Now you knew one solid fact about yourself, you had died during the War of Wrath. Even if you could not trust Sauron, it had been confirmed by the book in Elrond's study. You spent much time thinking about all the different things this could mean for you. You could be an elf re-embodied, but if that were true why would Sauron and the nazgul know who you are? Had you been a powerful servant of evil? Or perhaps you were a powerful force of good, now vulnerable and able to be seduced by the dark lord due to your memory loss. There had to be something more, and yet there was no more to be found.
You considered the different possibilities of what it all could mean as the fall wore on, until finally, the scouting parties started to return from their trips. They brought back news of the locations of the servants of evil. Every day you waited and grew more excited and anxious for Legolas and Aragorn to return. You didn't know who you wanted to see more. You just wanted someone that you could discuss what you had learned with. You were also becoming weary of life at Rivendell and desired to see the lands that lay beyond. The sooner all the scouts returned, the sooner your real trip would begin.
Aragorn returned first. You ran up to him and hugged him. You tried to tell him that you needed to speak with him but he brushed you off the moment he saw Arwen, leaving you feeling hurt. 'Whatever, the mortals don't have long lives,' you angrily thought to yourself, turning and walking away from the two lovers.
Feeling bitter, you avoided Aragorn and decided you would wait for Legolas to return before speaking to anyone about what you knew. Aragorn did seek you out to try to speak with you. One week later, Legolas returned. He came back in the dead of night when no one was expecting him and surprised you while you were gazing up at the stars.
He grabbed you from behind and covered your eyes. He whispered in your ear, "guess who?"
"Umm... Sam?" you guessed, pretending not to know.
"Sam? He wishes he were this tall. Guess again."
"Glorfindel?"
"Glorfindel!?" Legolas removes his hand from over your eyes and turns you around. "Now do you know who I am?"
"Thranduil!"
Legolas makes a choking noise.
"All you elves look the same..."
"Aiweneth, no!" Legolas sounds hurt.
You place a hand on his cheek and caress his face. "Of course I know its you Legolas. How was your trip?"
"It went well. I didn't even see so much as an orc. How was your time here?"
"It was lonely. Elrond helped me search for information about myself but there was little to be found..."
Legolas raises an eyebrow, urging you to go on.
"There was one mention of one name... I think I was at the War of Wrath... I think I was killed there."
"What was the name?" he asks gently.
You look away, quickly trying to decide whether you should be honest with him. "Moraina," you whisper, as though you were afraid that the mere mention of it would cause the servants of Sauron to descend upon you.
"Moraina? Are you sure that is you?" Legolas questions. You realize that there was much that you hadn't told him before he left. You had never told him that the nazgul called you that when you had been wounded and then again when you had been taken on the road to Rivendell. You had never told him about your visions, you had merely called them dreams. Now you regretted avoiding Aragorn, at least he had already known of these things.
"That is what the nazgul call me..."
Legolas grows tense. "The ringwraiths called you that? Why didn't you tell me this before?"
"I'm sorry!" you cry. You turn and run back to your quarters, ashamed of yourself and scared by Legolas's reaction.
"Aiweneth!" he calls after you. He slowly follows you back to your quarters and knocks softly on the door. "Aiweneth, please, please speak to me." You open the door and let him in, wiping tears from your eyes. "Aiweneth," he says softly, "I'm sorry." He touches your chin and looks into your eyes. "Hearing about the ringwraths like that... it caught me off guard. Sometimes I still think about that night when you had almost become one of them. It still haunts me."
"I should have told you sooner, but I didn't know how to tell you. I was worried you and everyone else would think me to be evil."
Now it is his turn to wipe tears from his eyes. "Aiweneth, I would never think you to be evil simply because of that. You are filled with light, not darkness."
"If you truly believe that, you had better take a seat. There is much I need to tell you."
As Legolas sits down in one of the chairs by the window, someone else knocks on the door. You open it and find Aragorn standing there. You let him in. He does not seem surprised to see Legolas though he had only just returned from his scouting. "Legolas," he says, greeting the elf. Legolas nods back at him in acknowledgement.
You feel nervous. "I'm glad you're here Aragorn. I'm afraid I have not been completely honest with you either."
"You have been avoiding me," he replies matter of factly.
"I know. Just sit down and I'll tell both of you everything." Aragorn takes a seat in the chair across from Legolas, leaving you to sit on the windowsill. A tense silence spreads through the room. "Its so hard knowing where to start," you mutter to yourself, breaking the silence.
"From the beginning, of course," says Legolas.
"Of course," you say. 'But where is the beginning in my case?' you think, and then you decide on a starting point. "As Aragorn knows, I have had visions of Barad-dur, but what he doesn't know is that these are not just simple visions. I have... communicated... with Sauron himself." You glance at Aragorn, he looks shocked. "The first time I spoke to him was just after I had been poisoned on Weathertop. I was scared to tell anyone, so I kept it secret. I have spoken with him several times since then... He offered me my memories if only I would submit to him. I rejected, of course. I-I don't know how it works.
"The nazgul and Sauron, they both call me Moraina. Sauron thinks me stubborn. The Chief of the Nazgul, whose name I somehow happen to know, thinks that I need to learn obedience," you snort, morbidly. "Maybe its true. Apparently I was killed during the War of Wrath, the book in Elrond's study said it as did Sauron. I must be too stubborn to stay dead."
You finish explaining everything that has happened between you, Sauron, and the nazgul. You don't bother to mention that Sauron is actually quite attractive, you decide that that is best kept secret. No one says anything and the tense silence spreads over the room again. You feel relieved to finally get everything off your chest.
Aragorn and Legolas try to convince you to tell Gandalf and Elrond about this new information but you refuse to tell them, considering how you had lied to Elrond about Moraina and that you didn't quite know Gandalf very well. After some convincing, you agree to tell Gandalf about it at a later date of your choosing. This you only agreed to since the Fellowship will soon be embarking on their mission.
