weee chapter 3 is here! I'm having a lot of exams at the moment, so I won't update as regularly as I am now.
another music recommendation: REVOLUTION, from Kamen Rider Ryuki.
Let's start, shall we?
p/s: a little proper reintroduction of our main cast is at the end of the chapter, and it will contain a lot of information about this story. Read it if you want to understand fully about this crappy mess of a fanfic.
As always, I do not own NGE. Thank you for reading.
Chapter 3: A place to call home.
Opening the can of melon soda, I took a sip of it before letting out a sigh of satisfaction. The taste of the soda gradually lifted my mood, and I wiped my mouth with my right hand. This soda is surprisingly good.
"It's not that I hate it or anything, but if this was a little less sweet it would be my new favorite drink." I muttered to myself, throwing the empty soda can to the nearby trash can. Standing up from the bench, I stretched my back a bit before starting to walk again.
Now, back to my original goal for coming here. Walking to a dark alley, I silently murmured.
"Sachiel, you awake? Can I talk to you now?"
...No response. Look like he's still in his slumber. I must have caused quite a lot of damage to him. Argh, damn it. Maybe I went a little overboard. I could have just absorbed his soul the moment I took it out, but that would delay his recovery further.
Nevermind that. I should look for a place to spend the night. Blending in with the people passing by in the city, I begin my journey to find shelter for tonight.
Tokyo-3 was big as hell. Walking through stores and buildings, I felt like I was just a tiny ant in a giant nest. The people around me moved constantly, everyone were so busy at their respective works except for me. Standing alone at a crossroads, I looked up to the sky.
...No star. What a pity.
The city was so lively, yet I felt a little bit empty inside.
I'm truly alone now. No friends, no family, just a lonely kid standing here, head hung low.
Although there are a lot of people here, but I couldn't talk to them as if they were my friends. To them, I'm just some random kid barging in their ways to gain some attention.
...
Quickly shaking off my thoughts, I ran to the other side of the street.
Kinda ironic, isn't it. Before I reincarnated into Shinji Ikari, I was alone for a long time, until Adam flew at me like a meteor and befriended me. And now I'm suddenly alone again, with nobody by my side.
My chest suddenly tightened as if someone grabbed it forcefully. I felt a lump in my throat, I wanted to scream in vain, hoping to find an acquaintance in this strange city. But none of it would come out. Pathetic.
I walked my way to a small motel on the other side of the road. Luckily, I brought just enough money to stay here for a night.
"Thank you for using our service!" Giving the receptionist a nod, I headed to my assigned room.
For now, I just want to end this day as fast as possible.
At another place, someone has just awoken from their sleep.
"What are you thinking about?" Asked the mysterious voice of The Spear of Longinus in her head.
"Erm, I don't know." Yui Ikari, now fully awake on her bed, responded to the inhuman voice in her head.
"Don't lie. You know that you can't lie to your companion."
"...Right." Yui Ikari closed her eyes once again, "You saw through me again."
"Yeah. So, spit it out. We are allies now, remember?"
"Yeah yeah, I know that. It's just that it's so...what should I say it, normal. Yeah, I feel so normal. But I don't dislike this feeling."
"Good. You have succesfully returned to the past via EVA-01. Or rather, a different 'past'."
"Wait, what?"
"Unit 01 has your soul AND body, remember?" The voice let out a small chuckle and began to explain. "As long as your souls remain the same, you can fuse two identical souls into one. You have officially become this timeline's Yui."
"Eh?" Yui was dumbstruck. "What do you mean-" She was abruptly cut off by the voice.
"Souls. The very essence of existence. Essence Of Lilith and the Souls are the materials to make a living being alive. Humans are no exception." The voice explained. " LCL (the primodial soup of life) and Essence Of Lilith are the same thing, but different in shapes and forms. The thing you called A.T Fields are parts of the Essence Of Lilith, preventing you to revert to your original form, known as LCL."
"Children Of Lilith... Of course." Yui nodded her head mentally. "What about Souls, then? Tell me more about it."
