A Families Absolution
A/N: Didn't intend this to be a Christmas special, but oh well. I don't have the best planning in the world. It's also been so long since I updated this. Anyway, Merry Christmas everyone and I hope you enjoy.
3 Months Earlier
Months have passed since the day of the tournament Blair has participated in. Over the course of the past few months, Red Hat has been spending less time at the pro leagues. Even blantantly ignoring matches and phone calls for a match, just to spend more time with Blair. To say Blair was feeling stressed out was an understatment. Over the curse of a few months, not only has her stomach been growing inside. Red Hat was constantly always trying his best to be by her side to know if she was okay.
Blair often sighed, saying she would be alright, and he was just overracting. It wasn't until later on where she would start feeling the faigue, occasional headaches, lashing out at times, and needed a bit more help around the house when she was feeling stressed out or tired. While she was able to do everything on her own, she appreicated Red Hat for helping her out.
On this paticular day however, she noticed something was wrong with Red Hat. There was something going on where she was always left in the dark about. Red Hat would often tell her it's nothing, or everything is ok. This paticular day is when she found out, things were not okay when she found him writing down on something.
"Honey, just what are you doing? You been very secretive for a while now. What's wrong?" Blair asked as she walked over to his side.
Red Hat didn't answer and attempted to hide what he was writing. "Nothing special, Blair."
Blair narrowed her eyes. "Now I know you're lying. You been acting strange these past couple of weeks. I even had to answer phone calls for you from the pro leagues, saying you're not feelig well. I know you don't take sponsors, but you don't out right refuse a match. That's not like you at all."
"Blair, it's not what you think." Red Hat denied.
Blair however, was not buying any of it and took the sheet of paper Red Hat was trying to hide from her. She glossed over and realized what it was. "This is a job application. Red Hat, what's the meaning of this?"
Red Hat sighed and stood up. He knew Blair would find out eventually. "After that fiasco the a few monthes back. I've been trying to see if I could try new things."
Blair stared at him in confusion. "Eh? Just what do you mean. You already have a successful dueling career. Why just throw it all away for something so trivial? This isn't like you."
Red Hat tried to look at her in the eye, but lowered his hat to avoid her gaze. "After that fiasco I pulled. I wanted to try something new. My expectations on dueling is too high..." He then looked at her hard gaze. "I don't want to force our child into dueling, especially if it means they'll just dislike it."
Blair then suddenly gave him a good slap on the cheek. Red Hat ignored the sting on on his cheek. "Red Hat, this is not the answer. Why throw away your career just because of a mistake you made. This isn't what I want, this isn't what you want."
"I wanted to make amends after what I've been doing. Last thing I want is to become incredibly toxic to my new family just because of my high expectation of dueling." He said, rubbing his cheek from Blair's slap.
Blair sat down on the couch and sighed as she rubbed her swollen belly. "You're still thinking about that? Red Hat, you shouldn't judge someone that has yet to be born. How would you know what they will like or don't like?"
Red Hat remained silent, unable to answer her question.
"Listen, if our children love dueling, that's great. If they don't and decide on a different path, that's okay too. You're going about it the wrong way. Why are you still holding onto that mentality?" asked Blair, still rubbing her belly.
Red Hat sat down next to her and lowered his hat. "For the longest time, I was considered the most powerful duelist. Eventually I found find out, that's not always true. Sometimes I'd lose, but that only inspired me to get better and learn more."
"There's more to it then that right." Blair replied.
"My old man once said, while I have a career of dueling, I should also learn more or have back ups. In case all falls apart. He once said, what if my career falls apart. If not by my mistakes or by external means that aren't in my control. Then, what will I do then? I was told to broaden my skills." explained Red Hat.
"While it's true, that you should learn more skills. That's still doesn't mean you should throw away your career. You proven you refuse to fail under such circumstaces. You've done so much with dueling, so to just quit isn't like you. We got together because of dueling. We made bonds because of dueling." Blair removed his hat and stared directly at his eyes. "Is something still bothering you? Cause it feels like you been hiding something for a while now."
Red Hat took a deep breath as he continued. "During my adventure in the other world. I was told by spirits that originally I wasn't supposed to exist originally. My existance changed the world, even if I was never actually involved. It made me question, did I influence anything or anyone. Was everything I knew, just a lie? Do I really deserve you or any of the changes along the way? I seen a different time, if I wasn't around. I haven't thought about it in years... until recently. Made me question if we were really meant to be or all would fall apart as I kept trying so hard."
Blair took his hand and her look soften. "Red Hat, weather you want to believe it or not, you have changed and influence a lot of people." Blair returned his hat and put it back on. "I'm still here and by your side. I want you to understand, I chosed you because of who you are and how far you were willing to go. You done so much for me that no one else was able to do. I'm the woman I am today because of you. I wanted to be by your side, I wanted to become a top duelist not only for you, but for myself. This may sound be strange, but I'd be nothing without you. You mean a lot to me, Red Hat. Don't think about what you saw, if you never existed. All that matters is, you do exist here. We care abiut you, I care about you. I would be nothing with out you, Red Hat my darling."
Red Hat pulled her in for a hug. "Sometimes I wonder what I did to deserve you Blair."
Blair wrapped her arms around him. "You're quite stubborn and at a loss for words. I'm used to it, at this point." As Blair leaned in, they soon hear the phone ringing. "You're going to get that. Do you know how many times I had to answer that phone and give so many excuses."
Red Hat chuckled as he let go of her. "I'll answer it then." Red Hat stood up and picked up the ringing phone.
While Red Hat was talking on the phone. Blair remain on the couch and lightly rubbed her swollen stomach. 'This is a huge resonsibility. We're both stressed out on this matter. Life is never easy isn't it?' She thought with a slight smile on her face. 'Sometimes I like to think, our child would prove him wrong, but that's for fate to decide. We still don't know, but I'd like to be surprised. Red Hat, you may not believe ot, but you changed the world.'
As soon as Red Hat stoped talking and hung up the phone. He sat down on the couch next to her again. "Well, I got another match planned later this week. Although the location is at Venice."
Blair blinked a few times to process the info she was given. "Venice, Italy? Why all the way over there?"
"I don't know, but I'll have to be ready for travel for my match. I don't know what to expect, but I need to be ready." He replied.
"You said later this week. I'll prepare you food for your trip. The rest is up to you." Blair smiled as she closed her eyes. "I'm glad you realized, I love you because you're a duelist. If the match is important, I'll support you."
"You sure you'll be alright on you're own while I'm gone?" He asked worryingly.
Blair glanced at him, while keeping her smile. "I'm not a helpless girl, Red Hat. I can handle myself, while you're gone for a short time. I know you worry about me, but I can handle myself. I have to learn to handle things alone."
Red Hat smiled and leaned in and kissed her. "Sorry for getting so worked up. I'm just worried since you are pregnant. I never meant to doubt you."
Blair lightly blushed. "Okay, enough being a bit mushy. I'll prepare you some lunch for your trip so you can go out and obtain a plane ticket, and figure out the shedule. Try not to take to many things while you get all ready."
"Alright then. I never planned to take off to another country for a match, but what can you do." Red Hat stood up and heads to the master bedroom.
While it would take a while for Blair to prepare a small amount of food for Red Hat. In the meanwhile, Red Hat got everything he ever need for his trip. He got his deck, his duel disk, a small portion of money he could spend during his trip he was planning, and a backpack to carry the small amount of the things he needed. Once we got all ready, still dressed in his usal manner. Blair was just about half way done with the food she was cooking up for him.
While he was waiting for Blair to finish cooking his meal. He decided to head to a nearby desktop to look up the schedule for a plain ride. After looking around for possible scedules, he concluded one of them would fly later today in the evening. If he hurried, he would be able to purchase a plane ticket for himself at the right time. While this would leave him with very little time to prepare, as it did come off as short notice. He then made a few phone calls to see if he would be able to buy a plane ticket for the paticular time today.
After a while of conformation, Red Hat was able to get the information need to get himself a plane ticket to fly off the same day. While he won't have much time to prepare, in fact only less then a few hours. He would do what ever he can to not miss his match that was coming later down the week. As soon as he was done, Blair called out to him. Saying she just finished making him lunch.
"Here you go my darling. I made you lunch." She said in her usual cheery way as she handed him her bento box.
Red Hat smiles and takes the bento box of lunch and carefully places it in his backpack. "I already know this is going to be amazing food."
"Speaking of which, how's planning for a plane ride to Venice going for you?" She asked.
"It took a bit longer then expected, but I was able to find away to buy a plane ticket today. The main reason, is cause a plane is about to take off to Venice today. Talk about short notice." He explained.
