He wouldn't agree on that year ago. He didn't even consider it a year ago. Back then, when James suggested it, he raised his brow at him, then sneered and burst into laughter. His past self would be very disappointed in him now.
It was fascinating, how he lost his entire assertiveness, because of one human being. One person, a little creature, a tiny varmint, and an adorable, but hidden demon. His son. Who would have guessed one decision of adoption will lead him toward something he always despises?
Vacation.
When the proposition from the group came, as every year, the plan was to react as usual. There was nothing, which was supposed to change his mind. Unfortunately, he didn't know how wrong he was.
All it took was one of the smirks on James's face. All it took was his trade of glances with Sarah. All it took was her taking Hiccup from the ground, and showing him before him. All it took was one question:
"Would you deny your son's first vacation?"
It was all it took.
And of course the look at the green, forest-like, cheerful eyes.
It was just enough.
Unfortunately, at least for him, because of his lack of resolve, he was forced to drive in the middle of the night, with Henry beside him taking a place in a baby's seat at a passager spot, to James's house. He agreed to that, he thought to himself while inhaling loudly to calm himself. It's his fault.
Stopping at the traffic lights, he resisted the back of his head on the headrest. Afterward, he took a peek at Hiccup. The boy slept like a stone, with a pacifier that was almost falling out of his mouth. Tobias leaned in his direction and with his pointing finger he poked a pacifier, so it dropped on his hand.
It wasn't a moment before the lights turned green and Toothless was compelled to ride with a pacifier in his hand. Captivating and strange picture. Of a real father.
Eventually, he got to his target, which was James's driveway, by which the mentioned teenager stood, with a giant suitcase and a plastic bag that Tobias guessed was fulfilled with alcohol. Within a moment, Tobias got out of the car, but instead of walking toward Hookfang, he leaned on the car door that he opened a moment before. He sighed. "There wasn't a bigger suitcase?"
"It's a vacation! There is never too much."
In response, Toothless snorted. Afterward, closing the door he walked in direction of the car's trunk and pointed to James to do the same. Subsequently, with a fast gait, mentioned teenager lined up with him. As he did so, Tobias narrowed his eyes at him. "Just for your Information, I packed two people in a such bag."
"Maybe, but one of them is ten times smaller than the second one."
"You're right, diapers, swaddlings, ten times more clothing for every crisis, don't take up any space."
"For sure not that much as Sarah's emergency clothes." They stopped by a trunk and shot at each other long, nasty stares. The first to let go was Toothless, but just because he turned around and opened the back of the car.
"I already regret all of this," he muttered.
James lifted the suitcase and placed it in the black Audi. "C'mon, Toby. It's just three days!" Tobias raised his brow as he crossed his arms on his chest. James grunted at the view. "Overreacting as always, aren't we mister Night?"
"Don't quote Phlegma, I beg you. She is the last person, I want to think about right now," he pinched the bridge of his nose. Hookfang chuckled mockingly, then grabbed a plastic bag which made the sound of banging glass against glass. He knew it. "Three days, Hook."
"I know. I wanted to take more, but Stormfly forbade me from doing so. She said something like it was too much, et cetera."
"How you two lasted with one another is going to be the world's great mystery."
"She said something familiar," Hookfang rubbed his hands. "Alright, let's get going! Vacation!" He ran to the passager's door, but when he opened them and saw Hiccup in the seat he frowned at Toothless. "Shouldn't he sit at the back?"
"The earth will swallow me before I let Henry sit next to the twins." James was about to say something, but before, he overtook him. "Don't whine, and sit at the back." Mumbling, he did so. Thereafter Tobias sat at his spot and started the engine. "Anyway, why girls couldn't ride with us? We're taking two cars. Couldn't twins drive with theirs?"
"First of all, you are nagging. Second of all, it's been already told."
"Yeah. Yeah," he drove forward. "Girls are staying in the city, because of the meeting they have. I'm asking couldn't we wait for them?"
"Wasn't you the one who urge us to drive at midnight, because Hiccup this and Hiccup that?"
"Fair point," he hissed. "May they won't do anything stupid."
"Send them one of your warning glances and it's going to be alright."
"It doesn't work on them anymore."
"I think the threat of being pushed out of the car on the highway is going to be enough for them this time." Toothless snorted. James smiled at him while laying comfortably in his seat. "You'll see. Those are going to be the best vacation you ever had."
