The sound of the keys jangling filled the void between them as he waited for the older man to open the front door. As he did so, he looked around the doorway curiously, tilting his head left and right at the potted plants that were growing to the sides of them.
It was dark, and he wasn't able to see much, but it looked like a nice house?
Yeah.
He had no idea if this was normal or not.
The front door had a little plaque with Major Kang's family name engraved above a little rectangular thing that had a button that glowed an amber color. But that was as far as his architectural knowledge went in that aspect.
Kang finally opened the door, a loud sigh escaping him as he did so," Finally," he groaned out, a tone of exhaustion in his voice," Home sweet home." The Major flicked on a light and let him walk in first before he closed and locked the door behind them. The entranceway was cream-colored, with a little dresser of sorts that had a decorative rock bowl on the top of it, with shoes in the cubby. The rest of the house was dark and he couldn't see beyond the light the bulb provided.
Kang threw his keys into the decorative bowl and dropping the bags, he started to take off his boots?
Was he supposed to take off his shoes?
He looked down at his feet, twisting his heel inwards he was able to see the dirt and mud caked onto the sides and in the grooves of his sole. Then he looked at Kang, who was now hopping around trying to take off his second boot without falling over.
Alright, he was probably supposed to take off his boots.
It was weird, he preferred to keep his shoes on while he was awake. If anything happened, he wouldn't have to rush to put on his shoes, he was just ready to go at all times, ready for anything that could happen.
But Kang was the one who knew what he was doing, and it was his family home, so he didn't have any right to try and argue. If Kang was taking off his boots, he was just going to do the same. He didn't like it, but if the Major believed it was safe enough for them to take off their shoes, then he was just going to trust the man and his judgment.
Like the Major did moments before, he started to undo his laces, quickly taking off his boots.
"Here," a pair of black…somethings, were placed in front of him. There were the weirdest sandals he had ever seen. The heel was exposed like the shower slippers they used back on base, but the toe portion was completely covered? Sandals were meant to expose the toes, but yet, these only exposed the heel? Kang continued, not noticing the way he was staring at the weird black sandals," wear these slippers around the house. Regular shoes can damage the floors." Oh. That's what they were called, slippers.
It was an odd name, but it did explain why they were taking off their boots. Though what was the point of having wooden floors if wearing shoes around the house could damage them?
Whatever, it's not his house anyway.
With an open mind, he slid his feet into the slippers (they were weird, but they weren't bad) and stored his boots right next to the Majors. Stepping out of the little depression they had been in, he dutifully followed the Major further into the dark house.
Kang didn't mention if there was a place for him to sleep, but if anything, he could just go to sleep on a chair for all he cared. After the day's events, all he wanted was to go to sleep.
He would have preferred that Kang had turned on the lights while they walked, it was obvious that the man knew where he was going. Kang led him to a room, and flicked on the lights, revealing a room that looked like it was big enough for four people, but there was only a large bed in the corner of the room and an expensive-looking wooden dresser right next to it, and a desk in another corner.
Was this Kang's room?
"Here you go Squirt." Kang ushered him into the room and set his bag on the bed. Alright, it looked like they were sharing a room, but it was nothing he wasn't used to.
Before he could ask if they were going to share the bed, the Major happily said, "This is your room. I'm going to be right next door but I'm going to stay up a little bit longer if you need anything. I'll be back." Kang walked out before he could ask anything, leaving him hanging as he stared at the room.
What?
This was his room?
Slowly, he looked around the room, taking in the large room that was apparently his. The bed was so much bigger than he had ever seen, it wasn't like the bunk bed that he used back on base, and it was much bigger than the cot he would use when he was with the camp.
It was just…so big .
Curious, he pressed down on the mattress, and it was so much softer than anything he had ever seen. It gave way to his pressure, and it was clear that it was far more expensive than anything he had ever slept on.
Guilt washed over him.
What did he do to deserve this?
He's never done anything to warrant such treatment from Kang, if anything, the Major had done so much more for him. Kang took him in, and despite his shitty attitude and their ups and downs, Kang continued to do so much for him. Even when he was being difficult, Kang never gave up on him, even though he had already done more than enough by giving him a place to sleep.
He kept on looking around the room, noticing everything that was a drastic difference from everything he had ever seen. Everything was of higher quality, a certain gloss to them that he had only seen when he was raiding a businessman's house.
Everything was just so… nice.
Why was Kang being so kind to him?
