The Guild of the Dragonborn
Chapter 4: Legends Alive

Disclaimer: I don't own Skyrim or any of the characters just the Guild's concepts.

Hidirion sighed as he stood up from the workbench he'd been laboring over. A small house stood before him, the walls of the structure and the skeleton of a roof hung above it. A small garden was laid out on the right hand side, and the foundations for three additions were also attached to the main building. Hi'er'lek slammed a hammer onto a piece of iron and created a set of door hinges which he handed to Shealin who attached them to the wall in an opening, forming the doorway. Sin'Hadir attached the doors and locked the hinges into the wood.

Viren and Diren carried in a large stack of logs to be cut by Tsunaya, and Wuu-Shin added to the pile of ores next to Hi'er'lek's forge, Hudein was standing at the mouth of a cave, a pickaxe in her hands waiting on Wuu-Shin. Shilaney and Shishinee approached the hut, a number of furs and skins hanging from their belts and shoulders.

Bord was standing by, his sword drawn and his shield raised. Pirien was standing on the opposite side of the site, her swords aglow with magic and at the ready. They'd been attacked by wild animals, giants, and the occasional wandering drove of Bandits looking for their own home.

The cave that Hudien and Wuu-shin were mining out was in fact home to a group of bandits. When they'd purchased the land from the Jarl of Falkreath they had been warned about the nearby bandits, but had ignored the warnings, assuming their skills would be able to keep them safe.

"Let's take a break!" Hidirion shouted and the whole group finished their tasks and set their tools down.

They approached their leader and produced food from each of their pockets and began to eat. Hidirion grabbed a sweet roll from inside his robe and began to eat as well. They'd been out building their base for the past few days, the work was coming along quickly as the whole of the guild was working together to help, but with Hi'er'lek the only one of them who was able to smith and create all the items they needed things were progressing slowly, Bord occasionally offered his help, but it seemed that when his hammer hit the metal a group of bandits or some hostile creature would wander in on them and attack.

"Things are coming along aren't they?" Hi'er'lek asked.

"It makes me wonder if we should just stay here instead of trying to find our way home," Hidirion said.

"Why?" Shishinee asked him.

"Think about it: Here, the people need hope, they need a sign that the Dragonborn is strong and able to help them, but back in our own worlds, who knows what would've happened?" Hidirion said.

Diren and Viren looked at each other before returning their gaze to Hidirion.

"I suppose that's true, but still, this doesn't sit well with me," Shealin said.

"Neither does it suit me," Sin'Hadir added.

"Maybe then we'll have to go our separate ways one day," Hidirion said.

"Let's hope that day doesn't come soon," Wuu-shin said aggressively.

"Yes, let's stop dwelling on such depressing subjects," Hudien said as she stood to return to work.

The group stood up with her, but then a voice broke their silence.

"Excuse me,"

The group turned to see a Courier standing before them.

"What is it?" Hidirion asked.

"I've got a letter addressed to 'The Guild of the Dragonborn', would that be you?" he asked.

"It would," Hidirion held his hand out and the Courier handed over the letter.

"Looks like that's it for now, take care," he said as he turned and left.

Hidirion unfolded the letter and saw that the sender was the Jarl of Whiterun: Balgruuf the Greater.

"Who's it from?" Tsunaya asked.

Hidirion read the letter without replying, he handed it to Hi'er'lek.

"Seems there's a dragon or two plaguing the country side of Whiterun, and the Jarl's asking for our help," Hi'er'lek said.

Hidirion looked around at the large group assembled before him.

"We can't all go, otherwise the house won't be done for a few more days, and we can't let it sit that long," Hidirion stated.

"Agreed, I think some of us should go, while the rest remain," Hi'er'lek said.

Hidirion nodded as he put his hand on his chin and began to think of who to send.

"Bord," he said.

"Alright," he replied stepping over to Hidirion's other side.

"Shilaney," Hidirion said.

Shilaney nodded as she stood next to Bord.

