No one's POV

Joyce Wondaria was brought up by a wonderful, however somewhat insignificant family. Her father is a receptionist while her mom runs an accounting firm. But they saw no reason as to why Joyce couldn't be special. Joyce was a naturally bright and curious girl, and they did everything they could to raise her well.

Joyce grew up to be a very positive person. She however disliked Pokémon battles due to how uncomfortable it felt telling others to hurt each other. But as the world is, it's necessary to learn about battles and how they work. She grew to be very good at it since it was required to learn the skill.

Eventually as she grew up, she became educated in the law, she had a keen sense of justice and wanted to use it to help others who are treated unfairly by the law. However, she decided she was going to use those skills in the Oak Agency. She likes to think positively of people and believes that there is good in everyone.

However, most people believe that she's trusting to a fault. Some people just believe that once you're bad, you're bad. But Joyce is built around optimism, she believes people can change and wants to help people make those changes. She is a very fun and cheerful lady and wants to make people smile.

Present day

Joyce was in her room playing with Candy, the Ponyta was prancing around the room and occasionally headbutting Joyce. She laughed as he rubbed his head on her legs, but could not help but let her thoughts drift away.

It had been over a week since she had applied to the Oak Agency, she was worried that maybe they didn't accept her. They said that they would reply back in a few days. But nonetheless she reminded herself to stay positive.

Candy headbutted her again and she lifted him up and rubbed his head.

"Well Candy, what do you want to do today? I don't have any pending work until I hear back from the Oak Agency. So we have time to relax a bit."

Candy gave a short neigh and hopped down and looked out the window. He then came back to her and gave another neigh.

"Go outside? Maybe a bit of fresh air would help. Let's go!"

As she came downstairs, the doorbell rang twice. It hadn't rung before at all, so the fact that it rang twice was odd. Wondering who it could be, she straightened her lilac hair and opened the door.

Standing at the doorway was a tall young man. He wore a white suit with a green oakleaf on the front. Pinned on one corner was a badge that said "Scott Harvard: Leader of Oak Alpha". He had short black hair and brown eyes. On his shoulder was an Emolga that was currently eating a berry.

"I take it that you are Joyce Wondaria."

Joyce nodded, her eyes lighting up as she realized what this meant.

"I read your application, we could use someone like you. Welcome to Oak Agency."

Joyce's POV

Hours later

Well not actually, I still have to do an actual field mission to see whether I can skip training and join the agency. But still, they accepted me!

I had finished changing into my new suit, it wasn't that colored, only consisting of whie and green. But I wasn't one to complain. I went down to the Oak Alpha mission room. It wasn't only an empty room with a table and many boxes, but within a few months, it should become something great.

"Well Joyce, I say you're in luck. We have an incident at Pokepark, a giant Salazzle is on the loose. Perfect time to test your skills." came Scott's voice as he brought a tablet and showed it to me. Footage of a giant, red eyed Salazzle was shown on the screen from a drone.

"We have to stop it! How'd it get so big anyways."

"I don't know, but our biggest priority is saving the people, let's go. Just so you know, this mission will be just the two of us, but we have clearance for back up."

I followed him down a few flights of stairs as we headed into a garage. There were all sorts of vehicles. He chose a car that probably has seen better days. It had dents and scratch marks all over it. I climbed in after him and he opened the garage door, and a few seconds later, I was off on my first mission.

"So what's with all the dents and scratches marks on this car?"

"I was testing the auto-avoid system, as you can probably tell, it didn't work. But the scratches and dents were the only accidents. "

"Oh that's good. So you guys have all the fancy vehicles. I guess applying here was a very good idea."

They drove on for the next few minutes, the ride was not silent as Joyce filled it up with her talking.

"So I found Candy stuck in a fishing net and I eventually freed him, but as I went home, he followed me! I kept turning him back but he kept coming back. Eventually, he appeared at my house with a pokéball on my doorstep. And I finally caught him."

I could see that Scott was getting bored by my stories, but I wouldn't let that stop me. I decided that I was going to tell him about how I became a law student, when the car suddenly swerved as a purple glob of poison came shooting off from the distance.

We sprang out of the car and crested the giant hill and looked onto Pokepark below. It was a mess, the grass was chard and melted all around. Most people had fled, but there was a half-melted bus with people inside. And in the middle, a huge Salazzle was spitting fire and poison. This was going to be a tough first mission.

