Gonsmoss: Thank you for pointing out the issue with Weiss' name and I'll agree that joke was only ok at best.
AN: I was kinda shocked to see so many reviews. Thank you so very much. That just makes me want to write more and make it as good as I can. Now I must watch RWBY again to help with certain events and conversations. That will be fun but man I forgot about the old season 1 art style. Also, warning Combat is coming up in this chapter. I've gotten better than say my MHA fics honestly I think it's because I started out as a fantasy author so weapon fighting is a little closer to my wheelhouse but I am not perfect I will make mistakes but I will try to limit them… ok why the fuck does the wiki have the transcripts? Whatever. Still had to watch the show to get ideas for certain parts.
Chapter 9
Ruby awoke from a dream involving an endless supply of cookies and milk with a groan. Sleeping on the hard ground was something she would have to get used to or at least that's what uncle Qrow kept saying. Noticing Yang was already gone, Ruby pushed herself up and sleepily walked to the showers. After having woken up from the shower and brushing her teeth, she made her way to the cafeteria, grabbed a bowl, and poured herself some surgery cereal.
"Heya Ruby! Cereal huh? I'm more partial to pancakes myself." Nora slide in front of her.
"Nora. Finish your breakfast." Ren came and put a half-eaten pancake in front of her and sat down with his own plate.
"So are you excited huh? It's going to be so much fun! Who's team do you think you'll be on?" Nora woofed down her last pancake and stared at Ruby.
"Kinda. I'm really nervous though What if I'm stuck with the girl from yesterday?" Ruby spun her spoon in the milk.
"What happened there exactly?" Ren asked. Ruby retold the events as they put the dishes away and walked to the lockers.
"WAIT WHAT?!" Nora screamed as they got to the end.
"Her names Weiss Schnee?" Ruby repeated as a question.
"Talking about yesterday Rubes?" Yang asked as they approached their lockers. Ruby nodded and Nora didn't seem pleased.
"Of course the snow queen is here! Why does the world hate me?" Nora lamented.
"Nora?" Ren and Ruby asked.
"Long story short we met once and she was not very nice. Now I don't know what she's like now but she didn't give the best first impression." Nora pulled out her weapon checking to see if she had all her ammo and flung it over her shoulder. "Who knows maybe she's nicer now."
"She yelled at me," Ruby said.
"Could have been nervous?" Ren suggested.
"They right Ruby. You didn't meet in the best way. But if she is still a bitch I'm going to have some words for her."
Jaune was busy looking for his locker. He was certain he put his stuff in 636 but Char kept saying it was 363. Unfortunately, he just had to check to make sure. Opening the locker he say nothing and Char giggled.
'You're bored this morning huh?' Jaune grumbled.
'What can I say gotta find entertainment somehow.' Char shrugged. Jaune sighed and continued on his way to his gear. He passed his friends as they got ready and waved. They waved back and he continued on his way. He noticed that Pyrrha had decided to come to Beacon and her locker wasn't far from his.
"So, Pyrrha, have you given any thought to whose team you'd like to be on? I'm sure everyone must be eager to unite with such a strong, well-known individual such as yourself!" He sighed as he heard Weiss attempt to recruit Pyrrha. He finished equipping his armor and decided to watch this play out.
"Hmm... I'm not quite sure. I was planning on letting the chips fall where they may." Pyrrha hoped Weiss would leave after hearing that.
"Well... I was thinking maybe we could be on a team together." Weiss offered. Jaune figured she would ask that.
'When you're famous you miss the time when people didn't try riding your coat tails.' Char mumbled.
'It's a smart idea though. Pyrrha is a strong fighter. I just wish Weiss noticed uncomfortable she is.' Jaune responded.
"Well, that sounds grand!" Pyrrha forced a smile. Jaune sighed walking over to the two.
"Great!" Weiss cheerfully stated.
"I doubt Beacon allows students to pick out their teams That would be too easy. Names Jaune Arc it's nice to meet you." Jaune said.
"Ah um nice to meet you Jaune," Pyrrha replied. "You might be right."
"Yeah well, maybe we could convince them?" Weiss replied hopefully.
"Maybe but why do you wish to be on her team?" Jaune asked.
"Do… you not know who this is?!" Weiss sputtered.
"Pyrrha Nikos. So what? She's just one person teams consist of four." Jaune noticed Pyrrha's shoulders drop.
"So what? SO WHAT?! Pyrrha has won the Mistral Region Tournaments four times in a row!" Weiss shouted.
"So she's a good fighter is that your only reason? Personally, I hope to be teamed up with someone I can trust. I don't care about previous achievements. Heck, are you forgetting she lost a few months ago?" Jaune pointed out.
"Indeed I did. He was quite the opponent. I heard he was offered a spot in Atlas. I don't know if he took it though." Pyrrha commented.
"That was just luck!" Weiss retorted.
"And all it takes is one lucky strike from a Grimm. How about this, you learn how groups are being made first then if it doesn't work out you can try asking?" Jaune offered. Weiss opened her mouth then a thoughtful look crossed her face.
"I guess you're right. It was a pleasure talking to you Pyrrha." Weiss grabbed her rapier and walked off.
"See you in a little bit Weiss. Thank you." Pyrrha bowed.
"Don't thank me there's still a chance you'll be paired up," Jaune stated.