"Hudien,"

The Dark Elf stood at Bord's side and waited.

"Viren, and Diren," The twins joined the sending group.

"The rest of us will stay here and finish the house," Hidirion said.

"I would like to make a request," Shealin said, stepping forward.

Hidirion and Hi'er'lek looked at each other, then at the Khajit.

"Yes?"

"I would like to volunteer for the leading of this mission, as a leader of the Thieves Guild I think I would be best suited to this role, instead of Bord as a member of the Companions,"

Hidirion looked to Bord, "Would you be willing to follow under Shealin's command?"

"I would follow any of you three without question, and I know most of the Guild agrees with me,"

The others nodded to confirm the fact.

"Alright then," Hidirion said.

The group that was being sent out on the mission gathered a few days' worth of food before setting out. They waved good-bye as they traveled down the path from the house toward Whiterun, knowing it would be a three day journey. The others who remained set back to work on the house, the work proceeded slower than before, with some of their labor gone off to fight the dragons.

Meanwhile, with the group that had left, they were making their way down the path toward Whiterun when they saw a road sign that marked Helgen to the east. Shealin examined the sign, setting off on the path toward the abandoned city.

"Where are you going?" Bord asked.

"I must see for myself the destruction we witnessed in our worlds, I want to see what happened in this one," he replied.

The group looked at each other only for a moment, then jogged to catch up to Shealin. They traveled for a few hours before arriving at the gates of the city. Shealin looked at the lock and sneered.

"Such a lock, do they really expect to keep anyone out?" he asked as he crouched down and picked it with ease.

The doors flung open easily as Shealin pushed on them. The group made their way inside, weapons drawn and ready.

"Well, what do we have here?" A male voice called to them.

They turned and saw three figures approaching them: Two nord women, one with red hair wearing Steel armor with a pair of steel swords, the other wearing a fur robe with a flames spell in her right hand, oakflesh in her left. The third was a Breton male wearing fur armor with a bow in his hands.

"Take what they have!" he called.

The red-haired woman rushed forward, but Shilaney stepped forward and fired an arrow into her leg, downing her. She screamed in pain as she tried to remove the projectile.

"Andria!" The other nord shouted.

"Shut yer trap and start shooting your fire!" The leader shouted as he released an arrow.

Bord caught it on his shield as he charged toward him. The girl tried to fire off a flames spell, but Bord used the flat of his blade to shove her arm upward, he slammed his shield into her sending her sprawling on the floor. The Breton fired a pair of arrows, but missed both shots, Shilaney fired another arrow and hit him straight in the head, killing him.

Andria and the other woman looked up at their former opponents.

"Why didn't you kill us?" Andria asked as she stood.

The black haired woman groaned.

"Lili!" Andria shouted, rushing over and grabbing the girl, lifting her up.

"What was that?" Lili asked.

"You ok sis?"

"Yeah, just, that shield," She said shaking her head slightly.

"You two shouldn't be here," Bord said as he sheathed his sword.

"Well, we're Bandits, where else are we supposed to be?" Andria asked.

Shealin thought about it for a moment, "I assume you're a witch, and your red-haired, loud-mouthed sister is a warrior of some kind?"

Andria growled as she reached for her sword, she gasped in pain, and surprise as Shealin had one of his dagger's at her throat.

"That's correct," Lili replied.

"Then come with us, we could use more for our group," Bord said.

"What?" Lili asked.

"We're from the Guild of the Dragonborn, perhaps you've heard of us?" Diren asked.

"I've heard a few rumors spreading around that a large number of Dragonborn have appeared," Lili said.

"That's true, that's who these people are," Viren said, indicating the rest of the group, except Diren.

"I find that hard to believe," Andria said.

Bord looked at the sky, he leant down "Fus!" a large shockwave skyrocketed into the air, sending birds sputtering downward.

Andria and Lili were wide-eyed, they looked at the group, "Then, you're really, all Dragonborn?"