No one's POV

"Here's the plan. We save the people in the bus, then subdue the Salazzle. There's a man running around the Pokémon, most likely the trainer. Let's move."

Scott threw down two Pokéballs, and in a flash came Xander and Darv. Joyca sent out Candy.

"Ok, Xander. Remember last mission, we need to get to the bus and save everyone, so-"

He wasn't able to finish his sentence as Xander grabbed him and bounded towards the bus. Joyce laughed and made her way down the hill with Candy. When she got there, Scott was already trying to get the passengers out.

"Xander can't lift the bus, it got fused with the ground. And we can't attack the fused metal without endangering civilians."

Just then, a glob of poison came flying towards them, dripping poison as it traveled. Candy leaped forward as a light blue hexagonal barrier surrounded all of them. The Sludge Bomb splattered harmlessly and dripped to the floor.

"Candy knows Protect? Well I have a risky plan, but I see no other option. If we curound part of the bus with Protect and attack the other half, we might create an opening for the passengers."

"Well if we have no other choice, Candy, Protect!"

Scott knocked on the bus and shouted, "Everyone go to the right side of the bus, I'm going to blast open the left side!"

He waited a few seconds before commanding Xander to use Hyper Beam. The attack ripped through the bus like a train and left a gaping hole. A bunch of people started crawling out and onto the grass.

"Everyone please leave the area in an orderly fashion, the Oak Agency will take care of the rest. Joyce, let's go get that Salazzle."

They went to the Salazzle and saw a man running around it, dodging attacks and trying to speak to it.

"What is he doing! He's going to get himself killed!"

"That's probably the Pokémon's trainer, I'd be worried if that happened to my Pokémon as well."

Scott pulled out a pair of binoculars and looked at the man.

"Oh great, he's a Gamma Team member. I'm sure this thing was staged. But why would they want to destroy Pokepark with a giant Salazzle?"

Joyce took the binoculars and looked through them. "By the way he's acting, I don't think it was intentional."

"Sure. Xander, grab him."

Xander ran towards the Salazzle. As he went, he split into many versions of himself. The Salazzle was taken back and immediately started attacking the copies, but the Salazzle's attacks fazed through them. For they were illusions. The real Xander grabbed the man and bolted. He then unceremoniously dumped him on the floor and faced Salazzle.

"No! I have to go back and save her!" The man said, flailing as Scott grabbed his Gamma Team uniform.

"Save who?" asked Joyce gently.

"D-Darla, my Salazzle! She started freaking out for no reason and then this happened!"

"It's Ok, we'll figure something out. Let's start at the beginning. What's your name?"

Scott gave her an incredulous look. The man was confused as well. The authorities aren't supposed to be nice.

"My name's Marcus."

"What do you think could have led up to this?"

"The Gama Team were testing a new injection made with something called the Alpha Gene, a gene from long ago where Pokémon with this gene were huge and filled with wild power. Apparently, the gene alone couldn't do much, so they mixed it with Dynamax power."

"My guess is that there is a Dynamax power hotspot in Pokepark, what were you doing here anyways?" Scott said, still holding onto the man.

"I was getting some exercise with Darla, I was having a rough day so we came to blow off some steam."

"See, you have compassion for your Pokémon. Despite being a Gamma Team member you still helped in the end. I know that you're still a good person at heart." Joyce said.

"Ma'am, you are the weirdest Oak Agency member I have ever seen. And I like that."

"I just believe that everyone deserves a chance, no matter what they've done."

"That's nice and all but we still have a mission going on. We have to w=find a way to stop that wild Salazzle." Scott said, eyeing the two of them.

"I'll help whatever way I can, I joined the Gamma Team because I lost the Pokémon league, and it's about time I changed. And I will change, even if I have to spend a year in jail!"

"Thanks. What can you tell us about the Salazzle?"

Marcus scratched his bread and thought for a moment. "Darla always loves a good battle. She'll eventually tire out and I can return her to pokéball."

"A Pokémon Battle?" Joyce looked around at the charred remains of Pokepark. "I'll do it. Let's do this Candy."

"I'll use Darv for now. Xander, return."

"I don't have other Pokémon, but I'll be ready with her pokéball."

"Candy has Protect and Heal Pulse just in case."

Joyce and Scott ran out to the Salazzle and their Pokémon followed behind. Darla turned and faced this new threat and used Flamethrower.

"Candy, Protect!"

The flames glanced off the shield and encircled it at the back. The shield began to falter as the pressure started to build up.