If it wasn't for the fact that he's known Kang for the past year and a half, he would have thought that the man wanted something from him, that he was trying to win his favor or forcefully indebt him to the soldier. But he wasn't, Kang was just doing this out of the kindness of his heart, which only confused him even more.
His chest tightened with anxiety.
What made him so deserving of this kindness?
Kang was a good person. He had good morals, he worked for a good thing. He's worked to help people; he's killed people with the intent to help other people. Kang was so much better than him.
All he's done was kill because he was ordered to.
All he did was what he was told and killed people who were innocent. People who had absolutely nothing to do with him or his mission. He's killed just because he was ordered to, he's wiped out entire villages, bloodlines, and microcultures simply because he was ordered to. Because he was too mindless to think for himself and to break away earlier.
So why did he deserve something like this?
Kang came back into the room, plush and soft-looking blankets piled high onto it, a tired, but happy look on his face as he set the blankets down, "Let me just make the bed so you can go to sleep. I'll be quick and-"his turmoil must have shown on his face because when Kang turned to face him, he stopped mid-sentence. The grin fell away as the man's face turned into one of worry," Hey, what's wrong?" Kang's voice was gentle and full of concern.
Why was Kang so nice?
He didn't deserve this.
Not after what he did. He didn't deserve this in the slightest. He didn't deserve to live like a normal human being like his hands weren't dripping with blood.
He…he just didn't.
He didn't have the right to live with such comfort after he killed so many people.
"Squirt?" The Major's words brought him out of his downward spiral, making him realize that his nails were digging into his palms, "Hey. Talk to me," Kang's voice was as gentle as ever, just as calm as it had been on the plane. When he had been clinging onto Kang and each and every word in an attempt to ground himself, "Is it the room? You can use mine if you don't-"
"It's not that." He weakly interrupted the Major and he couldn't tell if his eyes were burning from exhaustion, the shed tears or if it was because more tears were threatening to form, "I... why are you so nice to me?" It was a genuine question, one that he had been wondering for months now, but it wasn't until now that he felt the need to ask.
He didn't have any redeeming qualities beyond his loyalty and obedience, nor had he done something significant to warrant such treatment.
He just truly didn't understand. Why was Kang being so nice to a person like him?
"What?" Kang's voice sounded strained, but he didn't dare look up at the older man. He stared at the bed, something in his chest tightening at the sight of the oversized bed, a luxury that he certainly did not deserve.
"I... I've never done anything to help you like this." He said slowly, trying his best to keep his voice clear and confident, even though he felt nothing like that," You don't gain anything from this. Just...why?"
Why was he doing all of this for him? Why was this man, who had no relation to him beyond friendship, going so far for him?
The only thing he could hear from the older man was his breathing and the shuffling of his clothes. "Why do I care about you?" the Major asked, and he could hear the confusion in the soldier's voice.
Why didn't he get it? Why wasn't Kang grasping his question? Why did he have to clarify this? It was obvious, Kang had done far more for him and his well-being than he had done for Kang and his well-being.
"I haven't done anything to gain this type of treatment."
At that, Kang heaved out a giant sigh, and upon looking, he could see Kang running his hand through his hair, a sad look on his face, "Alright kid. That's enough with self-hating. It's late, you had a very long and hard day, and you're exhausted, which is probably why you're thinking like this. But," Kang paused as he took another breath, and the soldier set his hands on his shoulders and stared him dead in the eye as he firmly said, "You don't have to earn love. I love you because I care about you. I'm doing this because I want to. Okay? Now," Kang ruffled his hair, and doing that same weird thing he did on the plane to the top of his head, he continued, "if this is still bothering you in the morning, we'll talk. But for now, I want you to get some sleep okay?" his eyes were burning again, and all he could do was watch as Kang finished making the bed.
Okay…
Maybe Kang was right…
He was exhausted, and maybe it was affecting his mood but…he still didn't understand…
Why was Kang so loving to him?
Kang huffed when he saw the look on Squirt's face, the same look that he had learned to associate with the apparent self-loathing.
Where did this even come from anyway? The kid had never told him anything like that, and he wasn't sure if it was because of the emotional stress of the day, or it was something that had been brewing for a long time, and it was barely coming out now. There wasn't a lot of privacy back on base, and he could probably count the times when they were truly alone on one hand, so maybe it was the fact that it was just the two of them in the house? Where there was no chance of someone else potentially walking in and seeing him in a vulnerable state?