Blair shook her head. "I never said head out today, but if you're willing to go that far. Then go for it my darling. Strange since they don't normally allow shot notice plane rides."
"What ever the case, I'm glad I'm lucky enough to get one on such short notice. You sure you'll be alright by yourself while I'm gone?" He asked with a worried tone.
Blair smiled at him. "If I was able to last two years without you. I'm sure I can handle a week at best on my own. I'll be okay, Red Hat. Even if I'm vulnerable."
"In that case." Red Hat takes out a card from his deck and gives it to her. "Take this card just in case..."
Blair took the card from him and was shocked what he gave her... again. "Stardust Dragon? Why would you entrust me with your card? I can't just take it from you!"
"It's to show our ond for each other Blair. Even if you already have both Lightsworn and Black Rose Dragon." Red Hat then takes her hands. "We may not always agree on many things, but I still love you and trust you with him while I'm gone." He then leans in and kissed Blair. "Now you may consider this ood, but I think he'll protect you."
Blair smiled. "While I never had the best experience with spirits, I know you're telling the truth. You once told me, I have a connection to my lightsworns. Even if I can't communicate with them like you can. It's good to know, they have a lot of faith in me... even back then."
"I rather not remember that one time, but it's all in the past now." Red Hat gives her one last hug before he heads out. Before he closes the door. "Take care my dearest. I'll back as soon as I can."
Blair waves at him. "You better win that duel and come back safely. Remember darling, you're a duelist at heart, and so am I. I married a duelist and now is the time to start acting like it again."
Red Hat smiles. "You won't be disappointed, Blair." He said and closes the door as he takes off to catch a ride.
Red Hat takes a bus ride to the site where he would by a ticket before heading for he air port. While he would wait around, he decided to think about other plans. He would have to find a way to travel around. Taking rides on busses and running around from place to place isn't going to fly for much longer. Over the past few months riding on busses for transport or when they have to go shopping has become tiresome doing it in this manner. He had to decide in investing on a vehicle of sort for transport. It would make things a lot easier for them, but that was for another time.
It wouldn't be long before the bus stoped close enough to the station where Red Hat would buy a plane ticket. When he entered the building, it was quite packed with people. He ignored most of the looks he got from many people and waited around until he was able to buy a ticket or get information. While would it take longer then he expected and after many info dumps from the receptionist. He was finally able to buy a plane ticket. Now all that's left was to get to the air port in time.
Red Hat made it to the air port with an hour to spare. Despite the fact, he wasn't to far from the airport. Getting past all check ups, security, and detectors which were mandatory. He had to wonder why the air port had so many mandates and regulations, but now wasn't the time to ponder on such trivial matters. After getting his backpack back from the detectorsshe walked along with everyone else who was going to Venice. It wouldn't take too long, but the plane to Venice soon took off once everyone got to their seats and everything was ready. Red Hat would take his backpack and eat his lunch that Blair prepared for him early.
As Red Hat slept on his seat undisturbed. He soon woke up to find himself, not in his seat, but in the spirit realm. He took a look at his surroundings and noticed the place he was in. His location was a white palace with a bright a sky. As he looked below, he noticed the entire realm he was in was full of light.
"Just where am I?" He questioned as he slowly triversed the area until he reached the main gates of the palace. He then noticed multiple duel spirits hanging around outside the palace grounds. His thoughts were soon interrupted by familiar faces.
"Feeling troubled?"
Red Hat turned around and saw not only his duel spirit partner Aussa, but also another one of her friends he met once. Lyna the Light Charmer. "Guess you can say that. I'm never too sure what happens when I come to the spirit realm."
"You really shouldn't feel so troubled when you're brought here. You're in no danger." Lyna pointed out.
"How have you two been?" He asked.
"Save the questions for later. Right now, someone wants to speak with you. Come with us." Lyna ordered. Red Hat nodded and followed both female charmers into the the palace as the gates opened. Red Hat took a look at the other spirits. He felt like he was being watched by them, but none of them actually had a look of disgust. Rather, a look of curiosity.
As he entered the palace with the charmers by his side. The interior of the palace was lit up with a bunch of chandeliers and the occasional candle on the walls. In one of the rooms he spoted, he could have sworn he saw a priestess performing a chant on an alter. However, he didn't have much time to completely examine his surroundings as they reached a gate deep into the palace.
"We're here. Normally not many spirits are allowed pass this point. You been invited to enter." Lyna explained.
"Who could possibly want me to enter these 'sacred' grounds?" He questioned.
"You still haven't figured it out? This is the Lightsworn Palace." Aussa relpied.
Red Hat's eyes widen as he heard that. "Wait, the Lightsworn Palace? As in the other spirits I saw back there were the lightsworns?"
"You just found out? For someone who claims to be smart, you are quite slow to catch on." Lyna teased.
"Ha ha, very funny. Alright, let's get this over with." As the gates open up, Red Hat notices the huge open area of this room. The area felt like some kind of dominion of the sorts. Part of the roof was completely open, big enough to fit a certain being from it. Yet, he noticed there was some sort of barrier on that spot. Despite this, he found no one note worthy inside this room. He then noticed that Aussa and Lyna went to a knee.
"Bow and show respect. He's here." Lyna said.
Red Hat did as he was told and went to a kneee. As he looked up, a majestic looking dragon decended from the skies as the barrier opened up. The dragon had white fur with red talons and a large wing span. He soon realized who this dragon actually was. It was none other then Judgement Drago. He knew this dragon possessed such great power. So, it was in his best interest not to anger him.
'Rise, the one in the red hat.' The dragon ordered.
'Telepathy...' He thought as he rose as ordered.
'Have any idea why you are here?' JD asked.
"I have no idea, my lord..." Red Hat answered. Feeling a bit awkward calling the dragon that.
'You were called here for other purposes. Ever wonder why your maiden was chosen by us?' JD questioned him.
"I have no idea myself. Blair once told me, she just found deck one day after checking new cards. She then tested them against me on that same day and defeated me." He explained.
'You are half correct. She was chosen by the us to wield our power.' JD corrected.
"May I ask, how was she was worthy? I'm very curious." He questioned.
'In a different time, in a different world. She was not worthy of wielding our power. However, your existence has changed that. She found somethng and someone to strive for. Our power is what also allowed you to be free from the darkness in your heart.' JD explained.
Red Hat remembered that one time when Blair decided to duel him in such a big crowd. Back then, he grown apathy towards many duelists around this time. When he was asked to be duel against them. He lightly brushed them off, as he felt like they weren't worth his time. Back then, he grew tired of dueling people that didn't met his expectations. Then all of a sudden, Blair showed up and challenged him to a duel. At first, he wanted to brush her off, but he couldn't do that, if it meant looking bad in front of everyone. He accepted her challenge. Despite his experience, he was not prepared for the deck Blair had in store which was Lightsworn. It was the first time he lost a duel by poor optimization of the deck he had at the time. That's when he started to realize, besides his few other encounters. He wasn't unbeatable as he so believed after certain events, and he shouldn't just brush off his opponents.
'Your heart was tainted by your own inner demons. It was with our power and her strong will that allowed you to realize your own mistakes, and conquer the darkness in your heart.' JD explained.
"Unrelated question. What do you mean by different reality? I keep being told that, yet I never get answers." Red Hat asked.
'In a different time, and a different reality. Where you never existed. She wasn't worthy of wielding our power, nor was anyone else for that matter. However, that changed when you were created into this world. You and the Maiden share a deep connection that can't be split. When she met you, a bnd slowly started to form, a bound which changed her ways and had something to strive for. That is how she was able to find us and use our power.' JD explained.
Aussa spoke up. "Remember what I said before? The deck found her, not the other way around. You were the one who allowed her to become the woman she is now. She was the one most effected by your influence. When she saw you act very differently from before back then, that gave her the motivation to change that. Not only you, but herself as well. She had something to strive for, where as in the realm JD saw, she didn't have the same motivation. Your Maiden drastically changed because of you. Only, you were just to blinded by your own past and insecurities to realize it."
"It's not often just one person is able to change the fate of the world, even if you didn't directly influeced it. Most of us spirits couldn't have known someone of your caliber could exist, but here you are. Despite the rumors and what evil beings have you believe. You are a part of this world as much as everyone else. You are not a demon or a devil. The divine have no influence over you. You chosed your path without any influence from others. We're here to help you out when you most need it." Lyna explained.
Red Hat couldn't help but smile. "Sometimes I wonder what I did to deserve all of this. Never would have thought I enlisted this amount of change... especially to Blair."
'You now have a new goal in life. It's in your best interest to prepare yourself. We've been watching your Maiden. We have her protected for the longest time. Your desire to protect and care for her is what made you stronger. Strong enough to wield him...' JD pointed out.
