Just a little something I wrote late one night. It's a very topical issue and I just felt that it needed some recognition. Hope you enjoy and please comment if you'd like to read more!
TW- spiking
Addison smiled as her favourite song started playing throughout the club and she swayed in time to the music, slightly too tipsy to dance properly. She laughed as Callie dragged a less-than-enthusiastic Arizona onto the dance floor and began dancing around her. It had been two weeks since she'd returned to Seattle and she already felt like she hadn't missed a thing, like she was where she was supposed to be. Of course, it hurt to see Derek and the slutty intern (although she supposed she wasn't an intern anymore) together, but she made it work by spending her time third wheeling Arizona and Callie. Once she'd brought Alex, but that hadn't turned out too well so now she just settled for 'ladies night', as Callie insisted on calling it.
The club was especially packed tonight, and the brightly coloured lights cast a disorientating haze on her surroundings. Addison ordered another drink before realising that that really wasn't a very good idea. She was already drunk and, looking at the state of the two drunken women a few feet away, she'd be the one in charge of calling them all a cab back home. Thankfully, she was crashing at Mark's until she figured something out so they could share the cab and from past experience, it would take both Arizona and Addison to get a drunk Callie into bed.
Addison thanked the bartender for her drink and raised it to her lips just as her phone started ringing. Naomi's name flashed up on the caller ID so she begrudgingly took it outside where she could hear her properly. Clouds had covered the stars that had previously been shining in the sky not two hours ago, and rain had begun to pour down, soaking Addison almost immediately.
'Hey Nai, what's up?' she asked cheerfully. She locked eyes with a tall, dark-haired man who stood smoking in front of a dark alleyway. He gave her the shivers, but she blamed the cold and flashed him her famous Addison Montgomery smile that seemed to simultaneously ward off any unaware strangers and also make her seem like the nicest woman in the world.
'Hey Addison, how are things? Listen, would you be able to fly back for a consult? One of my clients is pregnant after seven rounds of IVF and now it looks like the baby could have developed a heart defect.'
Addison cocked a hip, smirking to herself. She liked feeling needed, especially by her oldest friend.
She didn't see the smoking man watching her, barely paying any attention to the cigarette held between his fingers.
'Something Naomi can't even handle? Sure, let me clear my schedule and I'll be there by the end of the week. How urgent is it?' She mentally went through a list of patients and who she could bump and who would need to be covered.
'No there's no rush. Baby doesn't seem in distress but the latest scans showed an abnormality. End of the week sounds perfect!' Naomi replied, excited at the prospect of seeing Addison again.
'Great. I'm out with Callie and Arizona right now, so I'll speak to you tomorrow, ok?' Addison arranged. She checked the time on her phone, sighing as she saw how late it was getting and how much she really wanted to be in bed.
'Anything else I can get you, Ma'am?' the bartender asked Addie as she sat back down inside.
She shivered slightly, trying to shake the chill that had settled in her veins from the cold rain outside. She ordered a tequila shot, grimacing at the irony of her choice of drink and swallowing the bitter taste of knowing that Derek was probably with Meredith that very second.
'Hey.'
The smoking man from outside placed a hand around her and she felt a subtle prick at his touch. But she was too drunk and disorientated to care.
'Hey yourself,' she replied.
He ordered another two shots before turning back to face her, handing one to Addison and keeping the other for himself.
'Are you new around here? I don't remember seeing you before, and I always remember beautiful women.'
She could've gagged at the cheesy line. Instead she gagged from the amount of alcohol she'd consumed that night. She swayed forward slightly.
'Whoa, steady on there!' he laughed, grabbing hold of her arms.
Addison sat back, but he still held on.
'I'm ok,' she mumbled, but he still held on.
He stood up.
'Let's get you some air.'
'No, I'm….' she trailed off.
The room started spinning faster and her eyes grew heavier, forcing her to close them as she lost all feeling in her body.
'God, I feel like crap.'
The man pulled her up, holding her tighter and leading her out of the club. Callie and Arizona were together in a corner, completely oblivious to the goings on.
'Let's go, I'll take you home.' He steered her out the door, guiding her with one arm around her waist and another keeping a firm grip on her right arm.
Addison closed her eyes, allowing him to support her entire weight. It never struck her that he didn't know where she lived, nor that she never heard a cab pull up near them, let alone climbed into one.