For now, Kang was just going to hope that it was because of the emotional stress of the day and that a few nights of solid sleep would help the young man. But, Kang decided, if it was something that persisted, he was definitely going to have to look into some help for the kid. There was a difference between questioning oneself and questioning whether one deserved kindness or not.
Wait.
He wasn't the kid's guardian, so could he even do that? Or would he have to do more paperwork to become the kid's guardian so he could get Squirt the help he needed?
Kang restrained another sigh at that thought, pulling on the pillowcases as he did so. It was almost two in the morning, it was way too late to be thinking of stuff like that, and if Kang felt tired, he was sure that the kid was exhausted. It didn't help that they were jet-lagged after an entire day of travel.
He finished making the bed and took a step back, content to see that the guest bed was now ready for Squirt to use. Although the kid was still giving him that odd look, as if he couldn't quite understand why this was happening, he moved past it, "Get some sleep. We don't have to wake up early and kid?" Squirt looked up at him, an anxious look on his face, "Don't you ever think you don't deserve love." There was a flicker of emotion across the kid's face and it looked like he was going to protest, but gave in at the last second, quietly nodding his head.
It was still weird that the kid was suddenly acting like this, but for now, he was going to chalk it up to the change in environment and the long day.
"I'm going to stay up for a little bit longer." It's been a while since anyone had been home, so he was probably going to have to go turn on the water heater and switch the unit over to cool the house, then make sure that everything was still locked up before he went to sleep. "Are you going to be alright?" Again, Squirt quietly nodded his head, still not that confident.
Although Kang wanted to let out a sigh, he held it in favor of giving Squirt a smile, "Okay. Goodnight, I'll be next door if you need anything." He didn't wait for a response, but just as he was about to walk out, he heard the quietest 'goodnight' from the kid.
He smiled.
Baby steps.
Slowly, he woke up, already cursing at the fact that he was awake when it felt like he could sleep for a few more hours. For a few minutes, he just lay there, questioning why he was awake when the sun was barely coming up. Letting out a loud exhale, Kang turned onto his side, ready to fall back asleep.
The sound of another exhale made him open his eyes because that did not come from him.
He lifted his head, and upon confirming that he was alone in his bed, along with hearing another exhale, it did nothing to clear up the confusion. Furrowing his brows, he listened to the breathing and realized that it sounded like someone was asleep?
But he should have been the only one in there…
Slowly, he sat up in bed and looked around, and upon seeing no one, he looked over the edge of his bed and-
Squirt was there?
The kid was curled up on his side, his back to him, and his arm was cushioning his head as he slept. He was still in his clothes too, he had never changed into his pajamas that Kang knew for a fact that the kid had.
Why was he there? And when did he even slip in?
It's been over a year and a half since he and the kid started living in the barracks together, and this was the first time he was doing something like this.
"Squirt?" Kang whispered at first, trying to wake the young man up as gently as possible lest he startled him awake. When there wasn't a reaction, Kang reached down and gently prodded the kids' shoulder," Squirt? Wake up."
At last, he jerked awake, sitting up faster than Kang could blink, a panicked look on his face. Recognizing the behavior, Kang waited for the kid to find him, and when he did, he could see some of the tension leaving the teen's shoulders, "Major?" Kang heard the kid swallow, which only emphasized the fact that his kid was not in a good emotional state. It was clear that the kid was still tired, and it was probably because he was sleeping on the floor instead of in a bed like a normal human being.
Although he wanted to ask what exactly was troubling him, he had long learned that the kid would not tell him.
Instead, he asked, "Why aren't you in your bed?" because he didn't give the kid that bedroom just for him to slip into his and sleep on the floor.
What was he doing on the floor anyway? Kang wouldn't have minded sharing the bed, it was big enough, but why would the kid just sleep on the floor with no pillow or blanket?
Squirt ran his hand through his hair, showing that he was stressed as he quietly muttered, "Nightmares." His eyes stubbornly looked anywhere but at the Major.
Ah.
Kang looked closer, his stomach sinking when he saw the puffy and red eyes of the young man.
As sad as it was, that did make sense, Sunny wasn't here anymore to help him with his nightmares.
God, he needed to get that dog over here. Sergeant Kim should have sent her to quarantine already, but it was still going to be a long while until he could pick her up.
