To my guest reviewer I hope you came back and you loved this chapter..
Trying to keep Laxus really in character. I hope y'all like the newest chapter! Also I mentioned this and updated a few of the chapters for anyone who didn't catch this, I have very bad dyslexia. This means I get motion sick sometimes from reading and writing and I also have to make sure the word THE doesn't end up as TEH. Spell check usually saves me but sometimes it doesn't and I apologize. So the past chapters have had some minor updates! One more chapter and I'll have finish up Galuna island. I planned on doing three more chapters (the filler episodes and then wrapping it up) or wonderec if I should continue the LaLu love?
Update: I got this review saying Laxus as an asshole is fine, I'm surprised he didn't electrocute Natsu and Gray and I'm like what he did. And read the chapter and there was stuff missing that literally read that I wrote before publishing *face palm* sorry guys.
and action!
The screaming sound became more intense, it was sounding like a ringing bell in Lucy's ears.
Lucy was running with Laxus, he looked to be in severe pain. Lucy wished she could call out holorogium. But she didn't figure he would appreciate it.
Laxus was in severe pain. Damn these dragon slayer ear drums. The sound was so strong it was sent blasts all over the island that were knocking down things left and right. Laxus grabbed Lucy's hand as they ran towards the temple.
Laxus and Lucy finally reached the temple..
"Wha-? What was that? A roar? What even was that?" When the sound stopped.
"It was probably just your stomach Lucy!" Happy called behind her.
Lucy looked unimpressed at Happy. "I doubt you're being serious, but it still ticks me off-"
"So we're in agreement that sound is Deliora right?" Laxus asked. Shit! He thought he had hoped Gray could stop this nonsense.
"Oh so we're sure about that now?" She asked fear laced in her voice.
"I would rather it be Lucy's stomach!"
"I'd second that but it wasn't my stomach Happy!" She glared. "But that means that thing was brought back to life!?" Lucy panicked putting her hands on her face. They walked a bit further when they saw a purple lit seal on the floor lighting coming from the ceiling.
Happy gasped. "See that light! It's the moon drip!"
A roar came from the bottom of the temple. "There it is again-" Laxus mumbled.
Lucy made a scream. "Where is that thing coming from?" She screamed. Trying to get a grip. Laxus was right there. She needed to get a grip! Wait! Why did she need a get a grip because he was there!? Sure he was cool and hot, and talented but that didn't mean she had to get a grip right? He was a total jerk.
Yeah no get a grip Lucy! She internally smacked herself.
"It's got to be!" Laxus hissed. He could barely hear anything over this. He didn't even hear Lucy's screams in the background. When the screaming ended Laxus was able to hear Lucy's banter with Happy.
"You should really eat something, Lucy!" Happy screamed trying to live in denial!
"And you should shut your mouth cat! It's not me!"
"Are you sure! Cause you're pretty fat!"
"Answer me this! How does my stomach growling have anything to do with my weight?"
"As much as I would love to hear you continue to banter with a cat I think that it is the demon and it seems that the Moon Drip ceremony is still underway."
Happy and Lucy turned to look at Laxus. "In other words, Deliora's revival isn't complete! So we still have a chance to do something come on!"
Lucy was confused. "You're going the wrong way! Deliora's below us!"
"We can still stop it if we halt the ceremony on top of the temple!" Laxus growled sensitive over Lucy's remark. This time he wasn't lost, though he may get lost trying to navigate this dumb place. He was slightly regretting giving her that teaching moment.
"Hurry!" He barked.
Laxus and Lucy ran up the steps of the temple and out towards the outside. Laxus saw Toby performing the ceremony. He threw a lighting bolt at him, sending Toby flying. Toby howled, as his body was seizing. Lucy gasped. That looked painful. More painful than what Laxus used on her.
"Awesome! The Moon Drip should stop any minute right!?"
As Lucy said that the seal that was projecting the light stopped and shrank until nothing was left.
"I can't believe it was just him doing it!" Happy asked confused.
Laxus was glaring at Toby. Weak.
