New chapter is here! Took me a while to convince myself not to delay the new chapter because I'm seriously lazy.
Again, I'm not the owner of Evangelion. And it might not be the last time i said this because this is some sort of unspoken running joke in this community.
Thank you for reading, enjoy this chapter if you can.
p/s: I wrote this while hearing "One Last Kiss" lol
Chapter 1: Uncle Shinji and Sachiel, Angel of Water.
Opening its eyes against the empty space, Unit-01 stared at the Earth as it slowly disappeared, out of its sight. Then it's gone.
Silence.
As the gigantic purple mecha-looking angel-cyborg carrying the red spear floating in space, Yui Ikari, " the so-called Last Testament of Humanity" sighed.
"Why did I do this in the first place?"
Opening her eyes, rather, EVA 01's yellow eyes.
"I just ran away like a coward."
"Again."
Tears began to form on Unit-01's eyes, as it was slowly drifting into the vastness of space.
Closing its eyes one last time, Unit-01 returned to its slumber once again.
Then everything was gone. Vanished from existence, Yui disappeared alongside with EVA-01 without even realizing her efforts were in vain after all.
"Will you try again?"
A flicker of hope appeared, as a spear appeared in front of her eyes. The red spear trembled slightly, before flying towards the Earth once again to fulfill its duty.
...
Man, this is taking so long.
"Misato, are we going in the right way?" I asked, only to be replied with incomprehensible grunts from the purple-haired Captain Katsuragi. Sighing for the fifth time in a row, I tried to do something to pass the time.
Well, a reintroduction might do it.
Ahem, so, as you all know, the name's Shinji. A being from outer space, got vaporized by a Big Bang explosion and lost his besties Adam(who was a brother to the one caused the Big Bang), and currently got reincarnated as a human named Shinji Ikari. Funny, right?
Well, it isn't. Being a human isn't easy like Adam said. Staying with Ikari's teacher has teached me a lot of things. Mostly about relationships between humans. How it can be good sometimes. How it can be bad sometimes, and we can do things to fix it.
"Nothing is out of reach if you are brave enough." Wise word from him, I thought.
Maybe one day I can meet Adam again. He did told me that he would come back, after all.
The blue circle of light appeared on my chest, shining briefly before disappearing again, as if Adam nodded to my thoughts.
The circle is kinda active today. For the past ten years, it didn't appear much, but today it has appeared more than twice, which is a good sign. I hummed softly.
Out of boredom, I decided to tap into my powers again. It has been a while since the last time I used it.
Hmmm...finally.
A dark triangle appeared on my palm. It is kinda small compared to what I created before, but it's good that I haven't gotten rusty at creating stuffs. Spinning the triangle aroung my hand, it stopped and disappeared suddenly when a sudden yell echo'ed in the car.
"We made it!" Misato broke into a cry, swiping the teary eyes with her hands. Poor Misato, must have been desparate to escape this modernized inescapable military maze. I stared at her, shooting a disappointed glare. It backfired, because after that she hugged me and used me as a nose wipe.
...
I can get used to this feeling. Warm, soft, and she smells nice.
"Stop that." The blonde woman in lab coat scolded the still sobbing Misato. "You are making a mess on the Third Child."
"Me?" I pointed my finger at myself, confused. The woman in lab coat nodded.
"The name is Ritsuko Akagi, I'm the head scientist here." Ritsuko carefully rubbed her chins, looking at me. "You look exactly like Commander Ikari when he was young as you."
"I'm Shinji, Shinji Ikari. You can call me Shinji." I bowed, offering a hand shake.
"You can call me Doctor Akagi, it's a pleasure to meet you." Forming a smile on her face, she shook my hand.
"Likewise." I answered.
Staring at the slogan "God's in his heaven— / All's right with the world!" placed on the wall, I feel the urges to say something.
'Couldn't you pick a better slogan? The slogan doesn't fit in here at all...' Mentally sighing and facepalming, I turned his attention to the blonde woman.