He huffed," Alright." The kid looked up at him, exhaustion practically radiating from him, he motioned him up, "Get in." He got a startled look in return, and before the kid could question it, he gave the teenager a stern look to let him know that it was non-negotiable, "I'm not letting you sleep on the floor. And next time," bashfully, the kid climbed into the bed, muttering a quiet thanks as he tried to take up as little space as possible, "Wake me up if you have a nightmare. I don't mind." He should have checked on the kid before he went to sleep, but like an idiot, Kang thought that the kid was fine.
"Yes sir." He muttered, and already, the kid was starting to fade as he got comfortable on top of the blankets. It warmed his heart to know that Squirt trusted him so much, but it also made him worried to see how fast the exhausted teenager was falling asleep on top of the blankets.
On top.
Kang huffed.
"Squirt."
"Yes?"
"Get in the blankets."
God, why was this kid so weird sometimes?
The kid climbed into the blankets, and although it looked like he was going to fall off the bed with his endeavor to take up as little space as possible, Kang bit back his complaints. Squirt would probably spread out in his sleep anyway and it was gonna be fine.
Kang wasn't sure when he fell asleep, but when he did wake up again it was to the sound of the front door opening and closing. The sound was accompanied by someone throwing their keys into the bowl.
Kang shot up, instantly awake. He instantly recognized that sound and knew for a fact that it was one of his family members who entered the house.
Who the fuck just came home?
He looked over at the kid, who was still asleep next to him, his face buried into a pillow as he clutched it to his chest. Much like he would do when they were back on base with Sunny.
It was just supposed to be the two of them for two weeks! The way Squirt was behaving when they got home only proved that the kid was going to need that time to adjust to everything. So why were they home!?
Carefully, he climbed out of the bed, and after throwing the blankets back over Squirt, he carefully crept out of his bedroom. Beam-lining to the front door to see who was the fucking idiot that didn't listen to him.
He didn't even have to see their face to recognize them.
Han-jae was right there, his back to him as he put on the slippers." Han-jae? What are you doing here, you're not supposed to be here for another two weeks!" Kang whispered furiously, truly annoyed that Han-jae hadn't listened.
He had been very clear about the kid needing time to adjust!
His brother turned around, a giddy grin on his stupid face, "I wanted to meet my nephew!" Kang sputtered, but Han-jae continued as if he said nothing wrong, "You can't make us wait two whole weeks to meet him!" The worst part was that he didn't even look a single bit sorry about arriving early, which annoyed Kang more than it had a right to.
Fucking idiot.
Completely ignoring the comment about Squirt being his nephew, Kang nearly hissed out his words, "Keep it down!" Han-jae, in his typical idiotic fashion, didn't give a single shit as he threw down his travel bag onto the floor, a loud thud being produced as a result, "The kid is still asleep! And I don't care what time it is," Kang quickly cut off Han-jae, who was going to try and point out the time as a justification to wake Squirt, "we got home late, and he had a hard time sleeping. Let him sleep." Han-jae was the type that thought it was lazy to wake up after 10 AM and granted, Kang somewhat agreed (partly because of his military career and waking up at five am every day), but he wasn't going to let his brother wake the kid up.
Han-jae huffed, but thankfully, he agreed, "Fine. But I'm making him breakfast. How much does he eat? Like we did when we were his age? Do I need to wash off his kimchi too?" God that was way too many questions when he woke up mere minutes ago.
And how old did he think the kid was? He's not a little kid that needed the paste rinsed off the kimchi so he could eat it. He didn't even like it in the first place.
Kang followed his brother to the kitchen, where he started to look in the fridge, "He's 16 Han, and he doesn't like kimchi. Look c-"
Han-jae closed the fridge door and gave him an incredulous look," Wait. He's 16?" The tone in his voice let Kang know that his brother was genuinely confused, which only brought up another point.
How did this idiot not know? He was so excited to meet the kid but he didn't know the kid's age?
Trying and failing to keep the confusion off his face, Kang answered, "Yes he's 16. How old did you think he was?"
Han-jae shrugged his shoulders, "I don't know! You never told us and you said that he was upset about leaving his dog behind so I thought he was really young."
"Mom was mailing my old clothes for him."
"How was I supposed to know that? You haven't even told us his name!"
Ok, that was fair.
Now that he thought about it, he realized that with the exception of his mother, he hadn't told any of his family members that the kid was 16 years old, so that was definitely his fault.
Though the kid's name was a problem for later. Among others.