"Alright. If you insist so. Let's see."
When they got to the twins' place, both were shocked to see them in an almost sleeping state. Those two silently shoved their bags into the trunk and when they sat in their seats they fell asleep in instant. So much for a warning glare. James and Tobias traded amusing glimpses and afterward, their main route began.
Fortunately, it wasn't as bad as he expected it to be. There weren't a lot of cars and everybody, except for Toothless, fell asleep, giving him the comfort he needed.
The glow of headlights was the only one creating the light around. Anyone else would feel anxious about that, but Toothless was the exact opposite. The darkness somehow always kept him at peace.
In short words, everything was almost ideal. Well, almost. There were three situations, three wake-ups Henry got, forcing everybody into an attention state.
First, it was a changing diaper issue. That one was the easiest to take control of. They stopped by a gas station, and there, not only Tobias done his job, but also they had a chance to refuel.
Second, it was a hunger issue. Also, an easy task. This time they stopped by a fast-food restaurant where Hiccup was well-fed with a milk bottle, while the rest neither refuse a meal. They ate fries, some burgers, and, in Tobias's example, drank some coffee.
After leaving a highway, somewhere around 05:00 A.M. occurred the third issue. It only took Tobias's reduction of speed. As that happened, one asshole, bastard, and scumbag not only cut in but also honked loudly. Loud enough for everybody in the car to jump.
After a moment in the whole car, audible were cries of frightened Hiccup. Those were only more motivating him to race after the prick and skin him alive. Even so, as screams were getting louder, he knew without stopping, there was no way of calming him down.
Their stopover happened to be a parking lot, with a nearby wooden hut and a view, which probably was one of the tourist spots. As they stopped, Tobias ran around the mask and took Hiccup in his arms from his seat. The boy pinned to him, crying in his shirt.
Their stay-in was longer than they hoped for. Hiccup was terrified strongly enough, it took a lot of trouble for Toothless to comfort him. There were rocking, soothing sounds, hugging, and kissing, but anyway, 20 minutes must have passed until Henry only relaxed. The problem with sleep persisted.
Fortunately, it wasn't as hard to put the quiet child to sleep as calming was. Unfortunately, a difficulty arose. Hiccup didn't want to be let go. Every time Tobias would place him in the seat, he would rise furiously. He had strange déjà vu.
The solution forced everybody to change their spots. For the rest of the ride, which happened to be one hour long, Henry, with his dad who was leaning over him ended up at the back. James took care of the steering wheel, with Barf at the place of the passager. Belch sat next to Tobias and fell senseless once more. The knowledge twins weren't night owls gave Toothless strange satisfaction.
That hour was longer than the whole ride for him. He kept staring at Hiccup, who in Toothless's mind had some nightmares. What saved him from craziness were reasonable thoughts: he just imagines things. At the same moment, what maintained his stress were responses: but what if he doesn't?
So, Tobias was kept between sober thinking and a state of madness. The first condition was prevailing when he was seeing smiles on Henry's face. When his breaths were taking on speed, causing some whiffs, he was freaking out.
Eventually, when Henry was motionless for more than a moment, Toothless let himself tranquil. His head ended up against the back of Hiccup's baby seat. He stroked with his thumb one of the little hands, which were for the whole time, as tightly as they could, holding his way bigger palm. He let his eyes close, and breathed out in peace.
Only for a moment though, because the car suddenly stopped. He frowned and looked around, shocked to see they reach their target. Offshore city, small, which was good for Tobias, but of course bad for James.
On the opposite side of the road, at which his sight landed first, there were a few stalls. Some were closed, because of the early hours, and some, despite it, opened. He could see already childish toys twins will force him to buy.
He took a look at the actual point of their route and smiled proudly seeing it. When he agreed to the idea of a vacation, there were questions about the place of their stay. Seemingly, almost everyone was to the idea of a bigger city. The only possibility for Toothless to not be dragged into a loud, overwhelmed, and overpopulated city was to find the best residence he could. And he did so.
Before him, stood a perfect spot, which owned instead of a separate room for everyone, a wooden hut for a group or family. They rented one. Sarah and James tried to remain at their idea, but what finally convinced them was the idea of having a common kitchen, two bathrooms, and a big bed for them.
Of course, Tobias, who was the only one with a working head, had to force everybody else to check in. The rest was already excited about the beach, so when the business was taken care of, they could focus on pleasure. Alas, each of them had a different definition of pleasure.