"Him? You mean... Stardust Dragon and the other two dragons?" Red Hat questioned.
'Under normal circumstances, neither of you can wield them. Since, you weren't the chosen ones. However, you both were granted to use their power. Their power is to protect you two. Their existence this early already caused curiosity among other humans.'
"So I see." Red Hat smiled. "I thank you for explaining everything JD. Thank you for watching over Blair."
'You are dismissed.' With that JD soon ascended backinto the heavens.
"Time to go." Aussa said as the both of them stood up and they began to leave the sacred grounds.
Red Hat sits down at the bottom of the steps of the lightsworn palace. Aussa and Lyna soon join him. "To think, the Lightsworn spirits have been watching over Blair... And all of this about alternitive worlds... It makes my head spin."
"Hard to believe a world changes by one person's existance, isn't it?" Aussa said.
"Yeah... the fact even back then, Blair was protected by the Lightsworn." He replied.
"She changed a lot because of you." Lyna blushed as she placed a hand on her cheek. "Reminds me of those times when Dharc has been taking care of me."
Red Hat raised an eye brow. "Do I dare ask?"
Aussa spoke up. "Dharc the Dark Charmer and Lyna the Light Charmer are childhood friends. They were orphans for a long time, until they were found by our former teacher, Elemental Mistress Doirado."
"It's silly, but back then, Ms. Doriado didn't have any training with darkness. She mastered all elements, except darkness. So Dharc had to train with the ShadowPriestess of Ohm." Lyna shuddered as she mention that woman's name. "That woman still gives me the creeps. Dharc trained under her wing, even though he wasn't too fond of her."
"You all have such a tale to tell." Red Hat said with a smile. "This is silly, but you charmers are like family to us."
Aussa couldn't help but chuckle at his comment. "I never expected to be your partner for so long to be considered family. Let alone the others to also be part of the same family. A family with spirits by your side. Fate is strange sometimes, isn't it?"
"It sure is." He replied.
"Maybe when your woman finally gives birth. Invite all of us to see them!" Lyna suggested.
"That's a tall order, even for us." Aussa reminded her.
"There could be a way. I wouldn't mind if you all showed up in spirit form." said Red Hat.
"Well then, we'll gladly take the invite. We'll see you soon." Aussa said as she and Lyna waved to him. "Time for you to return."
Red Hat waved at them back. "I'll be looking forward to it."
Red Hat would soon wake up back in his seat in the plane. As he took a look out the window, he noticed the plane was about to land in Venice, although it was clearly sunset. Sometimes he wondered how spending time in the spirit realm affected real time, but decided not to dwell on it. Other times he wondered if his time there is short and he was that much of a heavy sleeper. He paid no mind to everything else, as he needed to find a hotel to stay in before night fall.
Meanwhile back at home. Blair sat down on her couch, staring into the night sky. Despite it being half way past the summer season. She couldn't help but imagine just how far things would go. She knew, she would have to prepare for the winter season when the time comes. Despite being only 5 months into her pregnacy. It was not getting any easier for her.
"Night sky... I hope you're okay... my darling." She muttered.
Despite saying earlier she would be times, Blair felt anxiety get the better of her at times. Sometimes she would have second thoughts on trivial manners. Without her darling Red Hat by her side, she sometimes felt alone. Despite the years spending time with him, she never felt compelled to make friends beyond her Duel Academy days. Sometimes she wondered if they were doing okay, and they haven't forgotten about her. Without friends, she felt very alone at times.
"We do live in the outskirts of the city...and everyone took a different path..." She muttered. "Are we really alone? Have we been forgotten?"
She keep telling to herselfthey were never forgotten, but sometimes she felt very insecure about it. She shook her head in disapproval. She lasted a year back in her Academy days alone. While she would hang with her classmates at times, she never felt compound to bond with any of them, especially once the last remanence of her old friends, Tyranno Hasslebery, graduated from Duel Academy during her second year. She was't alone, nor was Red Hat. Their friends do care about them. They just went seperate ways is all. What was causing her to act this way now?
"Must be because I'm carrying our child... To liviate the stress, I will go to back to the doctor for another appointment to see how I'm progressing. It could help me in a way." She said as returned to her bedroom, unaware that certain duel spirits were watching over her.
Back at Venice, Red Hat would wake up relatively late from his sluber. After checking in to one of the hotels, he immediately went to bed and fell asleep. Not even bothering to organize his things. As he woke and got himself ready. He decided to take walk outside and explore his surroundings. His match wouldn't be until later this week, so he had nothing to worry about... for now.
'Quite a lot of tourists here. Is this a popular place?' He thought as he noticed an overwhelming amount of tourist visiting the city.
While he normally wasn't fond of large crowds. He knew he wasn't going to stay there for so long. As he continued walking and took a look at his surroundings. He noticed most of the buildings were close to many of it's canals and found many bridges connected to the city. As he took a look at one of the bridge sides, along with many other people. He found many gondolas ridi away along the waterway.
'Guess that's one way of moving around the place. Unless it's just for some fun.' He thought as he continued walking around. He would cotinue to walk around until he reached a nearby port, where he noticed multiple cruise ships. He didn't know why, but he decided to stick around for a little while.
"Didn't expect to see you here."
Red Hat turned to where the voice came from. His eyes widen at the sight of an old friend. "J-Jaden? Is that really you?"
Jaden lightly chuckled at his srtunned expression. "Long time no see, old pal."
"It's been far too long, Jaden." Both of them shook hands. "So how have you been doing?"
"It's a long story." Jaden looks round for a bit. "Let's head somewhere else and talk about."
Red Hat nodded. "If it's something important or something private, then let's head back to the hotel."
Jaden blinked a few times, before he nodded in agreement. "Sure thing, and yes it's private affairs." The pair of former slifer reds began running back tothe hotel room Red hat was staying for a while.
As they return to Red Hat's hotel room. Red Hat sat on his bed, while Jaden just stood and laid his back against the wall. Red Hat wanted to ask him to sit down at least on the floor or at the desk, but decided not to speak up.
"So how has things been going for you, Jaden? I haven't heard anything from you since the duel with Darkness and well... leaving everyone behind without much notice beyond a letter."
Jaden lightly chuckled at those memories. Despite being only a few years ago, he still remembered those times. "Just one adventure after another. Been mostly wondering around and helping people in need, especially if it involves spirits."
"A wondering hero? Doesn't it get lonely?" He asked.
Jaden nodded. "It does, but the it's always nice getting to meet new people and help others. Even if I don't stick around for long. Besides, who said I was alone. I still have Yubel and all my heros by my side."
Red Hat laughed, forgetting Jaden always had duel spirits by side and his childhood partner within him. So, he was never technically alone. "Yes, almost forgot. That's a part of you that will never change."
"Still... there's something I wanted to tak to you about." Jaden expression then became serious. "You still have those dragon synchro monsters you keep?"
"Yes, I do. Granted I left Blair to hold onto two of them. I only have one of them with me at the moment." Red Hat replied.
"Oh I see..." Jaden then stared at Red Hat when he heard the name Blair from him. "Wait... Blair? You gave two of those dragons to her?"
"It's not what you think, Jaden. Stardust I gave her for now while I'm away from home. Black Rose I gave it to her as a parting gift until she graduated." He exlained.
"And, where is she now?" Jaden asked.
"Blair and I are married. She lives with me in my own home in Domino City." He replied.
Jaden rubbed his eye lids to process what he just heard. "Married? You and Blair?" Jaden lightly chuckled. "I didn't think you be the type to settle down so early. Let alone to fall in love."
"Times change, Jaden. Although, sometimes our relationship is a bit shakey." He said.
"What makes you say that?" asked Jaden, not understanding the implications.
"After a certain point. I found out... Blair is pregnant with my child." Red Hat admited.
Jaden blinked a few times to process what he just said. "P-P-Pregnant? You sure?"
"I'm sure Jaden." He replied.
Jaden sighed. "Not sure what to tell you. This isn't really my field of conversation."
Red Hat couldn't help but chuckle. "Classic Jaden. Enough about my personal life. What did you want to tell me?"
"Well, about those dragons. Well, one of them anyway. I met someone from the future, who came to the past to help me and Yugi Moto take down someone from the far future." Jaden explained.
"I see... After what we been through, it's not really that far-fetched." Red Hat replied.
"There's more. The one from the future named Yusei. He rides a motorcycle. According to him, in his time period, the people also duel using their motorcycles." Jaden said.
"I see... I'm not going to make a joke. I heard of weirder things in my life time, Jaden." Red Hat sighed.
"There's more too." Jaden replied.
Red Hat perked up. "There's more?"
"Yes, Yusei told me that Stardust Dragon wasn't supposed to exist in our time period, yet it does. But what he didn't realize, it's not just his dragon, but two other dragons from his friends from the future."