"So, this is your secret base? This looks very flashy for a secret base, you know." I tried to make a conversation. Luckily, Doctor Akagi nodded at my awful attempt at creating one.
"Not really a secret base. This is NERV-Japan, one of NERV's headquarters located all over the world, the international organization created specifically for defending mankind from Angels after the Second Impact." She explained. "This headquarter is also the center of operation and researching projects." She stopped before the light was turning on, revealing a giant purple mecha standing on its launch pad.
'And that's Unit 01, the hope of mankind at defeating the Angels. It's still a prototype though, but it's usable." She looked at me at the corner of her eyes, which I pretended not to notice her doing that.
"Woah." Faking a bewildered tone, I tried to compare it to Adam.
So this is Unit 01 Adam told me about. Look pretty cool, I guess. I don't really like the purple and green coloring though. If it was painted in black, it would be a lot more scarier and cooler, I thought to myself. It also took some inspirations from Adam, as its form is similar to Adam, minus the light core flickering lights on the chest.
"Huh? Is it breathing?" I was surprised as Unit 01 was trying to breathe silently, barely making armor's chestplate move. I sensed a faint sign of life inside it, resembling a soul. Everyone seemed to ignore notice it though.
The soul vaguely resembles another woman in lab coat, but she looks like a grown-up version of the blue haired bandaged girl I saw, and instead of blue hair, she has brown hair like me. And the eyes were similar to me. Hm...
Eh, it's probably nothing. It's surely just a coincidence.
"No, dummy, it's just a giant robot! It's totally not a monster clone wearing armor and pretending to be a lifeless weapon that can make its pilot feel its pain!" Misato blurted out, cutely waving her hands disproving the statement, while Ritsuko tried to avert her eyes to not meet my gazes.
...
"It is alive, right?"
"...Yes." Ritsuko said, completely ignoring my stares. I sighed in frustration.
So she knew about that. I snickered.
"Well, where is our pilot for Unit 01? Surely you are not going to make a fourteen-year-old like this little poor me pilot a gigantic monster clad in purple and green colored armor to fight that thing outside, right?" I joked a bit.
"..."
"You gotta be kidding me." Reading that out loud in perfect English, I let out a long sigh.
So, I'm the Third Child, a pilot of this... EVA-01. Somehow, I got reincarnated in the body of the boy who was the key to Third Impact. How did I know this? Adam told me about this before.
"Really? Of all the humans I could have been reincarnated into, I got to be this boy? Really?"
What a terrible fate.
I should have expected this after getting a ride to NERV. I really am Shinji Ikari, the human who decided the world's fate. Great. Just great.
"And I thought it was a concidence. Screw this. Can I leave now?"
Calm, Shinji, calm. You got this. I got this.
But before I was able to say anything at all, a voice far above me spoke.
"Sorry, but that is the case for you, Shinji. It has been a long time."
"Dad?" I guessed, looking at the room Gendo Ikari was sitting in, his face was completely emotionless.
"Prepare for launch EVA-01." Ritsuko nodded at the command and quickly left the scene.
"Eh?" I and Misato shook our head at the same time.
"Are you serious!? You are going to make Shinji pilot Unit-01 instantly!? It took Rei seven months to even activate Unit-00!" Misato disagreed.
This guy really has no emotions to his son, huh? I thought. Just like his mother.
"Sure. That thing outside is coming here, right? We better make it quick before something terrible happens." I said bravely, causing Misato to look at me surprised.
"...Right." Gendo fixed his glasses before turning away his gazes to the monitor.
Did he just hesitate to tell me something?
"Woah, Shinji, I didn't know that you got that spirit in you." Misato looked at me in admiration. "You are a brave kid, I'll tell you that much."
"Thanks, I guess? Also, Dad!" I yelled. "Can we meet sometimes after I kick this monster's ass to oblivion? I have a lot of things to ask you!"
"...Sure." Gendo muttered, and the tall old man laughed a bit. "You have gotten soft, huh?" The old man poked Dad's shoulder. Commander Ikari ignored both of us and started working on something else, clearly trying to retreat.
