The loudness of the building got to the point the neighbors banged on the door, threatening the police, twice. Each time, the only thing Hookfang did as a host of the event was lower the sound.
After all, it was Halloween and they were young! He slipped through his guests, directing himself toward the main door, which was being knocked at. Either that or his peers would have died from the routine of last, senior year.
Raking how fingers through his green wig, he simpered maniacally, before opening the entrance, cackling. "Hello, miss," he crooned, cocking his head, sharply and intensively. "Welcome to my humble abode!" He sniggered, moving to the side, making space for the newcomer. "I don't promise you'll leave here. Not alive."
"Hi, Hookfang," Martha giggled and stepped inside, while James closed the door behind her. "Amazing impression of Joker."
"It was he or Edward from twilight," he gagged, disgusted.
"Ouch," she sympathized, taking off her jacket. "Although, if you had gone by him you would score additional points from Sarah."
"Well, maybe, but then I would have passed the opportunity to beg Tobias about being Batman."
"Did he agree?"
"No, but it was worth a try," James gibbered, sniffling. "Each year the same story and he's coming as-, fanfare," he muttered leaning toward her and tapping his fingers into the wall, rhythmically. ", himself!"
"It was predictable, honestly," Meatlug snickered and leered around the living room, connected to the hall they were in. "Where is Sarah?"
"Sarah? She's somewhere-," he began, but was interrupted when mentioned girl shoved herself into his side, encircling her arms around his middle. "Here she is," he cajoled, kissing her temple. "My partner in crime."
"I must admit it, babe. The first time your idea was better," Stormfly admitted and grinned at Meatlug, mysteriously. "Oh, who do we have here," she chuckled, pouting toward her ginger-haired friend. "I hope you have nothing against bigger weapons?" She inquired, revealing a large hammer in her hand and toying with one of her ponytails.
"Great Harley Quinn."
"Great doctor Quinn," Sarah laughed and the same did Meatlug. "Where is Byron?" She questioned and cocked her brows shocked when Martha took out of her pocket the cardboard image of the man glued on the stick. "Here he is!"
"Nice, isn't he?" Meatlug jested, making goo-goo eyes. "What a shame that there are no men like him."
"Right," Sarah concurred, nodding her head.
"Hey, I'm still here," Hookfang grumbled while a line appeared between his brows. "Are you saying you would cheat on me with that man?"
"You would cheat on me with Maggie Robbie."
"That's different."
"How is that different?"
"She's hot!"
"He's hot too," Stormfly declared, while the two of them narrowed their eyes at each other. "Tie?"
"Tie," Hookfang confirmed and they shook hands. "However you may cheat on me with celebrities only. The rest will be killed," he whispered into her ear and she flinched from him, lited up.
"Your relationship is strange," Martha stated, raising a brow at them. "Like, really strange."
"C'mon, doc," Sarah called after patting James's chest and grasping Martha's arm. "I heard that medics are stressed almost all the time. What would you say about the glass of wine?" She queried and they disappeared into the farther part of the party.
Planning into following them James peered at the door surprised when someone knocked on it, again. "Well, well, well," he chanted, leaning his shoulder on the doorframe and crossing his arms. "The honor guests."
Barf, who got on his head two, mighty horns and whose back covered a long cape, stank his nose into the air. "Who else would they be?" He noted, smirking at his brother whose corner of his eye crinkled while correcting the crocodile nose on his mouth.
"Although, I'm disappointed," Hookfang continued, sizing them up. "Loki and crocodile? I hoped you would attempt to win a duet costume competition like every year."
"We do!" Belch countered sharply and rolled his eyes, gazing at his brother. "No respect for culture," he concluded, pointing at James with his thumb. "Nevertheless, I doubt we'll win this year."
"With such costumes whose concept nobody understands it's not a surprise, really," James replied raising his chin and Belch glared at him.
"I meant that there are rather strong opponents this year," he elaborated with excitement that glowed in his eyes.
"I trust you mean me and Sarah?"
"Joker, and as I guess, Harley Quinn?" Barf snorted, sticking his eye at him. "It's so old-fashioned."
"We've got someone way better," Belch scoffed and peered behind himself.
The same he did, did Hookfang and his brows knitted at the figure standing there. It had a metal helmet, a black, long cape, and armor that must have been rather expensive. Glowering from it to the twins repeatedly James's smile faded.
"Guys, I've told you it's a private event. No exceptions."
"Hookfang, don't you recognize this man?" Belch chanted and sniggered. "Your best friend?" He teased, tilting his head and smirking.
Hearing so, James lifted his eyebrow and his eyes went round at the sound of an adorable giggle. As he gawed at the man again Hookfang noticed he held a baby, Hiccup nonetheless, with huge, attached, green ears on his head. Momentarily, recognition dawned on his face and he burst into loud laughter.
