Duncan's Adventures In The Valley
Duncan usually likes to do whatever jobs he wants to do. He normally likes to pull trains that are done very fast. "No big deal," Duncan often said. This is when he's trying not to be impatient. "I'm not sure," Sir Handel said in response. "I agree," Duke said.
One day, Duncan woke up to start another days work. "Duncan," the Thin Controller said, "I want you to take a goods train to the Culdee Mountain railway." "I will," Duncan said, "You can count on me!"
And so, Duncan left. He collected his goods train and set off immediately. "Aye!" Duncan said as his wheels slipped at first, "A tough job. But I'm not going to give up. I used to work at a factory."
"I hope Duncan knows what he's doing," Kaitlin said to herself. "Me too," Mighty Mac said. "I can do this!" Duncan said as he pulled way with his train.
A few moments later, Duncan chuffed along the narrow-gauge line happily. "Not too hard," Duncan chortled. "Don't get too carried away," said his driver.
Unfortunately, they made a wrong turn and they ended up someplace different.A valley, to be precise. But Duncan didn't notice this, until he saw an unfamiliar sight.
"A valley?" Duncan's driver thought as he put on the brakes. "Oh no!" Duncan cried, "Wrong place! I knew it! Now what?"
"I knew we've should have taken that right turn at the junction." "And we can't go back with this heavy train," the firemen said. "Then we'll find another way out of here," Duncan said.
So they decided to continue on forward. They chuffed all over the valley, but they had no luck. "I know this is not the way to Culdee Fell Mountain!" Duncan's firemen called.
"I know!" Duncan replied. They didn't know what to do now.
"Might as well be using mountains for a compass," Duncan's driver said.
However, they soon saw a mysterious ghostly figure on the railway line.
"What the heck?!" Duncan shouted, blowing his whistle. "My eyes deceive me!" the driver exclaimed.
"I can help you," the ghostly figure said mysteriously. "Proteus?" Duncan asked, "Is it you?" "Yes," the figure known as Proteus answered, "Follow me." "Then we will," Duncan's driver answered.
And so, they've followed Proteus."I hope so," Duncans firemen said. But Proteus vanished as soon as they were back on the main line. "We've made it!" the driver said. "Now let's go!" Duncan said.
In no time, they've made it to Culdee Fell Mountain station. Just in time. "Whew!" Duncan said, "We've made it. Well, that was a fun adventure, wasn't it?" "Yep," the driver and firemen agreed, "It was one heck of an adventure.""You can say that a lot of times," Duncan said.
When Duncan got home that night, he told his story to the other engines. "Wow," Skarloey said, "You had quiet and adventure." "Yeah," Peter Sam agreed. "I knew something like that would happen," Sir Handel said. "Talk about mysterious," Bertram said. "Yep," said Duncan, "It is quite a day."