James wanted to go to the center of the city. As he named it, to tour local culture, which was close-by bars. The twins wanted to go to the beach. They planned the biggest hole this city could have ever seen. Tobias, obviously to everyone, just wanted to take a nap, somewhere he wouldn't be bothered.
Luckily, they got to a compromise. James with the twins was supposed to go to the beach and by the evening they were going to the city. Toothless was supposed to take a nap, at least until Hiccup woke up, and join them shortly after.
So, the group rushed to accomplish their plans. The twins and Hookfang disappeared from his sight, and because of this, he had a whole hut for himself. When he walked in, he didn't plan into exploring it. His target was the closest resting place, and because of that, the only space he noticed was a kitchen, much in a rustic style, and connected to it living room with a sofa in the center.
He could swear the tear fell from his eye at its sight. The baby carrier, in which Hiccup was seated, he placed on its corner, while he lay down, taking the rest of its space. And that's how his snooze started. Thirty minutes long.
At about that time, Hiccup got up. At first, he sat still, until he noticed he had the range to Tobias's face from his spot. He started tapping his dad's face. Seeing so, after being woken up, Tobias shot him an annoyed look while the boy just giggled. Despite all of that, Toothless didn't move, and because of this Henry grow bored and found himself the better game.
Fortunately, thanks to the dragon toy, which Hiccup always took to his sleep, the boy got focused on it for a while, giving Tobias more time for peace. Sadly, it was maybe ten minutes long, because Henry found a game in which he had to be involved.
At first, he thought it was just an accident. The toy fell and Toothless had to grab it in between his slumber and give it back to the boy. Then, it occurred the second time. Coincidence, somebody would have said, but when it happened a third time, this time Hiccup giggled, and he understood it was some kind of fun for him.
Tobias instead of handing over it back to him took it for himself and used it as a pillow, giving him know the fun is over. At first, Henry just watched, then whined, and afterward drew his hand to him, giving his dad know he wanted it back. When he ignored him, it seemed it angered the little boy, because he pulled his hair.
Tobias snapped at it alike, because he raised his head and yelled his name, frowning. He screamed a little too loudly because thereafter Hiccup gave him a teary look. He started crying and Toothless figured out he took it too far.
He stood up and took Henry in his arms. Still yawning, he started apologizing to him, but in the same way, he lectured him to not do something like that ever again. He didn't know if he understood, but either way, Hiccup hushed and pressed his cheek against his chest, with a saddened expression.
Toothless catching sight of it placed his chin on top of his head and caressed his back with his thumb. "I guess you're kind of bored, aren't you? Who would want to be kept fastened in place, with nothing to do?" He bit the inside of his cheek, feeling guilty for his earlier, selfish doings. He tilted his head, just to peek at him. "There is no way I could rest a little bit, is there?" He exhaled. "Alright, let's go to that...beach."
If he thought it was sunny today, when they stepped on the beach, just then he understood how wrong he was. The sun's rays blinded him, forcing him to narrow his eyes, but even so, he analyzed his surroundings.
The white sand was already between his toes. The wind was warm and flew around him, causing his hair to be blown everywhere. To his eyes and mouth mainly. There weren't a lot of people to his happiness and most of them were underneath umbrellas of the close-by cafe, where he already planned they were going to have lunch.
As he looked forward he noticed the sea, which was almost clear and light blue. The waves were calm today, and as he glanced over the lifeguard stand it was a white flag today. Despite that, he knew in the state he was in, there was no way he was going to swim at the moment. But, it could be considered later.
He glanced over the stroller before him and smiled seeing Hiccup already excited and making those O sounds of his. The boy was covered with a peaked cap, but also a stroller awning making it impossible for the sun to reach his baby eyes. He was already bending from his seat, getting Tobias to know he wanted out. Well, who wouldn't?
Before that, Toothless sighed seeing the sand track, which he had been forced to walk until he would get to the rest of the group. Maybe it wasn't so long, he already could see waving James, but the problem appeared while pushing the wheels of the stroller. They kept being blocked by the sand surface, and because of this when he got to his target he was already simmering.
Tobias groaned when he got to the place. He threw his head backward and straightened it back, hearing chuckles before himself. Witnessing the group laughing at his reaction, he shot them an annoyed look. "Hilarious. Next time, you'll drag it, if you're so smart."