"Really now?" Red Hat questioned. "Yet somehow we weren't hunted down, by the so called villain you faced."
"My guess is, he didn't know you existed. Not many people actually know you even exist, despite you're infamous reputation at the pro leagues."
"Guess you can say that." Red Hat then decided to think about a little more. "I wonder... Jaden, do you think that guy came from another timeline?"
"As in a multiverse? A different timeline? I'm not so sure about, but considering our adventures. Anything is possile I guess. Our world is certainly strange." Jaden replied.
"What makes you say that?" Red Hat questioned.
"From what I was able to investigate for a short time. Synchros weren't supposed to exist this early, yet somehow they came around during our final years at the academy. I would think you helped speed thigs up which led to their creation much faster." Jaden closed his eyes and smiled. "Like that one time, your duel disk nearly exploded as it tried to summon one of those dragons."
Red Hat rubbed the back of his head sheepishly. "I was out of control then. I didn't thik about such consquences back then. So much so, I had to get a specialized duel disk to handle the dragons and synchros."
Jaden chuckled as he glanced at him. "Not just you. Everyone had to get specialized duel disks just to handle synchros, even if many had no intention of playing them."
"You may be right, Jaden." Red Hat said.
"Alright, I think enough is enough. What brings you here to Venice?" Jade asked.
"I'm here for a Pro League match. It's later this week, so I came here early." Red Hat explained.
"I see... Maybe I'll stick around to see your match. It's been a while since I seen you duel." Jaden replied.
Red Hat nodded. "I want you to watch my match. You'll be surprised with what I can do."
Jaden chuckled. "I wouldn't be surprised. You always come up with the most crazy ideas and duels."
"Then it's settled. You'll stick around to watch my match. This will be fun." Red Hat said as he got up from the bed.
Jaden smiled and nodded. "Sure thing old pal. Not like I'm in a hurry for anything." Both former Slifer Reds leave the hotel room and head out to do their own thing.
Meanwhile during the same day. Blair was waling back home from her appointment. When she got there, she hoped there wouldn't be too many surprises. As she eventually found out. While her pregnancy was progressing just fine and healthy for a first time pregnancy. She was told, she was carrying twins. She didn't know what think about this. If anything she was terrified at the whole thing.
'Twins? Me? How will I tell him? This is already big enough news...' She thought as she held her swollen belly for dear life. 'I should head home and rest. Worrying about this will just stress me out even more.'
As she was walking around the city to head back home. She then took noticed of a certain preschool. She didn't know why, but she decided to takea closer look. She oticed the kids were currently at recess and enjoying their time. Blair couldn't help but smile at the kids playing. She then imagine her own children also playing with the other children.
"Oh, didn't expect to see you here?"
Blair snapped out of her thoughts and turned to look at the person spoke up. As she took a look at the person. It was a young woman with brown short hair and purple eyes. She wore a long black shirt with a white button up shirt over it, had blue jeans and wore black heels. Blair didn't recogonize her, but somehow the woman knew her. Least she thought she did.
"Oh, you must not remember me, huh? My name is Anca. We went to the same Academy way back then. Though you were a first year back then. Your name is Blair Flannigan." The woman named Anca said with a smile.
"Um...thanks for the explaination, Anca." Blair said as she slightly bowed. "I hardly remember most of the former Academy students. Still, thanks for remembering me."
"It's no trouble, Blair." Anca took a look at Blair and noticed she was pregnant. "What brings you here to this school? You'll tire yourself out if stay out here in your current state."
"Oh, I was heading back to my home after my appointment. I just happen to stumble upon this school. Was deep into thought about some things." Blair explained.
Anca smiled at Blair. "Wondering if someday your child will be hanging around the kids here? Sometimes it's natural to feel that way."
"Un... thanks." Blair stuttered for bit for replying. "So... what brings you here?"
"You don't know? I'm a teacher at this school. I teach the kids here the wonders of dueling among other things. Sometimes Andrea comes by here." Anca explained.
"Really? So she comes by here too? Last I saw her, she was working the family business to help her younger siblings." Blair questioned.
Anca nodded. "She comes here from time to time. Sometimes she offers to help me out teaching the kids." Anca lightly chuckled. "Although, both Andrea and her siblings like talking about dinosaur type monsters."
Blair giggled. "I find that amusing, but kind of cute."
"As much as I want to chat around a little longer. Recess is almost over and it's almost time for class again. If you ever have some trouble, you're always welcome here." Anca replied.
Blair bowed to her. "Thank you, I'll consider it over the week, while my husbad is gone." As Blair was about to leave.
"So who's your husband?" Anca called out.
Blair turned around but kept on walking. "My husband is Red Hat!"
Anca eye's widened as she heard that name. "Wait, you mean The Red Hat?! The same guy from Duel Academy?!"
Blair nodded. "Yes, the very same man! We live together!"
"If you have time, we'll watch his next match here at the school!" She called out.
Blair stopped walking and turned around to face her. "Wait, you watch his pro league matches?"
Anca nodded and smiled. "I use his matches to teach the kidsthe wonders of dueling. Both serious matches and having a good time dueling depending on the person's personality!"
"That's great to hear. I'll consider coming over! I'll see you around!" Blair waved at her and walked back home.
Anca just stood there until Blair was no longer in sight. Despite feeling happy for the girl. She couldn't help but feel somewhat jealous of her. She found someone to love and marry, even if the guy in question had his flaws. Meanwhile, her last relationship ended up with a fight. She split up from her own relationship on bad terms. While she would never admit it to anyone. She sometimes would still remember the whole ordeal. She walked back inside the school and continued her lesson plans for the day.
Back at Venice. Jaden and Red Hat decided to pass the time with some fishing in the outskirts of the port... Rather it was Jaden's idea of fishing, since Red Hat didn't want to fish in such locations. Especially since the city was not known for fishing hot spots.
"Remind me again, how you convinced me to fish at Venice? This isn't like Duel Academy where we could just fish when ever, right?" questioned Red Hat.
Jaden just laughed it off and continued to hopeless fish for a meal. "When you live flat broke, you'll need all the meals you can get from fishing. I have no idea how to hunt, and the last thing I want is to use my spirit friends for hunting."
"You know, you could have just asked me for a meal and I'd pay for the meal." Red Hat reminded him.
Jaden shook his head in disapproval. "That wouldn't be right. Besides, now that I know that you're going to be a father soon. You'll need all money you can get."
"It's not the end of the world if I offer you some food. Besides, there's no harm in helping out a friend." He insisted.
"If you say so..." A thought soon crossed Jaden's mind. "Say, since you're in the Pro Leagues. You've been taking sponsors, right?"
"No... If anything, I don't take sponsors at all. I do things on my own merits." Red Hat corrected.
"On your own? That's somewhat unheard of. Aster and Chazz represent many sponors, yet you don't? Zane back when he was undefeated in the pros also had many sponsoring him." Jaden questioned.
"You may not believe it Jaden, but the way I did it may be surprising." He continued. "After graduating from Duel Academy and making a promise to Blair. I began the Pro Leagues at the bottom. I wanted to show others, at the time, that you can begin at the bottom of the Minor League and rise up quickly."
"Quite the tale..." Jaden repeated. "Starting from the bottom int he Pro is almost unheard of. Most always start at the top then either stay or fall to the bottom."
"As for the sponsors. I never took any. I'm not desperate for money if it meant taking a sponsor. Unlike Aster, which was for a good cause. In his case helping out an orphanage. Chazz took the easy route by being tied to Aster and other sponsors. Many wanted to sponsor me, but I rejected everytime." Red Hat explained. "I do matches my way, and I go to tournaments when avadible. Besides, most of my money was selling away many decks and prize cards which are very expensive. Other income is after tournament wins."
"Selling your decks and prize cards." Jaden sweat dropped. "Just how much do prize cards cost? Let alone decks you used to have?"
"You'd be surprised how some cards are overvalued. Prize cards are very expensive since they're one of a kind, especially illegal match winner cards." Red Hat corrected.
"And that's how you make money? Besides winning tournaments and matches." Jaden questioned "I'm more amazed you were able to afford a house in such a short time."
"Well, it wasn't easy and techically it's a mortgage." He corrected. "Despite the expenses from the real-estate. Was able to afford a mortgage." He then sighed at the memory of all the complications. "Don't ask how I was able to pull it off. It's complicated."
Jaden sweat dropped. "I think I get the picture." Both of them continued to do what ever activities they had planned until Red Hat's match will begin later on.