Kang pinched the bridge of his nose as he let out a sigh, "Okay, that's my fault. Look Han-jae, I really need you to go." Han-jae looked almost offended at the request, so he quickly added, "The kid… he's not a normal teenager. He was a soldier, and he's been off since I told him that we had to leave Sunny on the base. He was acting weird last night too, he's not up to meeting anyone right now." Kang didn't forget about the kid's sudden bout of self-loathing, and that was something that he needed to address when it was just the two of them. The last thing he needed was an unforeseen addition that would stress out his kid even more.
Han-jae looked curious, slight worry marring his face as he asked, "Weird how?"
He shrugged his shoulders in response, feeling truly puzzled about Squirt's recent behavior, "I don't know." Kang felt somewhat bad about talking about the kid to Han-jae, but he needed someone to help figure this out because he honestly had no idea, "I showed him the guest room and he started asking me why I was helping him, that he didn't deserve what I was doing for him." Which was honestly the most bullshit thing that he had ever heard. It had to do something with the way that he was an operative for Iron, but that was an entirely different issue that was also for later.
His brothers raised eyebrows in surprise, a feeling that Kang related to, "And he's never told you anything like that?"
Kang shook his head, "Never. This is the first time he's said anything like that." The kid was the type to almost never say his emotions outright. It was actually easier to determine the kid's emotional state from his behavior rather than asking him. Talking about his feelings was just something that Squirt never learned how to do (Understandably) and though it was something they had been working on, there hadn't been much progress. "Sunny would help him with his nightmares and now that she's not here, I woke up and he was sleeping on the floor next to my bed. But he's never done anything like that either. He's just…stressed."
That felt like an understatement.
Han-jae nodded his head slowly, processing the information that Kang just told him before asking, "You mentioned that he was a soldier, so that means that he slept with people in a barrack, right?" Odd question but okay…
He had to think about it for a few seconds, trying to remember what the kid had told him about his time with Iron. "Yeah? He said that they slept in a tent together but yeah?"
Now his brother was giving him an odd look that he was too tired to try and figure out, "And he's only stayed with you in the barracks for the past 18 months?"
Kang huffed, almost getting annoyed by the non-stop questioning instead of Han-jae actually leaving, "What's your point Han?" He needed to hurry up and get to the point.
Han-jae was now staring at him without his mouth hanging slightly open, reminding Kang of the way Dae-hyun had been staring at him in the bathroom airport less than 24 hours ago. "You gave a kid a room, who has never had a room before," his brother said slowly, nodding his head as he did so, "and you left him alone in there after he's been sleeping in barracks for most of his life. After you left his dog behind and took him on an airplane where he almost had a panic attack. Hamchan, he's overwhelmed. The kids probably never had a bed bigger than a twin, forget an entire room, and you left him alone in there." His brother was staring at him, a look that practically said 'this is really obvious. I don't know why you're confused' on his face.
And the worst part was that it was obvious. It was so obvious that it was embarrassing. He didn't even think twice about giving the kid his own room and queen-sized bed, it wasn't even him trying to be nice, it was something he did without thinking. He and his brother had grown up in rooms like that, so it was just natural for him to do that for the kid.
That was just talking about the room, of course, the kid felt overwhelmed. Not only was he in a new house, in a new country, but Kang had been stupid enough to assume that the kid would be fine by himself, even though he's always had people around him at almost all times of the day for almost all his life.
Whiplash wouldn't be enough to describe what he did to the kid.
"Fuck..." Kang breathed out, dragging his hands down his face as his brother gave him a knowing look.
"Yeah. Just give him some time, it's barely his second day here." Han-jae was right. It was barely the beginning of the second day. Squirt just needed time to adjust to everything.
Han-jae could be a total idiot sometimes, but it was times like this when Kang was grateful for his brother.
Kang sighed, the tension leaving his body since he's got a solid idea of the factors that were causing his kid's sudden change in behavior. "Ok. I'm just worried." Though that was an understatement, it only emphasized the fact that he couldn't spring his brother onto the kid, "Yeah, you need to go." Even though Han-jae helped him figure out the kid a little bit more, that didn't change the fact that it was still shit timing.
He got a bad feeling when his brother averted his eyes, suddenly looking nervous, "Yeah…" he trailed off, and Kang immediately recognized that tone. That same exact tone he would use whenever he did something that he wasn't supposed to do.
"Oh god what is it?" It was better to just get it over with and to stop beating around the bush.
He started to get an even worse feeling when his six-foot brother ducked his head like he was a child as he admitted, "Ok so I can't. The institute is making me take a vacation to use my days before they get in legal trouble." Kang sighed.
