It was late at night, Optimus was laying beside Saphira in the bed as she slept peacefully. She had her arms wrapped around him, wearing a lovely pink, nightie with black ruffles along the sleepwear. Optimus ran his hand along her arm gently as she slept, he considered trying to recharge in his holoform, though he knew it wasn't exactly the best option. That was mostly because he was still using energy to keep his holoform formed. He kissed her cheek gently, he wanted to remain here all night with her, though he had to return to his alt form to recharge. He carefully lifts her body and moved her to rest her head on the pillow. Saphira shifts a little from the movement, though her arms around his loosened and he gently moved them from around his body. Optimus carefully slid from the bed and pulled the covers up, tucking them in and kissed her cheek gently.
"Tomorrow is another special day," Optimus whispered to her. "Nothing but just us, the sky and trees." He smiled and walked away from the bed. "I love you, and I'll be back by your side before the sun rises."
Saphira did not hear him of course, but Optimus wanted to say these things to her regardless. It brought him happiness, and he knew that Saphira may still feel the love he has for her despite the absence of hearing his voice. He watched her sleep for a bit longer before he left to return to his alt form. Though as he left, he was no aware of the dream Saphira was currently having.
In Saphira's Dream…
Saphira was running through a city, it was burning and there were people fleeing all around her. She could taste the metal fumes on her tongue as she breathed heavily and yelped as an already destroyed car is flung into a building. She glanced around in a panic, looking for any signs of the autobots and Lennox to try get to safety.
She grabbed out a radio and yelled into it. "Optimus!" She coughs and took a deep breath. "Optimus, where are you? They have cut off the exits around the city, I am going to try something else to get out of here." There was no response aside from static. "Optimus! Bee! Barricade! Does anyone read me?"
Nothing again and Saphira just shuddered fearfully. She had to keep running, she yelped as a missile explodes upon impacting a tall building and watched as it began to topple. She turned and ran as fast as she could. Bursts of purple smoke and shards explode from cracks in the road and footpaths, she jumped around them. Saphira glanced at the cracks, looking at the smoke and shards curiously before glancing up as several transformers walk towards her. She widened her eyes, their bodies were ruined to the point they should be dead, she could see their protoforms that had been torn and it was almost like staring at a corpse. Maybe she was. Their chests did not have their original sparks in them, but it seemed it had been replaced with something else with a deep, dark purple that was coursing through their bodies. Their optics were glowing of the same colour.
She turned away when she saw them arming themselves, aiming towards her to fire at her. She heard their blasts and she ducked into an alleyway to avoid being fired at. Their footsteps were loud and clear as they run after her. She looked to her wrist, she saw she did not have her bracelet with her. She could not defend herself. Plus, her wrist was covered in burns and blisters, she did not feel the pain of them at all as she ran.
She covered her head as blasts were fire at her again, she darts to the left to try and get away them and yelped when she heard a familiar cannon charge. She looked up and saw Megatron shooting at the transformers. He was heaving heavily, his shoulders had been damaged and his chassis had a huge hole in the right side, fire was burning lightly on his chassis. Energon was leaking from his side and he ran at the transformers, arming his energon sword and slicing the three bots in half. Saphira was confused, he protected her, and she kept running.
Saphira's throat was burning as she kept running, she needed to stop for a breather. But with strange undead transformers and Megatron near, she did not know if she could. She ran into a building, finding it was a small library and she took the moment to take a breath. She breathed heavily and coughed loudly, covering her mouth as she did so. She took deep breaths and gasped when she saw blood on her hand.
"Oh no…the fumes are finally burning my throat…" Saphira rubbed her throat and glanced around. "There must still be running water somewhere. It might help."
She rushed around the library and found a kitchen. She was relieved and ran to the sink to fill a cup with water. When she drank, her throat burned as she gulped the water down. But as she drank more, it would soothe the feeling and she felt much better. However, she wasn't able to stay long. A long, slender hand punched through the wall. Saphira screamed, seeing the bare, sharp fingertips of another undead transformer and ran out of the library. She yelped when she almost ran into Megatron and turned to run from him.
"Keep running, Saphira!" He yelled after her. Saphira stopped and turned to look at him in surprise, his tone was not of aggression or mockery, but of concern. "Don't stop, you fool! Get out of here! Get to northeast side of the city, Optimus will meet you there. I will take care of the infected bots."
Saphira wanted to ask why, but the same slender claw punched through the library and Megatron sliced through the arm immediately. She shakes her head and turned to run. She knew this was a dream because Megatron would never tell her to go to Optimus. That would be very much unlike him.