"You're too late! The ceremony's complete!" Toby howled. Laxus looked faintly worried that wasn't good. He had hoped he had stopped it. Destroying a demon wasn't part of his plans when he woke up this morning. Actually it was to be back at home and learning paperwork vaguely missing Blondie's tits. He shook his head of that...he needed to focus.
"Why are you here? Why are you helping the Cold Emperor?" Laxus demanded. "I didn't get to hear the villager's answer because of this stupid demon revival ceremony."
"You wanna know why we were helping him?"
Toby hung his head in shame, Laxus glared at him.
"Sherry and the rest of us...we lost all our families because of Deliora. That's why we were helping Lyon." Laxus scowled, he heard Lucy gasp. "We wanted revenge. He convinced us if anyone, can defeat Deliora, he could. And it would be gone forever where it couldn't take another person's loved ones away again!" Laxus was about to say something when green light sprouted from the rooftop. Shaking the entire temple. Lucy nearly fell off the temples edge. Laxus ran over to her and pulled Lucy close to him.
"Oh no! Laxus we were too late!"
Laxus held her close. "We've got to get down there Lucy!"
Lucy nodded as it roared again. Happy screamed flying into Lucy's boobs. She held on to him tight. The ground and temple was moving. Laxus felt a tad nauseous, not right now!
Suddenly everything started to slowly stop. Lucy could hear the rushing of water.
"Whoa! What's going on!" Happy screamed flying towards the edge.
Water was coming out of the temple. Lucy pulled herself from Laxus's grip.
"I don't know Happy," Lucy said. Watching the water.
"I think Gray has finally resolved his issues with Lyon, and his past." Laxus said thoughtfully. He was secretly proud of that kid. Confronting your past and demons wasn't easy and he knew that.
"Come on, let's go find those idiots!"
Lucy looked to Laxus and smiled. Laxus looked away, he hated that he thought it was cute. He didn't want to think about that at the moment.
When Laxus and Lucy came down to the temple. Laxus was surprised to see a giant demon carcass broken into pieces. Well this was weird, usually there's more blood...
Lucy ran past him waving to Natsu.
Natsu was cheering he ran over to Lucy to hug her. Lucy hugged him back. Lucy looked to Laxus smiling, motioning him to join them. Natsu turned around to see who she was looking at, panicked when he saw Laxus. He tried to run away, this couldn't be good he thought. Laxus grabbed him by the scarf. "No way Natsu." Laxus's deep baritone voice called out electrocuting Natsu. He smirked seeing him fall to the ground.
"You're not getting out of this one. No matter how hard you try."
Natsu was screaming for Lucy to save him as he sat in the water as electricity ran through out his body. "Sorry Natsu but I've been dealing with him all day and last night, now it's your turn!" She laughed feeling slightly bad for her companion.
Laxus, Lucy, Natsu, Happy and Gray with Lyon left the temple and exited out onto the beach.
Laxus hung back as Lucy looked at the water, "whatcha thinking about Blondie?"
Lucy sighed, "for the last time my name is Lucy not Blondie."
"You say tomato I say tomato."
Lucy looked annoyed. "So what were you thinking about?"
Lucy sighed. "Ur's ice has melted into water, and it's now flowing into the sea."
"And?"
"Oh I don't know, even if she's not physically with us. Gray was saying Ur is still alive, and I think he's right. From the sea she can watch over her two pupils forever! I can almost hear her say, "don't fight anymore."
"You know that sounds very romantic, what are you a writer?" Laxus smirked.
"Actually I am," Lucy said nervously.
Laxus was surprised, "any good?"
Lucy looked at her feet, "Levy seems to think so, maybe one day I'll get published!"
Laxus looked at Lucy again, this girl was a enigma he thought.
"Gross who likes reading, reading is boring." Natsu said.
Laxus rolled his eyes at that, "Flame Brain I like to read."
Natsu looks surprised, "you like to read?"
Lux's nodded, "read a lot of strategy books and also tomes about my magic before my S-Class exam to prepare to become an S-Class mage. So reading can be enjoyable and helpful." He said.
"You're saying if I read more, it could help me get stronger and become S-Class?"
