Negan placed the plate of pasta down in front of Carol while she and Anne sat at the table, the Commonwealth soldiers were given some sandwiches and were eating in the kitchen, and Negan sat on the chair at the head of the table. Carl was sitting in the highchair and he had a bowl of tiny pasta on the tray of the highchair.

"What's going on?" Negan asked as he looked at Carol.

"You do know we found Daryl's bike and his and Caroline's backpacks and crossbows in a ditch, right?" Carol asked.

"Yeah. I heard about it."

"Well, we found out they might have been taken by a Captain Hank Trask."

"Who the hell is he?"

"We're not sure. But he does have a link to Pamela Milton."

"Did she tell you anything?"

"No. In fact, she denies any knowledge of him."

"No surprise there."

"Still don't know why you kept her alive," Anna grumbled, feeding some tiny pasta to Carl.

"I wonder the same thing," Carol said then took a drink of water.

"What are you going to do now?" Negan asked.

"We're still looking through the files she has about Trask and questioning people at Oceanside."

"Why Oceanside?" Anne asked.

"That's is where Task docked his ship."

"You saying Daryl and Caroline were sent somewhere by ship?" Negan asked.

"Yes."

"Then they could be anywhere."

"I know. That's is why we're trying to figure out where they were sent and why."

"Well, one reason to take someone is to make them a part of their crew."

"Why did they take Caroline? Isn't it bad luck to take a woman as a crewmember?"

"In the old days, yeah. But that doesn't matter anymore."

"Another reason could be the slave trade," Anne said.

The thought of Daryl and Caroline being sold into slavery caused Carol's stomach to churn and she placed the fork down onto the table.

"Maybe that's what Milton did. She sold Daryl and Caroline into slavery," Negan said.

"How could that be possible? She's in prison," Carol said.

"She might have people who are still loyal to her. They could have visited her and she gave the order for them to do it."

"I'll check on that."

"What do you want to do when you find out where Daryl and Caroline are?"

"I plan to send a rescue party."

"Count me in," he said with a smile.

"Already have you on the list."

Nodding, Negan started eating while Carol looked at the pasta and she wondered what Daryl and Caroline were eating or if they were being fed at all.

France – unknown location

Daryl and Caroline were able to find a small town and an inn where they could spend the night and Daryl looked at the food on the plate in front of him.

"What is this?" he asked, pointing with the fork at the small bowl with escargot in it.

"I think they're snails," Caroline said as she looked at the small bowl with escargot in it.

"Ever try 'em?"

"Nope."

Caroline poked the escargot with the fork when she scooped some of it onto the fork, raised the fork to her mouth, opened her mouth and she placed the escargot into her mouth. Daryl watched her chewing then she swallowed and her eyebrows went up while her eyes widened.

"Not bad," she said and he tried the escargot.

"Hmph," he said then placed another forkful into his mouth.

"Wanna hear more about Murphy and Connor?"

"Sure," he said as he took a drink of beer.

Boston

Caroline moved away from Murphy when she got off the bed, walked to Noah and Noah gave her a confused look.

"Go ahead. Do it," Caroline said.

"Go ahead and do what?" Noah asked.

"Take care of me."

"Caroline, what are you doin'!?" Murphy asked, holding his right wrist against his chest as he got off the bed.

Caroline locked eyes with Noah when she stood straighter and Noah noticed the hard look in her eyes.

"Do you really want me to this?" Noah asked.

"Yeah. I'm gettin' tired of waitin' fer someone to kill me," Caroline said.

"Someone wants t'kill you!?"

Caroline stayed silent. Murphy walked to her when he pulled her into a hug using only his left arm and she gently took hold of his right hand and wrist. She saw the bruising and slight swelling spreading over his hand, but the fingers were straight.

"Can you move yer fingers?" Caroline asked in a soft voice.

"A little bit," Murphy said in a soft voice.

"We should take you to the hospital."

"It's too dangerous."

She lifted his hand to her lips when she kissed the back of his hand then she looked at Noah.

"You really do care about him, don't you?" Noah asked.

"Why does it matter? You're gonna kill me," Caroline said. She watched Noah walk closer when Murphy pulled her behind him and Caroline was surprised when Connor pointed a gun at the back of Noah's head.

"Use it or put it down, Lad," Noah said as he turned to look at Connor.

"Stay away from her," Connor said.

Caroline saw the soft look in Noah's eyes after he turned around and he reached out his hands. She walked to Noah and Noah gently took hold of her hands. He led her to the bed then they sat down. He turned to look at her. She wasn't sure why, but now there was something about Noah which made her feel like she could trust him and he looked down at the gloves she was wearing.

"Why do you wear those?" Noah asked.

"Did you tell him?" Daryl asked.