"...No one knew where the Souls came from. Wanna know a fun fact?" After a moment of silence, the voice said something Yui didn't expect to hear. "You are just a facade, a mask worn by your Soul."
"What?"
"I said, no one knew where the Souls came from. Not even Adam, not even Lilith." The voice repeated itself. "I am one of the few beings who can perceive souls, but I couldn't affect them with my powers. Once freed from its prison, Souls can practically go through space and time if their consciousness remains. They are really annoying to deal with sometimes."
"What do you mean by that? Have something similar happened before? Uwah, your answers only make more questions!" Yui said with a frown on her face.
"Classified information. Anyways, you're safe and all now. Should we focus on our plan?"
"...Riiiight."
It's time. Opening her right palm, she muttered.
"Begin Plan A."
A red orb appeared on Yui's right palm, shininng brightly before it started to float, and flew to the sky through the window. The sphere gradually split in half, then again in four, and so on until sixteen red spheres appeared in the sky. Turning a few times, they parted and flew towards the horizon.
Yui smiled.
This will be her redemption to the world.
At a different place, something bizarre has happened. As Shamshel was still resting, a small red orb made its way to the Angel's resting place. Hovering over her cocoon for a second, it entered Shamshel, going through her A.T Fields as if they were nothing.
A crack appeared on the cocoon.
Shamshel felt something was empowering her. Filled with her new powers, Shamshel began to shift. Her monstrous body is slowly changing into a much more human form. Her massive core had been greatly reduced to a small red sphere, covered under her human skin. As the cocoon was slowly disappearing into the thin air, the figure of a naked red-haired woman was gradually revealed.
Opening her mouth, she spoke for the very first time.
"I'm coming for you, Shinji."
The moon was shining brightly that night.
"Yawn..."
Well, that was certainly some good rest. Full of energy, I jumped out of the bed.
I still have a long day ahead. Still wearing my old clothes from yesterday, I hastily collected my stuffs and put it in the bag.
After paying for the room, I walked out of the motel. Now, back to business. I should probably return to my cell now. If they found out I have escaped, I will be in great trouble.
...Wait a minute. Where is NERV's headquarter anyways? All I can remember about it was...underground?
"Also, where the hell am I?" I spoke my thoughts out loud, causing people to look at me curiously. Unconcerned by their gazes, I ran away in frustration.
I have wandered in this city a little bit too much. I'm still new to this city, so there's no one I can think of who can help me in this situation.
Heck, I don't even have a phone to call anyone. What should I do!?
Day two, and I'm lost. And I don't even have any paper on me to prove that I'm a EVA pilot or a NERV employee.
I can still look for Misato-san's apartment, but that would take hours. And I don't have all the time in the world right now.
Anyone? Anyone can help me? Please?
Somehow, I managed to find a small park. Settling down on the bench, I sighed deeply.
Can anyone just show up magically and show me the way to NERV? Please? Anyone?
I suppose asking for NERV's location would be worth a shot. Sitting on the bench, a lot of thoughts went through my head.
I have three options.
First option: Ask some police officers. Though I doubt they knew the location.
Second option: Throw a tantrum so that NERV can find me. Not a wise choice. I don't want to be in prison for causing a commotion in public.
Third option: Ask the guys in black who are hiding in the bush behind me. They even have NERV's logo on their clothes. Probably the best option.
Hmm... You know, what the hell are those guys in black doing in those bushs anyways? They know that I can see them, right? I looked at one of them, and saw that the guy was surprised. He knew I was looking at him.
"Um, misters? I don't recall being on the government's watchlist, so why are you guys watching over me?"
"..."
"Hello? I can still see you guys. Don't try to run away." I said, seeing the two agents trying to escape. They froze instantly.
"..."
"Hey, don't give me the silence treatment! I'm talking to you guys!" Angered, I stood up and walked to the bush. "You guys are NERV's employees, right? I'm The Third Child! Show me the way to NERV's headquarter!" I demanded.