Of course, this dumbass was such a chronic worker, of course, the institute would force him to take a vacation. "God damn it, Han." All of this meant that Han-jae couldn't go back, since he lived on-site when he was working, "How long until you have to go back?"
It shouldn't be too long, so one or two days? A week max? Surely his brother couldn't have saved up more vacation days.
Somehow, that only made his brother even more bashful, "Three months…?" His eyes damn near bulged out of his head.
Three MONTHS?
How did this idiot save up enough vacation days for three months?!
"How did-Han!" He was genuinely flabbergasted because how?
"I almost never use them!" Han-jae said that as if it explained everything, "Whatever days I don't use carry onto the next year, and yeah...I have three months until I can start working again." He ended weakly, thoroughly cowed by his older brother's reaction.
Kang didn't know if he have been surprised, or if he should have expected this Han-jae.
"Jesus-just. God, you're really messing this up. Go to the movies or something, I need to talk to him about it beforehand." Great, now he had to tell the kid that he was only getting a night's sleep instead of a fortnight before he had to meet his family.
God he just needed something to go right for him. just something that he can expect and handle accordingly.
But apparently, Han-jae was not done.
"Also…" he added quietly, looking like he wanted nothing more than to be swallowed up by the earth.
Kang almost wanted to sob. "Just tell me." Because unless someone died, or another person was going to come home too, Han-jae couldn't make this any worse.
"Well," Han-jae started slowly, a faint blush appearing on his face, "I seriously thought he was like eight, I brought a ton of stuffed animals and snacks for him."
Oh.
Oh, that was so much better than he thought, he couldn't help but let out a sigh of relief at that. He thought it was going to be some more bad news, not Han-jae having a problem because he brought gifts for a child.
Then he processed it.
Han-jae had brought home snacks and stuffed animals for what he thought was a young child.
That was funnier than it should have been.
Kang almost snorted, "Did you really?"
"Yeah." Okay that was when Kang started laughing because the thought of the kid having a stuffed animal was something that he could not see happening. The more he thought about it, the more Kang laughed, much to his brother's annoyance. Han-jae was almost pouting as he said, "Okay it's not that funny." That made it funnier." I'm serious! What am I supposed to do with them!? I thought you adopted an eight-year-old, not a 16-year-old!"
Again with the nephew thing?!
That made him stop laughing, and now it was his turn to flush as he almost indignantly responded, "I didn't adopt him!" Where did he even get that idea from?! He had never mentioned anything about adopting Squirt!
Han-jae squinted at him, "Mom said that you became his guardian to bring him into the country."
Ok, that was a good point, but Kang did not adopt the kid.
"I-well-I'm not his guardian per se. I'm like his spokesperson?" It was a weird title he had gained for the kid, he was responsible if the kid broke any laws, but he wasn't responsible for him like a parent or guardian was, but that wasn't the point, "And why would I adopt him when I brought him here to help him find his family. I'll have to wait a few months at least if I-nevermind." Kang quickly cut himself off, but he already knew that he had said too much.
Honestly, he's been trying to find the kid's family for a year and a half already. A year and a half of no results, and at this rate, it was going to be a damn miracle if they were able to find them. They already exhausted their resources and it was up to chance at this point.
So, if another six months passed, and the kid still hadn't been able to find his family.
Kang was planning to adopt him.
In his defense, not only was the kid already like a little brother to him, but he deserved to have a family, even if it wasn't his genetic family. It was a great idea. The kid would have a home and family to go home to, and Kang would be able to help him continue adjusting to civilian life without the worry of his relatives suddenly taking away his guardianship. It also gave Kang the ability to get the kid enrolled in school, programs, and other things that could come up, so it was a great idea.
A great idea that embarrassed him to hell and back because everyone kept on insisting that Kang was more of a father figure than a brother. He was only 29 dammit! He was way too young to have a 16-year-old kid!
Han-jae's confused look slowly turned into a shit-eating grin," Have to wait a few months for what exactly?"
Yep.
It was time for his brother to go.
Kang physically turned Han-jae around and started to push him towards the door, "Hurry up and go somewhere else."
Han-jae leaned back against his hands, but he didn't put any real effort into resisting as he was pushed to the front door, "So he is going to be my nephew one day!"
Kang felt like a furnace as his brother almost cackled loudly, "Out!"
God Han-jae was never going to let him live this down.