The reunion could have been better though. I didn't have a clear memory about Shinji Ikari's father. Maybe we could create a new kind of father-son relationship.
...Well, that's a start anyways. We can work on it later. For now...
"Shinji, this way." Misato grabbed my hands before sprinting to our work place. "Let's finish our job quickly, and I will have a word with your father."
It went quite well, I'd say that.
"Are you ready, Shinji? You're surprisingly calm." Misato's voice blasted through the speaker, feeling the small space.
The seat in Unit 01 is quite comfortable, I like it. Patting myself lightly on the cheeks, I shook my head.
'Must stay focused.' I silently thought.
The orange oxygenated liquid began to pour all over my body, and it began to fill up the entry plug.
"It is funny. I have to drink this thing?" I asked.
"No, breathe it in. It's fine, you will be able to breathe in it." Doctor Akagi said. I nodded, and tried to breathe.
To my surprise, it tastes like blood.
"Ergh, this stinks like blood. But I can work with it." I complained.
"Good. Now you are connected to EVA-01. Imagine you are it and try to move."
A small window appeared on the screen.
[Sync ratio: 40,1%]. Okay, that's cool, I guess? "I'm doing great, am I?" I moved my legs, and Unit 01 stood up.
"Yes, you are." Ritsuko said."The current sync ratio is holding steady at 40,1%. Impressive."
"Perfect! Shinji, we are about to launch EVA 01. Take a minute to ready yourself." Misato ordered me to wait professionally, I answered with a nod at the monitor camera. I could hear the relieved sigh from her through the built-in speaker.
"Woah." Trying to move the legs òf the giant purple cyborg, I realized that I can also use my hands to control the EVA's hands.
As if EVA 01 was my second body.
Hmm...
Concentrating...
I'll try to recreate my black light fields.
If this was a massive monster cyborg, there is a chance that I can also create stuffs with it. I can just extend the control of my soul to it.
[Sync rate: 38,5%]
...Something is off.
The EVA is resisting my control?
Must be the woman's soul I saw earlier. Forcefully overriding her authority over EVA 01, I successfully controlled the purple monstrosity.
"W-what!?" The soul said, clearly confused.
"Sorry, but this is mine now." Appearing in front of the bewildered soul, I pushed her out of the red core. Creating a black energy field from my hand, I trapped her inside. It isn't the time for debating whether it is morally right to take a body of someone.
I looked back at the giant red orb.
"It really is an Angel, huh?"
It also has two more smaller copies of itself at both side. Interesting.
Oh well, let me insert a little bit of myself into them.
[Sync ratio: 55,3%]
"Shinji, your sync rate just increased by 16,8%! What happened?" Ritsuko asked with a concerned tone.
"I dunno. I just felt more... comfortable, I guess?"
"That explained it. Sync ratio is often affected by the pilot's emotional state. Being comfortable might have something to do with it." Misato chimed in. Ritsuko was silent again.
They can see the sync ratio? Oh no, looks like I can't insert myself in EVA 01 too much. Alright, I will do this later when no one is around.
"Ready for launch, kiddo? You are about to be launched in 5, 4, 3..."
'Let's do this.'
"EVA-01, launch!"
The purple cyborg was launched like a rocket to the surface.
"I'm going to fall to the ground!" I yelled.
"Relax, Shinji. Try to maintain your balance." Misato calmly intructed me. Swallowing my saliva, I tried to jump to the ground.
Huh. It isn't that painful as I expected.
"You good, champ?" I nodded. "Good. Try to take a step. Just think about moving."
"Okay." I tried walking.
"Mhmm. You're doing great! See that monster outside?"
"What's about it?"
"We call it an Angel." Misato said.
I stopped.
"What?" I asked again. "What do you mean "Angel"? That thing is some sort of monsters straight from some low-budget horror movies!" I shouted.