Laxus rolled his eyes, "possibly if anything you'll become more quick witted and less dumb." He said in a derisive manner. Natsu gave him a look.
Lucy stared at Laxus, he liked reading! She thought excitedly!
"What books do you read?"
Laxus considered that question. "Fiction such as fantasy and murder mysteries and horror, and nonfiction books mainly about war and philosophy and ethics."
Lucy was shocked but it also made sense.
"What's your favorite? Maybe when we get back you can show me?"
Laxus stiffened. "Blondie that won't happen. Ever. When we get back you will be kicked out and if by some miraculous miracle you don't get kicked out, none of us will talk again."
Lucy glared at the ground she was mad at herself. Mad for having a slight hope that her and Laxus could connect. Hard to find people who were damaged by their fathers, mothers were dead, and being known by their first names and not by their last names and parents legacies. She wasn't expecting a buddy buddy relationship but maybe someone she could go to for advice? Something!? She wasn't sure what she wanted exactly but it wasn't what Laxus had just said she knew that.
Laxus misunderstood all that though and he raised an eyebrow at Lucy, "what's your problem?" He asked.
She looked down at the ground, "I guess I was an idiot... I thought I don't know maybe we could talk more about what we talked about in the woods, and ask you how you overcame the feeling of being in the shadows, a man in your own right, and stuff. I was an idiot for thinking that. Forget it. I thought you understood and were more accepting of who I am now that I maybe proved myself... Maybe I had proved myself. I now wasn't just some dumb weak blonde." She said and walked away.
Laxus was stunned for a moment. 'Fuck!' Is all he thought. Did he just put his foot in his mouth because of his own stupidity? The answer was yes. He also didn't understand why he felt that way.
He watched Lucy jogged over to where Natsu was. Laxus heard a growl in his head.
"Ah! Yeah! That's right! We won!" Nastu said laughing picking up and twirling Lucy and Happy around. Lucy laughed, 'yes! It was finally all over!'
"Aye sir!"
"You know I was really worried there for a moment. But it all worked out!" She said a little emotional.
"Thanks to your amazing master!" She said smiling at Gray. Gray smiled back. He was thankful Laxus let him do this. He finally felt light and free. And not guilt ridden and angry anymore.
"This means we've totally accomplished an S-Class quest on our own Lucy!" Natsu said wrapping his arm around her jumping up and down. Lucy laughed, watching him. She had to admit she was swept up in his excitement.
"Alright!" Happy said.
"Do you think this means we could ever qualify for S-Class?" Lucy said dreamily. No matter what Laxus had said about her earlier, she still wanted to be the best! And change the world.
Laxus was annoyed, he was glaring. Natsu was going to answer Lucy's question when he saw Laxus glaring at him. Happy and Natsu gulped. Lucy and Gray turned around to see Laxus. They all started to nervously sweat, reality started to sink in. They all wondered what he was going to do to them.
"So, you're still going to bring us back for punishment?" Her voice cracked. She was a tad upset over the fact he rejected her...even her presence still...
Laxus was glaring at Lucy, he looked away. He was angry he put his foot in his mouth earlier. And he was angry because he couldn't quite figure out why, sure they related to each other earlier but that wasn't monumental and yet...he shook his head. He was also angry that Lucy and the other idiots forgot a major thing.
"You know Blondie, you will NEVER make S-Class if you don't do THE most basic part of completing a non S-Class mission."
Lucy cocked her head. "And that is?"
"Lesson number 2 Blondie, Mavis, when you do get kicked out and try to join another guild actually find a team that's worth following and learning from-"
"Hey!" Natsu and Gray yelled.
"Do what the quest actually asked of you! You were asked to come to this island to help the villagers that have been transformed into demons." He said folding his arms. "The request, was for you to turn them back to their original forms. You still haven't completed your S-Class quest yet." He crossed his arms.
"But Deliora is dead. So the village's curse should be-" Lucy said confused.
