Chapter Five: Earthly Enigmas (Loki's POV)

With a flash of emerald magic, I materialise my mind back into my designated room.

Sitting on the edge of the bed, I couldn't help but be astounded by Rose's quick wit and her infuriating ability to disrupt my meticulously crafted illusion. Centuries of perfecting that trick, and she effortlessly dismantled it. Impressive, I must begrudgingly admit.

I knew Rose would have something to say about my little nocturnal escapade, but I didn't expect it to be resolved so swiftly. Earlier this morning, the door to my room swung open, and Fury stepped inside, flanked by Banner and my brother, Thor. The room instantly became thick with confrontation. I remained seated in the armchair, exuding an air of poise and indifference, concealing the rebellious spark in my eyes.

Fury's gaze bore into me, stern and unyielding. The man embodied authority, but I met his stare with equal resolve. Thor's voice cut through the tension, tinged with annoyance and disappointment. 'Loki, you've been here less than twenty-four hours, and already you've breached security and pushed the boundaries,' he scowled down at me.

'The ever-watchful eye of S.H.I.E.L.D. Reminds me of Odin,' I replied, a sardonic smile curling on my lips.

My brother didn't appreciate my wit. He brandished Mjolnir, pointing it threateningly at my chest, the hammer pulsating with power. 'Do not test me, Loki,' he growled. 'Leave Rose alone. She doesn't need to be entangled in your mischief. She has her own struggles to contend with.'

'Very protective of your little Flower,' I smirked, goading him.

Distracted by Thor's intense gaze, I felt a clasp around my wrist. I turned to my left to find the apprehensive Banner, stepping back, and positioning himself behind Fury.

'Thank you for the 'gift,' but you can tell the Green One I prefer gold,' I sneered, my anger simmering.

'This will dampen your powers until you can learn to behave. Consider it a gift from Odin, with a few adjustments made on our end, of course,' Fury smirked, before striding out of the room, followed by Banner, leaving me alone with Thor.

I glared at my brother, seething with resentment, and he met my gaze with equal intensity. 'Listen well, brother,' he began, still keeping Mjolnir pressed against my chest. 'Rose is dealing with her own battles, ones that require support. I strongly implore you to stay away from her.'

'Where's the thrill in compliance?' I retorted, my smirk lingering.

'This is not about your amusement, Loki. Rose's well-being is at stake. She needs peace, stability. She's burdened with enough challenges, and she doesn't need the complications that your presence brings,' Thor implored, finally removing Mjolnir from my chest.

'Very well, Thor,' I nodded, feigning compliance.

He nodded in return, expressing his gratitude, and left the room. I waited until I was certain he had retreated far down the hallway before I conjured my illusion.

Currently as I sit on the bed, deep within the recesses of my mind, a flicker of curiosity ignites. What if Rose's power extends far beyond what she has revealed thus far? The audacity with which she challenged me, even in the face of my illusion even if weakened, hints at a hidden strength waiting to be unleashed. It raises a tantalising question – just how deep do her powers truly run? What other extraordinary abilities does she possess?'

My lips curl into a sly smile as I contemplate the possibilities. There is a certain allure in unravelling the secrets that lie beneath Rose's surface, exposing the depths of her potential. It is a challenge that pique my interest, an enigma I cannot resist.

The device on my wrist may attempt to suppress my true power, but it will not dampen my insatiable curiosity. With a mischievous glint in my eyes, I decide I'm going to delve deeper into this flower's mystery. I have already ignored Thor's warnings why not push it further?

Leaning back against the bed, I allow myself a moment of contemplation. I knew being sent back to earth was going to be a game for me, but this game has taken an unexpected turn. The consequences of my actions will surely catch up to me, but for now, I relish in this taste of rebellion, the lingering memory of our brief interaction.

Notes:

I know this chapter is a little shorter than usual, but I struggled writing Loki's POV. Would love some recommendations if anyone has any.
