I do not own Hetalia okay? I honestly don't have much to say at these opening chapters so enough of this A/N, on with the fic!
January 5th 1919
(from the diary of Natalya Jones nee Arlovskaya)
Today Fredka had gone back to work for Mr. Seward again today, with the new year and the new start, so I took the children and Matthew to see Vanya and Katyusha. We made like we are going to talk to Katyusha but tried to include big brother in everything we did. I feel like he keeps isolating himself and it is really hurting Nikolai's feelings. Little Ivan and Anya don't know what to make of how he is. They had never known him before the war and how he was then. Nikolai may have only been two when he was shipped off but he loved his Dyadya Vanya as he'd say so much. I mean it is because of him he knows at least two Russian words. The words for Uncle and Koshka for cat. Why cat stuck I don't know, but it did and it's a sign I am very proud of. Fredka may be a 'son of the Mayflower' as he taunted when we first came here but he is not like many others who would want us to forget who we are and where we come from. However, I worry that Vanya has forgotten who he is.
From what Katyusha told me, he had bonded well with a Lucille Bonnefoy who is a French socialite who took care of him in Paris before he was sent back and I wonder if she talked to him about what all we are trying to do, trying to help him. To let him know that he is not the burden he may erroneously think he is to us. I will visit or write to her to make sure. Maybe he will listen to her. We are his family. This is what family does. I would not think him any less and I have told him so. I was also told of the medals he is to receive for his actions and I was proud of him and how he helped save so many who could have died. How he fought something that many died from. How he is stronger than he thinks and the fact his legs do not work like they did anymore means nothing. How Nikolai still saw him as the world's best uncle and his favorite, even more than Matvey. I frankly did not care that Matvey was there, but he was too busy with Katyusha. I wish him the best of luck in courting her. I mean I know they are in love but she is also dedicated to being a caretaker and I know big brother needs a lot. He's not totally invalid but it makes much in every day life harder. I remember how much harder it was to do many tasks pregnant with twins, so I cannot image how he feels. Fredka went crazy when he was kept in the bedroom to himself when he was recovering from the Spanish Flu but this is still nothing like Vanya is feeling. I pray like Katyusha said is correct and it is bruised. It will heal and he will be able to walk again somewhat like he did before. I understand he wouldn't be able to keep up with Nikolai and Fredka like he used to, but it would mean so much to him to do the same.
So how was that? Good? Bad? Short? Long? Let me know in a review. I don't have much to say all in all on this chapter so remember to read (well you just did) and to review. Ciao for now,
