Chapter One: Changes in the Wind

"Rosalinda M. Hawthorne, file access denied," JARVIS echoes through the common area of the large apartment for the third time in the last hour. Tony Stark, billionaire philanthropist, groans in frustration and downs the remaining brown liquid in his glass.

"Give it up, Tony," Steve remarks from his place on the couch, today's newspaper open on his lap.

"This girl," he gestures to me, sitting on the corner of the couch opposite Steve. "This girl knocked three—"

"Four," I interject, pretending to continue reading the novel in my lap, ignoring my growing irritation towards him.

"Four grown-ass men on their asses today. All of whom refused to return to training. Aren't you the least bit curious as to why or how that's possible?" Stark makes his way around the kitchen, his shoes echoing across the vast space of the living room.

"If they wanted you to know, they would tell us," Steve again remarks, looking up at me with an apologetic smile.

I smile politely back. It has been five months since I was given refuge at Avengers Tower. I was found six months ago north of the Canadian/North American border, with a vague memory of snow and an overwhelming desire to escape that desolate place lingering in my mind. The duration of the journey, I am not entirely certain, but it was long enough for Fury to catch wind of my activity, and within three days, I was being relocated to the New York Tower.

Apparently, my power has been triggering radar systems across Quebec. I even managed to cause damage to a satellite hovering over Hudson Bay, not that I have any idea where either of those places is. Fury's team found me at a gas station, wrapped in a knitted blanket, eating a dry sandwich. They loaded me into an SUV on my way to a facility. Natasha was the first person to speak to me and is currently the only person privy to the full extent of my rescue and the secrets that stayed behind in that forest.

In the days that followed, I found myself confined within a glass cage, enduring relentless rounds of questioning from agents. The intensity of these interrogations only amplified my anxiety. Soon after, I was hastily escorted onto a plane. The authorities deemed me only a "Mild Risk of Danger," lightening the security measures and placing me here.

That's good, I guess?

Upon my arrival at the tower, I was assured a training program to refine my powers, along with protection and security from SHIELD. Remarkably, the organization has stayed true to their promise. However, the information I share with them seems to open a case no one anticipates. As of now, the matter remains exclusively within Natasha, leaving me in the dark. It appears that the organization maintains a strict policy of non-disclosure, as even Tony Stark himself is unable to access any pertinent files or information pertaining to my case.

"What does the 'M' stand for anyway?" he inquires, replenishing his glass.

"It's just an 'M,'" I respond, closing my book with growing frustration at his insistent curiosity. My exasperation finds relief as the elevator chimes.

Natasha emerges from the elevator, walking down the stairs and joining us in the living room, followed closely by Clint, Fury, and Thor, whom I have only met a few times. She gives me a quick nod of acknowledgement, having only seen me a few hours prior. I nod back, looking between the three agents and the God.

"This looks serious," Tony smirks. Steve is about to accost Tony's behavior again but is swiftly interrupted by Fury.

"Romanoff, Barton, please sit down," he directs, his tone grave and authoritative.

Tony's cheerful demeanor fades, realizing the gravity of the situation. Fury and Thor exchange meaningful glances, hinting at an imminent revelation.

"Loki Odinson will return to Earth at eight this evening," Fury declares.

Before I can question who or what Loki is, my curiosity is drowned out by the cacophony of voices as the others erupt into a chorus of exclamations, causing them to rise from their seats in unison.

This can't be good.

Hi Readers!

I recently deleted a similar fanfic but decided I wanted to go a different direction with the story, so do not worry I have not ripped off anyone's story. . I have taken aspects from other fanfics that I loved and turned them into my own. I did have to reupload as i wa having trouble with formatting.

This is my first fanfic and attempt at writing, so please let me know how I'm doing. I would love to hear your thoughts and feedback, especially on where you think this story is going.
