Lost Loves

Chapter 16

Christine smiled when she woke up. Mike's arm was slung over her and he was as close as he dared. She turned around and gave him a kiss on the lips. His eyes popped open and he gave her a smile.

"Morning." Mike said with a groggy voice.

"Morning." Christine repeated. She gave Mike a long kiss.

"Careful. Christine, I don't want to go too far." Mike said.

"Maybe I want you to." Christine remarked.

"Yeah? How about this? We make it more special than a random Tuesday morning. I don't want to be rushed when the kids wake up." Mike suggested.

"That sounds good." Christine said. She leaned over and gave Mike a long kiss that lasted until Sophia landed on Mike's side of the bed.

"Hi, Princess Sophia!" Mike said. Sophia giggled at him but pointed at Christine.

"Need help going potty?" Christine asked. She wasn't expecting her to answer because normally Sophia nodded.

"Please." Sophia said. Mike and Christine exchanged a smile before Christine led the little girl into the primary bathroom. Christine helped her do her business and as she helped her was her good hand, she smiled down at her.

"Tomorrow, your cast comes off. You ready? Hannah said she thought your arm was itchy." Christine asked.

"It is." Sophia answered.

"It'll get better." Christine told her.

"Can I swim?" Sophia asked. It was the most she had said.

"We'll ask your doctor." Christine promised. She kissed the top of Sophia's head and led her to the bedroom. Mike had gotten up and put on a pair of pajama pants and a t-shirt instead of just his boxers. He picked Sophia up and smiled at Christine.

"How's my main girl?" Mike asked Sophia.

"Careful, Mike. Katie or Hannah might get a complex." Christine warned. She personally loved the relationship Mike was building with the twins.

"They know I love them." Mike argued. Just then, Samuel appeared at the door, yawning and rubbing his eyes. He was not such a morning person and it reminded both Mike and Christine of Lucas.

"Morning, Samuel. Did you sleep good?" Christine asked.

"I wish it was night time longer." Samuel said.

"Wait for winter and it will be, Son." Mike said.

"And you can take a nap later. We like naptimes, don't we?" Christine asked the twins.

"Only if Daddy is here." Sophia said. It was five words at once, the most she had spoken.

"We'll take a nap this afternoon." Mike answered.

"Never met kids this age that begged to nap." Christine remarked.

"We feel safe." Samuel answered earnestly.

"Good, I'm glad." Mike said with a smile. Christine could tell it made him happy to hear. Just then, Hannah walked in and smiled at them.

"Daddy, can we have your pancakes?" Hannah asked.

"You bet, sweetheart." Mike said. Christine smiled as he sat Sophia down and Hannah led the twins downstairs.

"You really are wonderful with them." Christine remarked.

"Thank you but they are pretty special. Its easy to treat them well." Mike answered. Christine reached up and gave Mike a long kiss on the lips.