They looked at eachother, and turned their heads at me. I stood with my arms crossed, while raising an eyebrow at them.
Another moment of awkward silence.
"You guys are getting on my nerves, y'know?" I said. "Just show me the way to NERV. I'm lost. Can't you help the Third Child, one of the EVA pilots? He kinda needs a hand right now."
"Y-yes." The brown-haired guy in black answered. "Sorry, this is the first time I meet one of the pilots. I wasn't sure if you was really the Third Child or not. You must be Shinji Ikari, correct?" The guy stood up, straightening his back while still maintaining eye contact.
"Indeed I am. Sorry for yelling at you, I was kinda frustrated back there. Sorry for that." I bowed my head apologetically. He waved his hand.
"No, it's nothing. Right Ken?" He poked his silent co-worker who has been looking at me the whole time. Both of the guys nodded. "I'm Tadama. This guy over here is Ken, my co-worker and friend. We are Section 2's agents." He introduced himself and his friend, smiling.
"I'm Shinji Ikari, the Third Child." I reintroduced myself in a much nicer tone. Tadama-san offered a handshake, and I shook his hand. "I'm still new here, so I hope I can learn a bit about this place. I will be in your care, Tadama-san, Ken-san." I bowed my head once again.
"Sure, Shinji-kun. Ken, call the higher-ups to send someone to replace us today. C'mon, let's go." The agent grabbed my hand and dragged me to his motorbike.
Well, one problem solved.
Let's just hope no one noticed my absence.
"We're here." Tadama-san said, slowly opening his helmet.
That was quick than I'd expected. Taking off my helmet, I followed him to the headquarter. I was being looked at a lot by other employees, but I don't mind it.
We made our way to the office, but someone unexpected had appeared.
"Vice Commander Fuyutsuki." Tadama-san muttered, looking at the man who was wearing a dark reddish-brown uniform.
Oh, it's the white-haired old man who stood beside my father.
"Sir." Tadama straightened his back. "We found the Third Child wandering around Tokyo-3. Here he is." Tadama pushed me forward.
"Oh, sir, I'm Shinji Ikari. I was-" Not knowing anything to say, I tried to introduce myself. The old man shook his head, so I stopped.
"I'm well aware of your identity, Pilot Ikari." Kozo Fuyustuki said, a frown was forming on his face, as if he remembered something important. "You are?" He turned to Tadama-san.
"I'm one of Section 2's agents, sir. Tadama Izuku, at your service." Tadama nervously said.
"I see. You're dismissed. Thank you for your work." Tadama-san sighed in relief.
"Yes. I will take my leave now, Vice Commander." Tadama said before turning and running away.
"Goodbye Tadama-san!" I waved my hand at him, and turned back to the Vice Commander, who was giving me a curious look.
Here we go.
"...So, how did you escape the detention room, Third Child?" He grimaced, his serious attitude was overwhelming me. How did he change his tone so quick!?
I was hoping he wouldn't ask this question... But to be honest, I was expecting this before.
"Can we talk this out somewhere else?" I said, and the old man nodded.
"...So, that's how."
I shivered at his sharp words. Nonetheless, I tried to keep myself calm.
"Yes, it is?" I looked up to him. Vice Commander Fuyutsuki sighed.
"You do know we will punish you for escaping, right? Why did you do that?"
"I don't want to spend the rest of my life rotting there." I crossed my hands. "I got thrown in the dark room for nearly a day and no one brought food or drinks. I was starving there!"
Why am I acting like a child right now? Ah well, doesn't matter. I just hope that this old geezer will accept my obviously fake reasons and let me go.
"Still, that was irresponsible, Pilot Ikari."
...
Alright alright, it was a bit irresponsible, I know that. I could see the look of concern on his face.
Guess I should apologize to him.
"Alright, I'm sorry for escaping. It was an unwise thing to do." Kozo Fuyutsuki smiled at my apology.
"Good. You're really Yui's son after all."