Though as she ran, she is nearly blasted by something very big. She screamed and ducked away, hiding by a large dumpster and peering out. She widened her eyes in fear when she saw a massive transformer, she could not quite see the shape or design, aside from the long, slender crowns on his head and the bright, purple optics on his face. He let out a laugh, it was deep and cold, sending shivers through Saphira's body.
"It is over, little human," The bot speaks in a cold, mocking tone. "You and your Prime will never defeat me now. Not while I have an army bigger and stronger than any human army." His arm transforms into a canon and aims towards her. "Say hello to my brother, Primus, for me."
"NOOOO!" Saphira covered her face and yelped as something jumped in front of her. She opened her eyes, hearing the heavy sound of something dragging in the road and hitting several cars. She gasped when she saw Megatron, he had yelled out and jumped in front of the blast.
He was barely awake, his optics flicker and he groaned, trying to get up, but his stomach was completely destroyed and energon was leaking like crazy. "Megatron!" She ran over to him with wide eyes. "Why would you do that?"
Megatron blinked weakly, looking at her in surprise. "W-Why d-d-do y-y-you ask a silly q-q-question? Y-Y-You s-s-s-saved my life, I a-a-am merely r-r-returning the favour."
She was surprised, she never saved his life. She turned her head when she heard the giant bot laughing at them. "Aw, how sweet. She once totally feared you Megatron, and you damaged her flesh so deep that she hated you for a long time. Now here she is by your side instead of Optimus."
Saphira widened her eyes, her heart nearly skipping a beat. She did not know what was happening. "Saphira…g-g-get out of here," Megatron managed to say in a glitchy voice, she looked at him as he pushed himself up off the ground. "T-T-Take t-t-the s-s-sewers t-t-t-two blocks from me…" He gestured slightly while clutching his stomach and glaring at the giant bot. "I w-w-will g-g-give y-y-y-you time t-t-t-to r-r-r-return to Optimus a-a-and y-y-your sparklings." Sparklings?! Megatron limped towards the giant bot, arming himself with his sword. "Y-You w-w-w-will f-f-fall today!"
"Ha! You will before me! Say goodnight, Megatron!"
Saphira yelped loudly, her eyes snap open and dart around the bedroom of the suite. She took deep breaths as she tried to calm herself down. She had no idea why she even dreamed about Megatron, or some kind of giant transformer. She looked around and realized Optimus was not present. She checked the time, it was past two in the morning. She didn't know when he returned to his alt form to recharge. Saphira pushed the covers off and ran onto the balcony, running to the right side where she could see the parking lot and the Peterbilt.
"Optimus," She called out to him. She felt tears falling from her eyes. "Are you still in recharge?" There was no response from him. "Optimus…I need you…" She thought about walking out of the lodge of the truck, though she didn't know if that was wise.
"Saphira." She yelped in surprise and turned, her eyes widen when she saw Optimus's holoform behind her. "Are you okay? Why are you crying?"
Saphira ran up to him, throwing her arms around him and burying her face into his chest. "I…I had a nightmare…or…a vision…I think."
She sniffled as Optimus rubbed her back gently. "Come inside, it's a little cool tonight." He picks her up suddenly bridal style, making Saphira gasp and blush slightly at the action. He carried her to the bed and set her down on the mattress. "Do you…want to talk to me about it?"
Saphira hesitated, telling Optimus about it might not be ideal. Plus, she was still crying. "Give me…a few minutes…" She sniffled and placed a hand over her face.
Optimus hummed and sat on the bed, pulling her close to his side and hugged her, rubbing her side while allowing her to cry it out. He was familiar that humans do have nightmares, he knew they can be upsetting enough that a human would wake up and are terrified of what their brain had conjured in their sleep. Optimus was lucky that bots in recharge were not familiar with that sort of thing. Still, Saphira saying she might have had a vision was odd. He doubted that very much.
Saphira managed to calm down a little bit and she looked up at him. "How did you get your holoform up here so fast? I thought you could only form it directly from your body."
He smiled at her. "Not necessarily. It indeed takes less energy to form the holoform directly from my form, but I can project it when I need to. Technically, I can also control my full form and holoform at the same time. That might become handy, but I will have Ratchet improve the holoform system so it is safe to do that."
She smiled and he wipes a tear from her cheek. "I hope I did not cause you to use so much of your energy just to see me."
"I do not like seeing you in distress, Saphira. I was in a deep recharge when you called to me, but once I saw your tears I knew you needed me." He kissed her forehead gently. "Would you now like to tell me what happened in your nightmare? It would make it better for you if you told me."