"I hate you," Tobias droned, with his voice being muffled by the metal against his mouth, and his shoulders tensed while the twins joined the red-haired teenager. "I hate you," he fumed and glanced at Hiccup in his hold, who giggled, observing others do so. "Now, I hate you too."
Raising his chin, the little boy glanced at him and attempted to take off his helmet, not succeeding in it because it was out of his reach. Toothless sighed but listened to his kid's demands, and with one hand he took off the metal cover.
His hair was glued to his forehead which was creased and his lips were pursed. Glimpsing so, Hiccup beamed at him brightly leaving Tobias no choice, but to return it, weakly and defeated.
Eventually, Hookfang moved to him, and encircling his back with his arm he walked him inside the building. "Mandalorian and baby Yoda!" He scoffed, looking heavenward. "I should be mad for not listening to me about the Batman idea, but that's way better!" He sneered, patting Tobias's back strongly and leering at the twins. "How did you convince him into it?"
"Hiccup," Belch replied, grinning.
"Hiccup," Barf repeated, smirking.
"Hiccup," Hookfang recited, chuckling.
"Hiccup," Toothless groaned, avoiding their sight.
"Well, in that case, I think we've got a winner," Hookfang appealed and tickled Hiccup underneath his chin, who laughed at that. "I must say, it's a piece of great art," he stated, knocking onto Toothless's metal shoulder pad. "Who made it?"
"Nobody. We bought it," Barf answered, shrugging.
"Three hundred dollars," Belch added, sticking his chest out. "Worth every penny."
"I have no doubt," James agreed while each of them sat on the couch, heavily.
Resisting his head at the couch's back Tobias stroked his forehead. "I hate you," he rasped.
"We love you too," Hookfang nagged, leaning his arm behind Toothless's head, causing the black-haired man to move away with Hiccup in his lap, disgusted.
The part went on oferty shortly after and nobody was surprised by it. The loudness mixed with the melody of the music, while the nose could've smelled the strange hybrid of alcohol and sweat.
It wasn't even moments later when Tobias got tired of everything around him and each sound made randomly caused his expression to twist. To the rescue came Sarah, who pressured him into drinking a little, and in exchange, she would take care of his tiny, sweet problem.
Obviously, Toothless attempted to argue with her, but after another head's spin provoked by deafening laughter, he gave in. The confused infant was passed to his aunt and since that, the evening was becoming only more interesting for him.
Firstly, he got a chance to meet a lot of females. Stormfly couldn't help herself but brag to her friends about her honor of looking after the strict Tobias's son. Afterward, the boy could only blink, surprised by the kind of attention he was creating.
There was much cooing and pandering, but other than that Hiccup was calm as never. Neither he felt nervous nor startled, just entertained and enjoyed. It was something like thirty minutes when he was given to Martha, who with a smile agreed, seeing her friend's huge, begging eyes.
The two of them ended up in the garden, where the ginger-haired girl described the types of plant life having their place in there. The flora of it was mostly surrounded by the fruit trees like apple, cherry, and pear trees.
Consequently, Hiccup got bored and Meatlug was forced to take him onto an old slide, which belonged to the owner of the house, and stayed there since his times of childhood. The mentioned toy seemed like the best thing ever at the moment for the little's boy brain.
Thus, it took a lot of trouble for Martha to take him away from it when the sun got to the level where the air got cold and Henry sneezed, repeatedly. Snapping her brows together she glowered at James who smirked as he witnessed sobbing Hiccup and she ran away after handing over the infant.
Hookfang's eyes twinkled with enthusiasm when he leered at Henry and promised him fun. As he swore, he did, dragging Hiccup into his company, which didn't involve Tobias on purpose. The truth was even the bypassing stranger would have said it was a little extreme, not even mentioning the father of that child.
The reality happened to be the fact Henry became the youngest member of the drinking games. Obviously, James didn't let him into drinking even a slip, although there were a few people that tried to convince him into it. In the end, Hiccup was throwing the ping-pong ball into cups and laughing when everybody else did as he succeed in it.
Eventually, Henry became exhausted to the point where he didn't even register he was one more time passed to somebody else because he fell asleep instantly afterward. His nap wasn't long and it wasn't twenty minutes when he got up, rubbing his eyelids.
In the beginning, he sat up on the couch, blinking tiredly, observing everything around him. Then, his lip began trembling, after not seeing anyone he knew. Surrounded by strangers his eyes flooded with tears and just as he was about to cry, he was grasped and brought up to the owner.
The little boy froze, glimpsing the person's face he would never recognize in his eyes. The woman beamed at him, the corner of her light, blue eyes crinkled, and the strand of her blond-white hair tickled his cheek.
"Hey, little man," she began, humming. "Aren't you too young for the parties like this? Where are your parents?"
