Fergus And The Broken Points
Today, Fergus is going to help Kayla at the coal mines. "It will be time to show the new kid how we do things at the coal mines," he said cheerfully, "Today will be fun!"
Soon enough, he arrived at the coal mines. Of course, it is a dusty, dirty place. Coal dust clouds were everywhere. The whole place is busy. "Ah," smiled Fergus, "Just how I like the coal mines, busy, dusty, active." Then Fergus ran into a cloud of dust.
"And really cloudy," coughed Fergus, "Just how I like my coal mine." Soon enough, he found Kayla, a tank engine who had been on the railway for a month now. "You must be Kayla," smiled Fergus, "I'm Fergus."
"Nice to meet you, Fergus," said Kayla. "All right," said Fergus, "Now let's get started." The two engines started work right away. Immediately, they got covered in coal dust from loading a train of coal trucks.
"This is part of the job," smiled Fergus. Kayla just had to laugh with Fergus. For an hour, Fergus worked happily with Kayla as they shunted a train of loaded coal trucks from one siding to another.
The two engines had a great time together.
Later, Fergus had to move a train of flatbeds loaded with machine parts into a siding. "There," smiled Fergus, "Now you can have your coal mining machine parts replaced, uh, I mean repaired." "Thank you," the men called back.
But when Fergus was about to go back onto the main track, something went wrong. When Fergus' drive tried to turn the points, nothing happened. "What's going on?" the driver called out, "I'm moving the lever, but nothing is happening."
"What's happening?' Fergus asked. "The points have jammed!" a workmen said out loud, "They've snapped and they are now inoperable!" "Oh no!" called the driver, "Fergus can't go anywhere now!"
"Oh, this is bad," said Fergus. "What's going on?" Kayla asked, concerned. "Kayla!" cried Fergus, "Don't come any closer! These points have broken!" "Oh," replied Kayla, "Does that mean?"
"I'm stuck!" Fergus replied, "So you'll have to do all the work by yourself now!" "But how?" asked Kayla, "How can I do with without your help?" "Ok," said Fergus, "You'll have to follow my instructions and orders."
"That's fine with me," Kayla replied, "Thanks! What should I do first?" "You have to collect a train of empty trucks first," Fergus said. So Kayla did so. "Now what?" asked Kayla.
"Have the trucks loaded under a coal chute," Fergus said. "Right," Kayla replied. She had all of the coal trucks loaded under the chute. Even though she got blinded by a cloud of coal dust for a moment.
"Well, it's worth it," smiled Kayla, "Hey, I can do this. Thanks, Fergus!" "No problem!" replied Fergus, "Keep it up!"
"All right," replied Kayla, "I can do this now!" Soon, Kayla had a train of coal trucks ready for the other engines to take away. "There," sighed Kayla, "Done. Time to finish up."
By evening, Kayla shunted the empty trucks away and the points have been fixed so that Fergus can return to the main track. "Hey, Kayla," smiled Fergus. "Fergus!" Kayla said excitedly, "You're back!"
"I was never damaged," Fergus explained, "A set of failed points stopped me from helping you." "Not really," said Kayla, "You've been helping me the whole time." "Right there to agree with you," smiled Fergus, "Now let's go home together."
"Right!" agreed Kayla. And the two engines returned home. "By the way," said Fergus, "Do you want a wash down first?" "Nope," answered Kayla.