"Yeah," Caroline said then took a sip of wine.

Boston

She heard the growl coming from Noah as he let go of her right hand and he stood up. She watched him pace when he looked at Murphy and Connor then he looked at the door.

"Go on. Take him to th'hospital. He's no good t'us in this condition," Noah said.

"Ok, Da," Connor said and they headed for the door. Murphy turned to see Caroline standing next to Noah and Murphy reached out his left hand. Caroline walked to Murphy when she took hold of his left hand and Connor opened the door. They walked outside as Caroline held onto Murphy and Murphy held his right hand to his chest.

"What are we gonna say happened to Murphy's hand or why you two look all beat up?" Caroline asked.

"That's not a problem," Murphy said with a smile. "Connor and I will jus' tell 'em we got into a fight. They'll believe us."

"He's right," Connor said, opening the back passenger door. He helped her get Murphy into the car as she slid in after Murphy and Connor closed the door. She watched Connor walk around to the driver's side as he opened the door and he got in the car. She held Murphy as Connor started the engine and he put the car in gear. A few seconds later, the car headed for the road and Caroline lightly rocked Murphy.

"What happened when you got to the hospital?" Daryl asked then he placed a slice of roasted chicken in his mouth.

"Connor told the nurse they got into a fight," Caroline said with a small grin. "After they set Murphy's hand and wrist, we went back to where they were staying."

"Did you stay with them?" he asked after he swallowed.

"Yeah."

"How long?"

"A few days."

"Didn't Frank wonder where you were?"

"Yeah. He was really pissed off when I told him I was with Murphy."

"Then what happened?"

Boston

Three months later, Caroline walked out into the hallway after she exited the elevator car when she saw Murphy leaning against the wall near the door to her apartment. He turned his head to look at her when he kicked off the wall and he walked to her. She saw he was wearing all black clothes, black leather boots and his black Navy pea coat and she held out her hands.

"Hey," he said as he took hold of her hands and she looked at his right hand. "It's all better."

Nodding, she moved closer when he held her and she buried her face in his left shoulder.

"What are you doin' here?" she asked.

"I'm here t'say goodbye."

She felt like he tore her heart out.

"Oh," she said, moving back and she walked by him. She removed the key from her purse when she unlocked the door then she felt him slide his arms around her from behind. He felt her body tensing up as he placed his chin on her left shoulder and she heard him sighing in her ear. "Go away."

"No," he said.

"Please."

She let the tears roll down her cheeks when she felt him turn her around and he cupped her face in his hands. She watched him use the pads of his thumbs to wipe the tears away as she sadly smiled at him and he had tears rolling down his cheeks.

"I need you t'listen t'me," he said, swallowing the lump in his throat. "What is gonna happen today… What Connor, Da and I… What we're gonna do… It's big. Real big. I can't tell you what it is…"

"I watch the news at work. I know what's happenin' today."

"Ok," he said in a soft voice then he placed his forehead against hers. "Then you understand we might not… We…"

"You might die."

"There is that," he said with a tiny smile. "But what I'm talkin' about is us havin' t'leave th'country."

"When you mean us? You're talkin' about the three of you."

"Yeah."

"And the reason you can't take me with you is because I can't leave Boston. Or it'll be too dangerous because of those assholes who are after you."

"Uh… No…. Th'reason you can't go with us is because Da doesn't want you to."

Anger and sadness moved through her as she sniffed and he kissed her forehead.

"I'm sorry," he said and she saw the tears in his eyes.

"Yeah."

"Do you believe me when I say leavin' you behind hurts me more than anythin' I have ever felt in my life?"

"Yeah."

He held her as she started to cry and he carded the back of her head. She held him tighter as he rocked her and he made a deep sigh.

"Right. I need you t'do summat fer me," Murphy said and she looked at him. He reached into the pocket of his jeans and he handed her a handkerchief to wipe her eyes and blow her nose. "I want you live."

"What?" she asked as she gave him a confused look.

"I want you t'live."

"Wait. Is this the part of our romance movie where we have to separate fer a long time and we're doin' what is the final goodbye? Or is one of us dyin' and it's our final conversation?"

"Doesn't matter," he said with a sigh. "What does matter is I want you to keep goin'. No slippin' back into th'woman I met that night you pointed a gun at me."

"I don't know if I can do that."

"You can!" he said with a stern tone and he lightly held onto her shoulders. "And… If you do find a man who loves you as much as I do, I want you t'give them a chance. Let them love you and be happy."

"What if I don't find him? Are you suddenly gonna show up and we finally admit we belong together?"

He gave her a sad smile when he cupped her face in his hands and he kissed her. She wrapped her arms around his shoulders as he deepened the kiss then they moved back. She looked deeply into his sad, blue eyes when he moved back and he held onto her hands.