Later that week, Blair has decided to head to the pre-school where Anca was teaching later in the day. While she had to take breaks as during this time, she was having more difficulty at times, walking with the aditional weight she's gain by carrying twins, even though she only learned about it a couple days ago. Despite that, she carried on as the school wasn't very far. So long as she took it easy, she would be okay. After a while she made it to the school. She waited outside in the hopes Anca would show up.
"Hello there, so you decided to take my offer?" Blair turned around and saw Anca coming her way. "Was hoping you come today."
Blair tilt her head in confusion. "You were? I just wanted to come by and have a chat with you." Despite her claim, she knew there was another reason she came by. She just wanted to know something.
"Well you see, I was checking up some magazines during my free time. I found out, your husband's match is later today. I even went out of my way to tell my students to ask their parents if they can stay around a little bit longer to watch the match." She explained.
Blair smiled at this. She never thought she watch her husband's match with someone. Let alone a former classmate from Duel Academy. "Oh, that's great to here. Since you decided to watch my husband's duel, I'll join you. Was going to watch it at home, but since you offered. Why not?"
"Wonderful!" Anca said with a smile. "Well then, do come in. Can't let you be standing around in that state."
Blair slightly bows. "Thanks for everything that you're doing, Anca." Soon both women enter the school. This time preparing to watch Red Hat's upcoming duel.
At the same time at Venice. Red Hat and Jaden were standing around a nearby food stand. They ordered a couple of burgers as they waited for the upcoming event. Jaden wanted to deny Red Hat's generosity. Saying, he'll be okay and he didn't have to do that. Red Hat insisted and offered to pay for both burgers. As they both got their small meal. Jaden was stunned at how well it tasted. While this was fish or anything close to fried shrimp, Jaden still enjoyed such meal.
"Man, delicious burger! Thanks for the meal!" Jaden thanked as he continued to eat.
"See Jaden, nothing wrong with giving you something." Red Hat replied as he ate his own burger.
"While this isn't fried shrimp, but it's just as good. Thanks!" As they continued to eat their burgers in peace.
As they finished up their meal. Both former Slifers began to take a detour around the city before heading to the match. As They walked around in silence, Jaden noticed something was up with the Red Hat. He would soon figure things out.
"Something bothering you, buddy?" Jaden asked.
Red Hat glanced at him as he kept walking. "Sometimes I wonder if I can fully move on..."
"What makes you say that?" Jaden questioned, not understading what was he going on about.
"I've done some horrible things in my past. And there was times I was unable to atone for those sins back then." Red Hat sighed, remembering his older ways. "So much so, it may damage my relationship with Blair."
Jaden shook his head and frowned. "You shouldn't be beating yourself up over trivial matters. Especially if it's from the past." He sighed. "Tell me something. If you really haven't changed, then would you really have helped me out? Or helped anyone else just in a different way? Cause if you didn't, then you and I wouldn't be speaking right now. Many people wouldn't have changed."
"Guess you're right..." Red Hat said, although he still wasn't so sure.
Jaden momentarily closed his eyes. "Is this about the new family?"
"After everything I've done, I don't know if I could forgive myself for the previous actions I've done. Especially if it means..."
Jaden then placed his hand on Red Hat's shoulder. "Don't think like that. You may not know this. Sins of the father are not passed down to children." Jaden sighed as he could hear laughter from within him. "I've done terrible things myself, but that didn't stop me from moving on and learning to not commit the same mistakes." Jaden then smiled at him. "I know you'll find an Absolution."
Red Hat couldn't help but have a goofy smile. "Perhaps I wil. Sometimes I wonder if you're the same happy go lucky Jaden from back then."
"As they say, don't lose yourself. Take a chance and you'll find an absoluton." Jaden said.
"Well then, let's get a move on. My match will start soom." Soon both Jaden and Red Hat began sprinting to the main building where his match was going to be hosted.
As they made it to the main building. They noticed a lot of people were coming to observe the duel between Red Hat and his opponent. To avoid attracting attention, both Jaden and Red Hat went to the back doors. Red Hat would soon get prepared for match. Jaden would leave to head to where the audience was, feeling out of place to be here. Red Hat quickly rearranged his deck to make it as functional as possible with the pro league's current ban list.
As Jaden made his way to the spectator seats with everyone else. While everyone sat down to observe the duel. Jaden decided to stay standing at the top row. Keeping his distance from everyone else. He remebered back in his days at the Academy. Zane and Alexis would stand at the top row to observe duels for a short time. While he didn't care back then. Right now it felt very cathartic that he's doing the same thing, only this time on his own.
'I know you'll win. Go get him, Red Hat.' Jaden thought as he observed the field. Soon the seats will slowly fill up more and more. Although a certain group seperated from the entire audiece a one spot. 'Why does this look so familiar?'
Meanwhile back at Domno City. Inside one of the classrooms. Blair and Anca put together a TV for the entire class. After getting permission, Anca allowed her students to stay behind to watch the broadcast of Red Hat's match. Many of the students question why the woman Blair, was even here. Anca told them not bring it up for now.
"The match will begin shortly." Blair said as she sat down at the back of the class.
"Alright class, while we're watching the match. We're going to be observing each and every play both pros will be doing." Anca explained to the class.
"But isn't this match supposed to be fun?" A young boy asked.
"That's correct, but I want all of you to observe the duel between the two pros that will appear. You see, every duelist has a different personality. You can tell what their persoality is by observing how they duel or how their dueling style is." Anca explained to the class.
"Oh, now I get it." A girl spoke up. "So we observe how a duelist personality is, by their dueling."
"That's right." Anca replied.
"Look it's about to begin." A boy pointed out as he pointed at the screen.
Blair noticed Red Hat made his apparence at the arena. She noticed he had a much calmer exterior. She wondered why he was so calm, but was also relieved. 'You look so calm. I thought you would be worried. I don't want to worry so much.' What she was completely oblivious to. Two of her cards in her deck were glowing.
At the arena the audience there were getting ready for the match between oth parties. Many were curious about the Red Hat, since not only he wasn't that well known. When he did show up to a match, he make many plays that hard to pull off. Another thing that had him stood out from other pros. He never used the same deck twice. Making him unpredicatle to his opponents.
"It will be an exciting evening here at this event today. Two powerful pros will be dueling each other. First up on our right is one of the more mysterious pros, the synchro duelist, the one who isn't well known by the general public. Give it up for The Mysterious Red Hat!" One of the commentators announced.
Blair held back a chuckle at the nickname he was given. 'Depending on how you look at it. He is somewhat mysterious. Stil, I wouldn't have it any other way. I'm he feels the same way.'
The other commentator spoke up. "And now, for the next pro. The one who loves to make an intro first." Then smoke and fire appeared as a familiar face appeared on the arena with a smirk on his face.
'So I'm facing you this time.' Red Hat couldn't help but chuckle. 'We only faced each other twice. The second time was for other purposes. Guess now, we're dueling here in the actual big leagues.'
"Everyone! You all know the chant! Ready Chazz it up!" Chazz introduced himself to the rest of his audience.
"Chazz it up! Chazz it up! Chazz it up! Chazz it up! Chazz it up!" Parts of the audience repeated. Many of the same audience were part of his fan club.
Chazz starred at his opponent and just smirked. "Humph, so my opponent is you. You're the last person I wanted to see. Since I'm already here, I'll humilate you right here in front of everyone!"
"I still haven't lost a duel in the pros, and I won't be losing to you." Red Hat readies his duel disk. "If you want to duel me that badly, then try me!"
Chazz readied his duel disk. "Time to show you what a pro can do."
"Bring it on, Chazz!"
DUEL
Red Hat: 8000 LP
Chazz: 8000 LP
"I'll start this duel. I draw!" Red Hat draws.
Hand 6
"I set a monster and I set one card facedown. That ends my turn." Red Hat ends his turn.
Had 4
"Id that all you got? Then it's about time I Chazz you Up! My turn, I draw!" Chazz draws.
Hand 6
"I summon Summoner Monk in attack mode! (LV4 Atk: 800 Def: 1600)" From a cloud a smoke appeared what looked like a stone statue of a monk in a praying pose. "When Summoner Monk is summoned, he immediately goes into defense mode, but that's not important right now. Next, I'll use it's effect. By discarding a spell card, I can special summon a level 4 monster from my deck, but it can't attack this turn. Appear the tuner monster Mist Valley Soldier! (LV4 Atk: 1700 Def: 300)" As Chazz discarded his spell card. The Summoner Monk created a chant and mist appeared around the field. As the mist dissipated A muscular man with blue robes flew onto the flied. He had white wings with a blue tint at it'sedges and carried two small blades. "Don't forget the card I discarded. It was none other then Ojamagic! Now I can add the three Ojama Brohers from my deck to my hand." Chazz said as he added said cards to his hand.
