lion unit has a special roar attack and that was used in the story here.
The Chimera also has a special attack where the tail breathes fire.
And the Jackal Grimm is inspired by the Egyptian myth unit the Anubite, which if you see a pattern here, uses sickles as weapons and has the special attack of leaping high in the air and coming down on an enemy.
I highly recommend anyone who likes real time strategy games or even just mythology in general to check it out.

Of course Zen's idea was a partial play of what team RWBY did in Volume 2, but I decided to run with it as I was more drawn from the team attack in Vol 3.

Anyhow I have to get to sleep and for once am posting this slightly before midnight.

Until the next chapter, thank you for reading as always.
