The sun dipped low in the sky, casting an orange glow over the undulating dunes of Alabasta. The sea glittered blood-red beneath the dying light as the Going Merry dropped anchor, her motley crew disembarking onto the sandy shore.
Luffy stretched his rubber limbs with a satisfying snap, the brim of his treasured straw hat shading his eyes as he gazed at the foreign landscape. The desert called to his wandering spirit, promising adventure and mysteries yet unknown.
Zoro adjusted the three swords at his hip, eyeing the dunes warily. His senses were engulfed by the sea of sand, lapping at the edge of the world with a quiet that set him on edge. Somewhere beyond that horizon lay threats and trials to test the steel of his blades.
Nami unrolled her maps, tracing a path through the desert by the light of the setting sun. The log pose pointed steadily inward, unwavering in its guidance to their next destination. Her eyes gleamed at the thought of strange skies and stars awaiting her discovery.
Usopp loaded his slingshot and scanned the empty sands, more than half expecting some ferocious desert beast to come charging from the rippling expanse. His tales were yet lacking a suitable final foe to vanquish.
Sanji lit a cigarette and gazed at the alien landscape, smoke curling languidly about his head. Somewhere out there, he was certain, were ladies fair in need of rescuing by a knight of the sea. His visible eye glinted with anticipation.
Chopper shifted between four hooves, sniffing curiously at the air. A riot of unfamiliar scents assailed his nose, from the musky aroma of desert blooms to hints of creatures unseen. This new world held untold wonders for a doctor of the sea.
Robin rested her chin on interlaced fingers, eyes roaming the cacti and strange flora that populated this arid wonderland. Her quest for knowledge knew no bounds, and each new horizon promised ancient secrets waiting to be unearthed.
The Straw Hats gazed upon the alien world that awaited their exploration. Adventure called to them over the sand-swept sea, luring them ever onward to sun bleached shores and whatever may come. The sun dipped below the edge of all things, and plucky Jolly Roger was silhouetted bold against a sky of dying crimson fire.
"Alabasta… It's been a long journey," mused Luffy, his black hair ruffled by the desert wind. "Let's find this Crocodile guy and put an end to his plans."
"Agreed," said Zoro, his green hair glinting in the sunlight. "But let's stay alert. These deserts can be treacherous. Not that I'm the one here that would know."
The shifting sands of the desert sea receded endlessly under the blistering sun, dune after dune rolling out before the strange band of pirates and their royal charge as they trudged onward. Vivi's pale blue hair fluttered in the dry, scorching breeze as her eyes scanned the undulating ochre waves, each one threatening to be their last.
In the shimmering distance, two figures appeared where before there had only been rippling mirages. The first was a tall man, lean yet powerfully built, a fiery tattoo licking its way up his arm as his cloak billowed dramatically behind him. The second cut a menacing silhouette, smoke curling ominously from the two cigars clenched between his teeth.
A smile crept across Luffy's face as he spotted the familiar man with the shock of wavy black hair, his treasured straw hat shading his eyes. "Ace!" he cried, breaking into a rubbery sprint and flinging himself at his brother with open arms. They collided in a tempest of laughter, pounding each other heartily on the back.
The smoke-wreathed marine stalked towards the pair, the sand swirling around the feet of his spotless white uniform. "Straw Hat Luffy," Smoker growled around his cigars. "Our chase will never end, will it?"
"Shishishi!" Luffy chuckled, flashing a fearless grin. "Not unless you learn how to swim, Smokey!"
Ace's freckled face lit up with mirth at his little brother's cheekiness. The reunited brothers stood side by side, equally nonchalant in the face of the scowling marine as the rest of the crew caught up in a riotous swirl of greetings and exclamations, their shadows lengthening across the rippling desert sea. The adventures were never-ending.
"Hey, Ace!" Luffy shouted, waving excitedly at his sibling. Ace grinned in response, his freckled face lighting up.
"Good to see you, little brother," he called back. Smoker, however, scowled and puffed on his cigar, eyeing the pirates suspiciously.
"Straw Hat Luffy," Smoker growled. "I've been after you for far too long. Your luck just ran out."
"Perhaps you're mistaken, Marine," said Robin softly, stepping forward. "We have no quarrel with you. Our true enemy is the one who seeks to destroy Alabasta."