"Ask my superiors. Hell if I know if why it was called Angels in the first place." Misato shrugged. "But hey, it's not a big deal. Grab the Pallet Rifle over there and try to use it on the Angel."
'It IS a big deal! That might be one of Adam's children! I ain't gonna hurt my best friend's children, yo!'
"...Fine."
"What are you sulking about? It's destroying the damn city! Grab the gun and use it!"
"Hrgh." I grunted before grabbing the gun. It is quite heavy.
Oh wait, I don't know how to use a gun.
"Shinji, aim at the red core! It's the angel's weakness!"
Ignoring Misato's instructions and throwing the rifle away, I rushed into it and...
"RIDER KICK!" I jumped and landed a kick on the face. Knocking the Angel with Unit 01's legs out, I tried to pin him to the ground.
The Angel suddenly extended its arms and grab Unit 01, but I avoided the hug successfully thanks to the slim body Unit 01 has, and deliver a sucker punch at the beast. Backing down, the Angel seemed to show signs of fatigue.
I smirked. Good. This is my chance.
"Hello. Anyone here?" I shot my message via the telepathy line.
"LILIN?" A great voice made its way to my mind. Great, I succeeded.
"No, it's Shinji." I said. "The name is Shinji. Nice to meet you."
Oh right. The Angels named us Lilins because humans are children of Lilith, the Second Angel. I see.
"SACHIEL DON'T THINK GREETING IS A GOOD WAY TO MAKE UP FOR YOUR "RIDER KICK" TO SACHIEL'S FACE, SHINJI." The beast seemed to be angry. Of course.
"Sorry, I have to do it because you were wreaking havocs in our place. What is your goal here, Angel?" I asked. "I suggest telling the truth. I don't want to hurt people for nothing."
The Angel went silent for a bit, before speaking again.
"I'M SACHIEL, WATER OF GOD, SON OF ADAM. SACHIEL IS HERE TO REUNITE WITH LILITH ON THE FATHER'S ORDER. SACHIEL SUGGEST YOU LILINS SHOULD BACK DOWN AND LET SACHIEL COMPLETE HIS GIVEN TASK." Sachiel said proudly, the red core was practically shining.
So he really is one of Adam's sons, huh?
"So uh, can I say something before I went back to my place?"
"SURE. SACHIEL JUST WANT TO COMPLETE THE TASK AND GO MEET FATHER. YOU LILINS ARE GETTING IN THE WAY. TELL YOUR KIND TO STOP ALL OF THIS AT ONCE."
"I'm sorry for what I am about to do." I said, before charging my power into Unit 01.
"! BLACK LIGHT!? WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO DO, LILIN!?" Sachiel stared at my(or rather, Unit 01's) arm, as a shadow was slowly coating it.
"This is going to hurt a lot, but trust me, better than death."
The black light shined briefly for a moment, indicating that my finisher move has already been finished.
Unit 01 took a stance, and the orb inside my palms was completed.
Sachiel let out an inhuman scream and ran toward me, extending his hands to block the move.
Sadly, his effort went in vain.
[Sync ratio: 1200%]
Grabbing the orb inside my right palm, I smirked.
And then I punched Sachiel lightly.
"GWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!?"
The orb bursted into a stream of black light, reducing Sachiel's gigantic torso to minicules.
There was no sound. No one could have seen the black orb, as it can only be seen by me and Sachiel.
For the people who were watching the whole event unfold, they only saw Sachiel upper torso was disappeared in an instant. Vaporized. Not even a single cell in Sachiel's upper body remained intact.
The lower body failed to comprehend what just happened, so it stood there. Too shocked, huh?
"Uuh, mission completed?" I said to the microphone.
Silence.
Where is the applause, everyone? Hey, don't be silent! I just did a cool move!
"Hello? Anyone there? Misato? Doctor Akagi? Please?"
Silence again.
...Oh boy. What have I done? I accidently went all out.
Aaand that's it, folks! Kinda ended it abruptly cuz i didn't know what to write next.
thanks for reading and have a good day!