Back at the school, Blair was silently observing the duel before hand. she was a it surprisedthat Chazz would have a tuner. So did that mean he had synchros of his own? Blair was now paying closer attention to the duel.
'I don't like him, but quite impressive that you decide to add synchros to your strategy. Will that be enough to stop my husband though? Cause he's not going to go down without a fight.' Blair thought with a smile. 'To give credit where it's due. You've improved a lot since those days.'
"Next, I play the spell card Card Destruction! We discard out hands and we redraw with the same number of cards!" Chazz explains as he discards his hand and redraws.
Red Hat does the same with his hand and redraws. 'You do realize, you're helping me out right?' He thought.
"Don't think for a second I'm even close to done. I now since I have a dark non-tuner monster, I tune the level 4 Mist Valley Soldier with the level 4 Summoner Monk! This synchro requires a dark non-tuner!" Mist Valley Soldier transformed into particals of green light as Summoner Monk floated up into green glowing rings as the particals surrounded it and soon the field glowed bright green. "Synchro summon! Appear the all mighty Dark End Dragon! (LV8 Atk: 2600 Def: 2100)" A black dragon with two silver horns on the side of it head. The dragon appeared to have a second face on it's torso. The dragon radiated a dark aura around itself.
'A synchro monster? You've gotten a lot stronger Chazz.' Jaden thought as observed Chazz's new monster.
"Now don't think I'm done. I play the spell card Ojamandala! By paying 1000 LP I can bring the three stooges back from my graveyard. So return to the field!" Chazz commands as the three Ojamas appeared on the field.
Chazz: 8000 - 7000 LP
'We're back everyone!' The brothers exclaimed. (LV2 Atk: 0 Def: 1000 X3)
"Now I play the spell card Monster Reborn to bring back the tuner monster Mist Valley Soldier! (LV4 Atk: 1700 Def: 300)" The soldier of Mist Valley returns to the field. "Time for a fine tuning. I tune Mist Valley Soldier with two of my Ojamas! This one synchro requires light non-tuners. I'll use Ojama Green and Ojama Black!" Mist Valley Soldier transformed into particals of green light once again as Ojama Green and Ojama Black floated up into green glowing rings as the particals surrounded them and soon the field glowed bright green. "Synchro summon! Appear Light End Dragon! (LV8 Atk: 2600 Def: 2100)" The light alternitive version of said dragon appears onto the field. The light dragon had a more serpent-like appearence to it, had four angel-like wings, and wore golden armor on it's head and trose. On it's head the golden armor that was attached is shaped as a ring band, symboling a halo.
Back at the school. Blair was fairly amazed at what Chazz was doing despite still playing his unholy Ojama trio. 'Two synchros already. You've been geting better.' Blair smiled. 'But so have we. You'll find out why my husband will not allow himself to be beaten by you.'
Chazz smirk grew. "Don't think for a second I'm finished. I play the equipd card Premature Burial! By paying 800 LP I can bring back a monster from my graveyard in attack mode! I'll bring back the tuner monster Mist Valley Soldier! (LV4 Atk: 1700 Def: 300)" The Mist Valley Soldier appears again.
Chazz: 7000 - 6200 LP
"Now time for my last tune up!"
'You saved the best for last, boss? Come on let's do it!' Ojama Yellow cried out.
"Pipe down, I'm getting to it. I tune Mist Valley Soldier and Ojama Yellow!" Mist Valley Soldier transformed into particals of green light once again as Ojama Yellow floated up this time and the field glowed bright green. The premature Burial equip card was destroyed in the process. "Synchro summon! Iron Chain Dragon! (LV6 Atk: 2500 Def: 1300)" A purple serpant-like dragon appeared on the field. It had iron armor and had heavy chains around it's upper body.
'Three synchros? Not bad, but let's see what you can do.' Red Hat thought.
"I'll activate Dark End Dragon's effect! I can send one monster you control straight to the graveyard! In exchange, it' loses 500 of it's attack and defense points! Go, send that facedown to the grave!" Dark End Dragon opened it's second mouth and launched a dark orb at the facedown and was absorbed by the darkness. (LV8 Atk: 2600 - 2100 Def: 2100 - 1600)
"The monster you sent was Sangan. Since he was sent to the grave from my field I get to add a monster with 1500 or less attack points. I choose to add Level Eater!" said Red Hat as he added said card.
"Like that small insect is going to help you! Dark End Dragon attack him directly! Dark Stream Blast!" Dark End Dragon fires a beam from it's mouth and hits Red Hat directly.
Red Hat: 8000 - 5900 LP
"Iron Chain Dragon attack him directly!" The dragon fires a dark stream of fire at Red Hat.
Red Hat: 5900 - 3400 LP
"Now Iron Chain Dragon effect. Since he delt damage to you, you have to send the top 3 cards of your deck to the grave!" Chazz explained.
Red Hat then milled the top three cards from his deck t the grave. 'Milling your opponent is not good. We don't live in caveman duel monsters anymore when milling was actually harmful to you. God I feel old...' He thought.
"Finally, Light End Dragon attack him directly! Light Stream Blast!" Light End Dragon launched a beem of light directly at Red Hat, pushing him back.
Red Hat: 3400 - 800 LP
"I set one card facedown and end my turn." Chazz ends his turn.
Hand 2
"Look who's the toughest now! Ready, Chazz it up!" Chazz chanted.
"Chazz it up! Chazz it up! Chazz it up! Chazz it up!" His fan club repeated.
'You haven't won yet. The duel isn't over until the last card is played.' Jaden thought as he observed the duel.
Blair was watching the screen as the duel progressed. 'I have faith in you my darling.' What she was completely oblivious to. Two of the cards she had in her deck emited a light glow.
"You should have defeated me, and now, you're going to pay!" Red Hat proclaimed.
"Just what are you on about? I have three powerful monsters on my field and you down to the last of your life points!" Chazz pointed out.
"I won't be pushed around. That may be an impressive field, but that just get's me even more excited to break it! Boku no Turn!" Red Hat draws.
Hand 6
"I discard a monster from my hand in order to special summon the tuner monster Quickdraw Synchron! (LV5 Atk: 700 Def: 1400)" A small one-eyeds looking machine appeared on the field. It wore a blue coat, a red cape, and held a revolver. "It's effect allows me to use it as substitute for any synchro monster that requires a specific synchron tuner monster!"
"What good will that do you? You're just begging to brick with those monsters. Who uses those anyway?" Chazz observed.
"You'd be right, until you realize why I'm even considering it. Before I begin, I activate the continuous spell Card of Safe Return! Now every time I special summon a monster from my graveyard, except during the damage step, I get to draw 1 card." Red Hat explained as the card appeared on the field.
Blair as she was watching the TV, just couldn't help but make a goofy grin.
"What's gotte you all excited?" Anca asked.
"Ms. You look excited. Is that man going to find an out to all those monsters?" A little girl asked.
Blair momentarily clossed her eyes and glanced at all the children. "He's going to make many combos. It's thanks to that card, he's going to be drawing a lot."
"What makes you say that? Is he going to draw most of his deck with that?" A young boy asked.
Blair noddded. "Trust me, with the draws hes going to make. He'll be extending his plays and maybe draw the cards he needs..."
"Then I can't wait to see what he can pull off." Anca said.
"Now I activate my continuous trap card, Limit Reverse! With this I can special summon a monster that has 1000 attack points or less and summon it in attack mode. If it's changed to defense position, then he'll get destroyed. Not that it will ever matter. I bring back my Sangan! (LV3 Atk: 1000 Def: 600)" The three-eyed fur ball appeared on the field. "Card of Safe Return effect allows me to draw 1 card." Red Hat draws his card. "Now I activate a monster effect in my graveyard, the one I discarded. The monster known as Level Eater! By targeting a level 5 or above monster, I can special summon it from my gravyard. Then, the targeted monster loses 1 level. Emerge, Level Eater! Don't forget Card of Safe Returns effect. I get to draw 1 card!" As Red Hat draws his card the small lady bug insect emerged from the graveyard and passed through Quickdraw. The star on it's back glowed, signaling a level has been absored. (LV1 Atk: 600 Def: 0) (LV5 - 4 Atk: 700 Def: 1400)
"What are you up to? You're just going to waste time." Chazz said irritated.
"You have yet to figure things out. I tune Quickdraw Synchron, Level Eater, and Sangan!" Quickdraw Synchron transformed into particals of green light as Sangan and Level Eater floated up into green glowing rings as the particals surrounded them and soon the field glowed bright green. Limit Reverse remained on the field. "Synchro Summon! Appear Road Warrior! (LV 8 Atk: 3000 Def: 1500)" A warrior with spikes on its shoulders and parts of what resemble Road Synchron was shown. "Now I use Sangan's effect to add another monster with 1500 or fewer attack points. This time I choose another Quickdraw Synchron!"