"Wrong," Laxus continued to look at Lucy. "This curse you keep talking about never was affected by Deliora. If so, Gray and this Lyon and the other villagers would be affected. These," he motioned to the island, "villagers have been affected by the Moon Drip's enormous magical energy." He looked back up to the creepy purple moon. "In other words just because Deliora has been vanquished doesn't mean the villagers haven't been returned to normal." He scowled.
"Y- You can't be serious!?" Lucy gasped, her hands covering her face.
"Well, let's go heal them, then." Natsu held his hand up.
"Aye sir!" Happy gave Natsu a high five.
"Yeah, but we don't know how!" Gray said confused. 'How the hell were they going to pull this off.'
"Laxus do you have any idea? Have you seen anything like this before?" Lucy asked Laxus. He narrowed his eyes in deep concentration. He hadn't and he was annoyed by it. He sat there mulling it over.
"Hey Lyon?" Laxus was surprised, 'that kid was still around?'
"Do you know?" Gray asked turning around.
"To be quite honest, I have no idea."
"You don't know?" Natsu said confused.
"What?" Happy said surprised.
"But the villagers said their problems started around the same time you guys came to the island 3 years ago." Lucy said confused.
"We knew of the village's existence. But we had absolutely no contact with them. And they never came to the temple to see what we were up to."
"In three years!?" Laxus asked surprised. "You've never once met? Until Ice Freak and Flame Brain forced everyone-"
"Hey!" They said at the same time.
"I don't understand Laxus, they must have seen the Moon Drip's light. It's SO bright you can see it from anywhere on this island. It was so bright it lit up our way back to the destroyed village. If what he's saying is true. It's weird that they never came to investigate."
Laxus stood there listening. They never checked it out. The quest had been on the S-Class board for at least a year and a half. Freed was briefly interested in it, but complaints from Evergreen about wanting to stay a beautiful young woman had stopped that idea. And again traveling by boat wasn't a pleasant thought so he didn't mind skipping that and giving them experience from other quests...why didn't it affect Lyon and the others. But the villager's?
Lyon sighed, "if I'm being honest with you, I don't think the Moon Drip spell was affecting their bodies."
"What-" Natsu asked. "What are you trying to say? It wasn't your guys' fault now?" Natsu said incredulously.
"Just think about it. No offense, I don't know your name," He said to Laxus.
"Laxus."
"Thank you. This Laxus here made a valid point, if it was Deliora, Gray and I and the villagers from Brago would be demons. But the Moon Drip, I've been exposed to it as long as they have. And my appearance hasn't changed."
"Be careful," Lyon muttered. "They are hiding something. But I'm sure you guild wizards can handle it." Lyon said looking away.
"You're not getting off that easy!" Laxus sighed, "You guys destroyed an entire village-"
"That's enough Natsu." He said hitting him in the head. Natsu had a bruise on his head. "They were acting out of their own sense of justice. However you will be punished for destroying a entire village. You did the same thing to these people as Deliora did to you. He knows what he's done. I assume?"
Lyon scowled feeling guilty. 'Good, feel guilty you prick.' Laxus thought.
"Come on!" He said turning around, his coat billowing in the wind.
"Go? But how are we going to lift the curse?" Natsu asked looking to Laxus.
Gray and Lucy looked to Laxus, "I have no idea at the moment. Give me a moment."
"Wha...?"
"Laxus-"
Laxus turned around to see Lucy's big brown eyes looking up him. She was practically begging him to come up with something. "We can't let these guys down. And like you said we gotta keep Fairy Tail looking good!"
Laxus scowled walking away.
And then...
When they got back to the storage area, the Fairy Tail mages discovered the area was empty. An owl could be heard in the distance. Lucy screamed when something fell in front of her. Laxus turned around and stared at her. Lucy laughed nervously.
"That's weird. No one is here. Where is everybody?" Happy screamed.
"Are you really sure they all came here?" Natsu asked.
"Yeah, they came here after the village was destroyed." Lucy said biting her nails. She was going to be mad later looking at them but oh well. "I wonder where they could have gone?"
"HELLO?!" Happy called out flying low.
"Since we're here I'm gonna borrow some medicine and bandages." Gray said walking into a tent. He turned around hearing the sound of footsteps in the dirt.
