Chapter 4
Floating Books
"Look" i said to Carlos as i was grazing out the windscreen "There's our moon! Do you think we might be heading towards that?". Carlos started to look towards where i was looking "Don't know DA, this whole thing is a mystery to me!" he answered in a laid back kind of tone. Just then we both heard to short beeps almost like the ones you hear on an airplane when you have permission to unfasten your seatbelt "What do you think that mean't?" asked Carlos, "Don't know, this whole thing seems to be running by itself, i cannot even reach my books as we have been strapped in tight!" i answered back to him. I then looked down beside my seat only to find that my books and bag where no longer there! Carlos's backpack was missing too! I started to panic! "Ummm Carlos...ah...have you seen my bag? I cannot see yours ethier!" i asked him. Carlos turned his face to meet mine "What?" i he answered in confusion but then in a few short seconds his confused face turned to a jolly face. He then started to laugh "Carlos! This is no time to be funny" i shouted at him "You might want to duck" he says. I was very puzzled by this stage but then i felt a slight bump to the head or helmet since now even been equipped with one "Ouch! What was that?" i asked as i placed my hand to where i felt the hit. Carlos was at this stage laughing his head off "One of your books DA, there is no gravity!". Suddenly, he was lifted out of his chair. He managed to free himself from his tighly criss crossed seatbeat and was now floating in thin air taking off his helmet in the process "but how?" i said under my breath.
I was nervous but excited at the same time. My mind was telling me to go for it even started to play an old saying that Ms Frizzle use to say "Take Chances, Make Mistakes & Get Messy!". "Well here goes nothing, if this is real better enjoy it" i stated as i moved my hands towards the seatbeat buckle that was tighly fastened around me. I noticed the buckle that was sitting on the middle of my chest had a red button almost like a seatbelt in a car, so i pressed it hard "Click". "That's it" Carlos shouted as he was now floating upside down. My seatbelt strap came away from its buckle and i was released "Come on gravity do your stuff!" i shouted. Then in seconds i could feel my body being lifted into the air "We're weightless!" i stated as i remember saying that same saying the first time we went to space those years ago. "Take off your helmet DA!" i heard Carlos saying "At least we can breathe in here". I nodded and placed my hands on the sides of my helmet and removed it from my head. Gravity then released the helmet from my hands making it float around us just like my books and our bags. "Now what do you suppose?" Carlos asks as he was still floating upside down "Not sure Carlos but isn't it great to be weightless again?" i answered back to him us i was floating in the air trying to grab my books in the process. As i was madly obtaining my books from the air, i examined our surroundings. The whole room had completely changed. Instead of just being a room with a stimulator in it, it now was looking more like a real spaceship. The door from which we came in from now looks like an airshaft and the room had more windows and flashing lights etc. "I think we need to be careful what we touch here Carlos" i calmly said to Carlos as i swam through the air towards the back of the room, "Who made you boss" i hear Carlos shout "Well someones gotta be the responsiable one ha!" I replyed to him.
As i slowly made my way to the back, the could hear rockets rumbling. The sound got slightly louder as i got closer "Ok if i see real rocket engines, i will be convinced that we are in a real space ship" as i whispered to myself. I finally got to the back windows, i closed my eyes and took a deep breath..."Show me rocket engines" i said in my head. I opened my eyes and to my surprise i saw real rocket engines! "Ok I'm convinced now" i stated", "What's that DA?" i heard Carlos say in a distance. I swam slowly back through the air towards Carlos to tell him that we have rocket engines "Cool!" i shouted with an very excitable voice. I looked out towards the windows on my right to see our Earth basking in all its glory. How beautiful it looked, still looked very much the same as the last time but still gorgeous to look at. "Thought you were grabbing your books" Carlos questioned me "Sorry i got a bit distracted as you can see, i was busy admiring our Earth" i said to him. My books were still floating around along with our bags and helmets. The spaceship was still sitting in obit not going anywhere. Just then a green light almost like a lazer appeared before us. It was moving up and down in the room like it was almost like a scanner "What do you think that's doing?" Carlos asked, "Don't know, its like its scanning the room or us!" i answered nervously. The lazer stopped as quickly as it appeared like the spaceship had taken control once again. In a few seconds our spaceship or console started to speak again "Welcome Dorothy-Ann and Carlos, instructions will be given in due course, meanwhile please return to your seats, your mission will start shortly". "Mission? Ok, now that was creepy!" i said in a freaked out voice, "DA? I think i just heard our names been said and we have a mission! Who, what, when, where, why & how?" Carlos shouted to the console. He seemed a little bit calmer then i was. "What was that laser thing anyway?" he then asked as if the console could hear him. It made me think and It didn't take me long to possibly figure out that the green like laser was some sort of scanner. "It must've have been a scanner, how else would this voice obtain our names? It's like it was magic!" i said to Carlos trying to keep calm. The voice started to speak again"Yes Dorothy-Ann, that laser was a magical laser that was used to scan both you and Carlos to obtain your names and other relevant info but don't worry secrets have been untouched". Feeling scared, freak out, excited and all the above i reached out my hand to grab Carlos's hand as we made ourselves float back towards our seats. By this stage we had forgotten about our flying books & bags. We were now focused on this mysterious voice coming from the console. Carlos and i managed to grab onto the back rests, fighting gravity as we pulled ourselves into sitting position and buckled up "Great, are you sitting comfortably? I shall now give you your mission!" we heard the voice say…..