Hookfang huffed. "Come on. You won't say it wasn't funny at all." He walked to him and threw his arm around Toothless's shoulders.
As he did so, Tobias had a chance to observe him more. He had a similar to Hiccup's hat with a peak. His whole face was covered with sunscreen, with a few white defects which he forgot to spread. On his nose, there were black sunglasses, which were both supposed to look cool, but also protect his eyes. Toothless would have laughed off all that appearance, but he understood it was because of his vitiligo sickness, rather than his own choice he looked like it.
"Anyway, I must admit. I'm proud," James patted his chest. "When I said you will join us in a while, I thought it was going to be a few hours. But, here you are!" He wiped an invisible tear. "I never knew I'm going to live to the day, that you're going to listen to me."
"More than me, thank Hiccup for that," he pointed at the stroller before himself. "That little brat didn't let me sleep."
Hookfang placed his hand on his heart. "Oh my..." He squealed high-pitched, then kneeled before the stroller to look at Henry. "I'm so proud to be your godfather."
Hiccup as a response tilted his head at him. Then, almost like seeing his chance in it, pulled out his arms to him, in a take-me-out gesture. James couldn't disagree. He took him in his arms and Henry already started looking around, amazed.
Tobias, seeing his son's happiness and satisfaction, smiled as he crossed his arms on his chest. Then, he yawned loudly, still feeling tired from today's night.
James noticed so, and because of this, he smirked mockingly. "If you want to, there is a place on the blanket for such old geezers like you to sleep on," he tossed Hiccup, at which the little boy laughed. "I'm going to take care of that little brat how you named him."
At first, Tobias just shook his head, then he walked forward to both of them. As he did so, Hiccup took it as an opportunity and pulled out his arms once more, but this time in his dad's direction. Instead of taking him, Toothless kneeled, leveling his eyes with his. "Daddy's going to sleep. He's tired and he needs a moment of rest. You're staying with uncle Hook and you're going to be nice, alright?"
Hiccup didn't respond much. The only thing he did was bring his hands back to himself. Tobias took it as agreement and placed a kiss on his temple, then stood up and walked to the spot James pointed at earlier. He lay down, but before he closed his eyes, he noticed that Hiccup was gazing at him. Toothless smiled at him and just then closed his eyes. Hearing footsteps, he could say both James with Henry walked off.
The peaceful sounds of waves and the warm sun were snuggling him into sleep and he finally didn't have to argue with the powers of nature. He heaved a sigh.
"So, what are we doing to him now?" Belch whispered.
"You could at least wait until I fell asleep," Tobias groaned, then turned to his side away from them. Ignoring their mocking chuckles, he dozed off.
The first thing he did after woke-up was looking at the time. The phone, which he pulled out of his pocket, showed an hour at 11:23 A.M. He slept for three hours. When he turned on his back, he felt ashamed he checked the time on the phone. The sun was perfectly in position, which clearly showed it was indeed noon of the day.
After a moment, he sat up, then scratched his head while examining his surroundings. He was on the beach, he thought, trying to remind himself how he got here, and when memories of last night appeared in his mind, he sneered at his earlier confusion.
The first people he noticed were the twins and at their sight, momentarily after he checked himself, from toe to head. There was no sand on his body, no penises drawn with marker, no hilarious pranks, and no sign of twins on him. Tobias even turned a camera on his phone, just to scan his face, but even it was without any defects.
While gazing at them once more, this time getting to know their doings, he understood why. They were serious about that hole. It was already deep enough that only Barf's head was visible. Glimpsing that he was staring at them, Belch, who sat at the edge of the pit, grunted. "We don't have time for you now, but better watch yourself." He smirked, then jumped down to his brother.
Tobias rolled his eyes, and while doing so he detected Hookfang walking around, grumpy. He stood up and walked toward him. Seeing so, James almost jumped with happiness. "You are awake! Finally! Please, help me with...this!"
Just then, he shoved Hiccup in between them, who he has been holding for the whole while. It didn't take long for Toothless to note Henry was as gloomy as James was. Gazing at his dad, he drew his arms toward him, almost whimpering to be taken.
When he did, Hookfang wiped his arms over his clothes. "Brat," he snarled. Tobias sent him a warning glare, by which James smiled apologizing. Then, he looked down on Henry, which still was murky, and afterward on James. "I honestly tried everything!"
