Chapter 9

Jamie's close call had been kept quiet, he noted, beyond Jeff whom Jamie had told himself, nobody amongst the student body seemed to know. But the Professors certainly did judging from the looks they sent his way and that gave him some relief as they were indeed keeping an eye out. Even with those concerns, Jamie was starting to join the other students in their building excitement as November settled in at Hogwarts and there was a buzz in the air due to opening of the Hogwarts Inter-House Quidditch Cup. This mini-league would have each of the four Houses Quidditch Teams taking each other on, with the winner winning the Quidditch Cup, the victory being base on the number of points rather than number of matches won. Each team faced the other three ones, resulting in six matches spread throughout the year, bringing a lot of excitement around the school. It was also a notable moment for Carla as it led to her getting to know one of her Housemates better. This person was noted for usually being quiet and focused, not drawing attention to herself in class and just working, while also showing that typical desire for expanding her knowledge and such of a true Ravenclaw. But now, Rachel Voight was enthusiastic and looking forward with great anticipation to the upcoming Ravenclaw match.

It had happened just as the Quidditch season started, Carla had awoken early, as was her norm, and got dressed before heading out to the Common Room. There she was surprised to not be the only one up, instead she saw a slightly older girl, a second year presumably, being of average height for her age with shoulder length dark brown hair, hazel eyes, tanned and with a slender but athletic build.

"Oh, morning." The girl greeted her. "I can't believe someone else is up, everybody usually takes a while, even my teammates."

Carla was a little taken aback at the girl's enthusiasm but did her best to reply.

"Um, yeah...I'm, I'm usually up this early." Carla explained. "You said, teammates, I'm guessing you're on the Quidditch Team?"

"That's right, Rachel Voight, nice to meet you." The girl replied quickly, grinning.

Carla nodded and sat down as Rachel began to talk about Quidditch, about the upcoming matches and her eagerness to get to the pitch, especially today, an early practice. Rachel was the newest member of the Ravenclaw Quidditch Team as a new Chaser. Carla was amazed at her outgoing and competitive nature, her eagerness for the sport.

"Wow, well, I hope things go well. Of course, we've still got to get through the Gryffindor and Slytherin game before we face Hufflepuff." She pointed out.

"Yeah, I know." Rachel replied, still grinning. "Still, not gonna stop me being excited. We have to wait till February for our next match, so being so close to our first is good enough for me."

Carla could only smile, the enthusiasm was infectious. Other students began to come down to the Common Room at that point, including the rest of the team so Rachel bid Carla farewell and hurried off with them to practice. Carla couldn't help but smile, the Quidditch excitement was widespread throughout Hogwarts and it wasn't going to fade for some time yet.

Following the first Quidditch Match which took place on the second weekend of November, Gryffindor won and was currently holding 190 points to Slytherin's 100. Now it was the fourth weekend of November and time for the Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff match. With the Quidditch Team already down at the pitch, getting changed into the blue robes they'd be playing in, Hufflepuff would be playing in yellow, the rest of the students in both houses were standing up from the tables in the Great Hall. The Gryffindors and Slytherins would also be going down to the pitch, albeit slightly behind the others, still there were smiles and excitement all around, the competitive air somewhat tempered by the overall delight in seeing a Quidditch match. Still nervous, despite there being no sign of that hooded individual since Halloween, Jamie took some comfort in the crowd, it would be hard for his pursuer to grab him unnoticed amongst all these people. He grinned at Jeff while passing, Jeff nodding, as he followed his fellow Hufflepuffs to the Quidditch Pitch to watch the match, hopeful for their team. Finally, before long, the stands were full, all the students and Professors were in their seats, Madam Hooch stood on the field with the box containing the four balls. As everybody watched, cheering and hollering, the two teams emerged and made their way to the center of the pitch to join Madam Hooch. After some strict instruction from Madam Hooch, the players mounted their brooms and kicked off as the balls were released and the game began.

The Ravenclaw Common Room was jubilant, the students all celebrating and enjoying their victory over Hufflepuff, it had been a tight situation with Hufflepuff being ahead at one point by 50 points, but Rachel showcased her skills excellently by scoring four out of the five goals Ravenclaw scored then their Seeker had caught the Snitch allowing them the victory and to take first place in the current league, having 200 points to Gryffindors 190, while Slytherin and Hufflepuff trailed behind with 100 each. Carla grinned as she watched Rachel at the center of the celebration. It certainly showed the excitement Quidditch brought and it was certainly something she'd look forward to again in February, however the next big thing to come to Hogwarts was of course the Christmas season, the first term would end in mid-December and then it would be rapidly approaching Christmas, a time for celebration for all at Hogwarts.

End of chapter, hope you enjoyed it, sorry if you wanted me to do an actual Quidditch match, I just don't think I could manage it, so skipped over it.
Anyway, read and review please.