"3000 attack points? Big woop. You'll have to do more then that!" Chazz noted with an irritated look.
"Now I activate his effect! Once per turn, I can special summon a level 2 or lower warrior or machine type monster from my deck. I'll choose to special summon the tuner monster Turbo Synchron! (LV1 Atk: 100 Def: 500)" A small green machine with turbo boosters and a pair of wheels appeared onto the field. "Now I play the spell card Mind Control! With this I can take control of one of your monsters until the end phase! It can not attack and it can not be tributed! I choose Dark End Dragon!" Puppet strings soon attach itself onto the Dark End Dragon and took it to Red Hat's side.
"What!? You're going to try and wittle me down!?" Chazz questioned in shock.
"Percisely! Now I use Dark End Dragon effect to send your Light End Dragon to the graveyard! (LV8 Atk: 2100 - 1600 Def: 1600 - 1100)" Dark End Dragon launchged a dark orb from it's other mouth and blasted the Light End Dragon. "Now I use Level Eater's effect again. I lower Dark End Dragon's level to special summon Level Eater! (LV8 - 7 Atk: 1600 Def: 1100) (LV1 Atk: 600 Def: 0)" Level Eater passes through Dark End Dragon and absorbed a level. "I draw 1 card from Card of Safe Return's effect. Now I tune your Dark End Dragon with Turbo Synchron!" Turbo Synchron transformed into particals of green light as Dark End Drago floated up into green glowing rings as the particals surrounded it and soon the field glowed bright green. "Synchro Summon! Appear Red Dragon Archfiend! (LV 8 Atk: 3000 Def: 2000)" A dragon that was mostly red with some black appeared and roared. It had three horns on it's head. One on each side and the thrid one on top. It had red eyes, long demonic wings that had two spikes on them, armor like scales that were red on it's body, and sharp claws and talons. It's size on the field was much larger then the rest of the monsters.
'That dragon... That's the first synchro monster you ever summoned. This time you decided to summon him again.' Jaden then lightly chuckled at an old memmory. 'The summoning of that dragon is what also damaged your duel disk after that duel. That's when everyone had to get updated duel disks.'
"That dragon is humungous!" A kid in the audience said.
"I never seen this monster before." Another kid commented.
"So cool!"
"Such a mighty dragon!" The audience complimented, except for Chazz's fan club.
"Now I discard another monster to special summon another Quickdraw Synchron! (LV5 Atk: 700 Def: 1400)" Another Quickdraw Synchron appears. "Now, I tune Quickdraw Synchron and Level Eater!" Quickdraw Synchron transformed into particals of green light once again as Level Eater floated up into green glowing rings as the particals surrounded it and soon the field glowed bright green. "Synchro Summon! Appear Turbo Warrior! (LV6 Atk: 2500 Def: 1500)" A robotic warrior with red armor appeared on the field. Like Turbo synchron, it had turbo boosters on it's back side, and kept it's wheels on it's lower sides. It's hands had heavy armored claws.
Blair sighed in relif as Red Hat also synchro summoned three times. Enough to win him the match. 'Even without your main dragon or mine. You can still handle these kinds of situations.'
"Looks like your husband is about to win. Although, his opponent has a facedown." Anca pointed out.
"He'll never attack if there's a facedown card. He either out's backrow or will negate it during the battle phase with one of his ace monsters." Blair corrected.
"But he didn't summon it? Why is that?" Anca asked.
"This is why." Blair took out her deck box and showed her the dragon. "He gave this to me as 'protection'. So he doesn't have it in his extra deck."
"I'm just going to assume its a symbolic thing for you two." Anca sweat dropped at her explaination.
Chazz glared at Red Hat. "Go ahead attack me. I dare you!" He provoked.
Red Hat smirked. "Gladly, but first, I'll activate the spell card Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy your facedown card!" A blue typhoon appeared and destroyed Chazz's facedown card.
"No! It can't be!" Chazz gasped in shock.
"You thought I would walk into a trap? Don't flatter yourself! Battle, Turbo Warrior attack his Iron Chain Dragon!" Turbo Warrior boosted forward with his boosters and charged in. "Turbo Warrior's effect, when it attacks a level 6 or above synchro monster, it halves your monsters attack points until the end of the damage step! Also he can not be targeted by the effects of level 5 or below monsters." Turbo Synchron lauched a stream of black mist at the dragon. The dragon squirmed as it got weaker and weaker. (LV6 Atk: 2500 - 1250 Def: 1500) "Now go! Slice that dragon!" Turbo Warrior boosted forward and impailed the dragon with it'smetalic claws before slicing the dragon.
Chazz: 6200 - 4950 LP
"Next up, Road Warrior attack Chazz directly!" Road Warrior charges foward slashes Chazz directly.
Chazz: 4950 - 1950 LP
"It's over Chazz! End this duel, Red Dragon Archfiend! Absolute Powerforce!" The dragon's claws were enveloped in flames as they landed a direct hit on Chazz. As the attack landed, Chazz was engulfed in the flames and screamed as his LP was depleted.
Chazz: 1950 - 0 LP
Chazz went down on a knee. He slammed his fist at the ground in frustration. "Agh! How do you always beat me!?"
"I have someone to fight for, and now I have something to strive for." Red Hat turned around as he deactivated his duel disk. "You never change. That's why you always lose... to me anyway." He then began to walk away. "We'llduel again someday."
Chazz stod up and glared at him. "Oh we will, and I'll win next time. You can count on it!" Chazz then looked at the stands and found Jaden Yuki looking over the match. Jaden then immediately walked away the moment he was spoted by Chazz. This made Chazz seethe. "Jaden!"
"There you have it ladies and gentlemen! The mysterious Red Hat has is once again remained undedeated despite his temprary hiatus! To add to that, he defeated his opponent in three turns!" The commentator said as he was impressed with the outcome of the duel. "We'll be looking forward to the next big match. Until then, keep on dueling everyone!"
Back in the school, as the match winner was declared. Anca and Blair shut off the TV. Blair waved and smiled at the children while Anca was cleaning up the classroom. As she was done, she clapped her hands and got all the kids attention.
"Well class, what have we learned about this match today?"
"Not to take you opponent lightly?" A girl answered.
"Always check you opponents plays carefully?" A boy answered.
"Never look down on your opponent?" Another girl asked.
"While all of those good answers. I should eleborate more." Anca continued. "While it's true you shouldn't take your opponent lightly, while also playing carefully and not make reckless plays. You also should respect your opponent, and observe their behavior while dueling. You learn a lot from people froma duel. Dueling is also supposed to be fun, and used as a tool for meaningless fighting. Rememer that, childre."
"Thank you, Ms. Anca!" The students thanked.
"Alright class, you may leave. I'll see you all tomorrow morning!" She said as she waved at the kids, while they took their leave. Anca then turns to Blair. "Your husband is quite the duelist. Last time I saw him, besides occasionally, was back at Academy when he was helpig Zane out. I was a huge fan of Zane back in those days. Techincally I still am."
Blair's eyes widened as she heard that. "Wait, he helped out Zane? But on what exactly?"
Anca nodded. "He helped him out on certain matters. He even got him to head back to the pro leagues once he fully recovered from his heart problems. Although, he has to take it easy so Zane doesn't strain himself. He even heled other student on his own time. Your husband was a completely different person way back. I personally have you to thank for that. It's not often someone completely changes for someone he loves."
"I never realized he's helped out other people when I wasn't by his side. I always thought I was the one who changed him." Blair replied.
"Personally, I think you just gave the final push. The fact he want's to start a family with you now, shows the commitment he has to you."
Blair lightly blushed. "Well... we never planned to have a child this early." She admited. "You're right, he is commited to stay by my side. And I'm commited to him."
Anca giggled. "For someone so young, you're a lot more mature about this then I imagined."
"Well... thank you for the compliment." Blair slightly bows at Anca. "I really should get going."
Anca waved at Blair. "I'll see you around. Don't be a stanger and come by every now and then! You're always welcome here!"
"Thanks for the offer Anca!" Blair waves back at her as she returns to her home.
Meanwhile back at the arena. Red Hat left the building as quickly as possible to not attract attention from the audience. Last thing he need was getting the attention of reporters, which he always hated. Jaden also exited from the building in an attempt to catch up to Red Hat. The duo made sure to not get caught by others. Jaden also made sure to get away from Chazz and his fan club. They didn't leave on good terms and he doesn't want to deal with him now. Especially not his fan club that he accumilated.
As the two ran off from the building, they ran to the harbor and not even looking. Making sure no one was following them. While they made they're way to the harbor, they stopped for a bit catch their breath.
"No followed us right?" Red Hat panted.