Yui? You mean Yui Ikari? Shinji's mom?
...The one who Adam talked about?
"You know her?" I asked him, and was responded with a nod of confirmation.
"She was one of my most brillant student, if not the best." He said with a prideful look on his face. He kept praising her like a saint, but I stopped listening before his ramblings gave me a headache.
'Brillant my ass, she is just a coward.' I wanted to break his smug face so bad, but I remained silent. 'An idiot who can't even see what would happened to her world if she continued on the path she chose.'
From what he had said, this Yui Ikari was an scientist, a good one at that(Which doesn't change the fact she was a stupid person). She and Gendo married, and I appeared as a result of their love. Until they left me(the boy named Shinji Ikari).
It also occurred that Gendo left me at my uncle's place when I was four. Hmm...why was it the same time I reincarnated into his body? Did something happen to the kid?
I shook my head mentally. Whatever happened, it must have destroyed the kid's Soul and replace his Soul with mine.
...Or it is also possible that our Souls were so in sync that they fused into one. Or ours were too similar, so it fused into one new Soul. Gah, you know what? I don't care. I'm still here and kicking. That is the only thing that mattered.
"Shinji Ikari?"
I snapped out of my trance, looking at the old geezer. He was looking at me, confused. "What were you thinking about, Shinji?"
"M-me? I, uh..." I hastily added. "N-nothing! I'm just a little tired, that's all."
What time is it? I looked at the window before widening my eyes in shock.
"It's noon already!?" I got here at 8 AM, and now it's 1 PM? This geezer managed to talk without the needs to drink water for 3 hours straight!?
"Oh, apologies, Pilot Ikari. I got a little carried away." Kozo looked down at his shoes apologetically.
No, I'm just incredibly surprised. This old geezer must have been a university professor in the past.
"Now, where were we? Ah yes, about your accommodation. You can choose to stay here." He pointed a finger at a small apartment near the Geofront. It looked quite decent, I'd say.
"Am I going to stay there alone?" I asked, and he nodded.
"Here is your ID card and keys to access your house." I picked up both of them and put in in my bag.
That's good. I got my first private house, which is very much welcomed for a 14 years old kid. Oh man, wait until I got my salary for defeating Angels(in other words, forcefully pulling their consciousness out of their physical body and destroy the remainings). I would be a millionaire!
"So that's settled. It's my pleasure to meet you today, Pilot Ikari. You was a good listener." We both stood up and shook hands. "It had been a long time since I was feeling this fun. Can we talk like this again sometime?"
I wish your obsession with Yui Ikari could go to hell. I don't even want to get near you anymore, you perverted old man.
But I have to be polite. "Of course, I would like to hear more about my mother. But it appeared I had wasted too much of your time. I will take my leave now."
"Oh, one more thing Shinji." I turned around and looked at him again.
"What is it, Vice Commander?"
"What would you do if you found out your mother was still alive?"
I broke the eye contact almost instantly, causing Kozo to be a bit surprised.
"...I have to go now. Goodbye, Vice Commander."
With that said, I rushed out of his office. The last thing I saw was Kozo widening his eyes in surprise, as if he didn't expect this to happen.
I hate it when I'm pathetic like this.
yay, i made it in time!
Well, time to the proper reintroductions I promised before.
1, Shinji: A cosmic being who lost his identity and drifting alone in space for millions of years, accidentally met Adam, the First Angel. They quickly became friends before an explosion wiped out everything in existence. He got reincarnated as Shinji Ikari, or rather, took control of Shinji's body when he was four. Currently on a quest to retrieve all the Angel's Souls and protect them until Adam returns. His goal is to wait until Adam returns and have a good life with his best friend as humans.
2, Yui Ikari: Shinji Ikari's mom in the last timeline. She made a contract with the Spear Of Longinus(which surprisingly had a will of its own) to return to the past and stop the initiation of Third Impact and SEELE, as well as undoing a lot of accidents and reviving her allies. Her goal is to have a good life with her family and friends after stopping Third Impact.