"I guess you're right, sorry." Pyrrha bowed again.
"Jeez, you don't need to apologize." Jaune rubbed his head.
"Sorry."
"Stop! No more apologizing today ok." Jaune announced.
"Sor… ok. Well, it was nice meeting you Jaune." Pyrrha took her gear and ran off.
"Yo... *sigh* whatever. Might as well get my weapon." Jaune tried telling her she had already said that but she was gone. He turned to his locker and grabbed his sword and shield.
"Rough morning huh lady killer." Yang chuckled.
"Hey, she looked uncomfortable I just tried to help like any decent person," Jaune said defensively.
"Well let's get to the initiation Jaune." Ruby grabbed his arm and started pulling him along.
"Awwww already found your partner Ruby." Yang teased.
"YANG!"
They all gathered on the cliff overlooking the emerald forest. All the students were split up into two groups of sixteen and each was directed to a metal plate with Beacons insignia on them. They all stood there waiting as the headmaster Ozpin took a sip from his mug and the Vice Headmaster Glynda wrote a few things down. Ozpin sat his mug to the side and walked up before them.
"For years, you have trained to become warriors, and today, your abilities will be evaluated in the Emerald Forest." Most students smiled at the thought of fighting the Grimm.
"Now, I'm sure many of you have heard rumors about the assignment of "teams." Well, allow us to put an end to your confusion. Each of you will be given teammates... today." Glynda said.
"Oh no." Ruby looked at her friends hoping they were on the same team. Ozpin smiled.
"These teammates will be with you for the rest of your time here at Beacon. So it is in your best interest to be paired with someone with whom you can work well." Ozpin smirked, "That being said, the first person you make eye contact with after landing will be your partner for the next four years." Ruby's world was shattered.
"After you've partnered up, make your way to the northern end of the forest. You will meet opposition along the way. Do not hesitate to destroy everything in your path... or you will die." Ozpin had a serious look as he explained their test.
"You will be monitored and graded through the duration of your initiation, but our instructors will not intervene. You will find an abandoned temple at the end of the path containing several relics. Each pair must choose one and return to the top of the cliff. We will regard that item, as well as your standing, and grade you appropriately. Are there any questions?" None of the students spoke up. "Good. I wish you all luck with your landing strategies." Ozpin and Glynda walked to the side.
"Well, this is more brutal than the Zeon military school," Char stated while watching the teens get launched off the cliff.
"Isn't this a bit much?" Amuro asked.
"Well, they are learning to fight creatures that are trying to destroy humanity." Char notice Amuro was getting distracted and Ren was about to be up. "Have a nice flight."
"Wait? WhAT?!" Amuro is launched out of his chair and disappears.
Jaune flew through the air and quickly analyzed the forest he was falling into. He shifted his sword and let out a blast from the hidden shotgun and when he slowed he spun and struck a tree and heated the blade slightly burning the wood but sliding down the trunk. When he landed he immediately took in his surroundings. He noticed Yang flying through the air still and then he heard running. Being cautious he brought his weapon in a defensive position till he heard yelling.
"YANG! YANG!" He smirked and lowered his weapon as Ruby shot through the bushes.
"Hey, Rubes. Guess we're partners." She skidded to a halt as Jaune greeted her.
"Guess so. Now what?" Ruby looked around.
"We continue north. Onward to adventure!" Jaune raised his ax up high.
Nora flew through the air shooting a few grenades. She used her aura to start bouncing off branches. By the time she slowed she noticed a girl with a bow kill an Ursa.
"Aww, a wanted a shot at it." Nora regretted the flushing at the end of her descent. The girl looked up and studied her.
"I guess we're partners." She bluntly stated.
"Yuppers! I'm Nora Valkyrie at your service." Nora saluted with her hammer.
"Blake Belladonna. Let's continue north." Blake turned and started walking.
Ren spun around the tree and nearly hit someone on the way down. He watched as they dropped into a crouch. It was Pyrrha Nikos.
"Been awhile Pyrrha," Ren said.
"Why hello, Ren it looks like we are partners." She smiled seeing a familiar face.
"I pity whoever got Nora. Did you see any Grimm around?" Ren asked.
"There's a King Taitiju not far off and a few Ursa's," Pyrrha said.
"Shouldn't be too hard but let's not get too distracted we need to go north." Ren pulled out StormFlower.
Yang finally stopped in a roll and heard a rustle. She peered around and saw a bush move.
"Ruby?" An Ursa rose up.
"Nope." Yang activated her gauntlets and shot towards the Grimm. She ducked under its swing and punched it in the gut letting off a shotgun blast. With the Ursa caught off guard, it flailed its arms. Yang noticed a lock of her hair and she saw red. She pummeled the Ursa into dust but then heard the howl of a beowolf. She turned to find the Grimm frozen.
"Jeez, be more careful." Weiss Schnee walked out from behind it.
"Great." Yang wondered if her luck could get worse.
"The final team is together. Weiss Schnee and Yang Xiao Long," Glynda watched the screen and brought the two girls together.
"It's going to be an interesting year, that's for sure." Ozpin watched as Weiss finished the Beowulf.
AN: Partners have been made. One of my issues with RWBY is almost every single partner group gets romantically involved so let us see how it plays out when that doesn't happen. I now retreat back to my cave as I wait for my model kits to get here.
