Author's Note: *Posting early because I missed an update on Wednesday!*

Hello everyone and welcome back to "The Winter Child!" =D Today's chapter marks the very first drabble in this collection. ^u^ There won't be many...they're formatted more like transition chapters, and are there just to give a deeper perspective on how certain characters feel or what's going on. =) I'm hustling to get ahead in my writing (a chapter coming soon took me four days to write OuO), so I won't be posting another chapter to go along with this one...Despite that, I hope you guys enjoy this little drabble. =)

The Color of Blue

It was a fascinating color

Seen in many different ways

It could be sad

Weary

Or hold no meaning to man

Though most associated with sadness

If one looked hard enough

Blue could be more than just a color of angst

And perhaps reflect

The happiness

That those forget

...

Blue.

It was fascinating if not a beautiful color. So many ideas and thoughts came to mind at the first hearing of the word. A beautiful summer's day. Icicles swinging like wind chimes. The ocean, rolling in and out in elegant waves. A snack of some kind—perhaps a bowl of blueberries or grapes. Or maybe one felt a certain emotion. Sadness being the feeling most linked to said color.

Jack always loved the color blue. Even from when he was a baby, he showed and proclaimed that it would forever be his favorite. This wasn't much of a surprise to North—the boy was a snow sprite, and blue practically described his season. But it wasn't just winter that connected Jack to this color, North realized. The two had traits in common. Jack was blue, blue was Jack. It described him better than any other color.

Often viewed as a sad color, blue was seen as a shade that made people dreary or sad at the sight of it. Sometimes, it was misunderstood. Used to symbolize something or dejecting or saddening. Ask one to link emotions to color, blue was frequently linked to emotions of angst. Regret. Forlorn. Depression.

Like the color blue, snow sprites had been misconceived. Jack was one of them, and he was believed to be a race that was said to be cruel, malevolent, and had no regard for human life. Snow sprites were said to be heartless. Beings with hearts as cold as the ice they summoned. The rumors and whispers flitted and buzzed like bees, growing louder and louder until almost everyone was convinced that they were true. And the icy blizzard that had swept through the Tsardom, which caused only more resentment toward snow sprites, only led the stereotypes to grow worse.

But there were few—a precious few—who took the time to look. Listen. To find the truth and find the good and beauty that lay between the two. Blue was the color of the sky. Snow sprites brought wondrous snowshowers with their gales. Blue was the color of the ocean. Snow sprites could create shimmering ice crystals that sparkled like glass. Blue was a misunderstood color. And snow sprites were misunderstood people. One had to learn about both before settling on any permanent beliefs.

And as North watched Jack play with the other village children, laughing and smiling, he hoped that Lunslruna would soon come to learn the truth.

Author's Note: So I'm not always 100% confident in what I write...so I hope this drabble makes sense to you guys? XD I don't know, I just came up with this idea and saved it in the outline, and I think it's nice. I just hoped that I approached it in my writing properly. X)

Anyway, thank you guys so much for reading, and I hope to see ya in the next chapter! =D