"I love you," Murphy said.

"I know," she said and he rolled his eyes.

"Why can't you say it?!"

"Uh…," she said when she thought of something then she smiled. "Maybe I am sayin' it."

"You mean "I know" is….?"

"For now, yeah," she said with a nod.

"You are such a frustratin' woman," he said with a sly grin.

"But I'm yer woman, right?" she asked and he gave her a slightly shocked look.

"Always," he said, squeezing her fingers.

"I gave him a kiss fer luck then he left," Caroline said then she wiped the tears away with the back of her left hand. "Later that day, I came home from work and there was a message on my answerin' machine."

"Who was it from?" Daryl asked.

"Murphy."

"What did he say?"

"He told me he didn't have much time to talk."

"Which means he was on a payphone."

"Yeah. I could hear the traffic in the background. Murphy said he loved me and that he'd miss me. Then Connor started teasin' him and he told Connor to fuck off. Connor got on the phone and he said he'd miss me, too. The last voice was their dad tellin' them they had to go."

Daryl felt the sadness coming from his sister as they sat in silence and Caroline sighed.

"Would you have gone with 'em if you were able to?" Daryl asked after a few seconds.

"Hell yeah," she said with a nod.

"Still don't get all that movie stuff."

"Guess you never saw a romantic movie or a rom-com."

"If I had, Merle woulda teased the hell outta me."

"Well, Murphy tended to say this mushy stuff. Connor teased about how he sounded like a guy in a romantic movie. That idea sort of stuck and we just pretended we were in a movie. We both knew it wasn't true, but it made things fun."

"Can't see Carol and I doin' somethin' like that."

"Are you kiddin' me?!" she asked with wide eyes. "What you and Carol have is straight outta a romantic movie. Two people with a troubled past find each other under unexpected circumstances. Their love blooms over time. They have their ups and downs. They break up then get back together then they finally admit their love fer each other. Sounds like a romantic movie or a rom-com to me."

"Stop," he grumbled and she saw the blush moving across his cheeks.

"Sorry."

"No, it's ok."

"All that's missin' is a happy endin'."

"Judith said you and I deserve a happy endin'."

"You do."

"You do, too," he said and they went back to eating their dinner.

"What do you think about the Macabre? How are they able to do what they do?"

"Dunno. We don't have any idea how the virus works around here."

"Yeah," she said then she noticed the look on her brother's face. "What's wrong?"

"Just thinkin' about you sayin' Murphy and Connor were gone fer a long time."

"Yeah

"How'd you find out they were back?"

Boston – McGinty's

Caroline wasn't sure why she went to the bar.

Once Murphy and Connor were gone, she found it hard to go places they used to go to together.

She wanted to move out of her apartment, but Frank told her it wouldn't be safe for her to move.

She looked at the door to the bar when she looked around, knocked, stood back and wondered if Doc was there. She was about to walk away when the door opened and Doc looked at her.

"Oh!" he said as he opened the door wider and he smiled. "It's you, Lass. Where have you been?"

"Around," was all she could say. He saw the sadness in her eyes when he stood back and she walked by him. He closed the door as they headed for the bar and she sat on the barstool Murphy normally sat on. He went to get her some tea he had made and he placed the white coffee mug down in front of her. They supped on the tea when Caroline heard a noise coming from upstairs and she looked at the ceiling.

"Fuck," Doc whispered.

"Is there someone upstairs?" she asked as she stood, but didn't stop looking at the ceiling.

He knew she would never forgive him if he didn't tell her and he walked around to the front of the bar and held out his right hand.

"Follow me," he said as she took hold of his hand and they walked to the doorway which led to the backroom. He pointed to the staircase as they went upstairs then he stopped at a door. He knocked twice, paused then knocked three times and the door opened enough for her to see the dark eyes of the young man standing behind the door.

"What's up?" the young man asked then he looked at Caroline. "Who's she?"

"She's a friend," Doc said and the young man frowned. The young man looked behind him then closed the door and Doc sighed. "Shit."

Caroline headed for the staircase when she went down three stairs, but stopped after she heard the door open. The footsteps came closer as she held onto the railing and she felt eyes on the back of her head.

"Turn around," a familiar voice said and she slowly turned around to see Connor standing at the top of the stairs. She wasn't aware she was running up the stairs until she jumped into Connor's arms and locked her legs around his waist and her arms over his shoulders. He laughed, wrapping his arms around her. She started crying as she smelt cigarette smoke and whiskey in his hair and he adjusted his hold on her. "Hello, Caroline."

He rocked her for a few seconds then lowered her to her feet, placed his right index finger to his lips and they headed for the door.