In response, Hiccup yelped, soundly enough everyone nearby must have a glance in their way, and the girl moved him away from herself, straightening her arms. Forthwith, Toothless appeared from behind a corner, and the mimics on his face expressed only one - furious.
"Bianca! What the fuck you are doing?!" He bellowed while passing everyone, who made a wide route for him. "What have you thought?"
"Hey! Don't yell at me! I didn't do anything wrong!" She rasped, knitting her brows in his direction. "He would have cried anyway! Not my fault he's got some fucked-up parents, who left him alone on the couch!"
"What are you-?" he began, but as realization streamed upon his face he stopped just in front of her and his nostrils flared. "Okay, okay," he fumed, inhaled, and pitched the bridge of his nose. "I'm sorry for the outburst," he hissed in between his teeth. "Give him now-,"
"Not until I find his parents," Bianca countered, bringing Hiccup closer who calmed down at the sight of his daddy. "What a moron leaves a baby like this!"
"Me. I'm that moron. May you, please, give me my son?"
Jerking her head at Hiccup Bianca cocked her brows at Toothless. "Your son?" She snickered, swaying on her feet. "You don't even have a girlfriend!"
"I've adopted him. Could you just-," he responded and stepped forward, just to gnash his teeth when she did the same, backward. "Give me back my son!"
"Not before I get some explanation! You got bored with life, so you've decided to adopt an infant?"
"Yes! I've adopted an infant! Is that really that much of a deal?!" He roared and closed up, glancing at the crowd. "Listen, everyone! I've adopted a baby and I don't care what any of you think, alright?! So, if any of you have a problem with it, you might fuck off!"
"Tobias Thomas Night!" Sarah shouted, appearing behind the group of people and shoving herself in between two teenagers. "What's going on?! Since when you're swearing?!"
"Since now!" He answered, crinkling his nose. "Tell her to give me back Hiccup!"
"Hiccup, where is-?" Stormfly started, peeked at Bianca, and lifted a brow at her, noticing the baby in her hold. "Why would you pick up a stranger baby?"
"Don't blame me! He was alone, on the couch, close to crying. I must have done something!"
"Yeah, and you did," Toothless crooned ironically, narrowing his eyes at her. "Thank you, for your great savory. And now," he jeered and stepped forward so he was just in front of her, with pulled-out arms. "Henry, stat."
"Alright, alright," Bianca agreed, leaning farther, but still handing him a boy, who snuggled into his chest right away. "Lunatic," she mumbled.
"What did you just say?" Tobias questioned, covering Henry's ear, while the other one was pressed against his neck, tightly. "Me lunatic?!" He boomed, setting his jaw. "Me?!"
"Who else?!" She yelled, throwing her arms. "Maybe me?!"
"You were the one that took an unknown baby and detained him!"
"I was protecting him from his maniac father! Also, you were the one that left him alone in the first place! How did he end up there otherwise?!"
"That's a great question," he countered, gazing at Sarah, furiously. "Mind explaining?! I trusted you! I would've expected such behavior from twins, but you?!"
"Okay, okay. That's partly my fault," Stormfly hesitated, chewing her bottom lip. "Truth is I handed Hiccup to Martha, and then noticed he wasn't with her anymore, so he must've been passed on-,"
"So, my son has been conveyed to everyone, like he's some kind of toy?! How does that sound, Stormfly?!"
"Tobias, you know Martha. She wouldn't give him to someone random," Sarah snorted, emphasizing the absurdity of her words. "Anyway, everything turned out okay-,"
"By okay you mean the fact stranger held my son, probably causing his future trauma?"
"I'm not a stranger!" Bianca snarled, crossing her arms. "If so, the only trauma he'll get will be caused by his dickhead father."
"Bianca, you don't help," Sarah muttered, drawing nearer to Toothless. "Look, everything is fine, now. You've got your son, he's safe and sound, so there is no need to overreact."
"Overreact," Toothless repeated, sniggering. "You think that I am overreacting?"
"No, I don't. I said there is no need-,"
"Well, maybe you're right," he elaborated, giving a dismissive wave of his hand. "Nothing happened! Hiccup was just handed from hand to hand, to the people I might not even know, and to add up, he got startled by the stranger, with whom I started arguing and swearing, in his presence-," he concluded and rubbed his eyelids. "I-I can't even ironize, that's how bad it sounds."
"Tobias, I'm sorry-,"
"No, no, that's fine. There is no need to apologize," Toothless urged, running his fingers through his hair. "It's my fault. Just like Bianca stated-," he noted, pointing at the girl before him. "I'm just a dickhead father. Like I always was anyway," he continued, sighing. "I'll go upstairs with him. Have fun," he added, turning around and moving toward the mentioned destination.