Luffy strode over to Smoker, his usual carefree grin replaced with a serious frown. "Smokey, you need to listen to me. Crocodile's scheming to take over Alabasta."
Smoker raised an incredulous eyebrow. "Crocodile? The Warlord? Don't be absurd, Straw Hat. He has no reason to overthrow Alabasta."
"That's just it - he wants everyone to think that," Luffy insisted. "But Vivi's been onto him this whole time. He's got some tricky devil fruit power to control sand. He's been using it to mess with the rain and cause droughts all over the kingdom. He's stirring up the rebels to cause trouble so he can step in and take over."
"And why exactly should I believe the far-fetched tales of a foolhardy pirate like yourself?" Smoker scoffed.
Luffy planted his hands on his hips, scowling up at the marine. "Come on, Smokey, you know I'm too thickheaded to make up something this clever! I'm telling you the truth. Crocodile's been plotting behind the scenes and playing this whole country for fools."
Smoker stared down at Luffy, searching the pirate's earnest face. As much as he hated to admit it, Straw Hat didn't seem cunning enough to fabricate an elaborate deception of this scale. And there had always been something about the Warlord Crocodile that didn't sit right with Smoker.
He clenched his cigars between his teeth, growling in frustration. "If I find out you're lying and making a fool of me, Straw Hat, you'll live to regret it."
Luffy's face broke into a grin once more. "Shishishi! Thanks, Smokey! Now come on, we've got a kingdom to save!"
"True enough," Ace agreed, nodding towards Smoker. "Why not join forces to take down a common foe?"
"Ha!" Smoker snorted, though he seemed to be considering the idea.
"Hey, Ace," Luffy interjected, his eyes shining with curiosity. "How come you're so strong? I mean, I know we're brothers and all, but still…"
"Brothers?" Usopp exclaimed, wide-eyed. "I didn't know that!"
This rabble continued for some time.
"Focus, guys," Sanji scolded, puffing out a cloud of smoke. "We've got bigger fish to fry."
Nami banged his head in her usual manner, the hypocrite that he was. "Sorry, Nami-swan…"
"Fine, fine," said Luffy, waving away the question. "Let's get moving."
As they trudged through the desert together, the Straw Hats and their new (temporary) allies exchanged stories and strategies, their voices rising and falling like the wind against the sand. The sun slipped further below the horizon, and the first stars began to twinkle in the sky above, a silent promise of the adventures yet to come.
"I assume you won't agree to join the Whitebeard Pirates, Luffy?" Ace asked halfheartedly.
"Nope. I'm going to be the king, after all. Shishishishishi…"
"It was worth a try…"
As the sun dipped toward the horizon, casting long shadows across the desert landscape, Luffy squinted through the dust and heat. The Straw Hats and their new allies had been traveling for some time, and the weary band of pirates trudged forward, a quiet determination settling over them. Ace walked alongside Luffy, his eyes scanning the horizon for any sign of Blackbeard.
"By the way, Luffy," Ace began, his voice somber and low, "I'm after someone myself: Blackbeard. He killed one of my crewmates, Thatch, just to steal a devil fruit." The fire in Ace's eyes burned brighter at the mention of his enemy, stoked by the desire for revenge.
"Really?" Luffy asked, concern flickering across his face. "That guy sounds pretty dangerous."
"Indeed he is," Ace replied, gritting his teeth. "That's why I have to find him and make him pay for what he did."
"Blackbeard…" Luffy murmured, his rubbery brow creasing in thought. His fingers traced the brim of his straw hat as if seeking comfort in its familiar touch. "Ace, promise me you won't go after him. Please."
"Wh-what?" Ace spluttered, staring incredulously at his younger brother. "Why would you ask me that? I can't let him get away with what he did!"
"Please, Ace," Luffy insisted, his eyes pleading. "I don't want anything bad to happen to you. At least let me go with you…"
"This isn't your fight, Luffy," said Ace.
"Oi, oi!" Usopp interjected, trying to lighten the mood. "Let's not forget we're on our own mission here! Let's focus on saving Alabasta first!"
"Usopp's right," Sanji agreed, blowing out a puff of smoke from his cigarette. "We'll deal with other threats when the time comes."
"Fine, Luffy," Ace relented after a moment, his voice softening. "We'll focus on Alabasta for now. But just know that I can't let Blackbeard's actions go unpunished."
