Salty's Legend

Today is an ordinary day on the Island of Sodor. Well, actually, it won't be plain ordinary for some of the engines who work on the railway. Well, something like that. Right now, Salty, the dockyard diesel engine, had finished shunting a line of trucks at Brendam Docks, ready for loading.

"Arr!" called Salty, "There we go!" "Of course," replied Cranky, "Let me load them up!" "Right!" agreed Salty.

Just then, Thomas chuffed in with a short goods train. "Hello, everyone," he said. "Good morning, Thomas," called Salty, shunting a train of flatbeds. "Hi!" called an voice unfamiliar to Thomas. "Hello?" asked Thomas. He knew that the voice came from a tugboat, moving a fishing trawler out of the docks.

"Hold on a minute," the tugboat, whose name is Starburst, said. "That's Starburst," Salty said, introducing the tugboat, "He started working here at Brendam docks since last week." "Oh," replied Thomas, "A tugboat, I see."

So, Salty and Thomas did their work on the railway. Thomas moved a train of loaded flatbeds out of the way and then, he left to do other jobs. "See ya," Cranky and Salty called out to Thomas as he left.

Meanwhile, Starburst moved a big oil rig named Utah to a new place to drill for oil. "There you go," said Starburst. "Thank you," said Utah, "You're a helpful tugboat." "No problem," said Starburst.

While Salty kept on working, other engines joined in, too. One of them is Gloria. "Arr," said Salty, "New friends helping out." "Yes," said Gloria, "We're here to collect goods as well." "Everyone is busy now," said Salty.

Other engines joined in as well, including Gwenevere, Satsuki, Kayla, Rosie and Fergus. "I meant that," Salty added in. "All right," said Fergus, "Let's get to work." And everyone did.

Later, everyone then took a one hour break.

"Whew!" Starburst exclaimed, "I maybe powerful, as I am a tugboat, but I really need my rest." "Right," agreed Salty. "Thanks again, Starburst!" Utah called out from a distance. "All right," said Salty, "Things are going well. Now that we're on a break." "Uh, yeah," Rosie agreed. "I'm used to this," said Satsuki, "But still."

"I'm trying to take it easy," Gwenevere said, trying to settle down, but being a steam turbine locomotive, it's different for her, "But I'll be kind of different." "Okay," Salty replied, "This brings up a special tale."

"Of what?" Kayla asked. "Oh brother," said Cranky, "Fantasy story." "Go ahead," said Starburst. "Yes," Cranky added in, "Go." "So what's the tale about?" Gloria asked.

So then Salty began to tell a tale. "This," he began, "Is the tale of the mystic winds of Bluff's Cove." "The what?" Gloria asked. "The mystic winds of Bluff's Cove," Salty explained. "Okay," Gwenevere said, "I'm settled down. They sound interesting. What's the tale about?"

"These winds are known to be very mysterious," Salty explained, "Sailors say that because of the unusual pattern of the moving air, it sounds like the wings are whispering. No one can make out what is being said." "Ok," Fergus said, "Wind that can whisper, but no one understands what these winds are saying, right?"

"That's the tale," said Salty, "But legends says that only a special someone can understand what can be said from these winds." "Okay," said Fergus, "Sounds mythical." "Legend says long ago," Salty went on, "A young engine was working at the station near Bluff's Cove. He was a kind hard working engine. Never disappoints anyone."

"Okay," said Satsuki, "Like us." "But one late night," Salty said, "The engine was our late. He had done all of his jobs, but upon reaching Bluff's Cove while making a delivery, he had gotten lost. He had no idea where to go, especially in thick fog."

"Oh dear," said Rosie. "Like what happened to me," said Fergus.

"The engine had almost given up hope," Salty continued, "Until he had heard the winds of Bluff's Cove."

"Okay," said Kayla. "The engine knew that the winds were trying to tell him something. At first, he didn't know what they were, but he understood them anyway. He'd knew that the winds were trying to help him back home. So, listening to the mysterious winds, he had found his way through the fog and was back on the line tat led him home."

"A happy ending," said Gloria, "I'm glad for that little engine." "Remember," said Salty, "These winds only blow at Bluff's Cove. Remember that, mates. Upon arriving home, the engine had never gotten lost again and always thanks the mysterious winds of Bluff's Cove."

"All right," said Satsuki, "Thanking something mysterious. What a happy ending." "It is a happy ending for the engine," said Salty, "That's the tale of the winds of Bluff's Cove." "I like it," said Gwenevere.

"Me too," Rosie added. "Same over here!" said Starburst. "Over way out here!" Utah shouted. "I'm happy for everyone," said Salty. "Almost," Cranky added.

Soon, it was time for Salty to go back to work and everyone else had to get back to work, too. Salty returned to shunting trucks while everyone else left. Although it took a while for Gwenevere to leave, too. "Arr," Salty said, "The mystic winds of Bluff's Cove have started. Who knows what is it saying? Only someone special can understand it." "Not me," said Cranky.