"You're back! Something's happened! There's something you need to see! Follow me!" A villager said running up to them.
The mages all looked at one another. Laxus shrugged, and followed.
When they were brought to the village, everyone was partying. The village was back to normal.
"Whoa are you kidding me? The village was in shambles yesterday!" Lucy said confused.
"What's going on here! It's almost like it went back in time!" Natsu said beating against a building.
"Now that it's fixed you probably shouldn't beat on it!" Lucy cried nervously.
Natsu looked irritated, "what? What's that supposed to mean? Do you think I destroy everything I touch!?"
Lucy nodded. "Kinda."
Natsu stopped.."back in time? Was it him? No it couldn't be. Wait. Maybe he had a change of heart?"
"What the hell you talking about Flame Brain?" Laxus asked looking at Natsu weirdly.
"Well, whatever."
"Aye, sir!" Happy said flying.
"What are you talking about?" Lucy asked standing next to Laxus. Laxus looked down at her, mainly her boobs, he smiled perversely. He was about to say something. Lucy began to walk away.
"Oi! I was going to say something to you," Laxus scowled.
Lucy was annoyed, "I thought you said you didn't want to associate with us after all of this?" She said annoyed.
Laxus blinked, he did say that didn't he?
"Look I get it. You don't want to associate with a "weak" mage. But you know I work hard-"
"I saw that. And for what it's worth, you did possibly change my mind about celestial mages not being weak."
Lucy stared at him, that was almost a compliment. Almost. She was about to say something but she remembered something...
"Oh! Our Stuff!" Lucy cried.
"Lucy!" Laxus said calling out to her.
She stopped in front of a grave site. She looked sad, but happy.
"What's this?" Laxus whispered. Did someone die? He thought alarmed.
"Bobo's grave is back to normal! That's the chief's son, they had to kill him because he lost his mind and wasn't able to go back to being human anymore-"
Laxus's eyes widen. Damn that's some heavy shit..
"I'm so glad! He was really upset when Sherry and the others destroyed it.." Lucy whispered walking towards the chief..
"Are you the ones who returned our village back to normal?" The Chief turned around and asked.
Laxus looked at Lucy eager to see what she would say, he motioned for her to have the stage. Lucy glared. The look in Laxus's eyes read, your quest, your shit.
"Oh, it's not like that!" Lucy prattled..
"I can't tell you how much I appreciate what you've done to restore our village!" The Chief said getting up. Lucy looked to Laxus who looked bored. 'Thanks for the help.' She thought.
"However, I must ask...exactly when are you wizards going to destroy the moon for us!"
Lucy was sweating nervously. Laxus sighed. He had been thinking about the situation for a while now. A few things had gone through his head, one being why was the moon still a creepy shade of purple slightly when he looked into the sky. Hell it made him want to destroy the moon.. Then it hit him like a ton of bricks...it was slowly starting to make sense...
"Destroying the moon is a relatively easy task." Laxus shrugged. Lucy turned to look at Laxus shocked.
"What the-" Gray asked.."did he say that with a straight face?'
"It's crazy to think Laxus can say crazy things so casually!" Happy whispered.
"However, there is something I want to double check-" Laxus said leaning against a building. "I want to ask a few questions, can you assemble everyone?"
"Laxus what are you-" Lucy asked surprised..
"Lesson number 3 Blondie," she glared at him calling her Blondie. "Think things through. Use logic and common sense."
Everyone gathered in the center of the village, Laxus stood towering over everyone. Lucy noticed how he commanded the space around him. He filled up every corner, and demanded everyone's attention. He looked attractive in the moons creepy moonlight at the moment. She mentally face palmed herself. Well there's nothing wrong with thinking he's attractive right?
"Let's get our facts straight. Shall we?"
The villagers mumbled to themselves, but were compliant with the hulking mage.
"You first took on these demonic forms when the moon began to turn purple? Is that correct?"
Laxus looked at the sky, the moon was shining purple. He looked at Lucy expectantly, he figured she would have caught on by now possibly? Lucy stared at him, her eyes questioning him. She was trying to think her way through this.
