Peter Pan
One day, Peter Sam took some passengers to the lakeside station. After the passengers were done for the day, Peter Sam took them home. "Hey, look's who is back," said Duncan.
"It's only me," said Peter Sam. "Yeah," said Sir Handel, "The engine who is going for a repaint." "That's true," said Peter Sam, "But It'll only be for one day. You can manage without me." "Yes, we can," agreed Rheneas.
"Yeah, right," grumbled Duncan. "It'll only be for one day," said Skarloey. "We can manage," said Rusty. "Thank you," smiled Peter Sam, "Everyone."
Next day, Peter Sam went to the works for his repaint. The engines took turns in doing Peter Sam's work for the day. "We can manager, all right," mumbled Sir Handel, "Yeah, right, I meant."
The following day, Peter Sam had returned from his repaint. "Hello, everyone," smiled Peter Sam, "I'm back." The engines looked at Peter Sam in amazement. "Yeah," agreed Duncan. Each of the engines gave a whistle to say 'welcome back, Peter Sam'. "All right," said Peter Sam, "I must be off. I have to make up for yesterday."
Just as Peter Sam left, Duncan and Sir Handel said to each other, "Who is he?" "Come on," said Skarloey, "It's Peter Sam." The other engines started work at once.
Twenty minutes later, Sir Handel pulled a passenger train to the main station where he met Fearless Freddie, waiting to leave. "Why hello, Sir Handel," said Freddie.
"Hey, Freddie," Sir Handel said, "Did you know there's a new engine on our railway?" "No," answered Freddie. "He looks like Peter Sam," said Sir Handel. "Ok," said Freddie.
Then Duncan arrived at the coal mines where Mighty Mac was getting ready to leave with a train of trucks. "Hello," smiled Mighty. "Well say hello to a new engine," said Duncan, teasingly.
"Who?" asked Mac. "He looks like Peter Sam!" answered Duncan, "Say hello to him whenever you see him!" "All right," said Mighty Mac as they left with their train. Throughout the day, Peter Sam did his jobs like normal. Even though Duncan and Sir Handel were spreading rumors of the "new engine".
They've already told Bertram, Colin, Luke and Millie. "I don't believe it," said Bertram. "I would like to meet him," said Colin. "Me too," said Luke. "I don't know," said Millie.
"I agree, Millie," said Kaitlin, "Something is weird here. I'm going to find out what!" "But how will you know who he is?" asked Luke. "They said he looks like Peter Sam," answered Kaitlin, "Maybe it is him. Something must have happened to him during his repaint. I may have been on this railway for only a week, but I'm going to get to the bottom of this right now!"
Kaitlin set off at once. "Good for you!" said Duke.
It was past afternoon when Peter Sam arrived with the five coaches, Agnes, Ruth, Jemima, Lucy and Beatrice. "Hello, Peter Sam," called a voice. It was Kaitlin. "Oh, hey, Kaitlin," smiled Peter Sam. "Well, you don't look different," said Kaitlin. "Well, my repaint has been done well," said Peter Sam. "Well, no doubt about that, Peter Pan," said Kaitlin, "Oops!"
"Right there to agree with you, Peter Pan," Peter Sam stuttered, "Wait a minute, what?!" Everyone got confused. The driver got out and looked at Peter Sam's nameplate.
It turned out that one of the men at the works had made a mistake with Peter Sam's name; the second name. Instead of saying "Peter Sam", it now says "Peter Pan". "Well, how did that happen?" asked Peter Sam out loud.
"You are the new engines after all!" Duncan and Sir Handel said out loud. "No!" called Kaitlin, "I am!" "What is going on here?" called a voice. It was the Thin Controller. "We said there is a new engine on the railway and there he is?" asked Duncan. The Thin Controller looked at Peter Sam's incorrect name.
"Nope," he said, "He's been working with us for a long time. Duncan, Sir Handel, I've heard that you have played a trick." "Yes, sir," said Sir Handel. "Is that the new engine?" asked Luke.
"But it's Peter Sam," said Millie, surprised. "Well now?" the Thin Controller "Sorry," said Duncan. "Hmm," the Thin Controller thought, "Peter Sam, would you care to go back for one final touch?" "Uh, sure," replied Peter Sam.
"Duncan, Sir Handel," the Thin Controller said, "While Peter Sam is away again, you can do all of his works for two days? Do you think you can do that?" "Yes, sir," answered Sir Handel and Duncan together.
"And perhaps, Sir Handel," said the Thin Controller, "Why don't you start now by taking this passenger train for Peter Sam? Peter Sam, why don't you take the rest of the day off?" "Fine," groaned Sir Handel. "Ok, sir," replied Peter Sam.
Peter Sam stayed in the shed for the rest of the day while Sir Handel took over his passenger trains for the rest of the day. "Do I dare say it?" groaned Sir Handel.
The next day, Peter Sam returned to the works to have the final touches done on his nameplate. That means correcting the error. All day, Duncan and Sir Handel did all of Peter Sam's jobs.
The next day, Peter Sam, and I really do mean Peter Sam, returned home once again. "That wasn't too hard, wasn't it?" said Peter Sam. "Welcome back again," said Skarloey, "Peter Sam."
"We're glad to have Peter Sam, the hard working engine," smiled Duke, "Not Peter Pan, the boy who wouldn't grow up." "Aw, shucks," giggled Peter Sam, "And Kaitlin, thank you for pointing out the mistake."
"You're welcome," smiled Kaitlin. The engines left for work as Peter Sam spent the whole day resting in his shed.
By the end of the day, every engine returned from work, including Duncan and Sir Handel who had done all of Peter Sam's work. "Peter Sam," said Duncan, "We're sorry for playing a trick with your mistake."
"It's all right," said Peter Sam, "I'm glad to be back home twice now! The men said they were thinking of that story when they redid my nameplate." "We see," said Sir Handel.
"Tomorrow," said Peter Sam, "We'll do all of our work together. Okay?" "Yes," answered Sir Handel and Duncan. "Good," smiled Peter Sam. Before going to sleep, Kaitlin puffed up to Duke.
"So, Duke," Kaitlin said to Duke, "Who is this boy who wouldn't grow up, Peter Pan?" "It's a popular story," answered Duke, "And character."
