Second Chances

I don't own Harry Potter!

Chapter 1: Freedom

My mother, Lucy Evergreen is all about money, men and partying. She is a beautiful women and men throw themselves to her feet and bed. They provide any and everything her heart desires. So, when she became pregnant with me everything changed. She was able to hide the pregnancy at first but when she started to show men stopped paying her any attention. She lost her friends because she couldn't party or drink. She had to move back home with her father/ my grandpa. He made her get a job refusing to let her sponge off him for anything.

I was born March 17, 2003. After birthing me my mother wanted to give me up to continue her wild lifestyle but my grandpa, Curtis Evergreen wasn't having any of it. He told my mother that if she gave me up, she can kiss her inheritance goodbye. Grandpa Curtis is the one that named me. Since I was born on St Patrick's Day, he named me Clover because I am his Lucky Clover.

My mother is a strict, ill-tempered woman who demands perfection. I had to make perfect grades in school, she forced me into cheerleading, had to learn how to play the piano and the violin; I also was not allowed to eat any junk food. She even had a say on who and who not to talk to.

Then one day, I met Edward Shepherd. I actually bumped into Edward at our public library. We started talking about out favorite books and we just hit it off. When he asked me out on a date, I told him I couldn't date without consent from my mother which is very embarrassing by the way. He then walked me home and introduced himself to my mother and grandpa. I was actually surprised my mother took a liking to him. She doesn't like anybody.

We dated for two years before he proposed to me. Being young and in love I said yes. My mother was very excited about our engagement but Grandpa Curtis was not. After a while Edward changed. He wasn't the sweet bookworm I met in the library. He started to tell me that I needed to lose weight, not to speak unless spoken to and that I need to ask permission to leave his side for any reason. I went to my mother about it but she told me to just do what he says if I want a happy marriage. So, I did.

The day of our wedding is a day I would never forget. I was in the bridal suite getting ready. I couldn't stop smiling I was so happy. Twirling in my beautiful white gown I felt like a princess. I got thirsty and wanted to get some water so I left the suite. As I was walking towards the back of the church, I heard weird noises coming from outside. Someone left the backdoor open. I opened the door to make sure no one was hurt only to find Edward screwing my mother against the wall of the church. My heart literally feels like someone stabbed me with a knife and keeps twisting it inside me. My eyes welled with tears and I left before they noticed me.

How could they do this to me? I thought Edward loved me. I was so zoned out that I ran into Grandpa Curtis. I told him everything and the look on his face scared me. He then sighed and hugged me tight.

"Clover, I want you to do something for me." Grandpa Curtis said pulling away from me.

"I want you to go back into the bridal suite and change out of the dress. Just grab your wallet and passport. Leave your phone and I want you to leave. Go anywhere in the world and live your life how you want to." He said while pulling a wad of cash out of his pocket.

"I-I can't just leave grandpa! I have never lived on my own before and w-what about you?" I exclaimed; this is a crazy idea.

"Clover, I'm an old man and probably going to kick the bucket soon. I am so sorry I made your mother apart of your life knowing how she is. I probably should have let her give you up for adoption. You would have been placed with a mother that would actually love and protect you but when I held you in my arms, I just couldn't let you go. You are my Lucky Clover. This should be enough money to get you where you want to go, place to stay, clothes and food. When you get situated call me. Everything will be ok." He said smiling at me.

He handed me the money and kissed my cheek. I then ran back into the bridal suite and tore my wedding dress off. I changed into my black skinny jeans and white blouse. I grabbed my wallet and passport and ran out of the church. Grandpa was standing outside next to a taxi. He opened the door for me and I got in. Before he closed the door Edward came out of the church looking at me confused. I yanked the engagement ring off and threw it at him. Grandpa chuckled and closed the door.

As the taxi drove off I felt a weight off my shoulders and felt like I could breathe. I told the taxi driver to take me to the airport. I don't know what I'm doing and that terrifies me but it is also exciting. Freedom here I come!