"Yes." The Chief rasped. "Technically, we only look this way when the moon is out."
"And the moon first turned purple three years ago?" Laxus questioned.
"Wow!" A villager exclaimed. "Has it really been that long?" He asked shocked.
"Yeah, that sounds about right."
Laxus was pacing thinking this through...
"I wouldn't trust the villager's... their hiding something"...'What were they hiding?' He thought.
"However, we learned that the Moon Drip was performed on this island everyday for three years. And that it produced a beam of light so brilliant that you couldn't have missed it." Laxus said walking back and forth. He walked over to the hole that Lucy covered up with leaves and branches.
Laxus stepped on a branch and his leg went through. His eyes widen a a strangled noise came out of his voice as he fell with a loud thud. He cried out in pain as he landed weirdly on his knee. Gray and Natsu were stunned. Lucy ran over to Laxus. "Are you ok?" She cried.
"Whoa! Even Lucy's pitfall trap is back?" Happy said dumb founded.
Natsu was shocked, did Laxus just yelp?
"Oh my God! Laxus!" Screamed Lucy. He hissed getting up. His knee was throbbing slightly. He briefly remembered Porlyusica yelling at him to be careful growing up if he was intent on falling or throwing himself into danger or he would get knee problems...this probably didn't help that..
He heard Happy's comment on Lucy's pitfall trap. He glared. "You did this!?"
Lucy nodded.
"You know that respect I gave you a few minutes ago!" He growled from the bottom of the pit.
Lucy winced and nodded.
"Yeah! That's all gone!" He screamed lightning protruding all around him as he teleported out of the hole. Lucy gasped as she saw him appear next to her. The villager's sweated nervously. Did he fall for that? They thought.
Laxus shook his head annoyed. He looked at Lucy, and then back at the villagers. "In other words, it was THE MOST suspicious place on this island! Didn't you ever wonder where that light was coming from?!" He demanded in a bad a mood now.
"He got up like nothing happened!" Another villager whispered to his companion.
"He must be pretty tough!"
Laxus was glaring at everyone. "It doesn't make sense, why didn't you investigate!?" He demanded.
Laxus looked around, he heard mumbling and whispering. They all were very much trying to not look at him.
Finally, the chief decided to speak up. "Well, our village lore says that we must NEVER go near those ruins young man."
Laxus internally sighed, young man? He felt like he was talking to his grandfather and his friends. But that was interesting...they can never go by there? Why not? Did they not create the temple? Laxus scowled.
"But who cares about village lore when your people are transforming and losing their minds?" Lucy asked shocked. "You obviously knew there was a problem! You contacted the magic guilds to help you guys! Given the casualties and the size of the reward you were offering, you knew something was wrong."
The Chief looked down embarrassed. "Uh, well..."
"Mind telling me the truth.".. 'or I can force it out of you.' Laxus thought, sparking.
The villagers backed away. Lucy glared at Laxus. She didn't like getting jerked around either but come on.
"To be honest we don't really understand it ourselves!" The Chief explained. "Allow me to explain we honestly did try to investigate the ruins on many occasions. We would take weapons that we haven't had to use in centuries. I'd trim & style my sideburns and we headed for the ruins many times!" Laxus rolled his eyes, that was so something his grandfather would do except it would be to style his mustache and beard.
"We would venture into the jungle and we would try to go near the ruins, but we just couldn't get near them!"
Natsu and Happy stared at one another.
"We could get close enough to see it through the trees, only to find ourselves back at the village gate!"
"H-? How can that be? You can't get near them?" Lucy asked confused again for the millionth time that day.
"We got into the temple just fine. How weird." Natsu marveled.
"We didn't say anything because we didn't think you would believe us and walk away like every other guild has."
Laxus glared, that was bull shit, abandoning a job when clearly something was wrong was bull shit.
"But it's the truth. We tried to go to the ruins many times."
"But not even one villager managed to make it there."
Laxus's eyes widen, "I get it."
Everyone was shocked they stared at Laxus confused.
"Give me an hour and I'll destroy this thing." He said looking up at the sky.