"Close yer eyes," he whispered and she closed her eyes. He led her into the room when she gasped from being pulled forward and a familiar pair of arms wrapped around her. She could smell the scent of whisky, cigarette smoke and salt in his hair and someone moved her back so he could move his thumbs over the tears rolling down her cheeks. She felt her head being moved closer as lips touched hers and her heart slammed in her chest.

"Damn," she thought. She knew those lips. She had felt phantom kisses from those lips every night for the last eight years.

"Open yer eyes." a familiar voice whispered.

She slowly opened her eyes as her vision flickered in and out then she saw Murphy's blue eyes locking with hers.

"Who is she?" the young man asked Connor.

"That's his girlfriend," Connor said.

Caroline watched Murphy looking down at her left hand and he was surprised when he didn't see an engagement ring or a wedding ring.

"I know you told me to move on, but I didn't," she said, softly.

"Why not?" Murphy asked.

"I tried datin', but they would take one look at this," she said as she held up her right hand and the young man's eyes slightly bugged out.

"What happened to her hand?" the young man asked Connor and Connor explained. "Shit."

Caroline watched Murphy hold her right hand against his chest and she felt the quick rising and falling of his breathing.

"Did you…? Did you ever find someone and get married?" she asked.

"No," Murphy said with a shake of his head and she heard the truth in his voice. He lightly kissed her lips as the young man sniffed and wiped the tears from his eyes.

"Is he cryin'?" Caroline asked and the young man smiled.

"Happy tears," the young man said then he stood a little straighter. "I'm Romeo."

"Hey, Romeo."

"Right," Doc said as he smiled and clapped his hands. "Let's go."

Doc lightly pushed Connor and Romeo toward the doorway as they left the room and Doc smiled as he closed the door.

Murphy watched while Caroline walked around the room and she moved her right hand over the top of the pool table in the middle of the room. He wondered what she was thinking when she stopped at one end of the pool table and she looked down at the pool balls in the tray. She removed the cueball from the tray as she looked at the cueball and Murphy gave her a puzzled look.

"Eight years," she said as she wrapped her fingers around the cueball.

"EIGHT…FUCKIN'…YEARS!" she said louder as she slammed the cueball on the green velvet to accent each word and she saw the fear in his eyes.

"Wait. They were going for eight years?!" Daryl asked with a small growl in his voice.

"Yeah," Caroline said with a nod. She felt the anger building in her brother. She pressed her lips together when the metal shielding slid down over the windows and the red lights started flashing. They stood as Daryl picked up the rifle which was leaning against the table and Caroline picked the knives off the table.

"Please, everyone, stay calm," the innkeeper said in French and the men and some of the women stood up. The other women hushed the crying children and infants as the rest armed themselves and Daryl and Caroline walked to the innkeeper. "What are you doing?"

"We want to help," Caroline said in French.

"Follow me." he said in French and they headed out of the dining room. They saw some of men and women heading for the front door as they opened the small slots in the walls and they slid the barrels of the rifles through the slots. Some of the men and women were heading up the staircase as they stood near the small slots in the walls and slid the barrels of the rifles through the slots.

Daryl and Caroline ran up the stairs while a loud banging sound came from the front door and the men and women fired the rifles. Daryl found a small slot as he slid the barrel of the rifle through the small slot and he could see the road from the small slot.

"Go check the rooms," Daryl said to Caroline and she nodded. She ran down the hallway as she tried to open one of the doors, but the door was lock and she headed for the next room.

"All doors are locked during shutdown," a woman with blonde hair said in French.

"Do you have an extra rifle?" Caroline asked in French.

"Henri might have one."

Caroline ran down the hallway, headed down the stairs when she ran to the innkeeper and he looked at her.

"I need a rifle," she said in French.

"Hold on," Henri said in French as he ducked down and he removed the rifle from the holder under the reception desk. He stood up when he checked to see if the rifle was loaded, handed the rifle to Caroline and she nodded. She ran back up the stairs as the sound of gunfire grew louder and she ran to Daryl. She found a small slot as she slid the barrel of the rifle through the small slot and she could see the Macabre heading down the street. She took aim when her right index finger moved over the trigger and she fired the rifle. She saw the head of a Macabre explode as she smiled then took aim.

Daryl fired the rifle as the head of a Macabre exploded then he heard the loud banging coming from behind one of the doors. He thought he had heard the sound of breaking glass as he slid the rifle out of the small slot and Caroline watched him walking to the top of the railing.

"We got Walkers in one of the rooms!" he called out, but the others just looked at him.

"Some of the Macabre have gotten in!" Caroline called out in French as she pointed to one of the doors and Henri ran up the stairs. He ran to her as the loud banging sound came from behind the door then the door slammed open.