Saphira hesitated for a moment, worried about how Optimus would react, but she began to tell him about her dream. Optimus's expression remained relaxed and calm as he listened to her. It didn't even flinch when she told about Megatron protecting her in the dream. She did tell him that it wasn't because of any feelings she had towards him, she was confused by the dream. But as the dream felt…real in a way, she wondered if it was a vision.
"So…yeah…" Saphira was nervous, after telling Optimus everything that happened in the dream made her worry about his reaction to it. "That is all I saw. That is why I feel scared…"
"Do not worry for something that has not happened and may never happen," Optimus said to her in a calm tone. "I am not mad Saphira, I can see you are nervous. Thank you for telling me. I can see how it would have frightened you."
She was relieved Optimus felt that way, but it still felt real to her. "I still think it is a vision. Sometimes, dreams tell us things and I just can't shake that feeling that it might happen. But…I don't know of any transformer bigger than you with horns crowning his head."
"I know of one. An enemy of Cybertron." Optimus knew Saphira did not know who Unicron was, though the fact she may have dreamed of him did somewhat concern him. "However, I do not believe what you saw in your nightmare has anything to do with him. It was just a nightmare."
"Maybe…" Saphira sighed, relaxing against Optimus and yawning slightly. "It just was…strange. Although…the one thing that still had me was…the sparkling part…"
"Sparklings are the offspring of transformers," Optimus explained, Saphira listened as she laid her head against his chest. "We have not had any sparklings for many millennia. Especially now there are not many of us left."
"Still…it is strange in my dream when Megatron said my sparklings…I highly doubt that is possible would it?" Saphira did not know of the biology of transformers and how they reproduce, so it was something that made her curious. "I mean, I am a human and you are an autobot…"
"I cannot answer that for certain. I fear it would not be safe. Sparklings are typically born at the size you are right now." She widened her eyes at that and looked at him, the realization dawned on her because that meant a child of there's could be very big. "A combination has never been heard of. However, that is a long way into the future, Saphira. A sparkling is the last thing we should think about."
Saphira guessed that Optimus was right, it was way too soon to be talking about sparklings. Still, the idea of being able to have one with Optimus…that sounded exciting to her. She kissed him and stretched a little in the bed. "Yeah…I have things to before even thinking of that. That makes me curious though, what were your parents like?"
Optimus looked away from her and was silent for a moment, Saphira widened her eyes in surprise at that. "I am afraid I do not know. There is a reason why I referred to Megatron as brother back in Mission City. He and I grew up together, raised by the same bot."
Saphira widened her eyes. "Really? You don't know about your parents?"
"I know my parents fell victim to a plague when I was just a month old, that is how I ended up without them." He turned his head to look at her, he could see she was surprised about the bots getting a plague. "Yes, we can get plagues. It is very rare for any of us to get it. However, they are often fatal. We even have pests that are extremely dangerous to bots, thankfully none of them are on this planet. Megatron's parents…I do not know the story behind that. I was never told. I suppose knowing how we both started still hurts when I think about all the things Megatron has done. I stopped seeing him as my brother when I saw him draining energon out of other bots to feed a new army."
"Hmm…well…I guess it never occurred to me that you were an orphan. I am very sorry. I hope that your parents loved you more than my own did me." Saphira ran her hand along his arm gently with a smile. "I apologize if I brought up some buried feelings."
"It is okay, Saphira. You did not know." He kissed her head and she yawned rather suddenly. He chuckled lightly, pulling the blankets up around her. "I think you should go back to sleep."
"Can't you take me to sleep in your cab?" Saphira asked with a pouty face. "I would rather wake up to you than to no one."
"I promise I will be here when you wake, Saphira. I want you well rested for the morning. I have more surprises for you." She grinned at him and sighed loudly, shifting slightly so her head was laying on the pillow instead of his chest. Optimus leaned down and kissed her cheek. "I knew you would not be able to resist. I will stay with you again until you fall asleep."
"Thank you Optimus…I am glad you were not mad about my dream." Saphira closed her eyes, shifting her body closer to Optimus for the warmth of his body. "I look forward to the sun rising."
He chuckled gently and rubbed her cheek gently with his fingers, sitting on the bed and relaxing against the bedrest behind him as he waited patiently for Saphira to fall asleep. He was glad she was not afraid to tell him what her nightmare was about. Optimus understood she hesitated based on the contents of the dream, though to him, it was just a dream. He did consider the possibility of it being a vision, though he was more inclined to believe otherwise. He just hoped Saphira would not worry about it in the coming days and months ahead of them, otherwise it would just distract her from her work.