"Thank you, Ace," Luffy whispered, relief washing over him. He knew there was much more to discuss, but for now, the matter was settled.
Together, the Straw Hats and their new allies continued onward, each carrying their own burdens and secrets. The sun sank lower in the sky, its rays stretching out like fingers across the sand, as if grasping at the fading day. As night began to fall, the desert offered no comfort or respite—only darkness, uncertainty, and the relentless march toward an unknown future
The sun dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows and bathing the world in a golden glow. Luffy stood with his fist clenched at his side, facing Smoker with a determined expression. The air between them was taut, charged with unspoken tension.
"Smoker," he began, his voice steady but quieter than usual. "I want to offer you a truce."
"Truce?" Smoker echoed, raising an eyebrow skeptically. "What do you mean?"
He then proceeded to explain everything. About Crocodile, About Baroque Works. About Pluton. Smoker was fazed, but showed no signs of surprise, echoing his general mistrust in pirates, government-backed or not.
"Listen," Luffy insisted, his gaze unwavering. "We now both know that Crocodile's plan is dangerous. He wants to take over Alabasta and use it for his own gain. I don't care about our past disagreements; right now, we need to work together to stop him."
The Marine officer stared at Luffy, gauging the sincerity in the young pirate's words. The Straw Hat captain met his gaze without flinching, waiting for a response. At length, Smoker exhaled slowly and nodded. "Alright, Luffy. You've got yourself a truce… for now."
"Thank you, Smoker," Luffy said, relief flickering across his face before determination took its place once more. "Now, let's go save Alabasta."
As they turned to rejoin the others, Robin approached the group with a somber expression. "There's something else you should be aware of," she said, her voice soft yet urgent. "The rebel army is on the move, and they're being led by someone who has taken on the appearance of the king. It's Mr. 2 Bon Clay; he has the power to mimic anyone he touches."
"Mr. 2?" Nami gasped, her eyes widening in alarm. "But that means…"
"Exactly," Robin nodded gravely. "He's impersonating the king and leading the rebel army into a battle against the royal guards—all to further Crocodile's plans."
"Those sneaky Baroque Works bastards!" Usopp muttered through gritted teeth. "We can't let them get away with this!"
"Indeed," Zoro agreed, his hand tightening around the hilt of one of his swords. "We need to expose Mr. 2 and put an end to this madness before it goes any further."
"Then let's hurry!" Sanji urged, lighting another cigarette as he glanced at the others. "The longer we wait, the more people will be hurt."
"Right," Luffy said, his eyes narrowing with resolve. "Let's go stop this war and take down Crocodile once and for all!"
"Yosh!" Chopper cheered, raising a hoof in support.
With renewed determination, the Straw Hat Pirates, accompanied by Ace and Smoker, raced toward Alubarna, each aware of the danger they faced and the sacrifices they might have to make. Yet, even in the face of adversity, their spirits remained unbroken, their bonds only growing stronger beneath the weight of shared purpose.
As they ventured forward, the night sky above them stretched out like an infinite tapestry, dotted with distant stars that bore witness to their journey. Unfazed by the darkness, the Straw Hats pressed on, guided by the light of their dreams and the unwavering belief in one another.

"Thank you, Smoker," Luffy said, relief flickering across his face before determination took its place once more. "Now, let's go save a kingdom."

"The rebel army is on the move, and they're being led by someone who has taken on the appearance of the king. It's Mr. 2 Bon Clay; he has the power to mimic anyone he touches."
"Mr. 2? He wasn't at Little Garden…" Nami gasped, her eyes widening in alarm.

The fading light of day cast long shadows across the once vibrant city of Alubarna, leaving its streets and alleys bathed in an eerie twilight. Amidst the rubble and chaos, the cries and clashes of battle echoed through the air, a grim symphony heralding the fall of a once proud kingdom. At the heart of it all, Crocodile's sinister laughter reverberated from within the palace, a chilling reminder of the power that now gripped this land.
"Oi, Luffy," Zoro grunted as they approached the battlefield, his swords clanking against each other with anticipation. "You ready for this?"
"Of course," Luffy replied, his fists clenched tightly, his expression resolute. "We're going to save Vivi's homeland and kick Crocodile's ass."
"Good," Zoro nodded, his lone eye gleaming with determination. "I don't plan on losing today."
Vivi started weeping tears of joy. "Everyone… thank you."