"Dammit! This thing is stronger than I thought, we're screwed!"

"Come on Candy!"

The shield started losing its vibrant glow and flames seeped through the cracks.

"Darv! Attack with Bulldoze."

The small antlion Pokémon raced through the flames, its part dragon typing giving it a natural resistance and slammed into Darla full power. Despite the beast's power, Bulldoze was double super effective and caused it to cease attack. But before Darv could pull back, Darla sent out a painful Dark Pulse, throwing Darv far into the park.

"No! Out, Xader!"

Xander came out in a white flash and faced its threat. Despite how large Xader was, Darla dwarfed him by a good four feet.

"Candy, find Darv and use Heal Pulse!" Candy neighed in response and went off to rescue him.

"Xander, Slash!"

Xander rushed at Darla and created an illusion of mist. He leaped over a Flamethrower and swiped it across the face. The thick fog was too heavy to make out the fighting, but Scott could hear snarling from both Pokémon.

"Keep using slash!"

All of a sudden, Xander was thrown back by a sludge bomb, it shook as it glowed purple.

"Xander's poisoned! You have to recall him. You can use Scout!"

Scott pulled out his pokéball, but it was too late. Xander was growing into a frenzy. The heavy fog dissipated and Xander charged at Darla. It glowed purple as it unleashed its signature move. It struck Darla with Bitter Malice and hit it again. It then rushed up and hit it with Shadow Claw.

"Xander! Come back, it's too much!"

Darla gave a hiss and used Dark Pulse, the super effective move taking Xander down.

Darla then turned on the two trainers, its eyes red and crazed. It pulled back and unleashed Flamethrower.

A sound of hooves hitting the ground thundered as Candy came running in front of Joyce, hexagons forming between the attack and Joyce. She looked up from where she had been on the ground and saw her friend straining against the force of the attack.

"It's too much for him. He won't be able to hold it for long," said Scott as he stood up. "I can't send out Scout, she'll be no match for the Salazzle."

Candy strained to hold the shield up, he was weakening fast.

"Candy, please keep up. You're our only hope, please."

Darla didn't let up, even Marcus came running, trying to attract her attention. But the Alpha Gene changed the Pokémon, it showed no mercy.

Finally, as the last of Candy's strength started to falter, something happened. A white glow came within the barrier. And the barrier expanded and threw back the flames.

Candy set his front hooves down on the ground. He shook his gleaming mane.

"I never would have believed it."

"Candy, you evolved!"

The Galarian Rapidash faced down Darla, he charged directly at it, his horn glowing white. It dodged a Sludge Bomb and attacked with Psycho Cut. It ran around Darla and attacked it with Psycho Cut, narrowly avoiding some hits. Candy wheeled around and dashed back towards Joyce and Scott.

"What's he doing?" asked Scott.

On the ground was Darv, slightly awake but majorly hurt. Candy touched him with his horn and used Heal Pulse, in a burst of white light, Darv was up and running.

"Wow, he's so much stronger in his evolved form," said Joyce.

"We'll attack together, and fast. Two different threats would overwhelm the Salazzle."

Darv and Candy rushed at Darla, then split in opposite directions and dodged a dark pulse.

"Ready, Darv, use Bulldoze!"

"Candy, use Psycho Cut!"

Both attacks connected at the same time, Darla groaned in pain as it was enveloped by a red light. It soon shrunk down to a slightly larger than normal Salazzle and was picked up by Marcus.

"Thank you two so much. I know I am the bad guy here, but I can't thank you enough for saving her. I get that you'll arrest me now. I'm fine with that."

Scott looked at the man and smiled. "Actually, I say that you should pay a fine for the damages, and spend a few hours in community service restoring the Pokepark."

Marcus looked bewildered, "After all I did?"

Scott came over and clapped his back. "You redeemed yourself buddy. However I must say, that fine will be costly."

Marcus smiled. "Thank you."

Hours later

"Congratulations Joyce Wondaria, due to your excellent performance today, and your amazing Pokémon. We now give you a spot in Oak Alpha. You saved many lives today." the Captain said, giving her a new badge.

"Thank you Captain."

Joyca walked out the door and spotted Scott.

"So, I'm going to need your help setting up the Oak Alpha mission room. Because Captain might already have a new recruit join in. Spotted him at a skirmish between Oak Agency and the Gamma Team."

"Really, who?"

"I think his name was Juan Garcia."

And that concludes the first chapter to my story. Pokémon Society.