Jaden took a look around the area. When he found no one in paticular he guess the coast was clear. "No one special anyway... If I had to guess, you avoid reporters and the media right?"
"That's right, I rather not be interviewed or be part of the spotlight." Red Hat said as he cooled down from all the running. "Being famous is overrated anyway. I rather be left alone."
Jaden chuckled a his explaination. "Typical Red Hat. you never did liked being in the spot light. Except that one time."
"That one time was for other purpses." He corrected. "Besides, if it was anyone else, I wouldn't have cared. But because it was Chazz, so I did care."
"Sure it was..." Jaden commented.
As the duo stared off into the ocean and felt a light breeze. Neither of them said for a while. Jus enjoying each other's company for the little time they both had left. Red Hat wondered how Jaden would be doing? Sure, Jaden has been through far worse, and he's very well and kicking. Still, he couldn't but at least wanting to help him in some way. Even if it was very minor things.
"Say Jaden... You think somday, you can visit us at the outskirts of Domino City?" Red Hat asked.
"You and Blair?" Jaden repeated. "I really can't answer you that. The most I can say is maybe."
"Thought you might say that." Red Hat mussed. "I know she would like to see you again. If even for a little bit. Maybe long after our child is born."
Jaden chuckled. "Maybe someday. I can't guarantee it, but it's possible."
Red Hat smiled. "That's more then enough." Then, Red Hat came up with an idea. "There should be a Photo Booth somewhere in this city. Maybe we can take a photo of each other. That way I can give it to Blair."
"Was never a big fan of photos. Hence, why I wasn't to big on getting my picture taken for the Academy year book." Jaden rubbed the back of his head sheepishly.
"I remember that fiasco. A much different time. Still, one last picture wouldn't hurt." Red Hat insisted.
Jaden sighed, but not with a trouble looked. "May as well agree. You won't leave me be about it. You're just as stubborn as she is." Jaden couldn't help but laugh. "I think she rubs off on you."
"Alright, now you're just showing off. Come on let's see if we can find a photo booth." Red Hat saidas he ran off with Jaden to find a photo booth.
Once they we're able to find a photo booth. Red Hat and Jaden took more photos then they were intending. While they took one photo which was just them doing a ormal pose. Other pictures of each other was them goofing around to making goofy poses. Despite their silly act, Red Hat only kept one of the pictures, the one with their normal pose. While Jaden kept the other pictures for his own reasons.
"Didn't think we'd be goofing aroud in there." Jaden said.
"I'm more surprised we even decided on doing that." Red Hat replied.
"Maybe..." Jaden then looked away. "It's time we part ways... Besides..." Jaden turned to look at Red Hat and smiled. "You have someone to look after right now. Can't leave her alone now can you?"
Red Hat nodded and smiled. "Yeah, I should get back to Blair as soon as possible. As soon as I get the preparations for another plane ride. I'll be on my way." He then gave Jaden a serious look. "I was serious though, I do want you to vist us someday."
"I can't guarentee it, Red Hat. I'll be traveling the world to help out many people. Besides..." Jaden gave him, his trademark pose. "You are the best friend a guy could ask for."
"So are you, to me Jaden." Red Hat replied with a similar pose.
"We'll meet again, my friend." Jaden then takes off in the other direction. Only looking back to glance at Red Hat, until he was no longer in site.
Red Hat waved at him until he was no longer in sight. He sighed as he disappeared from his sight. 'I wish you the best of luck, Jaden. Take care...' He thought as he walked away back tot he hotel. Now planning his next flight back to Domino City.
Days past since the Red Hat's duel on TV happened. Blair couldn't felt but feel anxious at times. She knew not to fidget about Red Hat's safety. After all, he's been through more then enough on his own. So why was she feeling any different now? She had to calm down, getting worked up over a minor thing isn't going to help her in the slightest.
'Please return safely, my love.' She fret, even clenching her fists at times. Pregnancy hormons often got the better of her at times when she stressed over nothing. The thought of her being alone with children terrified her. Perhaps that's why she kept worrying, even if she had very little reason to worry.
'Calm down, Blair. You're only stressing yourself out.' She thought andcontinued doing what ever house work she had left. Despite finsihing chores around the house at a much slower pace then before. Taking breaks whenit was necessary. It didnt calm her nerves very much. 'I hope you're okay...'
Nightfall soon settled in, and Blair was unable to sleep well. It didn't help that sleeping while pregnant was very uncomfortable and she had the tendency to head to the bathroom more often then not. It was nt a pleasent experience. Being a first time mother, she next to no experience on these matters, beyond what the doctors have told her. It didn't help she often had to eat constantly because of awkward cravngs.
As she left the bathroom and attempted to lay back to bed. She soon heard the door open up and closed shut. Her eyes widen at the sound. Did he came back already? Her answer would soon be answered as Red Hat entered the room.
"Hey, honey, I've return." Red Hat said softly.
Blair immediately walked up tohim and hugged him close. As she did, she then had a pout on her face and lightly slammed her fists against his chest. "Dummy dummy dummy! Where have you been?! You had me so worried!"
Red Hat chuckled and held Blair tightly, paying no mind to Blair's 'attacks'. "It's only been a week. It wasn't so bad."
Blair regained her composure and gently broke free from his hug. She sat down on their bed and looked at him. "My darling... there's something I want to tell you right away."
Red Hat raised an eye brow, but caught his attention. "Something wrong? You aren't sick or something bad happened?"
Blair shook her head. "No, nothing like that." Blair began to fidget, until she took a few deep breaths. "When I went to another doctors appointment..." They both remained silent for a litle bit, before finally broke the silence. "I found out... We're going to have twins!" She blurted out.
Red Hat eyes widen as he heard her blurt that out. Twins... them? Was this really true? They were going to be parents a secondtime at the same time. Were they really ready to handle such a task. He origianlly thought it was just going to be one, but twins? Now he had to make some life adjustments to handle raising twins with Blair.
"Twins... Blair..." Red Hat sat down next to her and pulled her closer with one arm. "Never thought we'd make twins..."
"Aren't you scared?" She asked worryingly.
"Yes I am... I'd be lying if I said I wasn't terrified." He admited. "Blair... I met someone at venice. An old friend of ours."
Blair perked up at the sound of that. "An old friend?"
Red Hat took out a photo from his jacket and handed it to Blair. "Here's who I met."
Blair took the picture and took a look at it. To her shocked, it was indeed a very familiar friend. In fact her old crush, Jaden Yuki with Red Hat by his side. "Jaden... He was with you at Venice?"
Red Hat nodded. "Indeed. I ran into him by accident. I spend nearly the entire week with him before and after the match."
"I see, so you weren't alone." Blair said as she held the picture. "How was he?"
"He's been doing well for himself, despite being a wondering duelist." He replied. "There's things Jaden been telling me ever since I told him about our family affairs."
This peaked Blair's interest further. "What did he tell you?"
"For one, I shouldn't worry so much about myself and my children. While it's true I commited a lot of sins. I wanted to otone for those sins, but I was going about it the wrong way." He continued. "The sins I've done, won't be passed down to our bloodline, and I should learn from the past and not to turn back. Moving on from those days and mistakes I've made." Red Hat thought to himself. 'There's more that Jaden told me, but I won't tell her right now.'
"I see..." Was her only reply until she thought about it more. "I'm not innocent either. I made silly mistakes too. Some more dangerous then others. There were times, I didn't think things through or was overly emotional." Blair then clutched his hand tightly. "My darling, if you want, we can make a dueling family, but if they want to do something entirely different in the future." Blair stared at his eyes, which she could barely see. "Promise me you'll be okay with their choices?"
"Blair..." Red Hat leaned in and kissed Blair. Blair closed her eyes and deepened the kiss as she held him close. Soon they would break apart in need of air. "That's a promise I intend to keep Blair. I want what's best forour family, not for me. I was being selfish on trival manners."
"Thank you, my darling." Blair would lay down on their bed, trying to get comfortable. It's become more troublesome to sleep like this."
Red Hat removes his jacket and hanged it, before joining the bed with her. "I could help you. Depends how things work out."
Blair smiled and hugged him close. "You are the best, even if you aren't perfect."
The young couple would soon drift to sleep, with Red Hat heling Blair out as much as he could. What he did knew, they found their absolution.
A/N: This took far longer then excpeted. Some details feel rushed and not fully fleshed out. Oh well, that's my fault for putting a dumb deadline on myself. Since this wasn't inteded to be a Christmas special. Oh well, can't please everyone. Light End Dragon and Dark End Dragon are cards Chazz used in the manga. However, in the manga they were effect monsters. In the real game they are synchros. So I decided, why not give him the actual synchro cards.
Anyway, hope you enjoyed and I'll see you in the next chapter.
