AN: Going to have a short chapter or two before the actual matches. To the person saying Char hated axes, are you for real? If he did the Sazabi and or nightingale wouldn't have beam tomahawks. This is a warning this chapter is kinda dark. Today was a weird day friend and I spent a good while talking about Rwby and our issues with it. Not entirely sure why lol. Personally, I think there's a lot of missed potential and overall it's an ok series now not great but not bad. Still, I'm kinda excited for this Ice Queendom thing.

Chapter 26

Volume 3

Ren found himself walking the streets of Vale and something didn't sit right with him. Amuro wasn't making comments on the recent events, but more than that it was like he wasn't even with Ren anymore. He picked up his pace feeling a queasiness and found himself hunched over a barrel. After he stopped gagging he looked around to get his bearings and his stomach dropped. He wasn't in Vale he was back in Mistral. The crispness of the air burned his nostrils and eyes. What was happening where was everyone? He started at a dead sprint and started running through the streets.

"Pyrrha? Yang? Weiss?" He called out their names as his throat burned. "NORA?!" He repeated this process every few blocks hoping they would hear him. Slowly he was losing hope and his chest felt tight. Had they left him? Was he all alone now? Why was this happening? His legs were burning and his lungs hurt but he pushed forward.

"Ruby? Blake?" He called for his other friends. "JAUNE!?" Still, nothing, all he could hear was the creaking of old buildings.

"Ren?" Yang's voice called out to him. He was about to give up but he looked around and saw a new street and ran down it.

"Why did you leave us?!" Weiss's voice accused. He tried to speak but it hurt so he was determined to follow the voices.

"I thought we were partners? We were a family?" Pyrrha's voice asked. They were! He'd never leave them, he'd die before that happened.

"What were we? Was I nothing to you?" Nora's voice sobbed. A knife-like pain stabbed him in the heart. Nora was special she wasn't nothing, she was everything. His legs buckled and he stumbled to the ground in front of a building that terrified him. It was the same building a Young Nora and him hid under during the attack. He clawed his way under it again and curled into a ball.

"Why did you hurt them?" Ruby sounded close to crying. Hurt who?

"Why did you let this happen? Why did you let Yang get hurt?" Blake accused him. Yang is not hurt. Is she?

"You betrayed us! You betrayed our family! I can't believe I saw you as a brother. You disgust me." The anger in Jaune's voice pushed Ren further into the fetal position.

"I… didn't… do… anything… please don't… leave." Ren horsly called out. He opened his voice again but the fog rolled in and when it dispersed he felt sick. All around the house were the bodies of his friends broken and twisted at unnatural angles. He caught Pyrrha looking at him and her mouth moved.

"Ren? Help… me…" Pyrrha croaked out until a dark arm he still had nightmares of grabbed her and dragged her away. He tried getting up but he found his legs were pinned by ruble and he could do nothing but watch as each of his friends asked the same of him before suffering the same fate. One by one they all vanished until they were all gone. The building shook and slowly was lifted up. The black form of that thing was right there lumbering towards him. The clawed hand grabbed him by the head and the force felt like a thousand hammers. He was dragged up and what he saw caused him to scream. He was looking at a twisted bloody version of himself. He screamed and begged as he was pulled closer. The thing opened its jaw and he could see his friends becoming him to joining this macabre scene.

"Is he going to be ok Pyr?" Yang asked as Ren trashed in the bed. Pyrrha removed the cloth and replaced it with a new one.

"His fever is going down so he'll be fine with some more rest," Pyrrha said as she checked the thermometer.

"We can always stay and help." Weiss offered, looking at their sick team member. Pyrrha shook her head.

"You two go on ahead to class Ren's my partner so it's my duty to make sure he's fine." Pyrrha looked at them. They all were woken up last night when Ren started screaming their names. He was burning up and had ragged breathing. They had informed the headmaster and the nursing staff had come to look at him. They said he must have caught some kind of bug and took him to the infirmary. They hadn't left his side since. He kept begging them not to leave. They had informed their friends what had happened and they had to hold Nora back from rushing to him Once the nurses had cleared the rest of the team they were allowed to leave and finish the classes for the day.

"We should probably be there for Nora, Weiss." Yang reasoned.

"As much as I don't want to admit it you're right." Weiss sighed. "We'll be back later, don't go making yourself sick Pyrrha the nurses can watch him so please get some rest."

"I'll… I'll try," Pyrrha said feeling weak being unable to help anymore.

Jaune and his team sat at their normal table for lunch waiting for word on their friend. Ruby was being quiet eating her food before leaning on him for comfort. Blake was comforting a distraught Nora while trying to coax her into eating saying she needed something in her to keep her strength up. She hadn't even eaten the pancakes they had offered her this morning. Slowly Yang and Weiss sat down across from them and as if seeing the question in their eyes spoke up.

"His fever is going down. As long as nothing happens the nurses think he'll be better in a few days as long as he rests." Weiss explained.

"Can…can I s-see him…" Nora said trying not to cry.

"We don't know I can ask after classes," Yang said.

"You'll probably be able to soon, but for how long I'm not sure." Weiss offered a small smile.

"Thank you." Blake pushed a small plate of pancakes towards Nora and she slowly started to eat.

It was a day before the nurses said it was ok for outsiders to visit but they had to keep quiet and they could only stay for an hour at a time. Slowly Ren got better and after he got out of the infirmary his team was a lot closer to him and Nora wouldn't leave his side. It was still a month and a half until the festival began So Ren started to train slowly as his body regained his strength.