"Everything?" Toothless raised his brow. "Define everything."
"You know...we went on a walk, sat for a moment. I even changed his diaper, but nothing worked for his moodiness!"
Humming, Tobias peeked at Hiccup, who held tightly to his shirt. "Well, he hasn't eaten much since morning. Maybe you fed him too little." James blinked a couple of times, shocked. "Because you fed him, right?"
Hookfang was taken aback. "Of course!" He walked backward. "B-but sure! You're probably right. D-do what you have to, and I'm going... somewhere. Bye!" He ran off.
Smirking, Tobias narrowed his eyes in the direction of the teenager's escape. Afterward, he leaned toward the little boy. "He didn't feed you, did he?" He whispered. As a reply Hiccup looked at him begging alike. Toothless exhaled but didn't waste his time on the fury, and focused on what had to be done.
Together, they sat on the blanket, with Hiccup on his dad's lap. The teenager reached for a bottle and thanked himself for buying one of these, which kept being warm despite the weather around. Something like a thermos for tea, but for babies, he had seen on a page a while ago.
Thankfully, everything around them while Hiccup ate kept being at peace, letting him focus and fill up himself without unnecessary obstacles. When he finished, Tobias took him against his shoulder, so his body was straightened and his stomach had a chance to digest the meal.
For a moment they were doing just circles around. Glimpsing over his shoulder, Toothless noticed how Hiccup have been trying to peek at the sea, and because of this, he easier the task and walked with him towards it.
Henry's eyes widened at the view of waves and blue water, at which Tobias smiled. "Nice isn't it?" He whispered close to his ear.
The boy either ignored him or didn't hear because he didn't even glimpse at him. In difference to that, he pushed himself with his hands away from his dad. Even so, Toothless just tightened his grip on the boy.
"Where do you think you're going?" Hiccup stared at the ground and noticing so, Tobias only corrected his hold on him. "No, no. You just ate. A little break buddy, alright?" Henry answered him with a disapproval whimpering. Tobias frowned. "Henry, I said no!"
The mentioned boy for a moment later tried to convince him with his wailing but figuring out it wouldn't work, he laid once more on dad's shoulder and placed his head away from him.
Tobias sighed. "In a moment, okay?" He kissed the back of his head. "Be a little patient." He caressed his hair.
Eventually, Hiccup who got bored with being miffed got back to his earlier spot and played with his dad's shirt. While so, the mentioned male stroked his back, helping his body to relax. As time passed, and when Toothless consider it to be alright, they sat on the sand, just before the shore.
When they did, Hiccup giggled happily. Despite the fact, he could already sit rather straight, Tobias sat behind him, just in case. At first, the boy kept patting the sand and throwing it everywhere around him. Witnessing the chaos the play created, Tobias looked around for a replacement for it and detected a close-by glass that he assumed was a good one.
He took it and just noticed something was poured into it. He sniffed it and was disgusted. Gin, only James drinks that disgusting shit, he thought while spilling out the content of the glass.
Thereafter he fulfilled it with sand and placed it upside-down, creating a mud pie. Hiccup seeing it just stared, then when he tried touching it, it has destroyed. He gazed at his dad, a little saddened, because of which Toothless created another one swiftly.
The little boy blinked at it, but then this time he destroyed it on purpose, which caused his giggle. Over time, they still kept playing like that, until one strong flow caught Hiccup's attention.
Toothless took it as a chance of showing Hiccup the real, seawater, because of which, after checking he sat alright, he walked towards it, in hope of fulfilling a glass with it. While doing so, suddenly he was pushed into the water. Standing up, he glanced at his wet clothes, and then his veins started popping at the sound of the chuckle of two twins.
Belch held his stomach while trying to take a breath. "I-I told you to watch yourself." His brother held his shoulder, attempting to not burst into laughter.
Tobias frowned. "Better you watch yourselves now," He cracked his neck and knuckles.
Both their eyes widened. They were about to run off, but before that could happen, Toothless caught them. He held Belch by his stomach, while the lightest of them all, who was Barf, he even took on his shoulder. First, he let go of Belch who fell in the water, and then he threw Barf. While the two of them whined hurtfully, Tobias smirked and crossed his arms.
He peeked over his shoulders hearing a familiar giggle. Hiccup laughed happily and clapped his hands, probably after witnessing what his dad did. Toothless smirked even wider, then kneeled to face Barf's eyes. He pointed at Hiccup. "He liked that."