The ducks sliced through the air at impossible speeds, racing towards the heart of Alubarna with a determination that belied their cartoonish appearance. As the city swelled before them, a grim realization dawned on the Straw Hats - the conflict had already descended into madness.
The ducks alighted in the central plaza, now a sea of fallen bodies and scattered debris. The cobblestones were slick with blood, the stench of it mingling with acrid smoke in the air. Vivi gasped in horror, her hands flying to her mouth. Even Zoro's usual stoicism faltered at the sight, his one good eye widening.
Wounded civilians struggled to drag themselves out of the fray, their agonized cries a discordant symphony of suffering. Soldiers from both sides lay twisted amongst the rubble, limbs bent at impossible angles, weapons slipping from lifeless fingers.
A heavy despair hung over the city, seeping into the bones of all who beheld the tragic spectacle. This was no longer a battle but a senseless slaughter, fueled by the manipulations of Crocodile and his thirst for power.
In the distance, the sounds of combat echoed between the empty buildings as rebels and soldiers alike continued to rage against one another, blinded by rage and bereft of purpose. The very kingdom they had all sought to protect was crumbling around them, caught in a cycle of violence that knew no end.
Vivi's knees buckled beneath her as she knelt amidst the destruction, her slender shoulders shaking with sobs. The Straw Hats gathered around her, their faces grim. Alabasta was tearing itself apart from within, and they had arrived almost too late. But for Vivi, they would fight to their dying breath to save this kingdom from the brink of collapse. Their epic struggle for the desert kingdom was about to begin.
"Look at all these people," Nami whispered, her voice barely audible above the din of battle. "How did things get so bad?"
"Because of Crocodile," Robin said, her eyes narrowing as she surveyed the devastation. "He manipulated events from behind the scenes, using the rebels and the royal army as pawns in his twisted game."
"Enough talk!" Usopp shouted, loading a pellet into his slingshot. "We have to do something!"
"Yosh!" Chopper agreed, stomping a hoof and transforming into his larger form. "Let's stop this madness!"
"Wait," Luffy said suddenly, his gaze fixed on the chaos before them. A spark of inspiration flickered in his eyes as he drew a deep breath and braced himself. "There's something I can try…"
In that instant, an immense pressure surged outward from Luffy, rippling through the air like a shockwave. The force of his Conqueror's Haki was so powerful that it seemed to shake the very fabric of reality, its intensity stopping rebel and royal alike in their tracks. As the wave of energy washed over them, the combatants fell to their knees, their weapons clattering to the ground, their wills crushed beneath the might of the Straw Hat captain.
"Whoa," Sanji murmured, his cigarette dangling precariously from his lips as he watched the scene unfold. "That's our captain for you."
"Let's not waste any time," Zoro urged. "We've got a crocodile to catch."
"Yosh!" Chopper cheered once more, his spirits renewed by Luffy's display of strength.
"Alright, everyone," Luffy called out, determination burning bright within him. "Let's go save Alabasta and put an end to Crocodile's reign of terror!"
With renewed vigor, the Straw Hats charged toward the palace, their hearts filled with resolve and their minds focused on the battle that lay ahead. Though they knew the road would be fraught with danger, they pressed on, united by their shared dream and the belief that together, they could overcome even the most insurmountable odds.
And as the sun dipped below the horizon, casting Alubarna in a cloak of darkness, the Straw Hats raced toward their destiny, guided by the unwavering light of hope and friendship that burned within them.
As the Straw Hats charged into the palace, the stench of battle hung heavy in the air. The once-grand halls were now marred by splintered wood and shattered stone, a testament to the fierce fighting that had taken place. Luffy's heart burned with anger at the sight of this desecration.
"Where is Crocodile?" he growled, fists clenching tightly at his sides as his eyes darted around the room in search of their foe.
"Ah, Monkey D. Luffy," a voice drawled from the shadows. A figure emerged, tall and menacing, a reptilian smile plastered across his face. "I've been expecting you."
"Show yourself, coward!" Zoro shouted, drawing his three swords with a metallic rasp.
"Such impatience," Crocodile replied, stepping into the light. His hook gleamed menacingly in the dim illumination. "But first, let me tell you about my little surprise for Alubarna."
The Warlord towered over the ruined plaza, a jagged silhouette against the smoke-filled sky. The hem of his massive crocodile-skin coat swirled around feet encased in polished leather, as unperturbed by the surrounding carnage as the man himself.