They nodded.

"So, about our offer," Shealin said.

Lili stood up and bowed to Shealin, "I would be honored to serve the Dragonborn," She said.

Andria scoffed before looking Shealin in the eye, "Give me one chance to slit your throat and it's done," She said, "but I'll serve you until then,"

"Of course," Shealin said with a bow.

The group, now with the additions of Lili and Andria, made their way out of Helgen, after Lili took all the food and valuable resources from their stores. They left the bandit's body lying in the rubble as they closed the gates.

Andria was healed with one of Lili's spells, and the group continued on at a normal pace. Eventually the group reached Riverwood, there, Shealin purchased armor from Alvor for Lili.

"If we're to hunt Dragons, you can't wear simple furs, they don't provide enough protection." He said.

She took the leather armor and disappeared into a back alleyway to change. She returned a moment later and sold her fur armor.

"We'll get you some wizard robes when we return to the Guild hall," Bord said.

She nodded, and the group entered the Sleeping Giant inn, there they spent the night, and in the morning set out for Whiterun, they arrived in twenty minutes and reported to the Jarl, from there they were sent to the mountain of Shearpoint where the Dragon was supposed to be living. They arrived in three hours and were at the altar.

"Here we are," Shealin said.

The Dragon seemed to hear him, it rose up and roared a challenge before taking flight. The group readied their weapons when they heard a cracking sound. Shealin looked down to see a figure rising from a nearby coffin, a mask covering its face, and a staff in its hand

"What is that?" Shilaney asked.

"I don't know, but leave it to us," Diren said as he readied his crossbow, he aimed down the sights and fired into the thing's chest, staggering it. Viren turned into her vampire form and disappeared in a swarm of bats, she appeared again in front of the monster and slashed at it with her claws. Her wings flapped once as she took to the air and summoned a Gargoyle to help fight.

Lili, ignoring her allies attacks, released a barrage of flames toward the monster, dealing damage as Andria rushed forward, a two-handed sword at the ready to cleave through the thing's armor.

Meanwhile, the rest of the group were busy fighting the dragon. Bord watched as it soared over head. Hudien shot a few balls of fire at it, while Shealin waited in hiding. Shilaney released arrow after arrow, eventually it crashed into the ground, Bord was on it immediately, sinking his blade into its armored hide, Shealin snuck up on its rear and slashed, the sudden attack sending a shock through its body, killing it. The other monster was downed a few minutes later, the assistance of the dragon group making the job faster. When they finished they looted the bodies, and discovered a new word of power, they inscribed it and led the way back to Whiterun, they reported to the Jarl about all they had seen and done, the Jarl thanked them and rewarded them with two-thousand gold for the Guild. They thanked him and began to make their way back.

"Seems things are beginning to look up, huh sis?" Lili asked as they went down the road toward Falkreath.

"Yeah, I suppose I could get used to this whole 'heroine of Skyrim' theme," She said with a smile.

The group was waiting for them at the top of the next hill. They rushed up and found a completed house with three wings waiting for them.

"This is home," Shealin said as he approached. The doors opened and Hidirion, along with the other members who'd stayed behind approached, waiting to hear news of the groups adventures. The outing group introduce Lili and Andria, Hi'er'lek sized up the warrior before leading her to his forge, the same went for Hidirion and Lili as he led the witch to his storage closet for some robes to fit her. The rest of them took a deserved rest in the Guild' interior, enjoying the sight of food, fun, and company from their fellow Guild members.

Ok, this was basically a test chapter to get back into writing in the 'Skyrim' style, now comes the fun part: I'm asking for you, the readers, to leave a review or PM your idea for the Guild's next job, it can be from any hold, or other source (Imperial Legion/Stormcloaks, Bard's College, Companions). Whatever you want, but you need to leave the job, where they're going, what for, and who you want to see go on the mission. The sooner I get relies, the sooner I start the next chapter. Until then, "May the ground quake as you pass."