Looking there, Barf glumped. "Please don't," he didn't listen and repeated his earlier doings. After he did, he gazed at Henry, whose reaction got even happier.
Unfortunately, his fun finished when he leaned forward and ended up stomach-first on the wet, shore sand. At first, he didn't upset. He tried getting up, but the sand surface prevented him from accomplishing his common doings. His eyes had teared.
Toothless rushed to him and took him in his arms. "Don't panic, it's alright," he wiped off the sand. Despite that, Hiccup still cried. Tobias pressed him against his shoulder. "It's okay, it's okay. Everything is fine," he soothed him.
That did some of its work because Henry hushed, but even so, instead of straightening, he clutched to his dad, gripping his shirt. Tobias kissed his head and while doing so he noticed the position of the sun. Afterward, he caught the glimpse of Barf, who just got out of the water, holding his neck.
"Barf, could you check the time, please?"
"In a moment," He stroked his aching neck.
"In a moment you will become my new manner of comforting the child!"
Hearing so, Barf didn't even respond. He ran towards their things. Then, he yelled. "It's ten past one P.M.!"
"Thanks!" He yelled back. "Way too late for you, buddy," he whispered. The truth was Henry should have been asleep for 30 minutes. There is no way in dwelling on this, let's get to work, he thought to himself while walking toward their blankets.
Fortunately, the tent, which was supposed to be Hiccup's napping spot was already unfolded, for what he's going to thank later. He placed him in it and afterward laid down next to him. Closing the tent he tried to lay Hiccup on his side. Even so, Henry didn't let him and started weeping. He pointed to the entrance and while doing so, leaning forward, he fell on his dad's chest.
Tobias took the opportunity and lay him down between his chest and arm, with his second arm encircling him, and creating an embrace. He sent in his ear soothing sounds. "Sleep, buddy. It's time for it," he whispered. It calmed him slightly but keeping gazing at him Toothless finally understood he forgot something. Pacifier. Without it, he won't fall asleep.
He was about to go to search for it, but thankfully, it occurred, to be just next to them in the tent. James probably tried putting him to sleep, he thought and chuckled to himself. Then giving it to Hiccup, he stroked his forehead with his thumb.
Tired Henry, who was encircled by his dad's warmness, as well as soothed by the sounds he made and feeling protected by him, within a moment fell asleep and after him, his dad did.
"-just saying. There is no way we could get along," Martha snarled.
"Wait, because I got lost. We're talking about that fiancée of your brother?" Hookfang asked.
Tobias opened his eyes and was welcomed by the sight of Hiccup tucked to his chest, as well as the sounds of conversation outside the tent.
Sarah sighed. "Yes, James. We do since the beginning!"
"Anyway," Meatlug grunted, while Toothless as gently as possible sat up, just so as not to wake up Henry. "We're just different. I tried explaining to him that, but he wouldn't listen!"
Tobias opened the entrance of the tent and the first thing he saw were five pairs of eyes, staring at him. "Hey," he cleared his throat because of his hoarse voice. Standing up, he caught a glimpse of two arrived girls. "Hey," he repeated, but this time directly to both of them. "How was the road?"
Sarah shrugged. "Alright, I don't complain."
"Good, good," yawning, he wiped his eye. "You are still arguing with brother, Martha?" She didn't reply. The only thing she did was cross her arms. It's rarely he has seen her like that, because of which he worried. "Somebody of you should already act somehow. You live together after all."
"And what," she snorted. "I have to be first to apologize?! He's the head of the house! May he finally handle his fiancée, because she is hunting me with those insults way too long!" Her eyes teared and she ran off.
Toothless scratched his neck and glanced at Stormfly both questioning and apologizing. She exhaled. "Before leaving, she again started her bikini isn't for you, darling talk." She snarled.
"Either she will talk with her brother, or I will," Tobias growled. "My conversation will contain fists when I'll be using my claims."
"Same as me," she snorted. Then sighed. "I'll go after her," she left in the direction Martha did.
Tobias observed her for a moment after, concerned. While so, James leaned over his shoulder, then patted his back strongly. "Hungry?"
"I could eat," he shrugged.
"Here," Belch handed him a bottle of vodka. Tobias narrowed his eyes at him. "What? It's the source of many vitamins. One of them will cause you to stop being so," he checked him out. "-yourself."