Beneath the coat, his athletic frame rippled with barely restrained power and the memory of past battles. A sneer twisted thin lips over teeth filed to points, the only outward sign of the vicious animal that dwells within the man. Dark eyes gleamed with sinister purpose as they gazed out over the kingdom that would soon be his.
A solitary scar marred the sharp angles of his face, a lasting gift from a world that feared his ambition and the strength of his devious mind. None had matched him for sheer ruthlessness, save perhaps the young upstart Doflamingo. But while the feathered menace reveled openly in chaos, Crocodile hoarded his ambitions jealously behind a facade of civility.
He reached within the pocket of his coat and retrieved an ornate golden hook where his left hand ought to be. An eternal reminder of the weakness of mortal flesh, sacrificed for the power that now slumbered within him, awaiting his call. None could stand before his mastery of the desert sands, the means by which he would seize Alabasta for himself once and for all.
The smoke curled around him as he surveyed his future domain, the darkness gathering in his crooked smile. And the dead gazed up at him in silent accusation beneath a sky of bleeding red.
"Enough with your games, Crocodile!" Nami snapped, her Clima-Tact crackling with energy.
"I won't let you have your way," Vivi said.
"Very well, princess and friends," Crocodile said, his smile widening. "There's a bomb hidden within the city, powerful enough to level it all. And it's set to go off very soon."
"Where is it?" Robin demanded, her face hardening with determination.
"Wouldn't you like to know? You see, Nico Robin, even though you were my closest confidante, I was smart enough to not tell you everything," Crocodile taunted, chuckling softly.
"Is this why you staged this rebellion? To distract everyone while you destroy everything?" Vivi asked, her voice trembling with fear and anger.
"Indeed," Crocodile admitted, his laughter fading. "While your attention was focused on my false king, I could carry out my true plan."
"Damn you!" Sanji hissed, his foot igniting with flames.
"Enough!" Luffy roared, stretching his arm back before snapping it forward like a rubber band, aiming to strike Crocodile across the face. But the villain merely turned to sand and deftly evaded the blow, showing signs of Observation Haki.
"Very well, Straw Hat," he said, reforming his body in an instant. "How about a little one-on-one? Just you and me. It's about time you face a worthy opponent, Mugiwara."
"Fine with me," Luffy replied, his eyes narrowing dangerously. "I'll defeat you alone!"
"Then let's begin," Crocodile sneered, extending his hooked hand.
"Wait!" Luffy cried abruptly, halting the impending duel. "There's something more important we need to do first. Smoker, Ace, I need your help."
"Us?" Smoker asked skeptically, smoke billowing from his nostrils.
"Me?" Ace echoed, his brows furrowing in confusion.
"Listen up!" Luffy ordered, turning his attention to the rest of the crew. "The bomb is our priority now. Smoker, Ace, you two are the fastest. You need to find that bomb and stop it! The rest of you, handle the Baroque Work's Billions outside!"
"I'm going too!" said Pell.
"Are you sure, Luffy?" Nami asked worriedly, her grip on her Clima-Tact tightening.
"Trust me," Luffy assured her, his gaze never leaving Crocodile's smug face. "I can handle this guy. And I have faith in you all."
"Alright, Luffy," Ace agreed, a determined expression crossing his features. "We'll find that bomb!"
"Count on us, Mugiwara…" Smoker added gruffly, nodding in agreement.
"Good luck," Chopper called out, his voice wavering slightly as he watched Smoker and Ace rush off to complete their mission. In that time, Luffy whispered something in Ace's ear, piquing Crocodile's interest slightly, but not enough to warrant inquiry.
"Let's get back to the fight, then," Luffy declared, once again readying himself for the duel ahead.
"They can try all they want—they'll be too late in the end…"
Crocodile laughed. Luffy was quick to shut him up.
Crocodile's grin widened, the wrinkles of his face deepening as sand swirled around him. He raised his hooked hand and snapped his fingers, a whirlwind of sand bearing down on Luffy. The young pirate captain dodged nimbly to one side, avoiding the torrent of desert grit.
"Sables."
"Gear Second! Shave!"
"Desert Tsunami!"
"Geppo." Luffy charged and teleported through the air.
"La Spada."
"Gomu-Gomu no Gatling!" The blades of sand collapsed against the force of Luffy's Haki-Coated Fists.
