Stedward Edward

Today was a peaceful and beautiful day on the Island of Sodor and all the engines were working hard. In one hour, Edward had finished taking a goods train to Wellsworth yards. He had enjoyed doing his work throughout the whole hour.

"Alls in a days work," Edward smiled as he had been uncoupled from his train. His crew agreed with him. Just then, Billy and Kayla puffed in with their goods trains. "Wow," said Billy. "You must be strong," said Kayla. "For an old timer alike," Billy added in, but not in a teasing manner.

"Well," Edward said to the two tank engines, "I may be old, but I'm still useful." "Billy!" Kayla scolded. "Sorry," said Billy. "Anyway," said Edward, "This job was nothing to me. I've done it for many years." "We see," said Billy. "Right," Kayla agreed. "Well," said Edward, "It's time that I start up my next job." "Ok," said Billy "Go ahead." "Right," said Edward. "We're not stopping you, Edward," said Kayla.

And so, Edward left do pull his next passenger train. "Do you think that was all right to say that?" Kayla asked Billy. "Who knows?" Billy answered.

Later, Edward was told to pull a coal train to Culdee Fell Mountain Station. At the front of the train was Hector, a large coal hopper. "Hello," said Edward. "Hi," Hector called back, "I'm ready." "All right," said Edward, "Are you ready now?" "OH YES!" Hector answered in a loud voice. "Right," said Edward.

So Edward was coupled up to the train and he set time, Hector gave Edward no trouble at all. In no time at all, Edward arrived at Culdee Fell Mountain Station. "There," Edward said to Hector. "Not bad," said Hector, "Edward who is steady." "Ok," Edward replied.

After Edward had returned the empty coal trucks, including Hector back to the coal yards, he then took a broken waterwheel to a wood repair shop with no delays. Thus, Edward completed his job with no problems. "Well," Edward thought to himself, "It'll be better soon enough." His crew agreed.

After that, Edward had been given another job. This time was to take a heavy goods train to Vicarstown. "Too heavy," Edward's driver said, "I know. We do need help."

Edward agreed and that's when Arthur and Oliver arrived. "Well," said Edward, "Thank you for arriving." "We're ready, too," said Oliver. "Thanks for coming to help me," Edward said to the two engines. "Yes," Arthur replied. And without another word, the three engines started to take the goods train.

Meanwhile, Gordon was getting an order from the Fat Controller. "Gordon," the Fat Controller said to Gordon, "You are to take a scrap train to the smelters yard. Please leave at once." "What?!" Gordon exclaimed, "A scrap train?!" But there was nothing Gordon could do. "Looks like an express engine is on scrap duty," Bill teased.

"Oh, shut your mouths," Gordon groaned. "What did you say?" Ben asked, "Pile of old iron?" "Get out!" Gordon shouted at the twins. "Ok, pile of old iron," Ben teased. "Right," said Bill, "Rusty blue scrap iron." That's when Gordon made Bill and Ben leave by blowing smoke at them and blasting his whistle. "Little demons," Gordon grumbled.

Later, at Brendam Docks, Edward, Oliver and Arthur had passed by with his goods train. That's when Gordon chuffed by with his scrap train. "Well, I don't know what to say," said Arthur. Gordon had nothing to say, either. Cranky and Salty had nothing to say, too.

At Vicarstown, Edward, Arthur and Oliver had reached their destination. "Here we are," Edward said. "Yes," Oliver agreed." Edward and his friends had done a great job that day and by now, it was too late for the three to return to Tidmouth yards, so they slept at Vicarstown for the night. They all slept in a small goods shed.

Nonetheless, by the end of the day, Edward was satisfied with his and Oliver and Arthur's work. "That's how it's done," he smiled.

And when morning had arrived, Arthur and Oliver had already left. So Edward was left alone. Immediately, Edward set out on his first job of the day. But before Edward started, he saw Gordon sleeping in a small shed on a lonely siding.

"Must have been a long night for Gordon," Edward thought to himself. Gordon pretended to be fast asleep. He didn't want to talk about his experience.