Observing him, Stromfly flinched, hearing a bang of the door above, and glared at Bianca. "You must have said these things to him? Don't you think it was kind of, I don't know, cruel?" She commented and frowned when Bianca answered with shrug and left her on her own.
Inhaling loudly, Sarah knocked on the wooden, carefully and silently, so as not to show herself as rude. Immediately, she was permitted inside, but before stepping into the room she gazed through the door gap. Tobias was laying on the bed on his side, with Hiccup just against his chest, while he peeked at Stromfly, forcing a smile.
"You can come in, just be quiet. He fell asleep."
After she nodded, Sarah sat on the bed next to them, keeping her eyes locked on Henry's sleeping figure. "That's a surprise," she confided, grinning. "I didn't hear any of the cries."
"Because there wasn't any," Tobias reasoned, correcting the blanket Hiccup was covered with. "We laid here and within a second he dozed off."
"That's good."
"Good," he recited, tensing his shoulders. "We should've gone home, already. It's so late, and I have no idea what we're doing here, still."
"Don't be so harsh on yourself. You must have a great time here."
"I would have lied if I said I didn't," he admitted, snorting while the corner of his mouth turned up. "I've talked with Simon and also got a chance to get to know Weronika more," he went on and leaned over Hiccup to her, suddenly. "Did you know these two are siblings?"
"Yes, I did. I'm shocked you didn't," she giggled and the sadness clouded her smile, glimpsing the guilty glance Toothless sent upon Hiccup. "You know, everyone left."
"Left?" He questioned, gazing at her and frowning. "I'm sorry if it was caused by my outburst."
"Nothing like that. They went to karaoke, at least some of them," she elaborated, rolling her eyes. "James went too, of course, and asked me to tell you that you might stay here for a night. He doesn't mind."
"Nice of him," he stated, rubbing his forehead. "Maybe going to sleep isn't the worst idea, although what about you? Do you need help with cleaning?"
"No, in the fact, as a punishment for walking out, I'm leaving that mess for James to clean, and to explain to his father."
"You're bad, but I like the idea."
"My ideas are the best, always," she snickered, shoving her hair back away from her face, and then pressed her lips together, guilty. "How do you feel, about that argument," she croaked.
"I guess it's okay," he retorted, laying on his back and leaning his head on the bed's frame. "I'm used to that talk, you know? I'm a bad, bad teenage father. I'm dickhead and irresponsible little shit," he quoted, avoiding her eyes.
"That's not good thinking, and also, you shouldn't be feeling guilty for what happened. Most of that situation was my fault, not yours," she pointed out, giving Tobias a once-over, before staring at the floor. "You trusted me with him."
"Maybe, but still, I should've got interested in his well-being, at least for a moment," he confessed, scratching his head. "Lately, I got calmer with the idea of him being with others."
"This is great, actually. You aren't such an overprotective, finally."
"However, henceforth it changes, probably."
"Damn it!" She muttered, impacting her palm into her thigh. "Whole character development destroyed!" She rumbled, shaking her head while Toothless chuckled, and sighed. "Please, don't worry about Bianca. We agreed that she's an idiot, already."
"I know, but I'm more worried about Hiccup, and how it's going to affect him," he blurted, pressing his chin into his neck. "Do you think it might turn out into something serious?"
"Yes," she declared, pouting. "He's going to tell every new met kindergartener about this event."
"Really?"
"No!" She snapped, scowling at him. "He won't even remember it in the years time! The only source of information about this situation will be in good night stories!" She snorted and Tobias narrowed his eyes at her, smirking weakly. "Look, I know that you may be stressed because children experience everything more, but I doubt a second of that occurrence will cause you'll be forced to buy him dozens of therapists in the future. Just, let's not repeat that and everything will be better than fine."
"If you insist."
Inclining her head she observed Toothless's unsure expression and stood up. "You'd better go to sleep. You're exhausted, the alcohol causes your emotional disorder, and we'll look for a good therapist for you in the morning."
Afterward, he stank eye on her moving toward the door body. "I don't need a therapist," he sniggered, squirming his eyes.
"Everybody says that," she teased, leering at him in the doorframe. "Sleep well, boys," she whispered, beaming at Henry, before disappearing behind the door.
After she did, Toothless loosened exhaling and gazed at Hiccup while laying his body next to his. Gaping at the relaxed position of his tiny figure, Tobias let each of his muscles lessen. Before he knew that, he encircled his arm over the little boy, pressed his cheek on the pillow over his head, and drifted off.
Can we talk about the fact it's the second chapter in a row they're going to sleep? Yes, I must finish this FF because I'm lacking ideas. Also, the fact that it's only four chapters to end and afterward I'm starting the sequel of "Our Curse"? Meh, who cares anyway, right?
Can we talk about the fact THAT'S how Toothless should have behaved in HTTYD 3 after meeting light fury who SHOT Hiccup? Just sayin, just sayin.