"Is that all you've got?" Luffy taunted, stretching his arm back before launching it forward like a rubber band, coated in Color-of-Arms. His fist connected with Crocodile's jaw, sending the Warlord staggering backward.
"Hardly," Crocodile sneered, resiliently recovering from the blow. "This is merely the beginning."
He thrust his arms out, summoning a thick wall of sand that rushed towards Luffy. The Straw Hat captain dug his heels into the ground, bracing himself against the onslaught. As the sand closed in, a surge of determination welled up inside him.
"Gear… Fifth!" Luffy shouted, focusing his energy into his limbs. His body began to expand and elongate, muscles rippling beneath his skin.
The Straw Hats guarding the palace watched with bated breath as their captain transformed before their eyes, white fiery hair and all. The awakening soldiers on both sides had a similar response. Zoro tightened his grip on his swords, while Nami clutched her Clima-Tact nervously. Usopp trembled in awe, and Sanji lit another cigarette to still his anxious hands. Tony Tony Chopper stared wide-eyed, and Nico Robin observed the battle with a calm intensity.
"Impossible…" Crocodile whispered, his eyes widening at the sight of Luffy's new form. "How could have some rookie have achieved such power?!"
"Because he's our captain," Usopp declared, his voice shaking but resolute. "And he won't let anything stand in his way!"
"Let's finish this, Crocodile!" Luffy roared, his voice echoing across the battlefield.
"Very well," Crocodile agreed, gritting his teeth and unleashing another wave of sand. "Let us see who shall stand victorious!"
The ruined buildings of Alabasta crumbled around them as Luffy and Crocodile traded blows, their Haki-infused attacks colliding with earth-shattering force.
Crocodile snarled, "You insolent brat! I'll grind you to dust!" He swung his golden hook, releasing a huge sandstorm. "Sables!"
"Gomu Gomu no Smokescreen!" Luffy inhaled deeply and blew out a thick cloud of billowing smoke, obscuring the sandstorm. He then sprouted several hands from the smoke, shouting, "Gomu-Gomu No Clutch!" The disembodied rubbery limbs grappled onto Crocodile, restraining his limbs.
Crocodile growled, his body dissolving into sand. The sand reformed behind Luffy, hook swinging down. "You'll have to do better than that, Straw Hat!"
Luffy ducked and spun, his leg stretching and swirling into a flaming whirlwind. "Gomu-Gomu No Red Hawk!" His foot slammed into Crocodile's chest, sending the sandman flying.
"Your sand powers can't save you now!" Luffy said, popping his knuckles. "I'm gonna kick your ass!"
"Such arrogance!" Crocodile flew at Luffy, sand spear in hand. "I'll skewer you like a beast! You may have more many devil fruits and Haki, but do you truly know how to use them? I'll show you I'm not a New World Veteran for nothing!"
The answer to this question was quite obvious to anyone with half-a-brain—Luffy was toying with him at this point.
"Wax shield!" Luffy crossed his arms, encasing them in a thick sheet of wax. The sand spear shattered against the wax. Luffy then molded the wax into a giant axe and shield.
"Give up, Mugiwara!" Crocodile growled, as he tried to impale the young pirate with his hook. "You cannot hope to defeat me!"
"Never!" Luffy retorted, dodging the strike and delivering a powerful punch that sent Crocodile flying back. "I will save Alabasta and my friends!"
"You may be tough for a kid, but you're horribly naïve…"
As the battle raged on, Luffy felt a strange sensation coursing through his veins. It was as though every fiber of his being was connected to the earth beneath his feet, the wind that whipped around them, and the fire of his own spirit. He could feel the power of Joy Boy surging within him, and he knew that this would be the decisive moment.
"Take this!" Luffy shouted, stretching his arm back before launching it forward with all the force he could muster. "Gomu Gomu no… King Kong Gun!"
His fist collided with Crocodile's chest, the sheer force of the impact creating a shockwave that echoed throughout the battlefield. The Warlord gasped, the air driven from his lungs as he was sent hurtling back, crashing into the ground with a deafening thud.
"Shishishishi…"
"Impossible…" Crocodile wheezed, struggling to rise from the rubble. "How could I lose… to a mere rookie?!"
"GOMU-GOMU NO…"
"Wait! Please!"
"ELEPHANT GATLING!"