"No, I have to refuse this one," he rolled his eyes. "But thank you, of course."
"You're welcome."
"Anyway," James shoved between them. "Here you go. Bon Appetit," he passed him a burger.
"Thanks."
Toothless only bit it, and Hookfang already attacked him. "So, are we going to play volleyball?"
He swallowed soundly. "James, I just got up."
"True, that's why I'm giving you a moment to eat, and then we will go, right?"
"Hook, please," Tobias groaned.
"C'mon! You woke up and soon Hiccup too and after that, you won't have a chance to play, so, please!"
Toothless peeked at begging him Hookfang, then barked. "Damn it, okay!" He took another bit. "But let me eat first," he spoke with food in his mouth.
"Alright," he clapped his hands. "I'm going to reserve some close-by field," he ran somewhere away. Tobias shook his head at him and then sitting on the blanket he focused on eating.
Eventually, the game started unlucky for Tobias. He ended up with James in the squad and while that wasn't the worst, the fact they played against the twins was.
These two were both fast, but also they knew each other perfectly making them one of the most difficult players to play against. By the time they ended up winning already two sets to zero.
Before the third set, as they took a break, towards Tobias walked two, stranger girls, both giggling. The main one, as he guessed, was about to speak up, but the second one interrupted her and both started whispering to each other. While the other has been saying, the second one focused on his naked chest, which was like that only because of the heat around.
Despite that Tobias was never ashamed of himself, he always hated when people kept staring at him. He crossed his arms and raised his brow at the girl, who blushed ashamed of her behavior.
Finally, the first one started. "Hi, I'm Lisa and this is Anne," she pointed at her friend. "We wanted to,"
"We wanted to ask for," she was overtaken by Anne, but before she could finish, they once again began arguing.
When they finished, Lisa smiled a little too widely. "We wanted to ask for your name, or how you feel," she shot her friend a warning glare.
"Hey," he blinked at them a couple of times. "I'm Tobias and I'm alright."
"That's great," she relieved, but before she could stay like that, Toothless continued.
"I would be better if your friend stopped checking me out like that," he smirked. "It's creepy."
Noticing what he meant, Lisa hit Anne's back of the head. "I'm so sorry for her," she smiled apologizingly. "She's just... excited. Anyway," she brushed her hair. "Would you like to, maybe someday, go out with one of us?" She beamed.
Tobias narrowed his eyes at them. He was about to give them a piece of his mind, for such a stupid idea of asking out, in two, but the situation was saved, or rather the opposite, by James. "What's the matter here?" He leaned over his shoulder, at which Toothless frowned.
"We're just," Anne started, but before she could finish, Hookfang interrupted her.
He gasped. "You tried to date him! I'm sorry ladies, I know it's painful, but this male," he patted Tobias's back twice. "He's unavailable."
At first, girls looked at him, then their sight shifted to Toothless just to end up at each other. Afterward, they suffocated, discovering. "We're so sorry! We didn't know you were," Lisa chuckled. "You know," she pointed at them.
"But, we're not against it!" Anne grinned, sheepishly.
"Right! We're allies," Lisa shoved her thumbs up.
Seeing her friend's doings, Anne started pushing them away. "Anyway, you're so cool for not doing a big deal of it," she stopped suddenly. "B-because there is nothing to make a deal of! It's normal! Perfectly normal and you're cool!" She smirked anxiously and then walked off dragging Lisa with her.
For the whole time, Tobias gazed at them, confused. Then he peeked at James. "It was...weird," he sneered.
"I know, right?" Hookfang frowned. "Do you know what they meant?"
"No idea."
"No idea?!" Barf, who was on the other side of the field, yelled. "You seriously don't know what happened?!" Noticing Tobias just shrugged, he signed. "And you are calling us morons."
"Hey, it's not our fault they were taking your language," James laughed, then he got hit by the ball. He snapped. "Belch! I know it was you!" When the mentioned boy showed him his tongue, he rushed on him, murmuring curses underneath his nose.
Tobias, who observed the whole event, chuckled, and thereafter he heaved a sigh. As they started whaling, he took the opportunity and peeked at their spot. Just then, he witnessed awake Hiccup, who got being taken care of by two girls, already in great humor. He smiled at the view and then moved his sight to the sea. Not the worst is that vacation, he thought to himself while taking a big breath of salty, fresh air.