Crocodile was now a stone's throw away from death, his eyes rolling back into his head more and more with each strike.
The Straw Hats erupted into cheers as Luffy emerged victorious, rocketing into the air with a triumphant yell. All around them, the kingdom of Alabasta stirred as if awakening from a sinister dream. The insidious spell that had descended over the desert was broken at last.
They had weathered many storms together, these nine pirates, but none so fierce as the trials of Alabasta. Their journey had begun in the familiar chaos of the East Blue, battling petty tyrants and staking their claim on the sea, yet they could never have imagined it would lead them here—to the brink of a kingdom's collapse and back again.
Through it all, their resolve had never faltered. When the darkness gathered around them and all seemed lost, they lit the flame anew with the light of their belief in one another. The sea had tested their mettle time and again, and found them unyielding as a mountain that stands eternal against the beating rains.
Zoro grinned around the hilt of Wadou Ichimonji, the thrill of victory surging in his veins. Nami leaned against her Clima-Tact and smiled, the future unfolding sunny and bright once more. Usopp danced about, recounting their legion battles to an enraptured Chopper. Sanji blew a wisp of smoke and gazed up at the blue sky, the vision of a lovely Alabasta princess shimmering in his visible eye.
Vivi watched her people begin to stir with renewed hope, her heart swelling with a joy as boundless as the desert sands. The Straw Hats had saved her kingdom when all seemed lost, chasing away the shadows that had fallen over Alabasta. Their faith had been her light in the darkness.
Luffy stretched his arms skyward, flashing a smile more radiant than the sun. "Shishishi! We did it!"
What Luffy was truly glad about was the fact that he didn't kill Crocodile.
Vivi and her father, the venerable King Cobra, bowed low before the strange assortment of pirates and marines that had come to their kingdom's aid. "Thank you for saving Alabasta," Cobra said, his voice thick with gratitude. "We are forever in your debt."
Vivi smiled along with the others, though a twinge of disappointment stirred within her breast. She had relied entirely on the formidable strength of her friends to wrest Alabasta from the brink of ruin instead of being able to protect her people herself. Her kingdom had nearly crumbled before her eyes, and she had been powerless against the forces that assailed it.
As the celebrations began in earnest and music and laughter filled the palace halls once more, Vivi approached Luffy. The rubber boy was cheering loudly and making a mess, as usual, but his smile faded when he glimpsed the solemn look on Vivi's face.
"Luffy, I wish to join your crew," Vivi said. Luffy's eyes grew wide with surprise.
"I want to become stronger," she continued, "so that I may protect others as you do. I want to be fierce and fearless like you, Luffy!"
King Cobra's objections rang out at once. "Vivi, what are you saying?" he cried. "You are my only heir—you can't possibly become a pirate!"
Vivi gazed up at her father, her eyes begging him to understand. "Father, I have relied too long on your strength and that of others. I nearly lost our kingdom for want of my own power. I wish to sail with the Straw Hats, to face the dangers of the sea and grow strong enough to stand as a shield before our people."
Cobra saw the raw determination etched on his daughter's face. Though it pained him to lose her, he knew at last he must let Vivi forge her own path—and her own strength. His objections crumbled before the vision of the queen she was becoming.
Luffy's face lit up with delight at the thought of the vivacious Vivi joining their wayward crew. And Vivi smiled, her heart swelling with a joy to rival the desert sky, and love for the ragtag pirates that had saved her kingdom when all hope seemed lost. Her adventures at their side were only just beginning.
Luffy grinned, opening his mouth to reply, when a booming voice interrupted. "I think I may have a solution for that, your majesty. Now where is my good-for-nothing grandson?! Oh, there you are."
A hulking Marine stormed into the palace, his dog by his side. Vice Admiral Garp had arrived.
"Grandpa?!" Luffy exclaimed in shock. The others stared in disbelief. This Marine hero was Luffy's grandfather?
"Nice to see you too Jii-chan… Oi, Ace—"
Ace was nowhere to be found. "Weird, he was just here…"
Garp stomped over to Luffy, grabbing his cheek and stretching it, too distracted to pay attention to the mention of his other grandson. "I turn my back for five minutes and you've toppled a Warlord! And now the brass wants you to take his place, you troublemaker!"
This time, the gathered, from Smoker to Cobra, had time to form a proper reaction.
"WHAT?! EHHHHHH?!"
